It was such a nice day outside, the weather was mild, not quite warm but not cold either. Just the way Seren liked it. Unfortunately the lesson wasn’t being held outdoors, no, it was being held in Greenhouse One, where the air was cooler, and the smell of damp soil filled the air.
As you enter the greenhouse the first thing you notice are the stools arranged to the side of the greenhouse by the door, and directly opposite these are stools of a different variety. That’s right, toadstools! While they may look harmless from a distance it’s not wise to get too close to them just yet, after all you wouldn’t want to be sent to the Hospital Wing before the lesson has even started.
Waiting patiently for the students to arrive, Professor Bentley stood by the door to welcome them as they entered; Though she was careful to position herself near the seating area so that she can keep an eye on any mischief making. Standing slightly to the side of the toadstools, was Professor Bentley’s old blackboard, neat and tidy cursive writing slowly appearing on its surface- as if by magic!

Now that she had a numbed toadstool, Stella was able to feel a bit more sympathy for extracting its fangs. Even if they'd grow back, and if it would have tried to bite her hand off if she hadn't numbed it, it was kind of like defanging a tiger or something. Of course, she wasn't about to even think about approaching a tiger, but the concept was still there. She just kept reminding herself that it was for the lesson, and it would be over soon. And then she could hopefully forget about the poor toadstool. Something told her that was going to be the hard part. She never should have talked to it in the first place, that was for sure.
But now to get the first fang. She placed a hand gently yet firmly on the toadstool's cap, then slowly reached for the protruding fang. Squinching her eyes shut, she pulled. Feeling an odd, almost popping sensation, she opened her eyes to see the fang in her hand. That wasn't as hard as she'd thought. "One down, one to go," she murmured, almost petting the toadstool for a moment before standing up again and bringing the fang over to the jar. I can do this, she assured herself as she placed the fang in the jar, then turned to go back to the toadstool. This would be over in no time.

SPOILER!!: Hera
Seren watched as the students continued to practice the incantion and the wand movement... seperately of course.
SPOILER!!: Student Responses
Seren blinked, how could you stuff up a jab? "Well so long as you don't poke something or spear it... then it can't be too disastrous."
Oh... that was normal. It was. She did it all the time. "Very well, continue," she said smiling.
Seren eyed the Slytherin boy, his wand in hand, and using the incantation at the same time?! Thank Merlin there wasn't anyone or anything in his way. "Minus five points from Slytherin.... when practicing we do not use the inacantation and wand movement at the same time, unless instructed to do so."
Seren smiled brightly, " Very good."
How powerful was an achoo? what was a ... OOHHH ACHOO! Seren's eyes widened as the boy wen t into a sneezing fit. Oh Merlin. "Up, up, come on," she said gently helping the boy up by the elbow. "You're alright dear."
"Alergies... should be taken care of before soming to class. I suggest you take a trip to the Hospital Wing or to the Potions Mistress, you need to have this looked at." She sighed. "But if you think you can handle it, then you can wait till the end of the lesson."... or was that just not going to work?
Seren observed as the girl practiced the wand movement in front of her. "Yes, yes, very good," she said nodding in approval.
“Ok now I understand you haven’t practiced the spell yet... but you will be doing this on the toadstools.” Yes... first time’s a charm? She hoped sp. She didn’t want them to suddenly become Blaze Again Buttons. “Remember to speak very clearly, and calmly... don’t rush it.” Pause.
“You will know that they’re numb when they no longer have control of their actions... so they’ll be a little... all over the place, and slower than usual.” Seren took a few strides toward one of the Biting toadstools, pulling on her dragon hide gloves as she went.
“Viro Torpeo,” she said jabbing her wand in the ‘stools direction. Of course it had the desired effect. Seren wiggled her finger around the toadstools cap, as it squirmed around trying to get its teeth around her glove and failing. It seemed to be a little groggy.
“Now as I’ve already mentioned we will be harvesting the fangs so that they may be kept in the potions stores cupboard for later use.”
She positioned herself behind the toadstool, facing the class. Demonstration time.
“Start by getting a firm grip on the toadstools cap, be careful not to get too close to the teeth. ... And don’t grasp the cap too tightly, or you’ll risk damaging the plant.... “ she demonstrated by placing her hand on the top of the cap and holding it in place. “Do not... under any circumstances use a Freezing Charm, otherwise the fangs won’t come out cleanly and you’ll run the risk of them not growing back.”
She gazed around at the students’ faces to make sure they understood. “ Then you need to get a good grip on the fang... one at a time... and yank in a downward direction.” Gripping one of the fangs, Seren did just that. With a sharp, clean yank, the fang came out. The toadstool didn’t protest... much. “Try to do this in one swift movement, it’s the quickest and the most efficient way to get them out... otherwise you’ll be pulling a little while.” Either way, they would get them out. Eventually.
She held it up for the class to see. Quickly she repeated the process, then held up the second fang to show the students. “Once you have successfully harvested both fangs from your Biting Toadstool, please place it in this jar.”
Seren held up a fairly big jar and placed it on a spare stool beside the blackboard.
With a flick of her wand, the instructions appeared on the board.
“Right, make sure you have your gloves on. If for some reason you forgot to bring them with you... or have misplaced them, you will find spares in the cupboard by the greenhouse door. Please return them at the end of class if you borrow them.”
And without further ado, Seren stepped aside, motioning for the students to approach a Biting Toadstool. Let the fun begin!

Tugging at the dragonhide gloves on his hands and making sure that they were secure, Theodore set out to do the task, hopefully painlessly.
"Viro torpeo!" He spoke, jabbing his wand in the direction of the plant. Sure enough, it worked! For a moment, he stopped to double check and make sure that movement was non-existent. Thank Merlin it was! Or he would have been quite depressed at failing at such an easy incantation. Looking around, he checked to see others' progress, particularly that of the Ravenclaws. They needed house points! Maybe if he willed a few of them to work faster and more efficiently, they would?
Ashley wrote some more, even though this part didn't really need too many notes, as she was pretty much just telling them what to do next. Still, it was at least good to know what would indicate that the toadstool was numb and everything.
Once that was done, he eyed the toadstools, grabbing his gloves and pulling them on before taking up his wand again. Right!
Sliding off his seat, he approached a toadstool, watching it carefully. He still didn't know if it was just hiding an urge to chew his face or something, although somewhere in the back of his mind, he figured they would have been warned of something like that. He pointed his wand, moving his lips in the shape of the words at first, as he wanted to make sure he said them right. Then he jabbed, voicing the incantation, "viro torpeo!"... and then he watched, eyebrows raised. "Did it work?" Yes, he was asking the toadstool. It seemed to still be very much in control of itself, though. Ashley frowned, and took a practice jab. Maybe he'd done it wrong while he was trying not to actually hit the toadstool.
Once he was satisfied with his jab, he tried again. "Viro torpeo," he said in a more confident voice, remembering the jab and to concentrate.
Just as he thought that this was going to be very embarrassing, starting to worry that he was going to have to do it over and over while everyone else was getting it done and over with fairly quickly, Ashley realized his toadstool seemed a little... bored? What? Leaning in close, he reached out to touch the plant's cap as he'd seen done, realizing that instead of trying to gnaw his face or hands off, the toadstool seemed to have no idea what it needed to do in order to move. He ventured another touch, just to be sure, then settled back in relief. Finally.
Luna put on her gloves as told then she poked the mushroom just to be sure she did it right ''Great now to start to harvest...'' she muttered to herself
She turned it around and there was the fangs even if she wasn't suppose to pull them off she would she held the cap and gave the fang a gentle pull and it was out ''Okay..... What next?' she asked herself as she looked up to the blackboard Right second fang should be interesting
Faven was absolutely terrifed, and it was all in the name. BITING toadstools, sounds ferocious as it is, and the Professor wanted them to pull out the fangs!!! Faven took a deep breath and decided to suck it up, she liked this Professor and wanted to impress her by any means neccesary, even facing a biting toadstool. Not to mention the fact she was concerned about the poor toadstools. Wouldn't this be a terrible experience for them, even with the numbing spell. Faven put her faith in the Professor, believing she would hever cause purposeful harm to a plant. Even so, Faven hoped that the fangs would grow back quickly.
Faven wrote down tthe directions in her notebook and took out her dragon hide gloves, putting them on as she gathered her notebook and wand.ttle nervous about this. With all that she needed, she headed over towads the toadstools, she wasn't going to be able to back out, this had to go well.
Faven walked up to the littliest toadstool that was still availabel. "Alright," she said, while looking over her directions. She repeated the incantation in her mind over and over again, Viro Terpeo, Viro Terpeo. Faven set her purpose in her mind, to numb the plant, and pointed her wand at the plant, with a sharp thrust, she said the spell, "Viro Terpeo", with conviction.Almost immediatly the plant seemed to be soothed, and while appearing no less dangerous, the reaction time was noticeably slower. She wanted to test the numbing out though, and lightly tugged on one of the fangs. When the toadstool didn't reacte, Faven was thrilled with her successful spell, her first.

Everett grinned at Aiden as she spoke to him, though didn't have a chance to reply because soon after the class started. Listening to the professor talk, he locked it all in his mind, planning on writing notes afterwards, too lazy then. He let the other students guess and answer, more concentrating on listening than answering. And then it the practical part.
After practicing the incantation a few times, Everett proceeded with trying it out, making sure his gloves were on properly first. "Viro Torpeo," He said, doing the wand movement also. It took a few times, but soon enough he had managed to numb the toadstool. Everett put his finers near it, and watched as the little toadstool tried and failed to nom at them, as he easily moved it away in time.
He spoke out loud. "Viro Torpeo," he repeated from professor Bentley. "Viro Torpeo. Viro Torpeo. Viro Torpeo." Right, that was alright?
The wand movement was a jab. Hugo jabbed as precisely as he could, remembering the instructions in the charms book. Jab. Jab. Jabjabjab. Okay. Well that wasn't hard.
Right. Now for the fun part. Hugo put on his gloves and walked towards his Toadstool. Viro Torpeo. Jab. He practised it a bit without the incantation then cracked his knuckles and neck. He looked at the Toadstool. It was wobbling around quite a bit, then stood still when Hugo pointed his wand at the thing. "Viro Torpeo."Jab. The Toadstool seemed to be slower... What was Bentley's description again? All over the place? Slow movements? Yup, this one was definitely numb alright. He thought. Probably. Yeah...
She held the cap of the mushroom again and gave it yet another gentle pull but it wouldn't come out for her ''Oh?'' she tried it again but a little bit harder and then it did come out this time but she barely touched the second one it more or less came out for her how odd
Then she put them in the jar and waited for everyone else and of course the teacher ''All done'' she muttered to herself

"Okay little toadstool. Just a bit more and then you can go back to play with all your little toadstool friends," Stella said, once she'd gotten back to the toadstool she'd chosen. After dropping the first extracted fang into the jar. Oddly enough, by now she really didn't feel weird talking to a toadstool, even though it made her feel another wave of sympathy over taking its fangs away, even temporarily. At least the little toadstool still looked numb and groggy, which was definitely going to make things easier. She didn't want to have to cast the charm over again, as who knew what that might do to the fungi.
Kneeling down again, she carefully placed her hand on the cap again, then grasped the second fang. Making sure to keep her eyes open this time, just to verify that the charm didn't wear off mid-tug, she yanked quickly then fell backward a little as the fang came out. Eyeing the toadstool, her eyes widened as it seemed it chose that moment to break free of the charm and she scuttled backward to get out of reach of its remaining teeth. "I'm sorry, little toadstool. You'll get your fangs back soon, and thank you for these," she said, quickly getting to her feet again. At least that put most of her further out of reach of the teeth. It wouldn't go after her ankles, right? Either way, she made sure to go back to the jar again before she could find out.
"That's my second fang, Professor Bentley," she said to the professor, just in case she hadn't been watching. Then, with another glance at her toadstool, she made her way back to the safety of her stool. Hopefully it would get over the extraction soon.

Nope, the plant definitely didn't feel that. Alright, he was ready for the next part. Herbology was fun. He didn't mind getting dirty. Hugo looked at the blackboard, at steps two and three. Get a firm hold of the cap. Grasp and yank. "Alright," he mumbled to himself and layed his hand on the cap, his fingers closing in on the edge. He was now holding it firmly. Right? He held it a bit more firm, careful not to damage the Toadstool. With his left hand, he approached the fang carefully. He grasped it, and pulled. But it didn't come out. The fang was still stuck. The Toadstool was protesting a little bit more, but under the effects of the charm. He let go of the fang. What did he do wrong? Just try again. Maybe faster? He gripped the cap and grasped the fang. Then, he quickly yanked the fang downwards. And... There it was. He let go of the Toadstool, looking at the fang in his hand. Coool. But where was he supposed to leave the fang whilst harvesting the other? Just in his right hand while gripping the cap? It seemed so. "You all right, little fellow?" he asked and patted the Toadstool's cap. "Hope I didn't hurt you..." Of course not. It was under the effects of the spell right? And Hugo had to admit, he was quite good at spells.

Okay so they were up. The professor was now instructing to do the numbing charm on the toadstools. Shouldn't be as hard as it looks like, right? After all, under all that these plants just seems harmless with the numbing charm, right? RIGHT?
Jonathan who still had his wand pointed it on one of the toadstools. Aim, jab, incantation. Simple. The plants might look weird but really, he has gloves already. It shouldn't be as much of a hassle now.
"Viro Torpeo" he jabbed his wand as he aimed to one of the toadstools. He was sure that his spell won't work on the first time... but looking at it, looks like the toadstool slowed down. YIPPEEE.
Jonathan smiled as he done the spell with the correct wand movement on the first take. His heart beat was thumping hard. He wanted to do it correctly the first time and he did.

Looking up at Professor Bentley, Elise watched the demonstration. Charm. Grap toadstool, Fang one. Fang two. Got it.
Reaching into her pocket, Elise pulled out her dragon hide gloves. Yeah, just to be safe... Then, she put them on. Yeah!
Approaching her toadstool, Elise stared at it. Jumping and biting the air. Pulling out her wand, she gave it a sharp jab. "Viro Torpeo." she said slowly.
The toadstool slowed down a little, looking lazy. It moved a little, then fell over and attempted to get up. It looked numb... It was numb.... Right? Probably....

Reason: numbering post
When that toadstool had been properly numbed, Eino consulted his notebook for the next set of instructions. He had to get a firm hold of the toadstool's cap but without hurting it, but he really didn't know how firm was 'firm enough but not too firm.' He first placed his left hand on its cap and checked to see if the plant could still move freely. He held it tightly, wrapping his fingers around it, but not too tightly to avoid permanently hurting it. The toadstool didn't seem to be very comfortable or happy, but it wasn't struggling to be freed, so Eino tightened his grip slightly until the he could feel the entire cap tightly lock in his hand. That was good, now he had to do the hard part. Yikes.
♣ Heejin here | Did somebody say coffee & cakes? | cat lover ♣
Now that he has done the first part which was the numbing of the toadstool. He is now ready to yank those fangs. He put his wand beside him and watch the toadstool looked helpless? Well, to him it kinda looked like it needed some help.
Looking at the bored the first thing he has to do to take out the fans was to : -Get a firm hold of the cap – but not too firm.
-With your other hand grasp hold of one of the fangs, and yank!
"Get a firm hold of the cap" he looked at the toadstool and held it's cap. Okay, then. "With your other hand grasp hold of one of the... fangs" he then again turned to the toadstool and did what the instructions. Check. Lastly, "Yank" Jonathan mumbled. yank it is.
He didn't want to yank it as hard, the poor toadstool didn't deserve it but he did it quickly like what the professor did. He did watch her so that he could do this carefully and precisely as possible.
And here comes the fangs. Good thing Jonathan was attentive in today's herbology lesson. He put the first fang in one of the jars that the professor has provided for them. Awesome.
Now that his left hand had tightly secured the toadstool's cap, and the plant wasn't fighting back, Eino prepared himself to yank the first fang. Oh Merlin help him. He reached for the toadstool's first fang and tried to grab it with his index finger and thumb. It was a little difficult with the thick dragon hide gloves but after a few tries he managed to grab it successfully. He quickly glanced over his notes and yep: YANK! That's what it said. He counted and on three he pulled the fang downward very quickly. He didn't feel anything! Maybe he was the one that had been numbed but he really hadn't felt anything. He thought it would snap or something, but there it was, the fang in between his fingers, and the toadstool seemed perfectly fine. One fang down, one more to go!
Herbology...eughhh.
At least they were doing something now.
'Hmm so what do I have to do?' Scott thought.
1) Ensure the toadstool is numb, and cannot feel pain. (You will know it is numb when it doesn’t appear to be in control of its movements.)
"Viro Torpeo" he said, whilst using the appropiate wand movement. That seemed to have done the trick.
2) Get a firm hold of the cap – but not too firm.
3) With your other hand grasp hold of one of the fangs, and yank!
He followed the instructions exactly, and wasn't violent when taking the fangs.
He found it a bit of a struggle but persevered and eventually took one out. He put the first fang in the jar and smiled at the professor, then returned to take another one. "This is so easy" he said quietly to himself.

Viro Torpeo... Aurora muttered the incantation to herself until confident she had got it right, practiced the wand movement a few times and then looked at her toad stool. "Viro Torpeo." she jabbed her wand at it. Hmm, she waved her gloved finger at it closely... it seemed a little disorientated... maybe try again for good measure... She ended up using the spell three times before the Toad Stool looked sufficiently sleepy .
Before yanking the second fang, Eino placed the first fang down, then wiped his brow. He was sweating over such an easy task... He really had to take it easy, it wasn't rock science. After several seconds, he repeated the same technique he had used to remove the first fang. He grabbed it with his two fingers and quickly pulled it downward. Done. The toadstool seemed to be unharmed. He let go on its cap, pet it, then picked up the two tiny fangs. Of the entire activity, the petting was definitely the part the toadstool had enjoyed the least. With the two fangs, Eino made his way to the jar on Professor Bentley's desk and deposited them. There, all done. He returned to his seat, removed his gloves and wiped them on his handkerchief because they were a little sweaty. Then he just sat back and waited patiently.

Now that he was done getting the first fang, it's time to deal with the second fang again. Jonathan can't wait to finish this. And quite frankly, he is enjoying this one already. Jonathan is finally enjoying Herbology. Well, it kinda makes sense because in some ways, Herbology is linked to Potions.
Now for the second fang. Of course, with the same procedure, he held the cap, grip the fang, and yank it. Jonathan did the second one faster than the first. Finally, he is now done with his second fang.
As so, he put it on the jar together with the first fang. Yup. He is done. See? That wasn't hard at all. It was all in his head. He didn't like Herbology because of his OCD reasons but they are wearing gloves and protective head gear. So there is nothing to fret about.
Now, he went back to his seat as soon as he sealed his jar and passed it.
“Once you have completed the activity you may return to your seat.”

Post 2: Harvest the first fang. Follow the process.
Post 3: Harvest the second fang and deposit them into the jar.
Right. Time to harvest the fang. Aurora put her hand on the cap of the Toad Stool and used her other to find one of the long fangs. When her fingers found it she gripped tightly and braced herself. One, two, three... PULL! She yanked the fang out. Brilliant! She readjusted her grip and prepared to harvest the next fang.

MJ finished taking her notes and pulled on her gloves, whispering "Viro Torpeo," to herself the whole time. She approached her toadstool, jabbed her wand and said confidently "Viro Torpeo!" MJ waited a few seconds then gave her toadstool a gentle poke, it gnashed at her!! Ooops!! Not so great on the charm-work there!! She tried again, making her voice a little more firm and her wand jab a little more energetic (whilst being careful not to take the next student's eye out in the process). Woo hoo!! It worked this time!! MJ's toadstool was getting slow and dazed.

"Okay, Honey! A little more and you can go play!" Elise whispered as she set down the first fang. The toadstool still looked sleepy, but not enough for Ellie to feel safe.
"Viro Torpeo." Jab. There. Now you look sleepy.
Wiping her brow, she wriggled her finger under the cap again and YANKED HARD!
YES! She did it!
"Thanks for the fangs, 'Stoolie!" she whispered as she set the stool down.
"Here you go, Professor!" she said as she deposited the fangs into the bigfat jar.
Then, she hurried back to her stool, glad that the fang harvesting was over and done with.
