"Oh don't be a baby the professor said it would not get hot enough to burn you." Minerva laughed. Ok let me try again. "Argentum Cal-li-dus" This time her egg became warm. Yes it worked..

" Well, how do you know I haven't got sensitive or delicate hands? " Justin joked. " See, It's all in the Pronunciation, Minnie. " He said as he poked her with the handle of his wand. " Try the next one and think about how your saying as you say the incantation. "

Minerva shook her head and looked at her notes. She raised her wand twirled and then pointed "Argentum Fri-gi-dus" Her egg became cold. She gave a big smile at Justin. "You know Justin I think you just might be my lucky charm..Your turn."

Justin followed Minerva's Charm exactly , " Argentum Fri-gi-dus! " And of course his egg was very cold. " Well done , Minnie. I think we've got it. Did the professor say we couldn't try to charm each others eggs? " He asked. He want to see if she would let them switch eggs and test their stength with charms.

"Hmm I don't know. We better not I don't want to get into anymore trouble with her."

" Okay, Well I'm gonna go back to the common room if you want to join me. " Justin said.

"Sounds good to me! Let's go!"

" Alright. " and with that Justin and minnie started off for the common room.

Peering around the door, MJ could see that the Charms Annexe was empty. She took a seat and settled down with her egg. She'd managed to leave Muffin in the Girls' Dorm and she had no idea where Avis was. MJ wasn't sure if pets were allowed in here, but they probably weren't and she didn't want to get into trouble. Besides, both her pets had issues with the egg, so here seemed like a great place to experiment with it without it being pecked at or licked or something else random. The egg always seemed happy when MJ paid attention to it. It must have something affectionate inside it, she thought. MJ sat polishing the egg for a while, using the Excolo charm that Professor Schirmer had taught them. Temperature-wise the egg seemed about right, so MJ decided to mess with some other charms that she'd been taught. The Professor did say they weren't confined to just those five. "Wingardium Leviosa!" She cried. The egg levitated off the desk, in line with MJ's eyes. Suddenly, it made a high-pitched wailing sound. MJ dropped her wand and caught the egg, just before it hit the desk (dropping her wand had broken her hover charm). The Ravenclaw sat and stared at her egg. As soon as she'd caught it, it had gone quiet, but it seemed to be trembling. MJ cast Argentum Calidus on it, as it always cheered up with that one, then wrapped it in her robes, resting it in her lap. It made a sort of happy chirping noise.

"Immobulus!"

The tennis shoe Aspen had just shed hung frozen in the air above her head, between her school tie, a book, and a quill. She was systematically going through her belongings, tossing them up in the air, then freezing them in place.

Practice, of sorts.


She spun around the room, looking for something bigger to toss up in the air and freeze, oblivious to others' comings and goings.

Taryn glanced at Aspen from her perch on the window. She took in the girl's curious look and squinted at her for a moment, closing her Charms book. She leaned forward and pulled up her other leg. She shook her head, "Don't even think about it." No thanks, she had no need to become target practice.

Aspen had almost forgotten Taryn was there she was so dedicated to her quest to find things to freeze in the air.

But now that Taryn had her attention....

Hmmmmmm!

"You know that is like saying.... don't think about trolls," -- now they BOTH were thinking about trolls, right?

Aspen smiled at her friend as she thought about trolls AND how much Taryn might weigh.

Trolls.

Right.

"And what exactly do trolls have to do with... ANYTHING?" Taryn asked, momentarily confused and semi-distracted. She stretched both of her legs down and stood after a moment. "You want to freeze a troll?"

Head tilt.

Consideration.

That would be kind of fun, actually.

"Nothing," Aspen answered easily, "Just proving a point." That was obviously lost on the Slytherin. Aspen let it go, already moving on to the task at hand.

She shimmied past Taryn and climbed up in the vacated window seat, then carefully pushed from her knees up to a standing position.

... A decent height...

"If you jump from here....," then maybe Aspen could immobulize Taryn....? She tapped her wand thoughtfully against the windowsill at her back, still mentally weighing the Slytherin.

Taryn looked at Aspen as if she had hippogriffs flying out of her mouth. What? Jump? No.

She crossed her arms, tilting her head to look up at the crazy Ravenclaw. "You're not serious, right? What if you miss? I don't fancy flying without a broomstick."

She fell silent for a moment, considering.

"Are you sure you can make it?" And keep her in one piece without a trip to the hospital wing?

Aspen noted the look before tucking her hair behind her ears. "You wouldn't fall very far," she demonstrated by taking a giant step off the seat, like stepping off the end of a pirate plank back to the floor.

But Aspen was 100% serious. Wasn't the shoe hanging over their heads indicative of that? As for SURE? Of course not. That's why Aspen was practicing.

"I suppose you should look up a cushioning charm if you're afraid of falling."

For this purpose, and for general purposes. Good charm to know. Meanwhile, Aspen de-shoed her other foot, tossed it HIGHER than the other things and tried to immobulize it at a higher height.

Afraid?

That was the only part of Aspen's reply that stuck with Taryn. She was NOT afraid! "Okay. Fine. I'll do it." She was rather interested, actually, in whether or not it would work.

If Aspen would be able to cast a strong enough spell. Hmmmm.

It was worth the fall to find out.

She climbed back onto the window, pushing her book aside as she stood up. "On your mark."

Once again finding herself in the Charms annexe, MJ decided to try out some more of her growing spell repertoire on the egg. It obviously didn't like heights, since it screamed the place down when subject to the hover charm. MJ thought through the spells she knew - those taught in classes first, then some she had taught herself in the library. She immediately decided not to try anything she'd learnt in Potions on her egg, as she wasn't sure what those spells actually did when just cast as a spell, instead of a Potions finale step. Maybe some were only for potions, MJ really didn't know and she wasn't about to risk a term long assignment on it. She also disregarded the numbing and stunning spells from Herbology - she didn't think her egg would enjoy those at all!! They might even damage it. The little First Year ended up practising Transfiguration spells on the egg, with the exception of Diffindo, of course!

"Felintas!" She said, imagining the egg changing shape and size. She grew it larger and changed the swirly pattern to polka dots. "Ristaris!" Now the egg was bright red, added to the other changes. MJ thought hard about what it had originally looked like as she cast the counter spell. "Intaris!" The egg seemed to like these wardrobe changes. It chirped cheerfully throughout. It kept making sounds like giggles. MJ decided to find it a mirror and try lots of different colours, shapes and sizes with it. Perhaps she could find what its favourite colour was... Could a non-living metal egg have a favourite colour? But then - could said metal egg chirp and giggle? Well yes, this one could. Excitedly, MJ dashed out of the Charms Annexe up to the Ravenclaw Tower, eager to try this out properly where the egg could see itself and she could monitor its reactions.

Aspen momentarily wondered if Taryn had Gryffindor's in her family and bloodline. She kept her smirk hidden, regardless, as Taryn took her spot on the window seat.

"I wouldn't go head first or anything. You'll probably fall faster than I can cast... at least the first time. Maybe... back up and try to jump... and fall slow..." Aspen, meanwhile, was backing up to allow Taryn some space. Her wand was up and ready though, poised to FREEZE her friend in the air.

Tucked behind a desk at the back of the Charms Annexe, MJ Cacklesmaw examined her egg carefully. Something wasn't right. The egg was hideously hot, and sweating. Every so often, she'd hear it whimpering, as if it was in pain. MJ frowned in concern and concentration. Was this supposed to happen? Was this right? Should she see Professor Schirmer? The egg seemed to be coming down with something; running a fever. MJ cast the cooling (Argentum Frigidus) and drying (Argentum Siccus) charms on it, but it didn't seem to change its melancholy vibe. "You are definitely ill, Bugsy," the little girl said sadly. Just then, the egg sneezed. "Oh yuck! Egg snot!" MJ cringed. "Tergeo!" She cried, removing the stain. She sighed and rolled her eyes. "Excolo!" Polishing the egg, she thought about casting a Cheering Charm on it.

In the end, she decided to keep it cool and dry, but otherwise leave it be. MJ kept it with her, so she could keep an eye on things.

"............Three!" Taryn pushed off of the window's ledge and jumped into the air.

Humongously stressed, MJ flopped into a corner of the Charms Annexe. Bugsy had recovered from his apparent illness quite quickly, but it had worn MJ out taking care of him, along with all her other work. And Muffin. Avis could look after himself pretty well, but he still needed play time and attention.

The little Ravenclaw gathered her robes about her so they weren't in her way and had a look at Bugsy. The egg seemed to shiver a little, so MJ cast Argentum Calidus on it to warm it up a little. Polishing the egg with "Excolo!", she let her mind wander out across the grounds and all the way back home.

Aspen was crouched and aimed when her friend took flight. She'd thought she was ready, but Taryn actually didn't fall all that slow.

Time seemed to slow.... or.... Aspen's spell WORKED! Sort of! Taryn was falling, but with Aspen's help - she was falling SLOWLY!

...or was, until Aspen let her spell go out of excitement.

It was kind of cool to be in sloooow motion for a while. Taryn thought that maybe Aspen was going to hold the spell till she got to the ground, but she had been wrong, and when Aspen lost her concentration, Taryn hit the ground fast.

Luckily, she was pretty good at landing.

"Let's try that again!"

Egg in one hand and wand in the other, Sierra Greingoth wandered the hallways until she ended up in the Charms Annex. She'd just recently received the egg in her hand, and now she was meant to care for this egg in ways she didn't even know if she was capable of doing. She didn't even show care for most people, so how in the name of Merlin was she meant to show care for a blasted egg?!

The points.

She'd just think of the points every time she had to do something with the egg. She sat down in an empty area of the corridor and just stared at her egg. She was meant to be doing some 'getting to know you' activity with it, which was something she could care less about. What she really wanted to do was toss the egg to the depths of the lake and let it be forgotten.

She stared at it some more. How was she meant to be getting to know an inanimate object?! No way was she telling this thing her name. She'd feel like a fool. So she just stared at it some more. Maybe it'd recognize the look of its owner--because she wasn't referring to herself as its mother. Just then, the egg gave a slight quiver, and Sierra sat up straight and looked at it with a wide-eyed expression. What was it doing?! Had she already killed it?!

...no. She hadn't, because it'd quivered again. Sierra instinctively reached out and touched it. Merlin! Why was it so frazzling hot?! Had that been why it'd quivered? She eyed it. What do you want, you blasted egg?! In response, it quivered again. Argh! It wanted her attention. Why, egg?! Why?! She released her wand from its holster and aimed it toward the egg. Alright. This was it. Time for the first spell. With a swish and tap, she said, "Argentum Frigidus!" The egg was still, and then it quivered again. Sierra touched it and discovered it had slightly cooled. So with another swish and tap, she said, "Argentum Frigidus!" Another touch told Sierra the egg was back to its normal temperature.

So she hadn't killed it after all. The points. She was still getting points...
