One of the first things you will notice when you enter Professor Bentley’s office is the aroma, the air is filled with the sweet scent of peppermint tea and flowers. Oh no, you won’t find trowels, dragon dung or dirt in this room, everything is presented in a neat and orderly fashion. The office is decorated in earthy brown tones with hints of pink, green and yellow making the room feel very homey. In summer a light breeze will be drifting through an open window, whereas in the cooler months a fire will be roaring in the open grate fireplace. Behind Professor Bentley’s desk on wall by the window is a large cork board. On this board you will see a collection of photographs of family and friends as well as the occasional note about classes or homework. So feel free to come in and take a seat on one of the plush and comfy stools- mind of course you have permission to enter. Don't mind the small bundle of fluff that flits in and out of the room, or lounges at your feet, Caltex doesn't bite. Just be sure your laces are tied, otherwise you might find you wont have any left by the time you leave.
And be careful as you enter... the potted Fanged Geraniums by the door like to play occasionally.
OOC: Please do not post in here until your character has been invited in. To be invited in first please post your character arriving at, and knocking on the door to Professor Bentley's office. Do this in the Outside Professor Bentley's Office (KNOCK HERE) thread.
Lacing her fingers together, Seren placed her hands in her lap, observing August. He seemed a little preoccupied, and whatever it was that was on his mind... it certainly seemed to be eating away at him a little. Though it was nice to see he had taken her up on the offer and removed his shoes. She wasn't a fan of them either... made her feel ...constricted.
As the question left the boys lips, Seren suddenly got a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach. Did she know he was a muggleborn? "No, I hadn't the faintest idea," she started, offering him a small smile. "I usually try to get to know the person... and not worry about minor details like that." Silly stuff anyway. What did it matter if a witch or wizard was muggleborn? They were still capable of magic, and were in no way disadvantaged.
Seren continued to listen as August mentioned feeling out of the loop and then meeting sombody that made him uncomfortable. She didn't like the sound of this... not at all. "Ok..." she started once the boy had finished. "Now... first of all, I want you to understand something, and listen carefully. Do not let anybody tell you that you are not good enough, that you don't belong... because you do. Just because someone is muggleborn it doesn't make them any less of a wizard, in fact some of the most powerful and successful witches and wizards in history have been halfblood or less. Blood... and heritage is not what makes a wizard, it's persistence."
Bouncing blueberries! How was it that people were still harping on about muggleborns? Have they not evolved at all? "This person that's making you feel uncomfortable. What are they doing exactly?"
For some reason he felt really awkward starting off the conversation with the phrase stating he was a Muggleborn. He hadn't been in this magical world very often but he still knew that it was apparent that it DID matter to some people. It made him feel bad. But it made him smile smally at the Herbology Professor when she spoke about wanting to get to know the person rather than that nonsense. "Thanks."
He didn't know that many great witches and wizards had been half-blood or muggleborn. Why hadn't he known this?! "Wow, I had no idea..." he trailed off. So why did Eino make him feel so bad. "So do most witches and wizards know about that stuff, what you just said?" She was making him feel better about himself and beginning to see that there was nothing wrong with him, it was the Ravenclaw boy that was wrong.
"Well..." he started trying to think of things from their last two times being together. "He sort of freaks out and seperates himself from me when I brought up that I was Muggleborn or when I tried to calm him down about Muggle transportation that he was afraid of."
Auggie was beginning to wonder if he should tell her who it was.

Snakes. They were all capable of being annoying. "If they get to be too much of a bother, I wont mind bringing it up with Professor Lafay." Though the Slytherin Head of House probably wouldn't make anything of it. No... the snakes were innocent in her eyes. For the most part at least.
She smiled sheepishly as Professor Bentley had most likely took this matter seriously. "No Professor, I mean, there's no need for such measures," she said, shaking her head. The boy was annoying, yes but it also crossed her mind that he had the chance to be her friend. If only he was not that annoying.
She looked up at the Professor and remembered her Aunt Belinda. They were alike. Always concerned and caring and warm. "I'm sure we'll do fine Professor. Besides, I think I have finally met my match." She looked at her watch and found out that it was time to head back to the Common Room. She had once again stayed too late outside. "Professor, thank you for your time but I've got to go back now," Beatrice said as she stood up.

Zhenya smiled brightly as she was invited inside, plant in hand!
"I know you have a million plants from students, but I bought this for you as a Halloween special present!" she said, handing the pot plant to Professor Bentley. It looked just like a miniature rose bush, but instead of flowering roses... there were tiny little pumpkins.
"They don't grow but, about the size of them now," which was about the size of a small mandarin. "And the bush itself only grows as big as it is now," which was the usual size of a miniature rose bush. "The pumpkins bloom the month of Halloween only, but when it is October they do look rather amazing," she said smiling. Yet another one of her grandmothers plants! "We have 5 bushes at home, and they just top off the Halloween decorations! I thought you might like it."

he laughed when she said that a bigger office would be nice "Yes it would be, but it might not seem as cozy as this office is right now. What do you say Caltex?" he asked the cute bundle sitting by his feet now, who then went over to the professor and curled up by her feet. "Always loyal to you I see." Harvey said smiling at Caltex.
It was comforting to know the young Claw wasn't using all his resources simply to get her gifts, that would have been horrible.. especially when he could get himself lots and lots of candy instead. "I suppose that's alright then," she said with a smile, "But don't you go making a habit of it, your company is enough of a gift."
"Cozy is one thing, but cramped is another..." Perhaps she'd look at getting a teeny weeny bot of an extension charm put on it.
Seren grinned down at her bundle of white fluff. "Only when he feels like it, or when I have something he wants."
It was probably feeding time soon.

She looked both fierce and gentle all at the same time - a look Kurumi was not used to seeing on a motherly figure seeing as her mother never really showed that emotion when it came to Kurumi. "The flowerbed had molded over as well." Beyond repair in the young Gryffindor's eyes, but best to leave that out for now.
"Rune of harvest...got it." She did as she was instructed to and walked over to the desk and knelt down to open the drawer and began to rummage through its contents. Merlin was there a lot of stuff in here. Several multicolored shovels labeled in fancy calligraphy, but she didn't spent too much time looking at them as she continued to search for the rune. "Found it!" she called as she held up the tin. Was she going to get to see a real practical use of a galdr in action? Kurumi had to admit that she was on the edge of her seat in anticipation when this thought struck her. Seeing theories actually applied outside of the classroom always got her heart pumping.
She hurried back to Professor Bentley and handed her the tin.
The sight of the little sappling was rather distressing, but there was no point in panicing or being upset, after all she had over looked the little thing earlier... if it hadn't have been for Kurumi it would have been dead. So, if it lived, that would be a bonus.
Oh good, the Gryffindor did know about Runes. Fat lot of good they were. It had been the first, and the last time she purchased a Rune artefact from a back alley Peruvian market stand.
Taking the tin from Kurumi's hand, she gave it a tap with the end of her wand. But the lid wouldn't yeild. "Blasted thing... don't know why I bother with it sometimes," she said giving it another, firmer tap. This time the lid came off smoothly revealing a a light blue powdery substance within. "Powdered horn of Bicorn," she said, pinching a bit between her fingers and sprinkling it over the exposed roots of the plant. Or at least what was left of them. "It will help absorb the moisture without danaging the roots any further..." taking a scrap piece of parchment, she lay the plant out on top of it, leaving it sitting on the corner of her desk. "... now we wait and see. There's no point re-planting it just yet, not while the roots are so far gone, this time tomorrow we'll know if it was successful."

"Most do..." she said nodding sincerely, "... but of course there will always be the few exceptions that don't understand, simply refuse to understand, or have been taught to think otherwise."
Many were often influenced by family. Ridiculous. Stupid. Nonsense!
At least, if it was any consolation, the situaltion that August described wasn't all that serious, even if it was mildly alarming. "I see," she mused. There wasn't a great deal that could be done about it, not unless they were reported officially, or unofficially to an extent. "Well... all I can really say is, just don't let it get to you." Yes, it was easy enough to say, but she understood that there were often implications that came with ignoring things. "But if this person continues to make you feel uncomfortable, or if their behaviour escalates, I do urge you to tell somebody... I'd be more than happy to have a quiet word to them, perhaps try to enlighten them on the situation." Give them a darn good wake up call.

Smiling and nodding, Seren considered the girls question. "In terms of Moon Planting, the relationship between the Zodiacs and their months aren't of as much significance... it's more important to look at what time of the month the Moon itself moves through the influence of the Zodiac constellations. The months itself has more of a seasonal impact on herbology." It had been a qood question though.

She'd been holding her breath, but was instantly relieved to see Destiny standing at her door. Eyeing the Slytherin she arched an eyebrow. "Miss Shepard, please come in... how may I help you today?"
Minding of course the Slytherin didn't decide to kick her fanged geraniums then there was no reson why she couldn't be friendly...
Right.
Just what she expected. Professor Bentley was not going to let her in. Destiny had thought about knocking again, maybe she didn't hear her the first time, but in the end, she had decided to just leave. She had just turned to walk away when the door opened, and she found her hands fumbling to keep the PRESENT hidden behind her back so the woman wouldn't see it. That was close.
A smile made it's way onto her face and a "Hello, Professor!" left her mouth as she turned back to face Bentley, and only after looking at the woman's hands, to make sure there was no dirt..or snowballs ready to be thrown at her or shoved down her throat, she made her way into office.
The very pink office. Sure, there were other colors, but pink!? Destiny expected beige. The color of evil.
But the color of her office was not why she was there. She had things that needed to be said! But first.. "Was I supposed to take my shoes off?"

What with the warmer weather, it didn't come as much of a surprise to Seren that she was suddenly getting more visitors. It was nice to know that the students took the time to think about her.
Swinging the door back on its slightly squeaky hinges, Seren grinned down at Presley. "Presley, come in... how have you been?" she greeted, standing back to let the girl enter.
Presley stepped into the warm office, delighted that Bentley seemed okay with her being there. "Hello professor!" She smiled sweetly. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything?" Because if she was...she could always go away. This wasn't..critically important, per se.
No, Presley was courageous. Or at least she could pretend.

When Alyssa heard Professor Bentley call out for her to enter, she made sure that she cleaned her shoes again and stepped into the office. "Did I actually hear the Professor sing Celestina Warbeck's song?"Alyssa thought to herself. "I didn't know that Professor Bentley could sing that well! Wow! she's good." Alyssa was glad that the Professor was singing because that meant that she was in a better mood.
"Good morning, Professor Bentley, I didn't mean to eavesdrop but you sing very well. I guess you must like Celestina Warbeck's songs. I do too. Her music always makes me want to dance."Alyssa smiled at the Professor. She saw a movement near the Professor's feet and realized that it was Caltex. He was still as adorable as ever.
"Anyway, no time wasting here, Alyssa. The Professor is a busy woman."Alyssa thought to herself. So she quickly stepped forward. "Professor, I know that it is none of my business, but one of my reasons here was to ask whether you were feeling better. I know that you have been under a lot of stress after that crazy situation in the Greenhouse Three with the Snow Dragon and Lord Bott's visit,"Alyssa told the Professor, trying her best not to roll her eyes at the mention of that man's name. "I know that the damage to the greenhouse especially to the plants there, really upset you, so I brought something. These are tree saplings from the Australian Eucalyptus tree. I'm not sure whether you have any in that greenhouse, but I wanted to add to the collection if you did. ."Alyssa handed over the bag of tree saplings to the Professor.
"The second reason I'm here is to ask whether you would have some spare time to teach me how to harvest the Puffapods. I know that some survived the flooding and must be ready for harvesting. I would really love to learn how to harvest them and you were about to teach me how to do it when we got interrupted." Alyssa didn't dare mention by what but she knew that the Professor knew what she was talking about.
Alyssa waited to hear what the Professor had to say.

But if you'd like to take him with you to monitor his condition that would greatly appreciated." Even if parting with the little guy would be painful. It was probably for the best, not only would it be a valluable experience for Kurumi, but if the plant didn't make it, then she wouldn't have to see it happen. "Just let him dry out over night, I don't think it will need much longer than that, and then you can try re-planting him a pot.. once he's planted add a few drops of mooncalf solution at his base and give him the lightest sprinkling of water. Just even to allow the mooncalf solution to seep into the soil, that will hopefully aid his root growth." Provided he wasn't too far gone, but only time would tell.

"Oh thats wonderful," it was always good to see a student smiling, but it was especially nice to hear that Aurora was 'brilliant'. "It's coming along, restorations are being made... I'm sure it'll look better soon enough, especially after the next lesson." Oh yes, indeed, Greenhouse Three would be making a comeback.
Oohh seeds? The students' families were really quite generous, it was lovely to know they were willing to lend a hand... she only had a small budget to work with, and she hadn't really expected to have to use it all on a single greenhouse. "That's so lovely of him, please be sure to send him my regards." Taking he package she opened the top of it and had a little peek inside. "Well you weren't wrong there," she mused. "Umbrella Flowers... they're.. rather big indeed, and they'll be a lovely addition to the greenhouse."
Having said that... it would probably be best to wait a little while before planting these ones. Allow the other plants-to-be to settle into their new home. "Do you mind if I use them in a lesson next term?" she asked, giving the package a little pat.

The look on the girls face was priceless, trully, remarkably, hilarious. What was the girl up to? There was no doubt that she had taken the girl by surprise, though how, she had no idea. "That's not necessay, just so long as you wipe them off on your way in." She was rather curious to see if the Slytherin would take off her shoes. Destiny wouldn't have been the first to do so.
Moving around her desk, Seren plopped herself down, watching as Destiny surveyed her office. Why did the students find it so... peculiar? It was just a normal office... though perhaps a little more floral than most.

No, Presley was courageous. Or at least she could pretend.
"Not at all dear, I always have time for you."
Of course she had time for her students! day or night! Only Borr would say otherwise. "Something on your mind?" Was it just her? Or did Presley seem a little distracted?

Alyssa was glad that the Professor was singing because that meant that she was in a better mood.
"Oh thank you dear, I'm glad you think so... unfortunately I don't think the Flitterbloom would agree with you. But I simply put that down to them being grouchy in the mornings." Silly things.. the others enjoyed her singing. "She really is a fine artist."
One of the best voices in Wizarding History... such a shame her music was often considered to be out dated now.
Oh how sweet! Alyssa came to see how she was. Seren smiled brightly. "I'm doing a lot better thank you, it was just a bit of a shock that's all... when I took the job I never expected I'd have to defend my greenhouses against the attack of snow dragons." Tate never mentioned that in the job description, though she didn't blame him.. that was just Hogwarts, home of the strange and unexpected. She smirked a little as Alyssa mentioned 'Bott' Hehe... Lord Borr really was a bit of a Bott-head. "I wouldn't expect him to understand, seeing as he doesn't know many of the teaching staff... besides the same could be said about the way he handles his position at the Ministry." Minister of Magic, please, that was just absurd, the man wasn't fit to run a candy shop let alone the Ministry and the wider Wizarding Community.
Oohh sapplings! "They're lovely Alyssa, thank you... and no I certainly don't have any yet, so they'll make a wonderful addition." She had always been fond of Australia and its diverse and inspiring vegetation. It had a funny way of reminding her of Aron, perhaps she'd have to owl him some time... see how the Stubby Purple Coral Revival Program was going. "I think they'll find a good home in greenhouse four." Taking the sapplings, she placed them into the corner of the office beside the fanged geraniums for the time being. She could hardly wait to get dirty with them!
Absent mindedly, Seren bent down and scooped Caltex into her arms. The bundle of white fur protesting slightly before settling in her arms. Sigh. The puffapods. "Unfortunately dear, the puffapods didn't make it.. but we'll be able to get to that at a later date. We'll be planting some in the next lesson." Hoepfully this wouldn't dishearten the girl too much. Harvesting puffapods was a fun task, though planting them was just as good.

"Actually I think he feels like it right now. Or he just loves you." he smiled "That Joint lesson was really interesting. I didnt know that the Moon can affect plants in the ways that we looked at. I never heard of it in the muggle world so it was interesting." he smiled
Seren smiled down at Harvey, he really was such a sweet boy. "He is indeed... I simply couldn't leave him at the shelter, just far too cute." She looked down again and gave Caltex a look. What was the pup up to? "I think he just wants attention... or food. He's a little spoilt."
It pleased her to know that Harvey had enjoyed the joint lesson, she would have to pay Edvard a visit later and let him know. "I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and if you think thats special, just you wait and see what I have in store for us next term," she said with a little wink. Moon plants were fun, and far more interesting than Moon Planting.
"Oh, that's fantastic!" Aurora grinned, it was marvellous to know that the poor plants were being rescued or... not. "Oh... will we be replanting it?" she asked, not really expecting the Professor to tell her what the next lesson would be, teachers rarely did that.
"I will do." she said - her uncle was rather enthusiastic when it came to plants - especially flowers. "That makes sense, he has a lot of them..." They took up almost an entire greenhouse... They were pretty though, but rather large. Then again, when they had been big enough to move outside they were nice to sit under in the rain.
"Really? Of course! That would be awesome." Aurora said, smiling. Prof. Bentley was actually asking..? But they were her seeds now anyway, it was her choice what to do with them. Anywho, it was nice of her to ask.

Kurumi nodded to signal that she understood everything that was being said. Professor Bentley already had so much on her plate that it probably would be for the best if Kurumi took the little plant with her. Walnut wouldn't try anything with it - having learned his lesson in doing bad things when he decided to sneak into the Headmaster's office. "I'll do that," Kurumi nodded as she slowly reached out for the little plant and picked it up. "I'll bring him by after breakfast tomorrow, that way you can make sure that he is ready for replanting." After all, she was the more experienced hands with this situation.
Picking up her bag again, Kurumi gingerly held the plant in her right had and looked up at Professor Bentley. "I promise I'll take good care of him." She even offered a small salute to the professor. "I probably should get going. I am tutoring someone in Herbology for their OWLs and you seem to have a lot of students waiting to see you." She offered one last smile before slowly making her way out the door.

"Not at all dear, I always have time for you."
Of course she had time for her students! day or night! Only Borr would say otherwise. "Something on your mind?" Was it just her? Or did Presley seem a little distracted?
Presley's face broke into a smile when Bentley said she always had time for Pres. Nobody had ever said that to her before. She knew there was a reason the Herbology professor was her favorite.
Was something on her mind? Yes. Of course there was. Even at Hogwarts, people's home life affected them daily. However, Presley had been taught that you never told anybody about family problems. The Black family was a societal icon. She couldn't ruin that. She shook her head slowly, then abruptly changed her mind and nodded.
"Do you have any children, professor?" That might be a rude question, Pres didn't even know if Bentley was married. But it greatly affected the conversation. "You don't have to answer if I'm being rude," she hastily ammended. She didn't want Professor Bentley to dislike her.
With the promise of warmer eather to come, Seren had been ina rather chipper mood, and that was only made better by the sound of a knocking at her door. A visitor! Brilliant.
Wandering over and openeing the door, she smiled brightly at one of her favourite Ravenclaws. "Ellie, it's so good to see you, come in come in," she said standing back to allow the Quidditch Captain to enter. It had been a while since she saw the girl outside of class and away from the Quidditch pitch.
OOC: You know the drill, yes? Good. (;
Ellie'd taken to biting her lip and rocking from heel to toe as she waited for Bentley to respond. Which didn't take long, at all. "Hi..." she refrained continuing. They had to have this talk before Ellie'd be comfortable addressing the professor.
Honestly, she was over-thinking this. She already knew it was ridiculous. She just needed the...certainty.
The young girl stepped into the office, minding the Geraniums, as always. The office itself just made her smile. The smell and the colors. It could still do with more purple and less pink, though.
She walked over to the chairs and sat rather stiffy - rather un-Ellie-like - in one.

"Absolutely, we'll be adding nice dash of colour, hopefully by the end of the lesson i wont look so bare."
It was so sad seeing it all empty... really really empty. Though it did give her an excuse to remodel the greenhouse, now she could sequence the plants a bit better.
"I hope you don't mind me asking, but what is it that your Uncle does at the Ministry?" She had considered getting a job there before... but sitting in an office cubicle wasn't really her kind of thing, so she opted for travelling and teaching. Much better.
It pleased her to know that Aurora didn't mind her using them in a lesson, not that she thought she would mind. But it was nice to ahve the green light. "Fantastic!"

Seren took a glance at the plant again, hoping that tomorrow he would be looking a little better at least.
Tutoring someone in Herbology, now that didn't surprise her at all, in fact it brought a bigger smile to her face. "Well I'm sure they're going to do very well under your watch." Seren watched and smiled to herself as the Prefect made her way out the door. After all that excitement she definitely needed a cup of tea. Perhaps a nice chamomile today.

Seren pursed her lips in concern. So something was playing on Presley's mind. The young Claws question took her a little by surprise, did she have children?...
"Depends which way you look at it," she said, her tone warm but mildly serious. "After having taught here for close to two years I often feel as though my students are my children... in the way that I am here for all of you should you need me. But by the same token, my plants .. and Caltex, are also my children. I care for you all."
No.. not the same as having an actual living, breathing human child of your very own, but it was close enough. It was all she needed, despite what her mother thought.

Ellie's behaviour didn't go unnoticed, this was definitely strange for the usually bright and cheerful Captain. Following Ellie over to her desk, she took her own seat and laced her fingers together in thought. "Is something the matter Ellie?" she asked, not really sure what to expect.

"Yes its... slightly different. When we look at the Zodiac signs for Herbology its more to determine which energies are being emphasised. So water signs influence plants which have a higher water content, or aquatic plants themselves, and fire signs for fire plants and fruit bearing trees where the energy is focused on the seeds and on their flammable properties." She hoped this was making sense. It really wasn't much like astrology or even astronomy... Plants didn't behave as humans do.

"They are rather lovely aren't they," she mused brightly. Eucalyptus was one of her favourite scents.. though not quite as favourable as her pepermint.
"No problem dear, thank you for stopping by," she smiled brightly giving the Hufflepuff a wave goodbye. "I'll see you in class."

Ah he deserves to be spoilt, just one look at those eyes and you cant say no to him" Harvey's ears perked up when she talked about special lessons next term. "You mean there is something better than what we have had already? Woah! Oh Professor now I really cant wait for that lesson!" he said beaming so much he felt actually begging the professor for more details.
"I know.. I thought it was outrageous!"
Really, who could abandon such a cute little fluff ball... it just sickened her. Silly muggles, most of them didn't even deserve pets! And to think there were rumours going around about reviewing the Statute of Secrecy.... that was the most ludicrous idea she'd ever heard. Nothing good would come of it.
"Well thats the plan dear," she said laughing lightly. Honestly, he didnt think the lessons would just get worse did he? No.. this one would be a show stopper. So much fun!
