 A bit confused about the plot? Housemates talking about a mysterious something going bump in the night? Here's where you can catch up on happenings around the Castle, Diagon Alley, and Hogsmeade -- out of character, of course.
This means that unless your student character heard this stuff from other students or witnessed the actual event, your student character doesn't know about it.

Upon arriving in the Great Hall, students and staff a like found that their tables were "decorated" with tarnished and askew silverware. While everyone was wrinkling their noses at the display, one has to wonder what the house elves were up to. Had they forgotten to clean? Seeking revenge on witches and wizards for oppressing them? Only time will tell...

He gave a fixed look at that, implying that whether the students were grateful or NOT, they'd best act it in his presence. Never was a good reason to be rude to those who served.
"As those returning can see, we have a number of new faces up here at the staff table. New faces does not imply naivety, however, and I think you'll find them to be a tough yet fair group. Let's give them the respect they deserve, please. Classes will begin in a few days, and I hope you're looking forward to them." He certainly was, although that was more to the fact that classes gave the students less time to get up to trouble.
"Finally, we have a busy year planned for you, even in addition to classes and homework. I hope you'll keep your eyes on your house bulletin boards and the board in the Entrance Hall for reminders and announcements. Our top point earners from last term should expect their visit to happen in the new few days, so keep an eye out for an owl from the Ministry. And... enjoy your meal!"
He raised a hand in acknowledgment before sliding back into his seat just as the food appeared on each table in the Great Hall. Now see? That was good service. Constant vigilance Hogwartians!

Hmm, not only are the elves not letting students into the kitchens, but it also seems that they aren't up to their usual high standards of service and tastyness.... Quote:

For the living who missed my oh-so-important announcement at the end of my 583rd Death Day, here it is (including the winners of my brilliant Headless Hunt): Quote:

"In fourth place with a collection of fifteen heads is Gwendolyn Greene of Ravenclaw! For her efforts, two house points and a keepsake shrunken head trophy. Congratulations!"
He applauded.
"In third place with a collection of eighteen heads is Adanna Patching of Hufflepuff! For her efforts, five house points and a keepsake shrunken head trophy. Congratulations!"
The Gryffindor House ghost glanced at the clock and saw that he had less than two minutes before the clock struck midnight.
"In second place with a collection of nineteen heads is Kurumi Hollingberry of Gryffindor! For her efforts, ten house points and a keepsake shrunken head trophy. Congratulations!"
Applause.
"And now I must announce that we have a three-way tie for first place. All three living participants collected twenty heads. The first place winners are Jasmina Bennett of Ravenclaw, and Evelyn Flores and Marie Salazar of Slytherin! Each winner will receive fifteen house points and a keepsake shrunken head trophy.
