| | Slytherin House Table Eat, drink, and be merry, O Snakes. Classes begin again tomorrow.
The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear. And what's this? The silverware is tarnished and askew, almost as if thrust on the table willy-nilly. Take a seat and search for a clean spoon while the Sorting Hat ceremony commences. The House Elves have done their clean up work quickly and effectively, and the silverware and dishes are now set to right. |

Though she couldn't help but think her mother named her such for that very purpose.
"What have I done?" Well this was certainly another matter to ponder over. She's picked up a snake....and got bitten, went into the men's restroom...but they believed her so it was rather anticlimactic. Many things over many years to say the least.
"Erm....as long as it isn't completely immoral...though these 'dares' really just started out as me amusing my kid brother, he'd ask me to do random things....like pick up a spider or hide my mum's wand."
Eris felt a bit strange as she realized this explanation. Being a home schooled pureblood and first of sibilings to go to Hogwarts, there wasn't exactly many people you could play with the first eleven years of your life. He couldn't argue that Ash was a cool nickname. There was a reason that most of the time that was how he introduced himself, after all. It had switched up a lot recently, though. Perhaps it was because he'd realized he didn't really care either way what people called him. Or maybe it was just because his whole name had just been said in front of the entire school, so wouldn't matter now anyway. Of course, the fact that he still had to introduce himself to people did mean that they hadn't heard, or if they had, they didn't think on it long enough to remember that it was him, which meant that he could tell people his name was Bubble Honeypots if he wanted to, and no one would be any wiser. Hm. It was something to think about.
Later, though. Right now he was talking, and not messing it up as badly as he had been doing all day. He decided it was best to focus on keeping that up instead of letting his mind wander off on random subjects.
"You could just make something up if you wanted to," he did mention. "I mean, lots of people have nicknames that don't have anything to do with their names. My mother knows someone called Sugar, but her real name is Chloe." He had always wondered about that, but not quite enough to care to ask. He didn't like Sugar much. She always pinched his cheeks and sent him off to play, like he was five.
"Anyway, you really hid your mother's wand?" There wasn't anything strange that he'd noticed. He'd had friends just because his parents' friends had children they would bring over, but if he'd had any siblings, he could imagine he might have played with them as well. More interesting about this tale was the subject about which he'd asked. That would have been yet another thing to set a heart attack off in his mother. "What did she do? Mine might have tossed me out right away," he said with a small laugh. Quote:

Ashley asked, surprised by that. Even his mother had accompanied him everywhere, as unpleasant as she'd made the trip. Hopefully he'd been able to hide the surprise he'd had at the mention that her mother was a muggle. Did he even know any muggles? He was sure he didn't. This was going to be interesting. "You'd think she would be excited to hear something like that. What did she say?"

Eris and Vidar shrugged it off as they played, but at Hogwarts the words seemed more prominent than what Eris thought them to be.
But she wasn't going to get into the story of her crazy, erm, determined mother with kids she just met. Special and intelligent?
That sounded nice, her father was in Ravenclaw and said they were intelligent...but then again he thought they were the best no matter what.
"I would like to borrow it if you don't mind...", Merlin be a muggle if she wasn't going to formulate some opinions and knowledge for herself on the houses. "Ashwin? Hmmm... I don't know." Audrey's mother and father talked so much about relatives she didn't know or couldn't remember. It was confusing sometimes.
"I'll give it to you later." Quote:

It was a miracle she was so skinny.
Eurgh, she didn't need to be worrying about cleanliness... especially with the experiments she was planning... if there was even one rogue speck of dust it could contaminate a potion... She made a note to brush up on her cleaning charms. "I just hope he gets it sorted out." she said, scowlng ever-so-slightly. She's right. He does need to eat at least something... whatever it may be. It's just that "I'm not hungry" he said. True, he's just doesn't want to eat. He's not on a special diet or anything, it's just that he just doesn't have that much appetite right now.
Jonathan laughed when she mentioned she couldn't stop. "Growing girls shouldn't stop" he explained. It's nice how some people do admit they could never stop eating. Jonathan loves to eat that weird dessert combination, chocolate cake and pumpkin juice. Not the best combination but then again, he couldn't stop eating them.
But maybe right now, eating his favorite dessert at Hogwarts is not the best idea.
Jonathan nodded at her "Yeah, he seemed......... stressed?" in a way he does. Jonathan didn't hear about the house elves thing but he did read about the headmaster having some trouble in the Daily Prophet. Quote:

"I don-" Eris furred her eyebrows as yet another problem arose in her mind, "Wait...don't the elves like working?" she added slowly.
Sure she treated her house elves at home very, very well; but she had thought it to be impossible of a house-elf to rebel.
What had Hogwarts, or rather what could Hogwarts have possibly done to make them rebel? O_e
"Ah, your welcome" Eris beamed a shameless toothy grin. "I'm Eris by the way!" the boyish-looking witch added, childishly forgetting to add her last name.
No one knows what happened to the house elves that made them rebel over Hogwarts. Jonathan has been asking people already and no one really seems to know about it. Maybe he could ask Lafay about it? But then again, it's Lafay. She may answer questions but she doesn't like questions involoving something........... scandalous, perhaps.
Jonathan smiled as she introduced her name. "Jonathan, fifth" he introduced himself as well. Jonathan did saw her at the sorting "Welcome to Slytherin" best house ever, well, he wanted to add that but nevermind. Heehee. "Hope you'll feel comfortable around here." he told her.
It's not that hard too, Lafay usually give out partners to those first years and transferred students to make them more familiarized in school. Well, that's what she did last term.

When Lana complemented her on her name, her smile grew more. She hasn't smiled this much since the last school year. She put a forkful of grilled chicken in her mouth. After she swallowed the delicious food, she answered Yes, this would be my second year here and I can't wait for classes to start. Quote:

I kinda like it myself. Someone in my family was named Lysandra and I guess my mom thought it would be a good name for me. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's too long she laughed. Well, hope you have an awesome first year. And you're right. This would be my second year here. My first year was kinda weird, kinda wicked, but I liked it. Elves not wanting to clean? "Are you kidding? House Elves love to clean!" Everyone knows that... She knew that people had campaigned for House Elf Rights but there was no support from the house elves themselves... They just didn't want it. "I guess Tate can sort it out, I mean, he's kind of their master I suppose..." "That's because it is interested! It's like, the best subject here!" she said, her eyes twinkling as they always did when she was talking about something she loved. Awww, he was blushing! How cuuuute. "Though I'm hoping DADA is going to be good this year too!" she added. "Oh, and Herbology. Herbology is great." she said quickly. After all, you can't have a potion without ingredients! "Yes! Her!" Woo! Thank goodness she knew the name. Kennedy could have made a fool of himself if he had to pronounce it. "Are you guys close friends?" he asked out of curiosity.
Kennedy shrugged. "How am I supposed to know. I just got here three months ago," he slightly grinned. He thought about it though. How can someone, or something in this case, love to clean? He knew how it was to be on that side and he certainly did NOT like it. "Their master?" he said, raising an eyebrow.
He slightly smiled at her enthusiasm while trying to control his cheeks. They never listened. Hmm, he was going to have to look for a potion that repressed blushing. M'hm. "I have a feeling I'm going to be horrible at Herbology," he grumbled. He had no clue about plants.

Alice Walker sat down at her house table. She couldn't wipe that grin off her face. She was a Slytherin.
She glanced around the table. Her eye caught a few cute guys, a couple of girls who seemed interesting. She figured she'd wait for someone to approach her. She didn't feel as though approaching a random Slytherin in hopes of a new friend would end well.

Taking out a jagged dark wooded wand from her cloak, Eris fingered a silver...or was it platinum...ring at the handle.
She showed the ring to Audrey by turning the wand's grip to face her. "Have you seen that coat of arms before?" Eris asked curiously. It was a blue green and grey gem stone, the colors of it seemeing to move like clouds or mist between each other under a symbol of a drop that was ornated by a gleaming and archaic looking "S". It was sort of long, though, and her actual name was much shorter, so people probably wouldn't go for it, he thought. His mind was in its own little world again, and he needed to stop doing that. He forced himself to focus, just in time to catch the whole story on what had happened with the wand-hiding and everything.
He couldn't help but smile as he imagined all of the shrieking and picturing lots of rushing around, peeking into cabinets and under beds and inside dressers, etc... It's what he might have done, he figured, although he intended to never lose his wand, if he had to sew it to his hand.
"Were you angry with your brother? How could he ask you to do something, then tattle? It's like he set you up!" His eyebrows raised as he realized that, suddenly feeling like perhaps he'd gotten out of a lifetime of trouble by being an only child.
"My mother..." A pause found itself hanging out there, as he tried to think of how he would describe her. Not exactly strict, but not too loose with the rules, either. Basically, if he stayed out of her way and out of trouble, she didn't care what he did. When he did get into trouble. she always called on his father to deal with it while she stood by and looked disappointed. "She's too busy to be too strict, I think. She's got lots of clubs and parties to deal with. Besides, I'm a perfect child. Never got into any trouble," he said with a grin, even though it was a huge lie.

"Well, I guess so," she replied. "It's Hogwarts; I don't think they make any bad tasting food here."
Katrina instantly agreed with what she said. The chicken in here didn't taste bad. And their rice. Merlin did they cook them so beautifully.

Her mother had never thought Maddy was quite normal ever since the time she made her bike fly. "Plus if muggles went into Diagon Ally would they even be able to see anything? Cause when they go by the leaky cauldren, they don't even see it!"

While waving and hoping Katrina might see her, her gaze fell onto the dining table itself. "What the..", her words trailed away as she discovered Hogwarts had an interesting method of kicking off their first meal of the semester. Something distracted Katrina while she was eating. Someone was waving at her. Katrina turned her back and it was Michelle. But then she started to look, well, hungry.
Katrina thought it was funny to try to wave at someone then ending up eating instead.
" You really should eat now, Michelle," Katrina said loudly so her friend could hear through the loud talking. " You look hungry." Quote:

Cause when they go by the leaky cauldren, they don't even see it!" Right. He hadn't thought of that. Mostly because Ash still wasn't really processing the whole idea yet. That, and he just didn't think about muggles that much. He'd never had to, so he'd really never had the concern about what they could or couldn't see. Maybe one day he would have questioned it, but until now, the notion had never entered his mind.
So he shrugged, sitting back a little so that he could rest his elbow on the table in order to prop up his head on his hand.
"I don't know. I guess that's a good point. I've never thought about it. I don't know that much about muggles," he admitted, rather than keeping the thoughts all to himself. He didn't see a problem with admitting something like that. It wouldn't make him seem stupid, would it? Why would it?
"So why would you write to her about your owl? If you know she won't like it?" he asked. It seemed like a different kind of situation from the one that would happen if he told his mother he was in another house. That would be a funny prank. This girl sounded like her mother would actually be upset. Then he remembered something, very random, in the middle of a conversation. "Oh, what's your name, by the way? I'm Ashley."

"Theyre really not that much different from us, besides the fact that they cant do magic and they never put down their cell phones! My brother's one two". Since Maddy visited her mom's house every other weekend, she knew quite a bit about the muggle world, although prefering the advantages of magic. " Why aren't your grandparents the nicest of people?" Maddy asked, she loved to gossip.
As she was talking, Maddy finally found a cleanish set of cutlery. "I think they need new house elves" She stated after examining a grimy looking knife.

Eris let out in a bit of thought forgetting her manners in polite speech. "He was only three...and my only playmate at the time...I guess that's why I let him get away with it so easily."
Eris had never really though about that, looking back, she couldn't remember being actually angry at her little brother...just a small shake of a head silly you kind of reaction.
"I got to be the big sister of the house" Eris beamed as though this was honorable beyond words, though she was incredibly tiny herself to be speaking such things.
Eris listened to him talk about his own mother, " Never got into trouble, aye?" She found this a bit hard to believe, but hey, she had nothing support doubt.
"If your mom was always busy, then did your dad school you?" She added curiously...hoping she wasn't asking to much about his family. Her dad was really nice and all, but usually he was the busy one in the family that was always gone. Quote:

"Agreed" she beamed, making a mental note to put this in her letter tonight when she owled her mother.
"So...are we just gonna go to bed hungry?" Eris brought up poking at the moldy bread.
She could technically eat it, but was it really worth it? Then again...what if the food would always be like that.

As she was talking, Maddy finally found a cleanish set of cutlery. "I think they need new house elves" She stated after examining a grimy looking knife. Eris blinked for a moment at the word cell phone.
She almost raised her hand for a moment like a young school-child, "Erm.....what is a 'Selfone'?" the young witch asked rather curiously, also wondering why an object was so important to keep consistently elevated.
Eris gave a laugh when the mentioning of her grandparents was brought up. "Well...I really shouldn't be saying this...." Eris giggled childishly and talking about her family behind their back. "My grandmother is the most cynical lady one the planet...walking and talking like there is a stick shoved up her but all the time...for good reason too...she married a guy who was practically twice her age." Eris had nothing against her grandpa really, but it didn't take more than a second of speculation to know they were not married for love. "My Grandpa is lazy and doesn't care much about anything in old age....I don't think he can even use magic anymore...." the man was rolling in Galleons, yet she had never seen him pick up a wand.
"Yeah..." Eris conceded. "I'm going to ask my mum for some silverware....not sure how she'll react to that request though" the witch added with a chuckle.
