| | Slytherin House Table Eat, drink, and be merry, O Snakes. Classes begin again tomorrow.
The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear. And what's this? The silverware is tarnished and askew, almost as if thrust on the table willy-nilly. Take a seat and search for a clean spoon while the Sorting Hat ceremony commences. The House Elves have done their clean up work quickly and effectively, and the silverware and dishes are now set to right. |

"Was it a glitch?" O__e
She knew it was strange her house was shouted so quickly compared to the other mounting the stool. The tomboy looked down in confusion.
First the hat. Then the silverware. "well, it talked just not a lot you know just like being well the sorting hat you know. it was weird." Thinking about it Ariana found it weird herself the hat did a lot of talking when sorting but not with her.. MAybe it was because she came from a line of pure-blood Slytherin's, Maybe it's cause she's a natural Slytherin Ariana didnt know. "i'm Sorry I'm Aria., You are?" Ariana said as she let out a hand. "Hopefully someone will talk to the house elves about this..." "yeah it felt weird, Kinda tickled in a weird way. And yes yes i know it's soo gross ugh i hope it isnt like this all year long." |

Lorelai put her nail file away and took her mirror out. Checking her reflection, she tilted the mirror slightly. Three guesses what she was looking for. Every new girl had to look for at least one good looking guy. And there were likely to be a fair few around Hogwarts too. It was a huge castle. But the statistics of it weren't ever going to be in her mind so for now, she'd have to just look around. And, umm, get to know a few guys? Make-up? Perfect. Not too much. Not too little. Just right for her. Next, her hair. Which wasn't as tidy as it was when she did it that morning. She tidied it up and put the mirror away. There we go. All done.
O no she didn't just snap at her. Lorelai raised her eyebrows at the girl. Not a good idea. Now she was pushing it. As if giving her the family history wasn't enough. Now she was practically asking for sympathy? That wasn't going to happen. She'd just met the girl and she didn't have the faintest idea who this Adrianna person was. So why should she sympathise over someone she didn't know? Lorelai NEVER did that. "Let me get this straight, you tell me this girl wants to go professional and you expect me to guess she's ill? I'm not a mind reader, Miss Charday" she replied in a tone that wasn't harsh but it wasn't polite either. Being harsh did not look good on her. But neither did being polite. So she'd meet in the middle.
And now she definitely was asking for sympathy. Same again, she'd just met her. Why on Earth would she show sympathy? For a start, she's never been in any situation like it before. And she'd never met anyone who'd been in that situation before either so how was she meant to react? Lorelai shook her head trying to avoid rolling her eyes. "Look, I've only just met you. You know nothing about me. I'm not the sympathetic type. Especially when it comes to stuff I've never experienced before. Least of all when someone's I don't even know goes and tells me something like that" she replied. Now her temper was rising. Calm down, Lorelai. She's not worth it she thought silently to herself. "...And you can't expect me to understand. Understand?" she added. This girl was going to get on her temper, wasn't she? Great. She had tears in her eyes. Lorelai sighed deeply. And there was no way she was going to apologise either. She hadn't technically done anything wrong so she didn't have anything to apologise for. Looks like we have another girl with an attitude on our hands she thought in her head. Maria felt a few tears run down her face. "Whatever. I can't stand you. I tried to make friends. I shouldn't have snapped like that, but my sister told me this: You know that kid you tripped and got ink all over his parchment? He spent six hours straight studying just to get it just right. You know that girl you called fat? She's taking potions to make her skinny and they could kill her--" Like Ad was doing. "--And you know that kid you called ugly? She cakes make-up on so someone would notice her? Lastly, you know that kid you called weak? They get abused at home and can't nurse themselves back to health" she finished her little rant and took a deep breath. "So, next time, think before you act and before you speak. Think first on what's going on underneath the mask the person might be wearing" she finished.

Showed how interested she really was in this conversation. She rolled her eyes and just looked away. Tears were not her thing. She didn't do tears. At all. "And I repeat, I'm. Not. A. Mind. Her dad was really nice and all, but usually he was the busy one in the family that was always gone. Ashley couldn't imagine letting anyone get away with such treachery, no matter how old they were. If they were old enough to doublecross him, they were old enough to deal with him being angry about it. But this wasn't his family. Maybe the little brother had his ways of manipulating people. Perhaps by being very cute. He didn't know. So he just let it go for now.
At the questioning of his trouble-free lifestyle, he just smiled again, opting to pretend he was too busy moving on to her other questions to bother getting into that conversation. He could end up incriminating himself accidentally, if he tried to go on about it. Somehow that kind of thing just happened at times.
"Ah, no not really. My mother was busy with lots of things, but..." he paused there, trying to come up with a way to explain it without making it sound like she didn't care or neglected him somehow. Even if that was true, it wasn't generally something one went around telling everyone. "She made time to make sure I had my lessons," he continued, nodding with approval at his own choice of words. "What do your parents do?" Since they were talking about being busy and everything, it seemed like a good question. Quote:

"Do you live with your father, then?" And suddenly he'd come up with another question.

"It was kind of weird though...I mean...think of how many heads that hat has been on over the years." Eris glanced over at the ragged hat with some interest, perched on the stool looking like it would fall apart at any given moment.

After she swallowed the delicious food, she answered Yes, this would be my second year here and I can't wait for classes to start. Why thank you for thinking it's a cool name. I kinda like it myself. Someone in my family was named Lysandra and I guess my mom thought it would be a good name for me. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's too long she laughed. Well, hope you have an awesome first year. And you're right. This would be my second year here. My first year was kinda weird, kinda wicked, but I liked it. Can't wait for this year to actually start! Lysandra was starting to feel so much better after getting some food in her stomach. Lana noticed that the other girl on the other side of Lysandra was Sarah. The girl that she met on the train and who she first sat next to. She smiled at her. She asked both girls, "So what do you guys think of the food?" as she put another spoonful of food in her mouth. "Not too bad?"
She directed to Lysandra, "Cool, your second year?" she grinned. "Any tips for me and Sarah?" she laughed.

"Are you really going to cuff a Hufflepuff student?" she asked. Heheh. Tori giggled a little as she couldn't help but overhear Harlow spreading her rumor indeed. Excellent. "We'd better," Tori murmured, glancing at her own chalice with a wrinkled nose. "Because mine sure doesn't look spotless. Do you know the cleaning spell?"
Hmm. Maybe there was a Hufflepuff... or a Gryffindor, even, who did. "Perhaps." Tori scooted back from the bench and extracted her legs, standing up slowly. "I'll be right back, Harlow. Watch my silverware, will ya?" She patted the other girl on the head and straightened her skirt, heading not for the Hufflepuff table but rather for the Gryffindor one.
She'd thought she'd seen Paulie sitting here!

"What do your parents do?" Since they were talking about being busy and everything, it seemed like a good question. Eris wondered why her own mother didn't get involved in clubs and parties, with more enthusiasm as Ash's seemed to. Isadora Ashwin was a highly disagreeable woman with an opinion always cocked at the ready, going to parties her husband brought her to only for the need of presenting herself.
The boyish little witch was highly interested till Ashley turned the focus back to her own family. Eris could talk all day about her boring life, but she wanted to know so much more about her fellow housemates.
She conceded of course, "My parents? Well....my mum is a house wife..." she started, almost about to laugh at the thought of her mother attempting to hold a job.... especially one like at Ollivanders, quickly brushing it off her mind before she really did let out a giggle or two.
"My dad works for the Ministry...but he also has a job with a mixture of wizards and muggles in London." Eris added with a bit of excitement voiced through her, as she had never met a muggle but would now and then hear the most interesting things on them when eavesdropping. "You know portraits? Well they have little still versions of them, muggles do, and they seem to enjoy my dad posing in random positions in these thin little books" Eris added giving a full tooth chuckle this time, unsure really how to explain the strange oddities that she found on accident.
"How about yours?" Eris asked with more interest showing in her blue-grey eyes, enjoying the topic pointing more in his direction.

Sorting took forever, but he was finally here; A Slytherin.
Admiring the room, Melchior made his way to the table of silver and green. The table was so long and crowded with students; ages ranging from twelve to eighteen. Not only students were at the tables, but also a massive amount of food. He had never scene this much food in one area!
Looking around, he took a seat next to a tall blonde girl. He examined the table, noting the silverware.
“ Excuse me,” Melchior said to the hazel eyed blonde. “ Are there any more utensils, possibly more…umm… immaculate?”

Oh and then he threatened them AGAIN by telling them they'd be sorry if they told anyone about what had just happened.
Gaaah he was such a friendly guy.
At least his hair had turned out perfect today. That was the one brilliant part of his day. That and not having to see ugly Vashiti's face or that freakish Brooke girl who was now his best friend. Fake best friend OF COURSE.
The food here wasn't that vomit-worthy to his amazement. Geez, the house elves working here made it good. Hah, even at Hogwarts house elves were serving him. He appreciated being placed in Slytherin, even though some of the younger kid's sitting at this table looked like they did NOT belong here. Way too spazzy.
He glanced down at his watch. When was this dinner over? After awhile, Vashti had wandered away from the Ravenclaw table, intending to go over to the Hufflepuffs and find Anakin since she hadn't seen him on the train. However, as she was getting ready to pass the table of the snakes, she frowned as she caught sight of a familiar but unpleasant face. Aw Merlin, not him. She'd been hoping that he'd changed his mind about coming to Hogwarts since she was fortunate enough not to see him on the Hogwarts Express. But clearly her hopes were in vain - except in the area of houses. She was at least fortunate enough to not have him in the same house as her. The common room would still be Fullmer-free
She might've kept on going and just ignored him, but he was sitting mere feet away, and she just couldn't resist making at least a brief comment. Annoying him was always rather fun anyway. "So you really did come," she said, arms crossed as she stood in front of the spot he was facing. At least there was a table between them.

Nikolas looked away and saw the staff table, there were so many teachers he had to meet. Not to forget how many homeworks everyone will leave. At the thought of it he frowned, but then looked back at Jade and she was taking out something from her bag. She took out three pieces of paper. What was that? and then she told him. Selena caught it, and sighed. Stupid pygmy puff, she would have to spend this term training it and not studying. Then again since when was she studying? That concept was foreign to her. "I don't know, you have to ask Kent," Selena said as she placed him back on her head. She adjusted him and beamed. "Deal, I beeetttttt... my dirty silverware and a big colorful lolli-," and just as she was about to finish her sentence, the pygmy puff fell on her plate. "That didn't count, right?" she asked hopefully. Kent wasn't ready for it anyways, so that shouldn't count a bit. Yeah.
Why was he laughing at her? Hmph, some people did not appreciate the truth. "I know so, and I'm going to have a castle made out of candy," Selena added beaming. And vacations would be to the moon. "Can I call you Nik? Oooorrrrr... Niksters?" Selena asked excitedly. She laiked nicknames, they were easier. She then frowned at his statement that he was awesome and folded her arms across her chest. "Well then, fine, but you can't be as awesome as me," she decided. Because no one was as awesome as her... except for Emma and Diggy and Maddie, but they didn't count. So, the house elves didn't like her? "Okay so it's your fault that we have dirty silverware" he replied "Thank you very much " he teased. He didn't thought that was the main reason, and of course she didn't think that either. Right? Maybe not. Her eyes widened at the comment of her not liking sugar. Haven't she noticed the sarcasm? It was pretty obvious, but then she realized he didn't mean it. "Just a bit" he chuckled "I think I'll call you candy hater" he told her "And yes, it was sarcastic" he said, just to make sure she didn't thought he mean it....again.
Maybe she was the most hyper girl he has met until now. Because, she was always talking about sugar and more sugar and excited about everything and nothing. And for her pygmy puff...which was good at nothing, he had nothing to say about it. Maybe because it reminded him of his sister's puff and how annoying it was sometimes. Kent did seemed very squishable, however it wasn't that smart, he always fell down and will keep doing it. Now, Nikolas had to ask a fluffy ball to forgive him, nice. "Kent..." he started "Will you forgive me?" he asked. So, it was officially a bet. This was easy because it was obvious Kent wouldn't manage to keep on her head for long. And as he had thought it, the pygmy puff fell down, he eyed her "Okay, right now it was just a practice" he said, just for this time he would let it happen "But from now on, let's see if Kent can stay there" and yes, she can already give him her betting because he will win.
Ohh Merlin...this girl really was something unique. "I hope your castle doesn't melt when we have a hot weather" he chuckled. Niksters? No. It sounded like Snickers. "I think I'll stay with Nik" he nodded, short and nice nickname. Noo lady, this boy in front of you was awesome....maybe better than you. "Oh no, never like you" he shook his head "Because I am more awesome" he winked. Oh yes, he was.

We're supposed to all be great at potions but alas, I'm not the typical Slytherin." He grinned ever so slightly at that thought since it was amusing in quite a few ways, but maybe working with someone else who was in the same spot as him when it came to potions then it could possibly be an advantage to him.
"I still can't cast a proper patronus myself, I did learn how to last year since all fifth years learn that in Defense Against the Dark Arts but it appears my concentration isn't as good as it should be when it comes to that. But nothing a little more practice can't fix this term, whenever I have a free moment.. that's exactly what I'll be doing." For some reason though, he did find that rather annoying; it wasn't something that seemed all that difficult though for him it was. "I'm much better at Muggle Studies and Care of Magical Creatures, I did get an Outstanding on my Muggle Studies OWL which wasn't what I was expecting but it was good. And I love animals really of all kinds, I worked in an animal shelter part time over the summer helping take care of dogs, cats and birds. Pretty much muggle creatures." Even though he had an owl and a dog, that didn't mean that he preferred muggle creatures over wizarding creatures.
"Well most people aren't so quick to pick that lesson up which honestly is a bad thing since, well.. I think you could get the idea there." There wasn't much more that needed to be said about Professor Lafay since it was obvious that you didn't want to not be scared of her. India nodded, yeah it was nice to actually listen to what Matt had to say as well rather than to talk like a rambling idiot. Which she had done a bit. But, he did ask what had happened with the darn school.
"Sounds like a good idea - and if you want a study partner I'll be willing to take on that burden...not that it would even be a burden." She couldn't help bur blush when she had said that - yes she'd messed that up. Like when she fudged up her homework at her old school with actual fudge. "And if you ever need me to shut it - just tell me...you can even say ' India Collette Johanson shut your ruddy mouth' or anything like that!" She flashed a quick smile. Yes she was being truthful. Sometimes she yabbered on like a darn bird with its constant polly want a crackers - or incescent tweeting.
When he said it was concentration that was the problem with the whole full patronus thing - she couldn't help but smile to herself. Concentration - and iritation with others...well other more iritating people with nazal voices that she no longer went to school with. Thank the gods.
"Mmm its the same with me - for the whole 'patronus' thing...plus the instructor had this voice that drove me mental!" She admitted with a quick smile.

"What..?" Oh no. No way was this getting turned back on him that fast. Not when Ash was still trying to figure out exactly what in the world she had just described. He could imagine still portraits. He even had some, although it wasn't because they couldn't move, but because he had stood completely still while they were taken. You could still see the slight motions of his breathing, and a blink or two, but he imagined that whatever she was describing was something like that. That wasn't confusing.
"In thin little books? Of portraits??" He couldn't help but make a face, his nose scrunching a bit, bright blue eyes closed tightly for a brief moment. "Why would they do that? And... What?" That second 'what' coming suddenly as he realized he still had no idea what any of that meant.

Nimma appeared in the great hall with an almighty POP! Rushing at the Slytherin table and cowering as she hot footed it over, she furiously began gathering all the silverware, in armfuls overflowing from her scrawny limbs.
"Oh so sorry! So sorry, studentsies! Nimma is so sorry! Nimma did not know! Nimma tried hard!" She managed to extract a tarnished fork and poke herself with it in punishment, even as she scooped up more and left a trail clattering behind her.
With a flurry of house elf magic, the silverware she sported was soon clean and as shiny as it should have been. She poked herself with another fork and soon there was a trail of forks and spoons and knives floating through the air, disappearing and reappearing, clean and polished as was right.
The whole process took only minutes and by the end of it Nimma stood on the end of the table closest to the staff, panting and holding a fork, ready to poke herself in the eye.
"So sorry! Nimma is a bad elf! Nimma punishes Nimma!"

"Oh no, never like you" he shook his head "Because I am more awesome" he winked. Oh yes, he was. Selena pouted and sighed. "It's not entirely my fault. Maybe they don't like you either, do you ever tell them thank you for your food?" she pointed out. Because then it was probably his fault, instead of hers. Selena didn't like getting people mad... but house elves were people... so maybe she liked making them mad... naaahhh. The house elves were nice. "NOOO. I don't wanna be called Selena... or Sel... BUT you can't call me ShortPerson," Selena said. And if he called her candy hater, she would call him people hater. Because anyone who called someone else a candy hater was obviously a people hater. And once again, he was being sarcastic. "I ... knew that... I was just testing you," Selena declared. Because she wasn't stupid or slow. She was just... trying to catch up. Yup.
She looked at the purple pygmy puff then looked at Nik. "I think he forgives you," Selena said, nodding. Probably, since all Kent had done was shiver slightly. She pet the puff ball slightly and looked back at him, with wide eyes. "I'm so going to win, Selena Zabini-Riddle never loses! Unless it has to do with water or a broom, then maybe," she said as she placed Kent on her head. And held him there. Because he never said how he had to stay up on her head. He just said that Kent had to stay there. If Selena held him in place on her head, then technically, he was staying on her head. So... ha. "It's going to be on Pluto," Selena sighed. Gosh, where was he from. She wasn't stupid. The best place was going to be on Pluto, it was cold there. "My chocolate castle is going to be in the Arctic where Santa Claus is, but I'll have to put up a fence or else the elves there might eat my castle," Selena added. And she didn't want that happening. She also didn't want Santa Claus eating her castle. She was going to need a big fence.
Selena frowned, hands still holding Kent in place. "You're silly, I am definitely more awesome, as a matter of fact, I'm the awesomest person ever known to anyone and in all the universes and time and space and everything," Selena said, trying to top his statement. Which was, clearly, easy to do since she was awesome.
. . . "Did I win the bet yet?" Selena asked, her hands still holding Kent in place.

Quietly she reached her hand over - in hopes of sneaking that pesky fork out of her hand. "Please don't hurt yourself - it was a mistake love, you didn't mean to, we all love you." She was being overly nice.
Maybe some people didn't but she sure did. And maybe one or more nice person was enough. "Please don't punish yourself - punish the tarnish by telling it to simply go away, alright? You don't deserve it." No one does.

Kennedy had to rub his eyes several times. Was that an elf? He was frozen in the spot as it began gathering forks....and then began poking itself.
Someone STOP it!
What if he stab itself real deep and got tetanus or something. Did they have their vaccinations in order? That thought was left for later when the elf was about to poke itself in the eye. "No!" he gasped and he approached it slowly. "It's okay...just hand that over...please." And please don't attack him.

"So sorry! Nimma is a bad elf! Nimma punishes Nimma!" Marilyn watched with wide eyes as the tiny elf darted up and down Slytherin table, handling the silverware. Within minutes, everything was cleaned and spotless, as it should have been.
Sniffing carefully, the blonde gave a huge sigh of relief. The smell...was gone. Thank MERLIN! She eyed the smaller students around her, all looking confused at the elf.
She just hoped this meant their rooms were clean, as well...

"Young Mister wants fork?" The little elf stopped flailing and eeped. "Nimma did not know fork was Young Misterses!" Nimma shined the fork again, using the corner of her pillow case and then she thrust it at the boy.
Presenting it to him.
She eeeeeeped more, all nerves.

When she corrected herself after mentioning the idea that being his study partner could have been a burden, Matt wasn't quite sure how to react; that reflected by his rather blank facial expression. Well how would you take a comment like that? "A burden huh? Personally I think we could both benefit from an idea like that, I'm much smarter than I may look since most people know me as the guy from California who surfs. That may very well be true, but alas there is quite more to me than that." It seemed like that was the common way that most people had recognized him which after a few terms of being at the school became rather annoying, stereotypes honestly were something that he hated almost as much as being compared to Raven just because he was related to her. "Well I'll keep that in mind, though I would say it a bit more politely since there are much better ways of saying rather than being completely rude." He always seemed to arrange his words carefully in order to now cause drama since that was the last thing that he wanted to have happen.
"Well, it seems like we have something that we could both work on this term. Even though that could get pretty frustrating after awhile since you really should have enough quiet to be able to think properly in order to cast the patronus." Well it wasn't so much that he was thinking that working on a patronus with Dia was a bad idea by any means, he just figured that it was probably better to practice the spell by himself so that he could finally get it even if it happened to be a term late.
