Around the corner from Professor Bentley’s office is an area where students and staff can come and lounge around in the sun, or sit in shade, surrounded by friends and food. Come and take a seat at one of the cute little tables, the chairs are enchanted with cushioning charms and they are comfier than they look. Have a picnic, a cup of tea, discuss homework or just relax.

Nodding and a small laugh. "Actually yes, but I can get up if you want me too." Not that she really wanted to herself but the snow did look like it needed a snow angel or two. And she was thirsty hopefully he had some coca cola. "Is that a coca cola you have?" grabbing to the can.

Marilyn was giving Carter an alarmed look. He was denying it...and he seemed really upset that she'd brought it up. Well, not totally upset. Annoyed, more so. The blonde began biting her lip again. Not only had she forgotten that today was Valentine's Day...She'd also manager to ruin his surprise for HER.

The Gryffindor HAD invited her here...Not anyone else...Or had he? Yea, she wasn't going to ask that. Marilyn did NOT want to know. *frown*

She did feel incredibly guilty. Ugh, Marie had her all messed up. That whole Hate Potion thing was messing her mind up. Wow...embarrassing...

"Oh, Carter...I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to...I messed it up, didn't I?" The Slytherin was giving him a weird look.

"Well, uh…" Braeden seemed to lose his voice.
Did he WANT Caroline to get up? Well… no, not really. She was actually keeping his legs warm, to be honest, and he was kind of feeding off her warmth. Or perhaps the only reason he thought his legs were warm was because he couldn't feel them anymore. Whatever the case, he was just glad he could be of service. So, if Caroline wanted to sit on him, she could sit on him. Heck, if she wanted to use his head as a footrest, she could probably get away with that too. "I don't mind," the boy finally responded with a faint smile, returning his gaze to the blonde girl who was now so excitedly taking his can of Coca-Cola.

Brae laughed.
"Yeah, you remember it?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. He was surprised she did. "You can have it if you want, I've got two more in my backpack," he added proudly, one of those trademark lopsided grins of his coming to view. "I must warn you, though, it's probably not going to taste as refreshing now as it did the first time… it's kind of too cold for Coca-Cola lately," he added.

She was probably disappointed in his surprise... should he be honest and tell her that Valentine's day had slipped his mind and this was the best he could throw together?

She'd probably be upset if he said something like that.

I'm not quite sure correcting her was on my mind at that moment..." He was pretty sure hate potion meant hate was the only thing on his mind.

That sounded... oddly cryptic. Carter knew Marilyn was keeping something from him.

"Is there something you want to talk about...?" he asked. Because it sounded like there was. Especially in the Destiny department. Which meant... he'd have to tell her ~~he got beat up by a girl~~ tackled and nearly choked by the snake. That wasn't something friends liked to hear, right? And by that he meant... it wasn't something that he necessarily wanted people to know.

Although... he was pretty sure that if Destiny were to tackle any other guy they'd do the same thing...

Ahem... anyway. He probably should have just left it at 'forget I said anything'. That was a good deal now that he thought about it.

Merlin! What was he thinking about? Something was bothering Marilyn. And he was going to do his best to fix it. Even if it meant they once again had to address their status. Which... Carter was still not ready to do.

Marilyn was perfectly fine with simply going back into a bubble and snuggling against Carter's chest...She felt oddly worn out and hearing him tell her flat out that NOTHING was going on HAD calmed some of her suspicions...

...Not all of them, of course...

...And apparently Carter was ~~finally~~ choosing to be observant.

Running fingers through her hair, Mar sighed. If he wanted to talk about it, they could. Sure...The Slytherin just hoped it didn't end like she thought it might.

"You know, I talked to Destiny in the Courtyard...a week or so ago about this..." It hadn't been her proudest moment...but curiosity had been killing her. "She was generally confused by what I was saying...And I know Dee. She wouldn't have lied to me..." Not outright like that, anyway. "I'm just starting to feel concerned...I guess."

Gah! Why did she have to start feeling stuff for him. It always complicated EVERYTHING!

Caroline hadn't been that close to Braeden since that one times she kissed him, but she vaugly remembers that. Mostly due to the bump on the head, she had at the time. Dang that day seem so long ago to her. She caught his little blush and then she was blushing too. She hoped that the same thought she was having, he wasn't having it too. Because well they had actually never talked about after the fact. Well at least the awkwardness was now over.

Braeden watched as Caroline seemed to grow distracted, staring at one of the many couples that had taken over the terrace. He followed her line of sight only to find another boy, a Gryffindor like himself, and a girl talking. Whether they looked happy or not, he couldn't tell (though Caroline seemed to be able to, as he caught a smirk curving her lips). Huh. The boy turned his gaze back to Caroline curiously, wondering what was going on in her head at that moment. He opted best not to be nosy, though, and bit his lip instead.

Now Caroline was taking his Coca-Cola and-- SURPRISE!
It blew up on her face.
And spilled all over her.
And him.
And all over the place.

Gaahhh!
As Caroline rolled off the boy and complained that the soda had 'pee'd' on her, Braeden burst into laughter. "It pee'd on you?!" he repeated, completely amused by her choice of words as he continued to laugh for a few more moments before stopping to catch his breath, though a large smile remained on his face. "I'm sorry about that, the can must've rolled around too much in my backpack or something…" he muttered, now a little wary of opening the other cans he had. Yeeeah, maybe he could just… not drink those today….

"What do you say we head back into the castle and get some warm butterbeer instead?" Braeden asked as he pulled out his wand and used it to quickly dry both of his and Caroline's robes. The warmth of the spell's effect was soothing, after being covered in freezing cold Coca-Cola and snow. Brrr.

This was starting to end up worse than what happened between Marie and him. At least Marie had a reason to be mad at him.

He sighed and looked down at the ground. "Marilyn. I would have thought that you would know me better than that..." He'd never, ever do that to a girl... even if they weren't officially together. He, ~~unlike some people at this table,~~ was loyal.

"Maybe I should get going..." he said standing up. The way she was talking made it known to him that she wasn't planning on spending the day with him.

Did Marilyn consider him the type of guy that snuck around with other girls? Not just any other girls either... but friends of the first girl?

And she obviously still felt that way if they were having this conversation.

This was starting to end up worse than what happened between Marie and him. At least Marie had a reason to be mad at him.

He sighed and looked down at the ground. "Marilyn. I would have thought that you would know me better than that..." He'd never, ever do that to a girl... even if they weren't officially together. He, ~~unlike some people at this table,~~ was loyal.

"Maybe I should get going..." he said standing up. The way she was talking made it known to him that she wasn't planning on spending the day with him.

Huh? So, that was it? He was just going to get up and walk away?

"No...Carter." She stood, as well...reaching for his hand. "Please...I'd like the chance to explain why I feel like this."

He seemed kinda disgusted? with what she had said...and it only seemed to make her feel that much worse. Perhaps Rafe had been right about her. She DID ruin everything. It had been the truth, though. She didn't know how he felt. He never said ANYTHING about his feelings. Should she have lied to Dee and said something like...I know for a FACT he doesn't like you...

No, Marilyn had assumed enough things about Carter.

Carter sat back down. He wasn't sure why... maybe it was because she did deserve a chance to speak... ~~or because Carter may have liked the feeling of her hand on his...~~

Whatever the reason he didn't leave. He instead nodded to indicate that she begin talking.

He wasn't sure if he really wanted to hear what she had to say...

No, the fact that she thought there was something between he and Destiny was quite enough to hear.

Marilyn sighed with relief when he decided to sit back down. At least Carter was willing to hear her out...She continued to hold his hand, squeezing a bit tighter than she had been. The blonde had no intentions of letting it go, either. Hopefully it would help her get this out...

...And the Slytherin would NOT be making eye contact. Marilyn hadn't been so good at masking her emotions lately...and she did not need any waterworks. Tears would not help the situation...

"You know, I thought it would be easier coming back to this place...but I hadn't realized just how many enemies I had made..." She stared down at their clasped hands, finding it somewhat comforting. "Back in first year, a lot of who I was was attitude and arrogance. I wasn't easily lead by what anyone said...but now?" Well, her confidence had been severely shaken. People who were suppose to love and care about her had...kidnapped her, thrown her into dark places by herself, abandoned her, attempted to take her life...and had LIED...

It was a wonder she didn't spend the rest of her Hogwarts days hermitted down the Slytherin dorms, really...

"There's just a lot of self doubt going on within myself, Carter...I keep getting told that because of the way I treat people, I don't deserve to be happy...and I think that's what I'm starting to believe."

As Caroline rolled off the boy and complained that the soda had 'pee'd' on her, Braeden burst into laughter. "It pee'd on you?!" he repeated, completely amused by her choice of words as he continued to laugh for a few more moments before stopping to catch his breath, though a large smile remained on his face. "I'm sorry about that, the can must've rolled around too much in my backpack or something…" he muttered, now a little wary of opening the other cans he had. Yeeeah, maybe he could just… not drink those today….

"What do you say we head back into the castle and get some warm butterbeer instead?" Braeden asked as he pulled out his wand and used it to quickly dry both of his and Caroline's robes. The warmth of the spell's effect was soothing, after being covered in freezing cold Coca-Cola and snow. Brrr.

Caroline laughed she had to admit that was pretty funny. The soda looked like a fountain. She had no idea that it would do that to her. Then she laughed even harder when Braeden laughed at her , from his point of view it was probaly even more hilarious then it had been for her. "It's on you too" she giggled but most of it was on her.

She sighed. "Or maybe it got shook up when I tackled you." she nodded with a grin. It was quite possible that could have caused it right? Now Brae was talking, she was enjoying being outside today, the snow looked fun and welcoming well it was since they had been laying around on it for the last 15 minutes or so. Until now being all wet and sticky now she was ready to go inside and warm up. "That sounds like a great idea."

Watching as Brae took out his wand. What was he going to do? h that was nice, when did he get such a handy wandwork going on. "Thanks" She said with a smile. She stood up and strenched out. Grinning down at Braeden she put her hand out to help him up. "Slytherin table or Gryffindor table?" She asked.

When she asked which table they should occupy at the Great Hall, the boy's bushy eyebrows furrowed slightly, thoughtfully. "Let's go to the Slytherin table, maybe we'll bump into Emma. I haven't seen her all day…" muttered the boy, his expression turning even more thoughtful and dazed now.

He wondered if Emma would punch his lights out if she saw him? Maybe he could get Caroline to throw in a good word for him, the two girls were cousins after all. Surely Emma would listen to Caroline more than she'd listen to him.

Anyway.
The Gryffindork shook his head slightly, dismissing the sudden wave of thoughts, and gave Caroline a lopsided smile before beginning to lead the way back into the castle.

Then was more like it, all dry, and now they were going to head in for some warm butterbeer. She smiled brightly up at him now that there bums were out of the snow and all dry. She was half tempted to throw a snowball at him. but she didn't they were dry now and she didn't want to get wet again.

She frowned slightly when he bought up Emma. She basically threw herself on him. And now with this craziness of feelings that she had right now. She sighed. It was kind of like they had picked up again right after there movie night in the RoR and after the match when she met Carter.

But with Emma it was different they were actually friends, unlike she was with Marilyn and Marie. She didn't want to be the thing in their relationship. Then again it was valentines day and they hadn't made any plans.

Braeden was taking off without her. He was half way out of the terrance when she finally caught up with him. She jumped on his back. Hehe. "Now this is it. I've missed my piggyback rides." Oh, yes she has.

Braeden had been walking at a slow pace, with his hands buried deep in the pockets of his jacket and his backpack hanging over one shoulder (though I totally forgot to mention he'd picked it up earlier, but let's pretend he had). He had no idea he had left Caroline so far behind, all this time he'd assumed the girl was just a step or two away. He'd been too distracted thinking of his current troubles with Emma to notice.

Hmm.

And THEN!
All of a sudden, without notice, the boy was attacked - yet again!
The Gryffindork stumbled, his hands coming out of his pockets as his arms began to flail, trying to keep his balance. It wasn't until Caroline spoke that he realized that there wasn't a gnome trying to knock him over and kill him, but rather there was a girl stealing a piggyback ride from him.

More relaxed now that he had regained his balance, Brae laughed lightly at Caroline's words, placing his hands behind the girl's knees to keep her safe and still on his back.
Wow. When had been the last time he'd given Caroline a piggyback ride? Actually, when had been the last time he'd given ANYONE a piggyback ride? It felt like forever! However, Caroline was just as tiny and light as Braeden remembered her.

"Hold on tight, m'lady!" the boy announced with a lopsided grin before setting off in the direction of the castle, running past little first years that jumped out of the way startled. "'Scuse me! Her highness, Lady Caroline, coming through!"

Yep. Brae was still the same as that 15-year-old dork Caroline had first met only a couple years ago.

Carter looked down at the ground too. He waited for her to say something. Would it be wrong to nod at that comment? A lot of her was that. Carter had just been... too ignorant to realize it. Or maybe he just didn't care.

"Listen Marilyn." he said finally looking at her. "You are a beautiful person. And you deserve happiness. No matter what..." ~~Rafe or Marie~~ "anyone says."

He just wasn't sure that happiness was... with him.

He sighed. "The truth is... I think we both jumped into this too quickly..." They were both looking for a sense of normal... and that wasn't a good reason to start any relationship.

He looked at the ground again. "Don't get me wrong... I like you..." In fact, he liked her a lot. "And I'm probably going to regret this in the morning... but... if there's going to be something between us... we need to make sure we do it right."

And he honestly hoped that things would start making sense. He could imagine a future with her. But that was the problem... he could see falling in love with her... wanting a future with her.

But all that was there now was a lot of confusion and indecision on his part. And he wasn't about to bring Marilyn through any more of that. No. He had stuff to figure out just like she did.

If they were meant to be together... it would just happen, right?

"I'm... I'm sorry Marilyn. I should... probably get going..." he said slowly releasing his hand from hers. He couldn't bear to see her reaction. But it wasn't fair to keep her in this romantic limbo.

~~And Carter... being the great guy that he was... probably just added to her feelings of self doubt...~~
