Hecate had brought a tray with a few items on them. Flowers, Shellfish, Strawberries, peanuts and other things. Her large cauldron was seated on it's burner, which was not lit, before her.
She was in a good enough mood. Things were going well in her personal life. She just needed to get used to certain things... that would come with time. She opened the classroom, and waited for her students to file in.
ooc: This class will stay open for at least 72 hours (probably more.) Also thanks to Antarctica! for taking the picture of the Potions Classroom for me at the WWoHP, and to Ameh for makin it into a pretty graphic!
Next, Eino took the bottles with the valerian root and salamander blood. For a second he thought he had forgotten to light a fire, but just as he picked up his want to produce the Fire-Producing Charm he realized Professor Lafay hadn't instructed them to do so. So, he put his wand down, and proceeded to add the drops. It looked like she had began with the valerian root, so he mimicked. He added one drop of valerian root, then one of salamander blood, another of valerian root, another of salamander blood, and so on, until he had twenty drops, ten of each. The solution released a semi pleasant smell, though it did not look drink-able. He let it rest for a moment as he turned his attention to the professor and his parchment for further instruction.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

It seemed like the Professor hadn't noticed his mistake. Then again it was a tiny mistake which in his mind wouldn't cause any problems right? Adding one more ingredient wasn't bad and maybe it even strengtened the potion?
Daichi took the Murtlap Essence and dropped 10 drops of it in his cauldron, counting the drops in his mind. He then stirred with the wooden stirrer for 8 times counter-clockwise and looked back up when done.
He listened and watched the next instructions and got back to work. Grabbing two sprigs Parsley , he crushed them in his right hand and let the flakes fall down in to the cauldron.

She showed the students how to do it, letting the hot liquid melt off all the honey from the spoon. "Take 5 basil leaves and slice them thin, as thin as you can, with your silver knife." And she did what she said to the letter. "Now what you want to do is take a papaya, whole and with the same silver knife, stab the fruit and stuff some of the basil in the wound. Keep stabbing until you make enough holes for all of the basil. Then add it to the mixure. Whole."

Taking the wooden spoon, Daichi added three spoonfull of raw honey while looking carefully at his spoon. It seemed about right... He then took his silver knife and sliced five basil leaves in to thin pieces.
The Slytherin had to raise an eyebrow when she said to stab a papaya. That wasn't something you heard everyday! Daichi stabbed his own papaya until he thought he had enough holes and filled the wounds with the raw honey/basil leaves in to the papaya.

Vlimia got a large spoonful of the raw honey, and made sure none dripped on the floor or on her clothes. Then she dipped the spoon into the cauldron and let the honey slowly dissolve. When she had done the same thing three times, Vlim got the basil leaves and chopped them as finely as she could, with her lovely silver knife. She watched the proffesor quite viciously stab a poor papaya and drop it in the boiling cauldron. In reminded her slightly of what the Romans used to do to traitors: Chafe their bones, and boil them in oil! She doubted the papaya was a traitor, though. A little less violently than the proffesor had done, Vlim carved a few large, blunt holes into the fruit. Then she stuffed her finely cut basil into them, and thought the result looked quite nice, like a type of weird food art. When she was done admiring the "art" she dropped it into her cauldron with a satisfying Plop!
"Alright now. Start by filling your cauldrons with water! And don't forget the 5 C's of potion making." She said and walked through the class.
Annabelle copied down the instructions for the potion. She had them in her notebook and followed them. She scourgified her cauldron first and then she used aquamenti to fill it up.

"Good... Now take the valerian root and the salamander blood and add the drops in one at a time for each, alternating like this." She said and demonstrated in her own cauldron. One Valerian, One Salamander, One Valerian, One Salamander, One Valerian, One Salamander, etc...
Annabelle took the valerian root once at a time. She added the valerian root first and then the salamander. She did one v then one s. That is how she remembered it and then she did it for 10 times.

Annabelle pulled out her wooden spoon and added 3 spoonfulls of honey into her cauldron. She was a pro at measuring because back at home she helped measured and cook with her room where that required a lot of measuring. Then she took the 5 basil leaves and sliced them thin as she could without cutting off her finger.
Annabelle saw the teacher stab the papaya and thought it was a weird thing to do but she went along with it. She stabbed it and then stuffed the leaves in it. Then she added it to the mixture. It seemed kind of cool in a way to add a whole papaya to the potion. It made a cool splosh sound! "I am liking this already." Annabelle said.

"Alright, take the ginger root and grate it directly over the cauldron. Then let simmer for about 5 minutes." She demonstrated, and then summoned reishi the mushroom showing it to the class.
"This red, heart shaped mushroom is called a reishi mushroom. It is nicknamed the mushroom of immortality because of its healing properties. Some muggles think it cures cancer, diabetes, liver problems... It depends on how it's used. Thinly slice all the mushrooms and add them to the cauldron. Take your wand and wave it over the cauldron with a fast strinking oblique motion and cast the spell." She said and once she was finished diffindoing them and adding them she performed the wand movement and cast "Sanum!"

Minerva took out the ginger root and grated it directly over the cauldron. She then sat and waited five minutes as it simmered. Next she listened Professor talked about the mushroom. Once she was done Minerva took the mushroom and thinly sliced it. Once she was done slicing the mushroom she added it to the cauldron. Taking out her wand she waved it over the cauldron with a fast strinking oblique motion "Sanum" After casting the spell she looked at her cauldron and then waited for further instruction.

Raven took the ginger root and grated it directly over the cauldron and let it simmer for five minutes.
Okay.
Then she noticed Professor Lafay summoned the reishi mushroom and explained the function of it in muggle medication. She sliced the mushrooms thinly and carefully then added it to her cauldron. She took her wand from her pocket, waved it over the cauldron with a fast strinking oblique motion.
"Sanum."
It meaned that their potion was almost finish, right?

Kennedy grabbed the ginger root and grated it over the cauldron, as instructed. When he was done with that he was about to look down to his notes, but his head shot up. What. Was. THAT?
It...didn't look right.
It certainly didn't look like a mushroom, but it did kind of look like a heart. Hmm, he wondered if he could grow those in his mom's five foot garden. Hmm. He took his wand and pointed it at the mushroom. "Diffindo," he said, cutting it in thin slices, and followed by adding them into the cauldron.
Not letting go of his wand, Kennedy practiced the wand movement before attempting to do the real thing. After he felt confident enough to do it, he did a fast striking motion, and said, "Sanum!" He wondered what that would do.
Eww, thought Silvia, that mushroom looks disgusting. Silvia hated mushrooms, and this one seemed to her like one of the ugliest ones. She reached for the ginger root and grated it over the cauldron, watching as it slowly fell into the mixture. Then, while letting the mixture simmer for a few minutes, she cast the cleaning spell on her knife and picked up the not-so-eye-pleasing mushrooms. Setting them in front of her, she sliced them as thin as she was able to, which may not have been as thin as the professor had made them, but decent for someone who had never sliced anything before this class. She checked the time.
The five minutes should be just about up. She scooped up the mushroom slices and added them to the cauldron. Picking her wand back up, she waved it above the cauldron just as the professor had done, hoping that the spell would work (she was still a first year after all) and said "Sanum." She wasn't at all sure what that spell was actually supposed to do; the professor hadn't said. Setting her wand down, Silvia waited for the next instructions. It seemed like they were almost finished with the potion.

Alyssa took out her wand and pointing at it both her grater and knife, she cleaned it using the "Scourgify" spell. Once she was certain that both were clean, Alyssa picked up the ginger root and started grating it over her cauldron using the grater. When the ginger root was completely grated, she put down her grater, and let the mixture simmer in her cauldron for 5 minutes, carefully monitoring the time using her watch.
While she waited for the 5 minutes to pass, Alyssa picked up her knife and started slicing up the Reishi mushroom, making sure that each slice was nice and thin. As the second hand ticked off the last second on her watch, she picked up the sliced pieces of the mushroom and added it to her cauldron. Now for the final touch, taking out her wand, she waved it over her cauldron in a fast strinking oblique motion, the way the Professor had demonstrated it, and said the incantation,"Sanum".
As she let the potion simmer, Alyssa checked off the remaining ingredients in her journal.

After writing the instructions down, Sophie pulled out her wand and cleaned her grater. She was already cleaning things almost automatically and wasn't impressed when nothing seemed to happen when she cast the Cleaning Spell. She grated the ginger root over her cauldron and then listened as Professor Lafay explained about the mushroom.
She grabbed the knife, which was still a little bit orange and smelling like papaya and cleaned it with the same spell she had been using through the whole lesson. Oh!!! She finally saw the spell working! Her knife was now spotless. She smiled and started slicing all of the mushrooms thinly. It took her a little while to slice all of the 17 reishi. Surely the five minutes had passed and now she could add the slices.
Sophie then held her wand once more and did the fast strinking oblique motion Professor Lafay had demonstrated. "Sanum!"

As Professor Lafay spoke again, instructing them on the next step to the potion, Stella blinked. We are already almost to the end of the ingredients list?, she thought. For some reason she thought there had still been a lot more to go, but then maybe she'd just been more focused on actually brewing the potion. Either way, she was still doing okay, so once the demonstration was complete, she picked up her ginger root and grated it over her potion, making sure to clean the grater first. It was almost becoming an obsession, making sure all her tools were clean before using them, but she didn't want to risk contamination. And, once the root was completely grated, she cleaned her grater again and set it down as she waited for the potion to simmer.
While she waited, she'd retrieved the seventeen mushrooms and returned to her workstation. Starting to Diffindo the mushrooms carefully, she made sure to keep track of the time, and, once the five minutes were up and she'd gotten all the mushrooms sliced, she scooped them up gently and added them to her cauldron. Time for the charm, which she was more sure about than anything else. At least she could handle that without too much trouble, even if it was a new spell. Replicating the quick wand movement that the professor had demonstrated over her potion, she said the incantation. "Sanum!" Apparently now she just had to wait and see what was supposed to happen next, but at least she had time to add to her notes.

Surprised yet again, Lafay wasn't correcting students, at their Potion making skills... she shrugged, maybe just maybe Lafay could be her new favorite Proffeser eh? LuLu looked up for Lafay's next set of instructions and to find out what the weird heart shaped figure was... it looked weird!
She picked up the ginger root and grated it carefully, over the cauldron! She nodded at Lafay and let it simmer!
After the five minutes were up! She looked at her weird mushroom that looked like a heart! Not normal! So as she was directed to she cut the mushroom thinly with a knife over the cauldron! She then retrieved her wand and made the fast motion with her wand, the way the Proffeser showed them ''Sanum!'' she said whiles doing the movement with her wand

Aurora picked up her grater and her ginger and quickly scourgified her grater. She watched Professor Lafay demonstrate and then mimicked her actions, grating the ginger directly into her cauldron. She scourgified her grater again before putting it to one side.
Right. Now for the Reishi mushroom. Aurora took notes as Professor Lafay spoke and then collected her seventeen mushrooms. They were quite pretty looking... She briefly wondered if it was edible and made a mental note to find out after the lesson. Then she sliced the mushrooms thinly. It was about five minutes since the ginger went in so Aurora tipped the mushrooms into her cauldron.
Okay. This was the bit she didn't like about potion making... the spells. Aurora struggled with charms and that worried her sometimes - how was she supposed to be a great potioneer if she didn't get the spells right? Taking her wand - and a deep breath - Aurora copied Professor Lafay's wand movements very closely and said, "Sanum!" That should have worked...

Louisa watched with awe as the professor demonstrate the following orders. She liked the shape of this reishi mushroom.
Taking a deep breath, Louisa focused back on her mission. She reached out for ginger roots, grabbed one and started grating it above the cauldron as instructed. The little pieces surfaced on the liquid before gradually falling in and disappeared.
Now to let it simmer for five minutes. Meanwhile, Louisa tidied up the workspace as much as possible; Moving stuff to their original places and dusting off the table unnecessarily. Then she grabbed her quill and parchment and started writing down what she'd missed while the five minutes was done.

Cast “Sanum” over the contents of the cauldron.
Having finished with crossing out what she'd done, Louisa then grabbed the silver knife and started slicing the mushroom as carefully as she'd done with those basil leaves. It was easier with a more solid substance, the girl figured. The more mushrooms she sliced, the easier it got until she reached number fifteen when her hands almost worked on their own.
Pouring the sliced reishi mushrooms then to the cauldron, Louisa grabbed her wand and made a fast strinking oblique motion over the mixture calling, "Sanum!" Her eyes hanging on the contents of her cauldron unable to define whether it worked or not.
Next, Eino made a quick trip to the ingredients station and picked up two dock leaves. When he returned to his station he placed them in the mortar and crushed them using the pestle. He had to apply an unusual amount of force and pressure to crush leaves because they were so thin it was nearly impossible. His arm began to cramp after a few minutes, but thankfully the dock leaves were completely crushed by then. He left them there while he retrieved an ashwinder egg, and when he returned he broke the egg and added it to the mortar. He speedily added the four sprigs fluxweed, then poured all of the mixture in the mortar into the cauldron. Bubble, bubble, boil, boil, bubble, bubble. It looked gross.
1. Fill the cauldron with water.
2. Add the Valerian root and Salamander blood drops alternately one at a time.
3. Crush the two dock leaves with the mortar and pestal.
4. Go to the refrigerated section and remove an Ashwinder Egg, break it and add it into the mortar.
5. Quickly add the 4 sprigs Fluxweed and place mixture on the cauldron.
6. Add the 10 drops Murtlap Essence, and stir eight times with your wooden stirrer counter-clockwise.
7. Take the two sprigs Parsley and crush them loosely in your hands above the cauldron, adding the flakes as they fall.
8. Pull your wooden spoon, and add 3 spoonfulls of raw honey.
9. Take 5 basil leaves and slice them thin, as thin as you can, with your silver knife.
10. Take a papaya, whole and with the same silver knife, stab the fruit and stuff some of the basil in the wound. Keep stabbing until you make enough holes for all of the basil. Then add it to the mixure.
11. Take the ginger root and grate it directly over the cauldron. Then let simmer for about 5 minutes.
12. Thinly slice all the reishi mushrooms and add them to the cauldron.
13. Take your wand and wave it over the cauldron with a fast strinking oblique motion and cast the spell, "Sanum".
After reading over the next step to do, the young eaglette then proceeded to take the ginger root and grated it over the cauldron. She then allowed the mixture to simmer for five minutes.
"Time's up." She chirped as she looked at her watch and confirmed the end of the five minutes. Next was to add the reishi mushrooms. Now, those didn't look anywhere like mushrooms. Much like creepy looking blood stained hearts. Picking up her wand, she muttered, "Diffindo." as she pointed its tip on one of the reishi mushrooms. It was then sliced thinly. Beezus did the same with the other 16 remaining mushrooms and when she had them all cut up, she added those into the cauldron.
Nose wrinkling a bit at the smell of the mixture when she added the mushrooms in, Beezus referred to her parchment once more. When she had in mind what to do next, she waved her wand over the cauldron, and casted, "Sanum!" with a fast striking oblique motion. Just what that spell did, she didn't know. It also didn't show any results yet.

Zhenya listened to the next directions with the next lot of ingredients from Professor Lafay and got ready. She looked down her line of ingredients to find the ginger root. When she had that she Started grating it over her cauldron. When her ginger root was all grated within her potion she cleaned up her area of clutter for the next minute.
The. Ext ingredient was mushroom. But it wasn't just any Old looking mushroom - this one was heart shaped and red. Professor Lafay instructed them to slice it thinly. So that's what Zhenya did for the next three minutes whiles waiting for the go her root to simmer enough that she could add the mushroom. She pulled her silver knife from the bench and said "scourgify" to clean it, then sliced it up nice and thin.
When the five minutes was finished she gently added the mushroom to her culdron and looked back for the next Instruction. Right, she picked up her wand and practiced the movement wordlessly. She thought it felt fine so she turned to her cauldron and waved it with a fast motion professor Lafay had demonstrated and said "sanum".

Taking the ginger root and grate, Daichi grated it until all fell in to the cauldron and set his watch on five minutes.
Looking up from his watch to the front, Daichi saw the Professor holding up a weird looking heart shaped mushroom. Reishi? It sounded Japanese to him...He listened somewhat interested how muggles thought they could cure cancer and other ill problems. But then they had to cut it.
The Professor used a spell and he saw that Kennedy and Beezus used Diffindo as well, but Daichi knew he would only make a mess, for he had had trouble using that spell before so he first used his wand to clean the knife with "Scourgify" and placed it back in it's holster. He then grabbed his silver knife again and sliced the mushroom in to pieces.
It took longer of course than with a spell but atleast he could kill the time waiting for the mixture in the cauldron to brew. Having sliced the Reishi he quickly looked up from his work place when the Professor did a spell , one he had never heard before. Hearing a beeping sound coming from his watch, Daichi knew he too could dropped the slices of Reishi mushroom in to the cauldron. Quickly grabbing his wand, the Slytherin pointed and waved it over the cauldron.
"Sanum!" he said and wondered if it had worked ...or... what it was suppose to do...

Looking up again when Professor Lafay continued with her demonstration, Kurumi checked on her papaya. She wasn't entirely sure what all she should be looking for, but nothing looked like it was about to explode or bubble over...so that was a good sign, right?
Kurumi picked up her ginger root and grater and, after casting Scourgify on it, began grating it over her cauldron. Now she needed to wait for five minutes while it simmered...might as well begin cutting up her mushrooms. All seventeen of them. That was A LOT of mushrooms. She had seen this particular one in magazines and her grandmother had often sought it for her own herbal remedies, but it had been far too expensive to afford. Yet...here they were with seventeen EACH. Kurumi looked up, raising an eyebrow in the Potions Mistress' direction as she remembered a certain incident with a certain Slytherin prefect back in her first year where he refused to brew a potion due to the use of phoenix tears. Kurumi bit on her lower lip nervously before taking her clean blade and slicing up one of the mushrooms. She wasn't as brave as he was to speak up...even with Professor Lafay's good mood.
Some Gryffindor she was.
Upon slicing all of her mushrooms, Kurumi checked her time and counted down until five minutes had passed and then added the mushrooms to her cauldron. What her grandmother would give for even one slice of them...
Picking up her wand next, Kurumi mimicked Professor Lafay's wand movement, "Sanum."

Messer watched carefully when Professor Lafay demonstrated them the next steps. His eyes automatically went to the mushroom. The mushroom look so weird. The shape remind him of a heart not a mushroom. After the Potion Mistress gave them a permission to proceed, Messer took a ginger root and grated it over the cauldron like the Professor said, making sure to clean the grater first. Now he need to wait it simmer for five minutes.
While he was waiting for the potion, he retrieved the 17 reishi mushrooms. He took his silver knife and cleaned it first before he used it to slice all the mushrooms.
