| | Potions Laboratory The Potions Laboratory Sixteen tables are set up with two stands and burners that adjust to fit your cauldron no matter what size it may be. This is where students can practice brewing any potions they may wish to brew. Along the walls are shelves with every piece of equipment a potioneer would want, flasks, funnels, phials, stirring rods, etc... A closet nearby was filled with many items that students may find useful, extra cauldrons, extra textbooks, extra dragon hide gloves, protective goggles and protective coverobes.
On the board at the front of the room is written in white chalk:
Rules: - Clean up your own mess. I am your professor, not your mother.
- Be safe. I don't want to have to explain why there is a stirrer lodged in your eye when we have plenty of protective goggles to go around. If you do not know what you are doing, stop and check your work. Please refrain from causing any explosions or fires. As I already said, I am not your mother, I will not clean up after you.
- Be sure you succeed in your potion making. If you waste my ingredients I will charge your parents for them.
- Do NOT, under any circumstance, test your potions on school mates... no matter which house they are from!
- Do not bother me. I am a busy professor, I will come to you if I think you are experiencing problems.
ooc: THIS IS NOT A CLASS. This thread is just for roleplaying and having fun. It will remain open all term long. Please remember that even though Professor Lafay is not a very nice person, I am. Feel free to PM me with any questions and any problems that you may have. As my predecessor did, if your character is addressing the professor in this lab, please put PROFESSOR LAFAY in the subject line of your post. This will facilitate my response to you. |

Okay, so, Aurora was excited about potions all the time and needed something to tide her over until the first lesson. She had looked through the past recipes and decided to try her hand at a wit sharpening potion. She didn't intend to use it for anything in particular. Besides, it was probably against the rules anyway. Aurora placed her cauldron on a stand and took out her wand, pointing it at her work area and muttering "Scourgify, Turgeo" to make sure it was all clean. Then she put on her gloves and went to retrieve ingredients. She already had ginger root, fluxweed and scarab beetle in her own ingredients but would need to get the Armadillo bile from the storeroom.
She returned with the correct ingredients, measured out the right amount of bile and set up her scales. Before she began to weigh anything she poured the armadillo bile into her cauldron and, with her wand, lit a fire underneath it so that it could come to a boil whilst she measured out everything else.
Carefully she measured out exactly eight grams of fluxweed and placed it on a dish, ready to go into the potion. Then she peeled and finely chopped two and a half grams of ginger root, putting them on another dish. She glanced down at her cauldron and saw that it was beginning to boil. Aurora prodded at the fire, making it a little hotter, until the potion was at a roaring boil, then she took a stirrer and dropped in the fluxweed before stirring it five times clockwise. When this was done she removed the stirrer and went back to measuring out her scarab beetle. She ground a couple into a powder and weighed them, nope, not quite five grams yet. She stirred the potion. Adding one more ground beetle she looked at the scales. Yep, that looked right. Five grams. Brilliant! Now to let the potion boil before she added the ginger... She flicked through her potions book as she waited, stirring the mixture every now'n'again.
After ten minutes she picked up the dish with the ginger on it and tipped it into her cauldron, checking that there was nothing left on the dish - she didn't go through all that careful weighing out for her potion to be spoiled by a stubborn bit of ginger refusing to go in. When the ginger was in she pointed her wand at the fire again, carefully bringing down the heat until the potion was at a simmer. Right, thirty minutes.
Aurora stood up and pointed her wand at the empty dish and the scales, muttering a couple of cleaning spells and replacing them to their storage. It's always good to clean up as you go along. Now that only the two full bowls and the gently simmering cauldron remained all there was to do was wait. Again Aurora flicked through her potions book... Ooh! Tickling Tincture? She would have to try that... and that cure for the love potion! She'd probably need that when Louisa used that potion she had given her... Thirty minutes...
She stirred the potion anti-clockwise three times.
Tick tock tick tock...
Anti-clockwise three times...
Tick tock tick tock...
Anti-clockwise three times...
Tick tock tick tock...
Anti-clockwise three times...
Tick tock tick tock...
After the full time had elapsed, Aurora picked up the dish with the scarab beetles in and sprinkled them into the potion, putting the lid on.
Right... now she had to wait another three quarters of an hour... She cleaned the dish she had used for the scarab beetles and put it back into the store cupboard, then she went to fetch some phials to decant the mixture in when it was finished. She labeled each of them:
And now to wait... She suddenly had a thought, she turned to Professor Lafay. "Excuse me Professor," she said, "When I'm finished with this must I give it to you or can I keep it?" she asked. Because she knew that if it went wrong it could go terribly wrong... but everything seemed to be going alright so far...

Nessie walked into the Potions lab with her items in hand and set the items down next to the cauldron. She sighed and looked at the hand copied directions and read her first direction. Place moonstone in cauldron and add water She did as te directions said. When the water was in she looked at the moonstone at the bottom. She noted that the water which was moving slightly, contorted the stone. She looked at the next direction. Boil water for five min. She lit the cauldron and waited patiently. When she saw that the water was sufficiently boiling she added the belladonna and the nettles and let it boil for five minutes. While she was waiting she read the next direction. Store 20 strokes clockwise, then 20 strokes counter-clockwise. When it was finished boiling she did as the directions said, carefully counting the strokes.
Reading the next direction she pulled a goblet from her bag and poured the concoction into the cup. After that she pulled her wand out and dipped the tip in.
"Coloro!" she said while thinking of the bright red that she wanted.
Feeling satisfied she cleaned up her mess that she made and left to go to the bathroom so she could use it.

Potions was one thing Beezus knows that she would like. Even if she have heard that the Potions Mistress is a complete terror to students. She doesn't care, as long as she can brew and associate herself with Potion Making then everything's gonna be fine. To start her Potioning, she went to the Potions Laboratory early one morning, eager to try something out.
Looking at the Recipe book, she chose the Magical Fireworks Potion as her starting experiment, "So, I need Water, Big handful of dried flakes of Salamander skin,One jalapeno pepper, a dash of sheep bile, three grains of salt, A tab or wick, and a Tissue paper. Seems easy enough." she muttered. She went to the Storage Room and got everything she needed, including a purple colored-tissue paper.
Without wasting anymore time, Beatrice quickly went to work. She got herself a cauldron and followed the instructions given. She first filled the cauldron with water, a little above half. Then, she found a burner so she could boil the water in the cauldron. When it came to a boil, she added the Dried Flakes of Salamander Skin which created a gentle prickling sound inside the cauldron. Leaving it at the moment, she then diced a Jalapeno pepper and added it to the Cauldron. Once again, referring to her book. She stirred the potion thirteen times, anti-clockwise. Stir. Stir. Stir. Stir. Stir. Stir. Stir. Stir. Stir. Stir. Stir. Stir. Stir. And then, the instructions said to add a dash of sheep bile which she did and when she did the potion turned oddly gray and somewhat turned into liquid concrete. Next, she added three grains of salt. Afterwards, was again to stir it four times. So she did. And it gave it a hard time since the potion was very hard. Clockwise.Stirrrrrrr. Stirrrrrrr. Stirrrrrrr. Stirrrrrrr. And now, it was all malleable. Beezus got a handful of it and started molding it into a circle which looked more like an oblong. Then, she placed the wick at one end of it. And lastly, Beezus wrapped it in the purple tissue she got !
When she was all finished, she hurriedly cleaned all the apparatus that she used. Disposed of all the unneeded ingredients and returned those which can still be used. After polishing the table she used, Beatrice approached the Professor, "Err. Professor Lafay.. Where do you think can I test this creation that I've made to see if it actually works ?" she asked reluctantly.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Adelaide Kettle First Year | Don't Cross the Book | who turned out the | Lights Lennox Jezabel set up her equipment at one of the tables. Potions shouldn't be too hard; she'd watched her parents and older siblings brew many over the years. Her brother Keegan had even let her help him a few times. But brewing potions would be harder than just flicking her wand and saying a few weird words. That's why Jez had decided to practise before her first real Potions class started.
Jez hadn't been sleeping well for the past few nights, so a basic sleeping draft would be practical. She had the basic ingredients, and now pondered over her potions book. She brought the water in her caldron to a slow boil and added lavender, being careful to stir exactly 21 times counter-clockwise. She added chamomile, and flicked through her book for 20 minutes while the potion simmered. It had turned a pale, clear purple with the faintest tint of green when it was ready. Jez bottled it and cleared up her work area, elated in the knowledge that she'd just completed her first potion.

Zhenya had her Potion's book from home. It was full of relatively simple potions, but she wanted to get her skills familiar with the lay-out of the Potions classrooms. She decided she might practice making some of her potions, so she had all of her Potions equipment with her and she set it up at a table.
What she had forgotten was a protective cover robe, so she searched through the laboratory and found one, thank gosh she thought to herself.
She flipped through her book and found the one she was looking for, a potion to perfect her plant in the Greenhouse, and to give it the most vibrant flowers it could bloom.
She went to the student supplies cupboard and pulled out a variety of ingredients she needed, but only a pinch of each. She really didn't need much of the potion, and she did not want to waste any supplies.
As she flipped through the instructions, she followed them perfectly, ticking it off in her mind as she went. It was a quick-forming potion, so she only had to wait 15 minutes for it to be ready.
It turned a magnificent shade of green, and Zhenya knew it was ready. It had worked! She was thrilled. She poured the small amount of potion into her vial and corked it, putting it in her pocket. She cleaned up all of her equipment, returning the left-over ingredients to the supplies cupboard and left.

Aurora watched people come and go then, when the forty five minutes was up, closed the book she was skimming through and lifted the lid of her cauldron. AHA! YES! It had halved in size and was purple! With her wand, Aurora put out the fire and sat back down on the bench. Yep, it's going to take a while to cool. To pass the time, she took out some parchment and a quill and began to add notes to the piece of music she'd been working on, humming in her head.

Isabelle walked into the lab excited to get to work on her bone regenerating potion. She carefully placed all of the ingredients she had gotten at a work space and retrieved a cauldron for her to use.
Carefully she added her gallon of Buffalo Milk Cottage cheese into the cauldron. Then Isabelle took her box of bran cereal and measured a half cup. Then she folded the bran cereal and 2 tbsp of salt into the cauldron using her wooden spoon as instructed.
Next she took out her knife and quickly chopped up an asphodel leaf. Then she mixed two tsps of dragon marrow into the asphodel leaf. Isabelle waited for the marrow to swell then she added this into her cauldron. Carefully she took the 4 tbsp of unicorn horn powder and a packet of Jell-O she brought from home and mixed them together. Once it was well mixed she added it in.
Isabelle's ingredients didn't seem to be melting down so she added a couple drops of water. Then the ingredients melted down. She took the newt and freshly cut its tail off, then dropping it in the cauldron. With her knife she crushed 2 sopophourus bean then sprinkled them in on top. Finally she took her liquid marshmallow and squeezed it five times on top of the mixture.
Next step, wait 20 minutes to let it simmer. While she was waiting Isabelle quickly picked up all of her leftover ingredients and supplies she used. Putting it all away so she wouldn't get in trouble. Finally before her wait she took a flask and labeled it with her name, grade, and house.

Elizabeth walked into the potions lab and looked around. She just thought to herself Wow...lame. It was probably a lot better when Snape was here. (Ya thats right she knows about Snape.) Professor Snape had taught her great great great grandparents long ago. They always told her about him. He sounded like a good guy to her because of all those stories.
She walked over to one of the lab tables and starts to think What can I use to blow something...or someone up....just kidding...maybe. She laughs to herself with an evil looking smile.

Well... at least she got to brew it. She'd only wanted to try it out anyway. She held her hand above the mixture... it seemed cool, there was no heat coming off her cauldron anymore. She picked up the ladle she had set aside and began to ladle it all into the phials. Yep, it looked good, dark purple, thick consistency... perfect. When each of the phials were full, she pointed her wand at the top and sealed them. The sealing charm was something she had practiced a lot for this very purpose. Brilliant! So, it was finished. She set the phials at the front of her desk and used her wand to clean everything... very thoroughly! Even one trace of her ingredients could ruin another person's potion. Then she stood up, collecting the phials and taking them to the front of the room where she placed them on Professor Lafay's desk. Each one was labeled:
Wit-Sharpening Potion
Made by Aurora Stewart-Quinn
When she'd handed the phials over she went back to her work station and began to tidy up, putting all the clean equipment away, closing her potions book and putting her music and quill back into her bag.

"Yeah, that would be scary, because I'm afraid of blood...Now, I need of a potion that could do something good...Maybe something to do with wounds...Healing or something..."
Violet started brainstorming to invent a potion that will do something or even anything useful. This would suck my brains out of my head... |

When she'd handed the phials over she went back to her work station and began to tidy up, putting all the clean equipment away, closing her potions book and putting her music and quill back into her bag. She took the potion and filed it in a drawer. Quote:

Violet started brainstorming to invent a potion that will do something or even anything useful. This would suck my brains out of my head... Nessie thought quietly for a moment. Suddenly she thought of a somewhat perfect potion for Violet. "What about a Burn-Healing Paste?" Nessie suggested thoughtfully.

That was like maybe the third time she had asked that question. Beatrice really wanted to try them now.

Beverly entered the lab with all her ingredients and book. Some are making there potion so she tried to make a burn-healing paste very helpful for accidental burns and magicleanse to clean clothes and object especially when they are stained, classes are very messy you know. These two potions will be very useful to her. So she is excited and hoping she can do it without much mistakes, she don't want wasting her ingredients...

Danielle entered the laboratory, she had never been so early to any other class, but this was different. This was going to be her first potions class and she had been waiting for it. She walked with all her material to a table, when she toom a sit she noticed someone was already sitting there. When Danielle saw jez her eyes sparkled, she was happy to see a familiar face, even if they only talked once during the first day. "Hi jez, its nice to see you again, i haven't seen you since the first day." |

What if the potion went wrong and won't perfectly be tested ? "Errr..." she started, but stopped. She was forgetting that she was with a Professor. A Professor. Surely, nothing can go wrong with her around. "Okay Professor." she muttered.
Carrying the oblong-shaped firework in her hand, the young Ravenclaw moved slowly towards the corner. Hoping that the experiment wouldn't go mad or anything. She gently stroked the wick then placed on the floor.
Time for some show ! She pulled out her wand, "Incendio." she muttered under her breath as she pointed her wand at the direction of the wick. Almost immediately the wick was caught in flame. The fire traveled all the way from the tip of the wick until it reached the....
BOOM !
Beatrice looked up and saw blue and red fireworks exploding merrily at the ceiling. It followed the usual firework pattern movement. The circular one. It looked so wonderful there. It made the Potions Laboratory more illuminated.
She faced Professor Lafay, "Excuses Professor. But is there any way I can make the Fireworks follow a pattern movement that I like ?" she asked. She was just wondering for even though she considers it an achievement. She wanted to learn more.
