Isabelle unlocked the door for her first lesson of term. It was earlier than she planned, but still, it was ready for when the kids arrived from their previous lesson. She could just sit in her chair and wait for them.
As you enter you see all the usual desks in their rows, the blackboard at the front of the room right next to Professor Magnus's desk. On the floor in front of the board are two large trunks. On the desk are two boxes. You will find out the contents of them all once the lesson has begun. So please take a seat - Professor Magnus is already sat in hers awaiting you with a smile.
---------------------------------------------- OOC: I'm opening this earlier than planned, as my internet is going funny and I'm doing it while I can. Grrr. Please have your character enter and sit at one of the desks. You may talk a little bit to the people around you, but please NO EXCESSIVE CHATTER....I WILL DEDUCT POINTS FOR THAT!
Once the lesson has begun, I will announce it in the title of my post. From then on if you post your character coming in late points will be taken from them. Thank you.
"Ris-TAR-is Ris-TAR-is" Rosalie said in her head a couple times then tapped her head with her wand, "Ris-TAR-is". "Pink?" Rosalie's hair had turned from her normal shade of blonde to light hot pink color.
Having changed her hair colour back Emily started at herself in the mirror concentrating hard. She wanted red hair. Not pink, not green. Red.
She tapped herself on the head and made sure to really say the tar. "RisTARis!"
She looked at herself and smiled. Her hair had gone the exact shade of red she wanted, matching the lipstick Daichi had put on her for her face paint. Then a thought popped into her head. If she was a sad clown she should have blue hair? Grr. She'd try it again then!
Isabelle walked around the room to address the questions being asked of her - it seemed kinder after her shouting outburst, which he did feel a little bit guilty about. A little bit. But it had to be done.
"It's slightly more complicated than changing your hair, I'm afraid," she said, standing next to the Slytherin who had spoken. "I don't want any of you to try and get it wrong, thus damaging your eyes. Healer Brookes might not be happy with me. Or your parents for that matter."
Good question about criminals, actually. Smart kid.
"They fade, certainly the colour changing one does. But you need to use the counter-spell to stop them completely - Intaris. It's the same for both, so hopefully you'll all remember it." Isabelle gave the girl a nod and smile. "And as this only changes hair...and sometimes eyes....it's not really enough for a criminal to become significantly different. Unfortunately, there are other spells they could use for that if they really wanted to." Not that she was going to say today. Just in case she had potential criminals in the room. Heh.
Oooh, Ellie had a question. Pretty decent one, too.
"Generally people use it to change the whole head of hair, it is easier that way. However, with everything Transfiguration related, concentration and intent is key. So if you wished to just change part of your hair, it would require more effort, but could be done, yes."
"I believe there are some books on the subject, yes, which I'm sure would be in the library here. I'll check my book list when the lesson is over and let you know," Isabelle smiled at the young Hufflepuff. It was nice she wanted to learn about it.
But now was the time to get on with this lesson.
Unfolding her arms, Issy walked back to the front of class and changed the words on the board.
"Now you will note that the way you perform this spell is the same as the previous one. But the outcome is very different. This only changes colour, not length or style - which hopefully you have all already done." Yes, no? Scanning the room, she couldn't really tell, but most of them did have strange hairdos.
Holding her wand to the top of her head again, Issy tapped once and said the spell clearly so they could hear. "Ris-TAR-is!" Her hair changed from it's usual dark brown to a brightish blonde. Similar to the way she had changed it a couple of terms before for the Prefect's tea party. "You have to add extra emphasis on the middle portion of the word for it to work properly.
Smiling, she re-holstered her wand and leant against her desk. "I don't expect you to all turn it red like I did before. I was having fun with that - clown hair can be any colour you like. Whatever you feel fits with your make up and costume. And you CAN do it in pairs if you so wish. Getting a colour wrong is nothing that can't be fixed, unlike length and style change, which is why I wanted you to do that to yourselves."
Isabelle fiddled with her newly blonde hair, before flopping her hands into her lap. "Please begin, and if you need any help at all, just put your hand in the air and call me over."
OOC: I'll be off to bed soon, so probably won't post again tonight. Isabelle is always there though - but PLEASE listen when a Prefect asks you to do something. Any questions, or help required, will be dealt with tomorrow. Have fun choosing your colours!
Maxwell took out his wand again and tapped twice saying "Ris-TAR-is!" and His hair turned bright red.

Louisa listened very carefully to the professor. Changing hair color was good. The least silly or humiliating thing they learned so far. Louisa eyed Ryden, she was NOT going to let this girl responsible for her hair color. No way. She'd already turned her into a seaweed, there was no doubt that her hair color would be green. Heh. But Louisa wasn't that naive, she was going to do it to her head on her own.
Grabbing her wand she muttered, "Intaris." Tap and her fizzy black hair turned to greenindeed. Without a mirror, Louisa hadn't known that yet. In her head she saw a perfect purplehair.
With a smirk the girl took the mirror from underneath her, surprisingly the reflecting surface was not broken, and looked at it. "NOO! It's supposed to be purple!" She squeaked.
Again, Pixxi raised her hand for the Professor to see, "I'm sorry I changed my hair color too soon Professor Magnus. I just love to change my hair," she said with enthusiasm and a sparkle in her eyes. "I managed to make it shorter and, well, silver." She stared at her reflection and had to admit that she looked a bit foolish with the face paint and the large clown costume. "I intended it to be blue, but I think I said the incantation wrong, and I also lost some concentration at the end there."
"Please just remember, for the future, follow my instructions only." Isabelle gave the girl a smile as she inspected her spell work. "It's very nice though, I must say. Make sure you put the emphasis on the TAR section of the spell, and really concentrate on the colouring. Keep practising to perfect it."

"It takes alot more concentration to change just a small part of your hair, but it can be done," Issy nodded. "By all means have a go, just be sure to focus extra hard. And don't worry if you can't get it straight away."

"This particular spell only changes hair. And, although I've never tried, I suppose it could be used on an animal that had hair like fur. Why you would want to use it for that though...." Well, that was another matter. "Paint - no, I'm afraid not."

This reminded her of a film she had watched as a child, one about a young witch who suddenly couldn't perform magic - like flying on a broom - because she was losing herself and her confidence. Was that what was happening now? Or had something been in her pumpkin juice?
After taking a few moments, she picked up her wand again and looked at her reflection. She hated doing it...but she didn't want to appear incapable and, well, she wasn't hurting anyone in using her abilities, right?
Kurumi closed her eyes again and focused on a color - the color of her eyes. But what feeling could she envoke that would make her hair turn the same color. Her thoughts, for some reason, focused on her own house and the lion that was on its crest. Kings of the jungle, Gryffindors had a sense of regality to their name. She thought about some of the nicknames given to her recently, Cookie Princess, Pretty Prefect Princess, Ambassador of Cuteness - Merlin, how did her father get in her head?! - and she began to feel something. Her eyes shot open and she immediately tapped her head. "Ristaris!"
Nervously, Kurumi peeked into the mirror and saw that her hair was now a violet color, but no thanks to the spell.
Isabelle zeroed her eyes in on the Gryffindor prefect the other side of the room. She hoped she was alright, after all - Issy had learned a bit about the girl this lesson. And her earlier question seemed to display a little nervousness.
"How are you getting on, Kurumi?" she asked, sidling up to her just after she'd changed her hair colour. "Did the first spell go okay?"

And this one didn't seem to be doing anything at all.
Issy walked over to his desk and bent down next to his chair. "Are you alright? Anything I can help you with? I really would like you to participate." And if she could do anything to make that happen, she would.

"I'm not sure the colour changing one would work on shorter, courser fur, only that which is more soft and hair like. Plus the lengthening spell might not be comfortable for the animals, what with the fact it can tighten the scalp. So I don't advise using that one in case you accidently cause unnecessary suffering." And she was fairly certain that none of them would want that.
"Alright guys, carry on as you are. Try different styles and colours. If you want help just let me know."
" Thank you very much , Professor. " Said Justin. He began practicing the spell while concentrating on the colour and style he would like to see. " Ristaris!" " Felintas! " next thing Justin saw in his mirror was himself with jet black hair with one platinum streak down the right side of his head.And the same style he had told Minnie to give to Harvey. He loved it. And he thought he looked way better than Harvey had. " Hey, Harvey, Minnie! Check it out ! What do you think? "

Josephine blushed "Oh really? Thank you!" she looked at his hair "Red suits you! I wanted my hair to be lavender, but this was the color that turned out, I like it, anyways" she giggled.

Pixxi absolutely beamed towards the Professor, "Thanks, Professor Magnus," she said. "I think I'll keep practicing my blue hair a bit more." Pixxi had to admit that Professor Magnus was the nicest Professor she had, and Transfigurations was slowly starting to become her favorite subject.
She tapped her head twice and said the counter incantation. If she were to do this, she wanted it done properly, from the beginning. How else would she learn? Her hair was still in the transformed pixie-style, but her red, normal color had returned.
She concentrated harder then ever on the shade of blue she wanted. Professor Magnus had also told her to put emphasis on the 'TAR' part of the incantation, so she mumbled the incantation under her breath while holding her eyes firmly closed and thinking about her hair and how she wanted it to be.
After a minute or so, she decided that it wasn't possible to be more concentrated than she was now, especially with all the students around her talking amongst them and shouting spells. She put the wand to the top of her head and pictured the blue, pixie hair she wanted. "ris-TAR-is" she cried out. She hurriedly looked at her reflection and scrunched up her nose. It certainly wasn't what she had expected. The color was more of a black-with-blue-stripes.
She sighed, tapped her wand twice at the top of her head and muttered the counter incantations once more. She tried yet again to really concentrate on the exact shade of blue she wanted. Why was this so difficult? If it was one thing Pixxi didn't like, it was not to be able to do things. She was an impatient soul, and she felt some anger build up in her. 'Shake it off,' she thought to herself, took a deep breath and tried to concentrate once more.
Still with her eyes closed, the exact shade of blue she wanted printed on her mind, she raised her wand to the top of her head and tapped it once, "ris-TAR-is" she said with feeling. Something felt different this time. She smiled hopefully and felt the anger disappear from her stomach when she looked at her reflection and saw the perfect shade of blue covering every inch of her short hair.
"Professor Magnus! I did it! I actually made my hair blue," she grinned widely, waving her hand enthustiasticly towards the Professor to see.
Now she should get her neutral hairstyle and colour back again. Eyes closed, Aiden concentrates on what she looked like originally. After she was confident enough, she taps her wand twice on the head. "Intaris," she mutters before opening her eyes again.
As for something different... What else should she get? Shorter length... Maybe a pale colour would look good on her. Suits her pale skin. She imagines herself in shorter hair. Preferably slightly above her shoulder and covers partially her face. "Felintas," said Aiden as she taps her wand once on her head, shortening her hair once again.
For the colour, definitely something pale. Clownish looking? Blue? Green? Purple? Purple... The newly hairstyled Aiden focus on what she looks like with short, pale purple hair. Once again, she taps her wand on her head and cites the incantation. "Ristaris." Her dark hair slowly changes colour before it becomes paler and paler.
She approaches the mirror wondering how she looks like. The twelve year old girl nearly fainted of embarassment seeing how weird she looks.

"Well, me and my wand, we're just getting to know each other, see?" Corey said. It was mostly true. That and the fact that the wand hadn't ever technically chosen him.
"A doll would be good, Ma'am." She could make it bigger right?

Moving onto the next spell already?
Only this time it was two taps instead of one, and she'd soooooo rather try and change eye color instead of hair color. That would have been soooo much cooler. Yet, Professor's orders called for hair color! Eh. That sandwich kid, Corey, had the brilliant idea though. Then again...could they also practice on other people? She didn't mind trying to change the length of her hair, but changing the color?
Nevertheless, she eyed the clown outfit on her desk before raising her wand and tapping it twice on her head. "Ristaris." WORK. Darn spell. Woooork...she did NOT want reddish brown hair! This was nowhere NEAR blond!
Scowling, the Slytherin girl looked over to Marilyn once her name was said, and her eyebrows shot straight up on her forehead. What... "I think...you look like a clown." Huuuuh.... "Perfect for this class though. Completely."
Marilyn smirked as Evelyn picked up the clown costume. She was sure they were having the same thoughts. It was better to just deal with it than to lose any kind of points.
Seriously...Marilyn NEVER wanted to lose another house point. So embarrassing...
Looking back at the mirror. the blonde smiled. It wasn't a horrible look. The pink blended kinda nice, actually. It was different."I was going for fully pink...I guess this works, too, though..."
She attempted to change it back to blonde...but was finding it hard to focus with the amount of funny hair going on around the room...

"It's a backpack." Charner stated proudly, puffing out her chest and patting the padding. "I was gonna use some textbooks for stuffing, but I didn't think the Professor would be very happy with me. So I stuffed my backpacks with the textbooks and then my outfit with the backpack." Yes, yes she was a very proud being when one of her plans worked, line across her face or not.
Oh wait, what was this? "You're afraid of clowns?" Charner gave it a momentary thought, drumming her fingers on her covered backpack. "I suppose it makes sense. Childhood terrors or some such. Well, we can paint you like a clown that's not like a clown." There was extreme logic there. Her hand waved about her own face. "I was working on painting my face completely black and then I was gonna put stars on it. So, it's clown-ish but not really clown-ie."
Nod nod. "I could...paint your face a field or some such. And you could be clown-ish but not clown-ie." Her hands reached for the paints and then nearly knocked all of it off the table at the Professor's sudden outburst.
O.O! Goodness she had a voice!
Sheephishly, Charner glanced back at her partner. "Perhaps we should do the spells and then paint. Or one paints and one does the spells?"[/b] They needed to be efficient in order to not get eaten O.O.
"That is such a clever idea!!! I feel like there aren't enough books in the world to make this fit me though!" Faven exclaimed, looking down at her outfit.
"Yes, yes, quite afraid! That would be wonderous! If I didn't look like a "clown" and you didn't either, that would ease my nerves! Shall we move on to the spells? We truly need to catch up to the rest of class! I don't want to anger the Professor again!" she said, nervously.

Hmm hmm hmmmm. Victoria's face certainly DID have mischief written all over it, since she was a horrible liar and that WAS the only thing she was thinking of doing with this spell. But she wasn't giving up yet.
"Well could you possibly recommend a more.... permanent color-changing spell, Professor?" she persisted brightly. "Like say, one that could change the color of automobiles and paint and fabric?"

Righ. This was her last chance to get it right. She'd done quite a lot of practice now, so as long as she concentrated hard enough she'd hopefully get it right.
Slowly she tapped her head with her wand. "Felintas!" Her hair went from it's usual long wavey hair to shoot back up into her head so it was straight in a sort of pixie cut. Smiling she ran her hair through it, impressed that it had worked!
Now for the colour!
Again, she though of what she wanted and tapped her head. "Ristaris!" She looked at her new blue hair in the mirror and grinned. She was a clown now! She put on a frown as she remembered she was supposed to be a sad clown and turned to face the professor. This was such a good lesson!
Okay, come on Aurora, let's at least try one last time. Ach, she was as bad at Transfiguration as she was at Charms. Okay, "Felintas." She tapped the top of her head with her wand...
Her red curls began to tighten, receding ever so slightly, until they were little pencil curls bursting from her head. Any other time it would have made her laugh but she was still trying to hold back her tears. She'd used the face paints to draw a frown and a single black tear on her face. Sad clown. So what?
Okay... colour..? It was naturally bright red... Did she have to change it..? She thought about it for a bit... trying to think of the best colour.
"Alright guys, carry on as you are. Try different styles and colours. If you want help just let me know."
Josephine listened to the proffesor and tapped her head once again "Ris-TAR-is" her hair turned color dark lavender, she tapped it twice now "Felintas!" her hair became long and curly "Proffesor, how about this?" she asked.
"Please just remember, for the future, follow my instructions only." Isabelle gave the girl a smile as she inspected her spell work. "It's very nice though, I must say. Make sure you put the emphasis on the TAR section of the spell, and really concentrate on the colouring. Keep practising to perfect it."
"It takes alot more concentration to change just a small part of your hair, but it can be done," Issy nodded. "By all means have a go, just be sure to focus extra hard. And don't worry if you can't get it straight away."
"Concentration and intent," Issy said, simply. "It's all important in Transfiguration, and Charms too. You need a clear mind, and to focus fully on the outcome of the spell. Just saying it doesn't work. Keep trying."
Isabelle was slightly worried by the look on the child's face when she asked that question. It almost had mischief written all over it. Or was she just being over suspicious? Hmm.
"This particular spell only changes hair. And, although I've never tried, I suppose it could be used on an animal that had hair like fur. Why you would want to use it for that though...." Well, that was another matter. "Paint - no, I'm afraid not."
"As I just explained to the young Slytherin here," Isabelle smiled, gesturing to Victoria slightly, "Ristaris can only be used on human hair, or possibly animals with hair. Nothing else."
SPOILER!!: The talkers
Issy frowned again. A sigh escaped her lips as well, as she walked over to the little group talking. "Can we have less chat and more practice please? Thank you."
A dummy? Was this boy really that nervous? More importantly, did she have one... "I might have a doll in the cupboard, but it's small," she said, tilting her head to look at him. "Is there some reason you don't want to try on yourself? They aren't dangerous spells, I promise you."
Isabelle zeroed her eyes in on the Gryffindor prefect the other side of the room. She hoped she was alright, after all - Issy had learned a bit about the girl this lesson. And her earlier question seemed to display a little nervousness.
"How are you getting on, Kurumi?" she asked, sidling up to her just after she'd changed her hair colour. "Did the first spell go okay?"
And this one didn't seem to be doing anything at all.
Issy walked over to his desk and bent down next to his chair. "Are you alright? Anything I can help you with? I really would like you to participate." And if she could do anything to make that happen, she would.
What was it with them wanting to change the colour of animals? It was a good job that Issy didn't try and do it to Angel - she doubted it would be appreciated. But still, she nodded at Eino's question.
"I'm not sure the colour changing one would work on shorter, courser fur, only that which is more soft and hair like. Plus the lengthening spell might not be comfortable for the animals, what with the fact it can tighten the scalp. So I don't advise using that one in case you accidently cause unnecessary suffering." And she was fairly certain that none of them would want that.
"Alright guys, carry on as you are. Try different styles and colours. If you want help just let me know."
William called out " Ristaris" and tapped his head once with his wand.His color changed to red again, but he kept it long in a ponytail.

FELINTAS = LENGTH AND STYLE OF HAIR
RISTARIS = COLOUR OF HAIR/EYES
FELINTAS (Fel-in-tas) - CHANGES HAIR STYLE AND LENGTH. (ONE TAP TO THE TOP OF HEAD) - Strong concentration on the finished look
INTARIS (Int-ar-is) - COUNTER SPELL. (TWO TAPS TO THE TOP OF HEAD) - concentrate hard on what your hair was like before.
RISTARIS (Ris-TAR-is)- CHANGES HAIR COLOUR (tap once on top of head)
INTARIS (Int-ar-is) - COUNTER-SPELL (tap twice on top of head)
Penny looked at Launna and said "ok, how would you your hair ma'am", finishing with a giggle.... Tapping the top of her head once... and the difference was very cool....
Long curly hair..."Hey girl, you look good".. I think pink would be an excellent colour for you...
Concentrating with all her might on the colour, Penny tapped the top of Launna's head once and immediately the long curly hair turned a vivid shade of Bubblegum pink....

"Ristaris," Nora muttered with another gentle tap on her head. Since she liked her medium length, slightly curly hair, she only concentrated on changing its colour to pink. BRIGHT pink. She held up the mirror to peek at her new hair, and she couldn't help but giggle.
Right. Colour. Come on. You can do this. "Ristaris." She tapped herself on the head with her wand...
It was meant to be black... but sure, that was fine. The bright red had darkened to black at the roots and slowly lightened to it's natural red at the tips. Her spell had obviously not been strong enough... Stupid spells.

Ame kinda felt a little lonely but figured it wasn't something to fuss about. She held up the mirror and smiled slightly. One tap of the head. "Felintas!" Her hair shifted into two pigtails. She blushed hoping no on saw her. Hmm..how about red? She had always wondered how she'd look with red hair. Another tap of the head. "Ristaris!" And there is was. Red hair.

Desiree looked at her reflection in the mirror trying to decide what hair color she wanted. She pictured a dark bue and began doing the slightly different spell "Ristaris" she said with a tap. Looking in the mirror her hair was ORANGE. Eek. Her least favorite color.
Trying again she tapped her head "Ristaris!" and it had changed to a nice blue. Content with her work she sat back and looked at all the other people changing their hair and painting their faces, a slight smile forming on her face as she waited for the next instructions.

There were certainly a lot of G's but then it was a good thing she didn't know his middle name yet. Then she would learn that his parents had done that on some sort of purpose.
The fourth year watched as Selina went to work on her own hair, the curly strands seeming to almost drain of color until the formerly red hair was now blonde. "Well...no, just...different," he answered as truthfully as he could. Gideon had to admit that the color just didn't seem all too right on Selina but it wasn't terrible. Guess in the long run they both prefered each others original color and style.
Hearing Professor Magnus telling them to practice some more, Gideon tried to think of more ideas for them to try out. "What do ye think we should try next?"
Isabelle was hearing spells she shouldn't have been. And seeing hair changing colour when it shouldn't have been. Narrowing her eyes at the kids, mainly for the sheer cheek of them moving on before she had instructed them to, Issy walked to the front of the classroom and pointed her wand at her throat. She didn't get mad often, but now was one of those times.
"ENOUGH! There should be no changing of colour to your hair, and especially not your eyes! I instructed you to use the Felintas spell, which adjusts the length and style ONLY. Nothing else." Her voice resonated around the room. Why did these kids not listen? It was clearly written on the board. "If none of you wish to lose points I suggest you stick to the spell I have asked you to do, and not move on until I tell you to. The next person to move forward will receive a massive points loss. Is that clear?" Annnnnd breathe.
With her mouth hanging open Nessie watched the Professor shout at all the people that had gone ahead and started changing hair colours. She stared shocked that somone could scream so loud and she was just grateful that she had been clever not to go against the Professor.

Listening to the Professor's instructions Nessie took her wand and got ready to change her hair colour. She wanted to get purple hair, but she wasn't too sure about the shade she wanted to go for. She didn't want to go for something too dark, but she didn't want to end up having white hair either,
She took her wand and pointed it to her head. ""ristaris" she said, but when she looked in the mirror, nothing had changed. She propably didn't ephasise the 'tar' part enough. "ris-TAR-is" she said louder tapping her wand on her head. She looked in the mirror and almost shrieked when she saw herself. She looked like a granny, her hair was too white even if it did have some purple it looked way to white.
Quickly she took her wand and pointed it at her head again."Intartis" her hair had gone back to its normal self even her style had gone back to normal. She decided to worry about the colour first, and decided she would redo the style later. "Ris-TAR-is" she said as she thought of a better purple shade. It was a much better colour, it wasn't too dark and it didn'y look like white. It was exactly the way she wanted it.
Now it was rime to redo her style. "Felintas" she said trying to imagine the previous hair style she had, had before. She could feel her hair changing. She looked into the mirror smiling. Her hair style was a little different but she liked this one better. She folded her arms waiting for the professor's next instruction.
