A great number of floor-to-ceiling bookshelves fill the library, creating rows and aisles of books available for students to read and check out. When returning books to the higher shelves, just hold up the tome and the shelves will take care of the rest; there's a spell on the shelves which summons the returned book to the correct place. Of course, when retrieving a book, they don't 'know' what you're looking for, so those who aren't yet accomplished in the use of the Summoning Charm may use one of the sliding ladders that move around from bookcase to bookcase.
In front of each set of shelves is a small desk. Students can sit at these desks to complete homework or copy down notes and book references. Be aware that other students may need to access books above you… so mind your head.
You can find any book here that's appropriate for all school years, so browse to your heart's content.

She loved to smell that rich, deep scent of ink and paper and time. And more than anything, she loved to open the books, and if the paper was thick enough, and if the letterpress pushed hard enough, she could drift a fingertip across the page and feel the letters, etched into the pages. That was what she loved. And just then, she bumped into someone. She was immediately annoyed, her wonderful thoughts was ruined. But as she turned to see who the disruptive stranger was, she saw none other than her friend, Emma Malfoy.
Emma heard footsteps walking up to her side and then someone bumped into her. "Umm.. Sorry, didn't see you there," began Emma, quietly in a polite voice but then she looked down to see her favourite first year standing in front of her. Oh ALICE! "Hi Alice!" she exclaimed. Wow, Emma hadn't pictured meeting up with Alice in the library. Alice was noisy and outgoing but who knew, perhaps she had a quieter side that Emma didn't know about? "So how are you? How have you been liking Hogwarts?"

Oh, Emma. "Are you honestly trying to make small talk with me?" Alice rolled her eyes, but nevertheless, she beamed up at her tall companion. The first year hadn't seen her scheming friend since they met up at the Carousel in Diagon Alley. "I've heard there was a Restricted section here, where is it?" The first year could only imagine what books they had in that area, and if they had all those great books within their reach.... obviously that would be of some aid to their plans.

Sarah had wandered all over the castle. Ahh, exploration . And now, she found herself hack where she had started. The library. Well, who knows? Maybe there was something cool in the library.
As she casually walked around the large, book-filled space, Sarah heard mention of a restricted section. Oooh, now she was interested.
She made her way over to the girl who had mentioned it, "Not meaning to intrude..." okay, technically, she was intruding, but come on! Give a girl a break. When she heard something interesting, she wanted to find out about it. "But, I heard you mention something about a restricted section. Is there really?"

Her curiosity had been tapped!
The blonde Malfoy smiled at Alice. "Perhaps I am. No. I'm seeing how you're doing at the school. It's your first week. Don't want to get a first year like yourself getting lost," added Emma, with a kind smile. Oh Alice. Emma's blonde eyebrows raised slowly. A Restricted section? "Yeah, its somewhere around-" began the Malfoy and then someone was talking the two of them. Merlin, she looked pretty small too. As small as a first year too. And a Slytherin.
"No offense at all. Yes, there is. But you don't want to go about losing points from the Slytherin house," added Emma, giving the girl a small smile yet a stern glance too. "I'm guessing its your first year here at Hogwarts? I'm Emma Malfoy. Fifth year Slytherin. And this is my friend, Alice," explained the blonde Malfoy giving the girl a smile.

Perfect. They were friendly. Actually, most of the people she met were nice, but you never knew. She had heard about some mean people.
"Hi," she grinned, "it's nice to meet you guys. And yeah, I'm a first year."
She almost laughed, "No, I wouldn't try to lose more points for Slytherin. Merlin knows we've already lost too many. I was just curious. You see, I'm a muggleborn, so I don't really know much about this place, therefore I've made it my mission to explore. The 'restricted section' just sort of captured my interest."
Nope. She most likely wouldn't go in there. She didn't want to be the one who pushed the Slytherins farther into the negatives.

Alice laughed at Emma's thought of the little firstie getting lost in the castle. "Well, I've been taking night strolls which gives me an advantage over the others..." And what was she forgetting? GABY! "And I found a partner in crime! Her name is Gaby Parker, and she was only a prankster when I met her, but she's very open minded about world domination." The small girl beamed. Yes, she and Gaby had met while breaking the rules. They were an awesome team. But nobody could be another Emma, she was too.... unique.
Alice was about to make another comment about the Resticted section when she heard another voice. She turned to see another girl, who immediately announced she was a first year, like herself. Ehh, maybe she had seen her in a few classes? And then Emma introduced her, thank god. If Alice spoke, she'd probably start ranting about eavesdropping. Not that she thought the other first year was listening in, or anything. But then she started talking about losing points for her own house, and being a muggleborn Slytherin, and wanting to go into the Restricted section. Alice grinned and forgot her earlier thoughts, this was a first year she could easily be friends with. "I didn't catch your name," she said. "And who cares about house points? I say we go into that section right now, I don't think the librarian is looking."

"It's Sarah," she repeated, smiling, "Sarah Oliver."
She felt...rather amused by this girl. She kind of reminded her of Eris, just a little...taller. No offense Eris! but you're just really short
"I'd love to go in there!" she said, grin growing bigger, "Maybe if we come back after the library is closed down, no one'll notice!"
Elsie walked into the library. It seemed like one of the most impressive places she had seen thus far. She had always had a great love for books, something she had inherited from her mother. After taking it all in she started looking around for a copy of Hogwarts A History. Her copy had gone missing and she wanted to read up on some of the places she had been exploring over the last day.
''Is it your favourite class?'' she asked curiously ''Once or twice it's awesome there,'' Luna replied now she knew it was her favourite class
''Quidditch! Can you play?,'' she didn't know if Gwen was the sporty type or not but she wanted to find out
''Anything to do with flying and other books just for facts in class and stuff like that!'' Luna replied looking threw another book deciding she'd take it aswell How many books five.. no six great I can get plenty more ''Great so far thanks i've been in the liabrary most of my time and just exploring some more I more or less forgot where everything is!'' Luna admitted which made her feel bad cause Hogwarts was the only place she really felt at home ''How about you?'' she asked and she smiled
Right, I should stop picking books, the second year decided and glimpsed at the four ones she was holding. Odd that I only picked the ones that have to do with Potions. Maybe it’s a bit too much, she thought, but it didn’t even cross her mind to put some of them back. I’ll probably finish them in less than a week, anyway…‘Hmm? Oh yeah’, she finally replied to Luna. It’s kind of obvious, isn’t it?‘But I like charms and transfiguration a lot too’, she went on talking. ‘I don’t know about DADA, though. Since we didn’t have any class for that last year’, the girl finally finished saying.
Gulp… can I play? The answer to that would be NOOOOOOOOO! But I don’t want to seem a looser. What shall I do?!?! I KNOW! The thing I always do… that thing that Ari and most of the normal people I talk to hate- omit to answer! Bingo…, Gwendolyn thought and pretended to be looking at some books. Was it too obvious? Probably…
All right! That’s it! I’ll start training!, the girl finally thought, determined to do so. I’ll train daily this year and maybe next year I’ll even try to make it on the team. Come on, if dumb people like William can fly and play Quidditch, so can I!, Gwendolyn thought. Perhaps I should have been placed in Slytherin after all, the second year told herself. I’m ambitious, hate failure, can’t stand it when others are better than me or when I can’t do something…
‘Right’Typical Ravenclaw, spending a lot of time in the library!‘Oh, me?’, Gwen repeated, looking at the girl and then moved around to check out a few more books. No-enough!‘Um… Well, I started exploring the castle last year, but I probably didn’t even manage to see half of it, so I decided to continue investigating this year’, she replied. Yeah, that’s pretty much all she did since she came back. ‘So… have you met the first years?’, the girl asked her friend. Let’s see what you think of them…

She decided after a while that Gwen really wanted to ignoor that subject she didn't really mind shejust liked flying and quidditch but it wasn't as importent as proper subjects like Transfiguration and Charms and so on
''Yeah but it is quite hard isn't it I mean with classes and everything,'' Luna smiled and looked for more books they were just soooooo tempting
''Yes I have!'' Luna replied not really knowing what to say you couldn't really have a proper conversation anymore because you'd find at least one person there already it was like herself last year but was she really that annoying? ''They're nice enough....''UGHH nice seriously she really wanted to hear Gwen's opinion first so she wouldn't think that she was rude or mean
Emily walked up and down the aisles, running her fingers across the spines of each and every book. She'd soon read them all, she told herself. But first things first - to finish the book she'd started last year.
Following Kurumi's advice she decided to start in the S section and read about other spells and sea life. And to get her mind of other things. This really was her sanctuary, where no-one would find her. She picked up Sonnets of a Sorcerer that she'd started last year and continued to look for a book that interested her.

Emma smiled at the young girl who's name she did not know yet. Hmmm.. What was her name? She'd ask later. The blonde nodded and gave the girl a kind smile as she proclaimed that she wouldn't want to loose anymore points from Slytherin. "Good. Yeah. Can't believe we're already in the negatives? Merlin. Oh muggleborn, I see? Cool! Yes, I do know what you mean." added Emma as she craned her head around the corner as if she was looking for the section too.
Then Alice was speaking to her. So Emma turned her head towards Alice and listened. The blonde laughed. "Night strolls? Well that helps!" added Emma as she began to wonder how little Alice had snuck past the Prefects and Head Boy and Girl. Merlin, Alice must have been a master of disguise. A genius. Emma admired Alice's sneaky nature. And Emma's face grew brighter as Alice said that she had found a partner in crime called Gabby Parker! "That's brilliant Alice! I'm really glad to hear that! And that's excellent that she's open to World Domination. Do you know what house she's in?" asked Emma, curiously.
Emma held her hands up in the air. "Yeah. I'd go in too," she said, shrugging, not wanting to seem like a coward in front of these two first years. But honestly, Emma didn't think going in there was a wise idea. She didn't want to be banned from Quidditch for a whole term or not granted access to Hogsmeade. That would be terrible if that did happen! Merlin. So the blonde stayed silent and patiently listened to Alice. Merlin, she liked Alice a lot but Alice was going to get herself into trouble or something one of these days. That Gryffindor instinct. You see, the Malfoy didn't mind getting into trouble but if she got into trouble this year than she wouldn't be able to spend time with those she cared about who were leaving at the end of the year.
Then the new girl who was curious about the Restritced Section spoke up. Oh so her name was Sarah Oliver? "Nice to meet you Sarah!" said Emma with a smile as she beamed at the two shorter first years. Merlin, she felt a little odd talking to two first years and being five foot seven. "You know, I would join you guys but I think you guys would have an easier time slipping out of trouble. You two are first years and the older seventh years will probably think your adorable. I couldn't get past them. I would need an invisibility cloak or some charm to help," said the Malfoy, chuckling.

Sarah's grin widened into its fully-formed crooked smile, "I'm pretty sure I don't count as adorable any more. Too tall." she was around 5'2". People stopped counting her as 'adorable' when she hit about 5 feet.
"But, I've been running around playing explorer all day with my partner in crime, Eris. Have you heard about the Room of Requirement? We almost squashed by a boulder in there."
Ah, good times
"I might be able to get out, and if she's any good at sneaking, then we'd be all set."
Her fellow first year looked perfect for sneaking. She was sure that Eris would love her.

Exploration, and not losing points are GOOD.

Sarah Liver? No, O-liver. Awww, shucks, Liver would have been an awesome last name.
But Alice didn't know if this girl was sneaky enough or not, and Emma, judging by her pained expression, was already having second thoughts about the Restricted section. Maybe another day? "I don't know. Another time, I'd absolutely love to go in there, but maybe we should wait until a few weeks of school have passed. A firstie committing a crime in the first week is a bit too soon, for me." Ehh, she sounded like a goody two shoes. Emma was going to owe her big time. "And Gaby is a Ravvie. She's smaarrtt," the girl said. Yup, that was her bud.
Adorable?! Did Emma even know Alice?! And Sarah was 5 feet 2 inches?? She hadn't seemed that much taller than the other firstie... "I am NOT adorable," Alice said. "And you two seem so tall compared to me. I'm 4'9." Sometimes, it seemed she would never grow. Ever. But at least she knew one person around her height; Selena. Although, that wasn't very helpful, considering that Selena was a fifth year, like Emma. "Who's Eris?! And how can you get squashed by boulder indoors?" Wow, this firstie either had a very vivid imagination or was mental. Ehh, it was probably both.
"What time is it?" Alice asked. She didn't really care about whether she got in trouble or not, but she liked her classes. Magic was fun.

Sarah blinked. Alice obviously thought she was mental. She sighed, "The Room of Requirement," she repeated, giving a tolerant smile, "My friend Eris and I fond out about it. We're not sure about what makes it work, but we were exploring Hogwarts and we found this random door, so we walked in and it was sort of like a jungle. We went through it and found a cave. Upon entering the cave..." she omitted part of the story. No need to share that part. "A giant boulder came rolling at us. We got out right before it squashed us flat." she shrugged, "Apparently Eris was thinking about adventure when we found the room Maybe that has something to do with it."
Sarah shrugged. Whether this girl believed her or not, it happened. And she definitely intended to do some research on this Room of Requirement.
...
Maybe in the Restricted Section.
Sarah smirked, whether Alice or Emma would go in with her, Eris would be up for it.

The blonde Malfoy laughed a little as Sarah admitted that she wasn't adorable and she shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly. Let the young first years think what they'll think. Meh. Room of Requirement? Emma's ears perked up too. "Yes, Its a brilliant room. I go there a lot," explained the Snake with a kind smile, before folding her arms. And Emma's eyebrows raised as Sarah also said she had a partner in crime. Merlin, kids these days, stealing her grand schemes and ideas...
Emma was about to let out a sigh of relief when Alice said she wasn't so keen on committing a crime in the first week. Good. Merlin, Emma was thinking that she'd have to run after Alice and save her. Yes, Emma had saved Alice once already from those tentacles in the fountain. A Ravenclaw as a partner in crime? Now, that was a pretty smart choice. "Ah, well its good to have a Ravenclaw on the team," she added, with a smirk.
The blonde rolled her eyes as Alice began arguing about how she wasn't ADORABLE! Come on, Alice was 4'9, eleven, and really sweet. Emma smirked a little, before giving Alice a sympathetic look and before Emma could say anything else, Sarah was talking. So Emma decided to bite her tongue and wait. As the conversation moved on, Emma looked down at her watch as Alice mentioned about what time it was. The blonde Malfoy always made sure that she had a watch on, because you never knew when you were going to need it. "It's four in the afternoon. MERLIN! I have to go. It was nice meeting you Sarah and I'll see you around Alice, I promised a friend of mine that I'd meet him at the Lake," began Emma. Oh Merlin. She was late. VERY LATE!

"Bye!" she called after her.
Sarah smirked. They both thought she was insane, but at least Eris had been there with her. Eris knew it was real.
She shrugged and turned to Alice, "I'll see you around." she said, smiling.
Walking around trying to find Hogwarts a History Elsie turned a corner and accidently bumped into a girl.
With a horrified look Elsie quickly apologised "I am so sorry! I wasn't watching where I was going! Still getting used to Hogwarts sorry!" Elsie relaxed slightly as she realised the girl was in Gryffindor, she thought she recognised her.

Willow walked into the library, intending to find her friend, Hebe.
She started wandering through the bookshelves before she reached the 'Magical Creatures' section and spotter her. Nice meeting spot! How did you know I liked animals?" she laughed. "So, how are you liking Hogwarts?" she asked, smiling.

Elsie looking around saw Willow enter the library so she decided to go and talk to her. They seemed to get along well enough in the Gryffindor common room, she seemed really nice. As she walked over Elsie realised that she must be there to meet up with another student, she suddenly got worried she was imposing. "Hey Willow! Isn't this place cool? I just came over to say Hi, I'm not interrupting anything am I?
Elsie looked at the girl she was meeting, another first year from Slytherin. "Hi I'm Elsie."

"Oh! Hey Elsie! No, no your not interrupting anything!" said Willow, greeting her friend with a hug. "Elsie, this is Hebe, a Slytherin first year, but you probably already guessed that." she laughed. "So, what brings you to this part of the castle?" Willow asked, taking down a book about Hippogriffs.

"Yeah, Hi Hebe!" Elsie said smiling at her, she hadn't met anyone in slytherin yet!
Elsie noticed Willow taking a book on Hippogriffs and wondered if that was one of her interests. Elsie didn't know too much about Magical Creatures. "I've just been trying to explore the castle really, and I wanted to read up on some of the things I had been seeing so I came to find Hogwarts A History. What about you guys?" Elsie said smiling.
