As you enter the Muggle Studies classroom, you are instantly reminded, or introduced, to the fact that Professor Cerulean always tries to transform her class to match the lesson of the day.
The room is covered in large multicolored Muggle bean bags scattered all over the floor. These bean bags have been charmed with extra cushioning charm to make them even more comfortable. Beside each bean bag is a little lap desk for you to place in your lap and use for notes during the class. The floor feels extra cushiony as well although it seems to be the normal tile floor of all of the classrooms.
The walls and ceiling are draped with different bright colors of drapes. It's a little overwhelming but enchanting at the same time.
In the corner, there is a table of refreshments (something the Professor always tries to have at her lessons.). But this time the table is full of Muggle treats. There is a bowl of ice filled with various Muggle sodas from Cokes to Cherry Cokes to Dr. Peppers to Sprite, etc. Beside that bowl is another iced bowl full of bottles of various colored and flavored drinks labeled Gatorade. There are two other bowls on the table: one is full of mini Muggle chocolate candies from Snickers to Twix to Milky Way bars to M&Ms, etc.; the other is full of more chewy flavors of Muggle candy such as Skittles, Dots, Jelly Beans, Twizzlers, etc. There are small bags at the end of the table for you to fill up with these goodies if you would like. Each of the four bowls is enchanted to automatically refill itself when it starts becoming low.
Various forms of Muggle music can be heard playing softly in the background. Anything from rock to pop to calm rap to R&B to Country can be heard in the mix.
There is a small raised platform at the front of the Muggle Studies classroom where a strange white board that looks like a chalkboard stands. It is known as a dry erase board and is a very Muggle inventions. Written on it in various colors of markers is a message from the Professor.
Quote:
Welcome to our first Muggle Studies Lesson!!!
Please come in and have a seat on one of the Bean Bags! Also don't forget to grab a few Muggle treats from the table of goodies!
Class will begin shortly!
OOC:
Please come in and have a seat. You may chat but keep it to a minimum. Remember that when class starts, you need to cut out chatting. Also don't post yourself coming in late, Gemma hates late arrivals and will not give you a warning, she will deduct points from the first time you are late.
I'm going to give you a few hours to get settled so I'll see you a in a little while!!! Class will officially start tomorrow morning when this mamma in waiting rolls out of bed.... *huggles you all*
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
~*Lesson Quick Links*~ (Will be updated as we go so you can find the Professor's links quickly and easily)
Please feel free to catch up at any time during the lesson. I don't mind if you post with answers to all of the missed questions at once or if you just wanna jump in where we are at and catch up later or just jump in where we are at. Whatever you want to do is fine with me....JUST don't post yourself coming in late to class that's a NO NO!
Violet raised her hand pretty sure she knew of this seeing as she was a muggle for nearly eleven years. "In some aspects are more advanced…I don't mean smarter I mean like…well these pencils and pens replaced quills for example so that we don't have to keep replacing ink every few words and the proper amount comes out every time…well until the pencil gets dull or the ink starts running out." Violet said looking at her professor.
Launna crept into the room nervously, and was slightly overwhelmed by all the colourful decorations. But she forgot about these straight away when she spotted the table covered with SWEETS!
She leapt over, snatched up a bag and began stuffing it to the brim with mars bars and skittles and twizzlers and twixes... She looked covetly around before starting to fill up a second bag. It wasn't as if they were going to run out, was it? And who knew when she was next going to see some normal sweets again? She still couldn't help feeling ever so slightly guilty (and a tad greedy) as she snuck over to a spare desk. She read the colourful whiteboard. They'd be playing board games? Nice.

Kurumi kept a very straight face as Professor Cerulean spoke. Pleasure to teach Muggle Studies...what had she done with Professor Zookara? Practice a disappearing trick last term and literally made the man disappear? Their final lesson of the term had been about non-magical magic tricks and the woman might just have let some real magic slip. Vanishing cabinets perhaps?
Kurumi accepted her notebook and pens and set them on her desk just as she posed the first question to the class. Kurumi quickly raised her hand. "The biggest difference, I think, is that nonmagical people have no knowledge of the wizarding world," she answered. It was the more obvious of answers, but an answer nonetheless. "Also, non-magical society would be almost incapable of functioning without electricity whereas our world doesn't require it."

Nika popped a few M&Ms in her mouth and smiled. She hasn't had these since she was really little. Her parents started banning chocolate in her house because it made her hyper. It's not like she didn't bring home stashes of chocolate frogs over the summer... Anyways back to class. Nika wanted to run up to her professor and give her a big hug when she announced there will be no muggle bashing. That's one of the things that bugs her most about some wizards. They bash muggles as if they are insects. Which they are not.
What makes muggles different? Well not too many things actually. "Well I want to say that they are more imaginative in some aspects. Like with all the inventions they come up with. It takes a lot of creativity because you have to come up with ways of building and stuff."

Minerva was so happy to be sitting in such a comfy bean bag. She needed that spell for hers at home. M&M's and Diet Coke she was in heaven now...Umm Professor, without really knowing to much of the Wizard world what about Holidays? We have so many Holidays, Labor Day, Halloween, Valentines Day. Do Wizard's have holidays like that? Sports might be another one. I know wizards play Quidditch, but what about American Football, Soccer, Volleyball is that different as well.By the way Professor do you think you could teach us the spell to make our own bean bags this comfy?"
Differences? Lana wasn't sure of any. She tried to remember what her brother used to talk about. After he left home and the last time she talked to him (few years ago), he mentioned many things about the muggle world. Lana didn't think much of it then because her mum and dad had dismissed all of it.
And suddenly she remembered and raised her hand. "Professor? My brother mentioned something about a .. computador? I'm not sure if that's how you say it. I don't know remember what or who it is either."

Aaron finished some more Dr Pepper, almost shaking, he was so hyper. He sat straight up on his beanbag, shaking around like a mad man.
His hand shot up in the air, frantically waving it around as if he'd die if he couldn't answer the question.
'OOH! OOH! Professor! WE'VE GOT SODA! We- I mean, Muggles. But that's me, sorta. Soda! So yummy!' Right on cue Aaron hiccuped, gahhh, he'd had too much soda.
SOO HYPER!
Aaron regretted drinking all that Dr Pepper now. But it was just so goooood.

Dallin had a very hard time not laughing out loud when Professor Cerulean explained the notebooks, pens, and pencils. He reached into the bag that came to him and grabbed the notebook and the blue pen. He didn't know why he didn't use these anyway... they were much less of a hassle than quills.
At the first question, Dallin instantly raised his hand. "Schooling is different for Wizards and Muggles. Most magical children don't start schooling until they're around eleven years old." Or ten, in his case. "Muggle children start much earlier, with a sort of Elementary, or primary school. For instance, I started school when I was five years old."

Nora was surprised to see all those muggle things they had to use. The notebook, the pens and pencils and whatever. She was sad, because she won't get the chance to use her pink flamingo feather quill. And... no magic? Well, unless she wanted to lose points, which she didn't.
Now... what made muggles different from the wizards? "Their healers... doctors can't heal people quickly as we do, using magic," Nora said with her hand in the air.
Ooh muggle facts.
Aurora had taught him enough about them to be able to answer at least one.
Scott raised his hand "Muggles use 'gadgets' called telephones to communicate with each other" That didn't sound too stupid did it?

"Other than magic, what traits or habits or ideas or events, etc. make Muggles different from us?"
Alice raised her hand and responded, "Food, but mainly desserts. Like the chocolate frog, or acid pops. Chocolate frogs are charmed to move like actual frogs. And as for acid pop... I think it's self explanatory how it's different from Lollipops."

Daisy looked to her right. Her 5th year friend, Aaron, was being quite dangerous.
Understatement.
Making a mental note, to never, ever let Aaron near Doctor Pepper again, Daisy broke into silent giggles, he was now yelling about soda.
Body shaking with laughter, Daisy raised her hand.
'Well,' she giggled, trying not to meet Aarons hyper eyes, which made her laugh harder 'muggles don't use owls, they have a letter-boxy thing,' she finished quickly, unable to speak without laughing at Aaron any longer.
Helping herself to some Doctor Pepper, which she had never had before, Daisy shot a look at Aaron, 'I've never had this before...' she said, taking a big swig. 'Plllllllffffttttt.'
Wheeeew. Doctor Pepper was AWESOME. Fizzy, sugary-ness. Daisy was in sugar heaven, and she could defintly see Aarons hyperness.

Ehhh, ...Muggle Studies.
Year after year, Sierra signed up for this class, yet year after year she came to regret it. She'd been born and raised right here in the magical world, and she was prefectly fine with not knowing what went on outside of it. She needed the electives, though, and Ancient Runes and Arithmancy were out.
She raised her hand. "In some ways, I think they've gotten lazy. They rely too much on electronics to do things for them and don't think on their own so much anymore," she said. "Sure, we have wands, but even wandwork requires a lot of thought." Yeah, Muggles were lazy.

Woah? No parchment or quills this lesson? Kimalia blinked, it felt like ages since she had to use regular pens and paper back at muggle primary school, but she was sure she would remember the feeling again. Hopefully this wouldn't affect her penmanship. Okay now let's see, what makes muggles different than wizards and witches. Kimalia raised her hand, "Well, Muggles have to deal more with manual labor than the average adult wizard probably ever will. It's mainly easy for us to only need to move things at the movement of a wand." There. She hoped that statement was neutral enough.

She glanced around the room with a smile as she watched all of the students getting comfy in their chairs and eating and conversing. She nodded her head slightly at all of the hellos and the excitement. She was happy to see so many happy faces because she knew that quite often Muggle Studies wasn't a fave or some students, especially students from one particular house.
She walked to the front of the class room and with a flick of her wand she silenced the Muggle music to signal to the class that it was time to start.
She took a deep breath and then started, "Hello everyone!" she said excitedly as the chatting started to cease across the classroom. "And welcome to our first Muggle Studies class!" she said as she turned around and erased the dry erase board with her hand...no magic just used an eraser.
She turned back around with a smile, "For those that don't know me, I'm Professor Gemma Cerulean. This is my second year teaching at Hogwarts. Last year, I had the pleasure of teaching History of Magic. This is my first year teaching Muggle Studies and I am very excited to try to make this class and subject fun and interesting." she said with her usual soft voice and smile. "For my returning students, I am sooo excited to see you and I can't wait to hear how your breaks went and for us to have more fun, and more goodies, through the year in our classes..." she said motioning towards the table. "And speaking of goodies, if you haven't grabbed any or you run out, feel free to get up at any time and grab some goodies...I'm all about food and snacks making lessons more interesting..." she finished up with a little wink at the students.
"This class' main focus is on the Muggle world and their practices and traditions and their daily lives. It is set up to help us better understand the Muggle world and to help us better meld into the Muggle world if we ever need to have interaction." she said everything very matter of fact with a smile on her face. "However, this class is not set up for us to make fun of the Muggles or to criticize the Muggles, so if you feel that you cannot handle yourself as a mature student in this class, then I suggest you go ahead and politely excuse yourself." yes that was the nice way of saying we weren't going to have Muggle bashing she thought with a little nod and a serious look/glare out at the students.
"Because this is a Muggle Studies class, we are going to utilize a few Muggle classroom ways while in the class." she flicked her wand and little bags started flying out to each of the students. "I would like to ask that while in this class that you refrain from using magic. I will use it occasionally to pass out things or take notes and such but I want to ask that you refrain from using it unless I specifically ask or you receive permission from me." the bags slowly landed beside each of the students. "Inside each of these bags you will find a few Muggle classroom items for you to utilize while in the class and while doing homework." she grabbed a bag hovering over her head and pulled the drawstring to open it. She slowly reached inside and pulled out each item slowly, "A notebook full of lined paper...this is what Muggles use to take notes and such in stead of parchment...so from this point on no parchment is allowed in this classroom or for use in homework. There should be plenty of paper in this notebook for you to use for the year." she reached in and pulled out a handful of long plastic items, "These are pens. I have put a red, black, blue, purple, green, and pink pen in each bag. We will not need quills in this class. These pens have plenty of ink within them to use for the term." she reached inside one more time, "And these are pencils. They are similar to the pens, however, on this end..." she said pointing towards the pink softy end, "is what's called an eraser and it will erase any errors that you make when you turn it over and rub your paper with that end..." she said with a little nod and then laid each of the items out on her desk at the front of the class.
She let the students examine the items for a few moments and then continued, "Okay let's get this lesson officially started..." she said excitedly as she turned towards the dry erase board and picked up a marker. OOC: Okey dokey...let's get this started...please remember to keep chatting down to zip because Gemma is watching...also remember to raise your hand before you answer and don't repeat answers...also only give ONE ANSWER so that others have plenty to do...we are all Muggles in real life so there should be plenty of answers being thrown out there...and remember she is serious about loss of points for rude comments...see you in a few! *MUAH*
Thea stared wide eyed as the professor approached her.Ah nooo, was she going to get into trouble?!! It was only COKE! Woa woa, and breaaaathe. Oh.. Thea watched as the coke was instantly cleared away. Accepting the new.. normal can she smiled. 'Thanks, professor.' Leaning back again, she took a sip. It wasn't that bad, really...
Raising her hand, Thea had an answer straight away. 'The games that they play.. or sports.' She waved her hand slightly.. whatever. 'They play silly things such as netball and.. hockey..' These were more dangerous than a rough game of Quidditch, in her eyes. 'They run around, so you get all rank and sweaty THEN if you don't score, you get hit in the face by the rebounding ball if you haven't been ripped apart by your team already..' Thea shrugged. This was hgow it had been in her old school. she wasn't being rude, she was just.. laying it down. She took another sip from her can. And WHO was that annoying kid who kept shouting all of the time?!?!?! She shot a Thea type glare his way. She didn't care if he was older or not!

Aaron spotted Daisy, dying from silent laughter and burst out in laughter too. He did his best to stay quiet, but he just couldn't control his hyperness.
LETTER BOXY THING Aaron high-fived Daisy. Non-Muggleborn folk were hilarious. He rolled around on his beanbag in silent laughter. God, he sure loved Muggle Studies.
He gave Daisy an approving nod as she tried some Dr Pepper and whispered, 'isn't it the best thing ever?' He then returned his attention to class, forcing a solemn look onto his face.
Good grades, good grades. Get into his parents' good book.

Muggles, goodies; Angelina was in heaven! She knew she was going to love this class even more then she did before it started! Muggles they are very smart for not knowing about magic. Angelina raised her hand and said, "Muggles to me are very smart for non-magical. They came up with many things! I heard they came up with a fone?" Angelina had no idea if she said it right or not, but all she knew it was a way advance way to tell someone something then an Owl!
Scott stared in disbelief at some of the students.
The Professor had said that she would punish anyone that bashed muggles, and here he was hearing all sorts of things such as; 'They play silly sports' and 'they're lazy'
Aaron spotted Daisy, dying from silent laughter and burst out in laughter too. He did his best to stay quiet, but he just couldn't control his hyperness.

Daisy grinned and high-fived Aaron back. Letter boxy thing, muggles were so funny. She had to bite her lip to stop herself from laughing her head off out loud.
Ouch
Apparently Daisy had bitten too hard. Her lip was now bleeding inside.
Taking another swig of the amazing drink to try and ignore the bleeding, Daisy had a thought.
So the drink was called Doctor Pepper. That must mean it had peppers in, right? Why in the name of Merlin's pink pyjamas did muggles make fizzy drinks out of peppers. Daisy supressed another giggle at the thought of muggles buying drinks made of vegtables. Muggle studies was FUN...

Em couldn't help but let a small smile come to her face as Professor Cerulean said the wouldn't be busing ink and parchment to do assignments. Even as a fourth year, their regular method of note taking still seemed foreign to her. And Emmaleigh would have never though that pens and paper would need to be explained.
"what traits, habits, ideas or events, make Muggles different ?" That was really a tough question, because really they were the same. They still did all of the same thing, just in different ways. In most ways, the Puff felt that magic was really the only difference. That, and knowledge of magic, but Kurmui had already said that. And then a thought hit her so she raised her hand. "Well, in many ways, muggles can find out information easier that we can. Here at Hogwarts, if we want to do research, we have to spend hours in the library looking at different books trying to find the information we want. Muggles can use a computer to search the internet for what they want to know, and usually find what they are looking for rather quick. And muggles have even made it easier to carry some books around. Unless we use an undetectable extension charm, We are only able to carry around a few books at a time, but Muggles have created a device that allows you to carry around tons of books on a device no bigger than this." And she held of the notebook she had been given.

August smiled as the Professor introduced herself and told them about the free snacks and drinks. She was very enthusiastic to teach it seemed, which meant well for the class in the end. He nodded as she explained her history in teaching and other things.
Chuckling slightly as she handed them the muggle class items and watched as she had to explain them to the kids who came from magical families. That must be how it seemed to them when he asked silly questions about the magical world. And now they were answering the first question, which would definately be easy for him.
"Professor a differece would be Potions and muggle medicine. Although muggles have many vaccines and medicines to protect them but things like the Pepperup potion which can cure coldlike symptoms don't exist in the muggle world. They only have medicine to treat symptoms not stop them."

*MUAH*
He aint gonna hide it, Salander got a kick out of the notebooks and pen that the Professor handed out. Reminded him when he was in Muggle elementary. Now if only she included a long straw...
He took a swig of Mt Dew then raised his hand on the Professor's question "Currency Professor." the Slytherin replied "Us Wizards use galleons and sickles and knuts-- coins essentially-- made of valued metals. Muggle coins arent made of valued metals like gold or silver." the ones he knew anyway "More importantly Muggles cant carry too much coins around because it gets too heavy-- they dont have magic to make it smaller or lighter. Instead they've devised paper bills that carry more value than individual coins. But paper bills can also get heavy and bulky in large amounts, so Muggles have come up with something called a credit card-- its essentially a small plastic card linked to their bank account where all their money are stored, whether it be paper bills or coins or actual valued items like gold or silver."

Gwenyth frowned at everyones comments that were against or at least they appeared to be, against the Muggle culture. She really enjoyed her muggle life at home, she felt that it benefited her and she felt more accomplished doing what she was doing.
The Brunette scowled at the girl who said they were lazy about to answer back that they were lazy for using wands to everything but she managed to bite her tongue. "Not all Muggles use technology" she stated in a small voice. Her family liked to do everything the old fashioned way. Nothing wrong with a bit of hard work and a smile at the end of it.
"Muggles have communities" Wizards by the looks of it tended to keep themselves to themselves. "I think that personally there is a lot more culture in Muggles then there are here" Wizards and Witches can do magic, that was it. That was ALL that made them different. "There are SO many things that make each Muggle different. Groups of people that share something between them. Like my family, we live in a commune, a shared accommodation where we shared everything with one another. I don't think you'd find something like that here" she replied biting her lip. "At least that's what I think" she glanced down at the floor in case anyone disagreed with her. She wasn't used to this Magical stuff, she really didn't know.
Desiree listened as the Professor started talking and suddenly bags were flying towards them.. pens, notebooks, and pencils.. confused she picked up a pretty purple 'pen' and tried to write with it "It doesn't even work" she mumbled. Looking around she realized you had to click it first. Oh.
Embarrassed she quickly looked back up at the teacher. What did muggles do differently? Oh Desiree was going to be very lost in this class, but at least the teacher seemed nice. What little she knew had already been said. Rolling the 'pencil' around she thought of something "Well, Professor their pictures and paintings don't move, they're just.." she paused as though struggling with how to explain "still and flat, unlike ours which can talk and move around." She finished pleased she had at least thought of something, she settled back into her bean bag chair still eating her bag of Skittles, muggles definitely knew how to make good candy.
