Eat, drink, and be merry, O Badgers. Classes begin again tomorrow.
The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.
And what's this? The silverware is tarnished and askew, almost as if thrust on the table willy-nilly. Take a seat and search for a clean spoon while the Sorting Hat ceremony commences. The House Elves have done their clean up work quickly and effectively, and the silverware and dishes are now set to right.
Dude. The Pensevies aint got nothing on you. Aslan is the God

"Well if they have really gone on strike, we might have to prepare the food oursleves." Which would probably be a disaster since Mia wasn't the greatest of cooks. She was still learning.
Mia heaved a sigh. Well this was just great. She hadn't wanted to come back to school but her boyfriend insisted that she did and now look. The elves weren't here. Who was she going to whine to now? Belatedly realising that she was talking to a girl she didn't know. She dropped the spoon onto the table and held out her hand. "I'm Mia by the way. Seventh year."
Oh, Amy could deal with that she thought, slightly more mollified, she was used to cooking her own food at home, not in a sort of "I'm-soooo-poor" way, but in a "I-like-to-be-independant" way, a lot of the kids here would be shocked by the idea of cooking for themselves because their parents or their cook, or house elf cooked for them.
She took another sip and looked around the room when she heard the girl emmiting a sigh, Amy she nodded, taking the hand, fifth year, she said, shaking the tanned hand. So you're in your final year Amy said, making small talk, because she couldn't imagine ever finishing Hogwarts. Ever.

"Pleasure to meet you Amy." she said, shaking the girl's hand before dropping her own onto the table and fiddling with the spoon she had been looking at before. "Yep final year." And about time too, she almost added but was smart enough to keep that comment to herself. She didn't want to have to explain why she didn't want to be here.
Eh this was her last opening feast and it looked as though there probably wasn't going to be a feast. Thankfully she had purchased some goodies on the train. Reaching into her pocket, Mia pulled out a couple of pumpkin pasties and held one out to Amy. "Would you like one?" She was pretty sure that she still had some cauldron cakes too.
Did you just lose something? The GAME? Sorry... 'Justin Bieber, he is the man!' U mad, Felton!?

Marie had totally chosen not to be a part of any of the drama that was going on over at hr own house table. She was determined for this to be a drama free year for her so here she was, walking over to the 'Puff table. Scanning the table she didn't find Matty anywhere but she did see Mia. Now there was definitely someone that was drama free. Walking over to her friend she plopped down beside her. "Hey Mia, mind if I sit here with you?" Not that Marie was really giving her much of a choice since she was already sitting down. And apparently she was interrupting something here.
Oops.
"Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt." Whoa, did Marie just apologize? Wow, she really was trying to be a better person here wasn't she. Looking over at the girl Mia was talking to she gave her a small smile. "Hi, I'm Marie."
Yep, Marie could do this. She could do the whole being nice to others thing... just as long as she stayed away from the cousins 'It'.

Daphne was still amazed. The huge hall, the people, the atmosphere..everything was just fantastic. Like, literally mind boggling. The sixteen year old was wayy too excited and nervous.
Daphne noticed a girl from another house..Slytherin, judging by her robes take a seat at her table. Um. Was that even allowed? Daphne ventured to say a polite "Hello." and gave a smile.

Faven's attention was taken from her conversation with Arya when she heard her name called. She looked up to see Rose, the Gryffindor who had been so helpful on the train. "Hi Rose!" Faven exclaimed. "This is the prefect for my house, Arya. Arya this is Rose, a second year and.....hopefully...a friend of mine....." Faven said that cautiously for she didn't want to assume anything was between Rose and her.

Faven looked up from her multi-person conversations to see an older girl looking down at the place settings with a disguested look on her face. She had a green badge on her robs, marking her as a Slytherin. Trying to be nice and se if she could offer assistance Faven asked "Hi there, is something the matter?"
Rose ran to find the Puff she had been chatting to on the Train. Faven. She noticed her talking to someone, and thought about going in, she migh not want her to! She decided to take a chance. 'Faven!' Rose smiled as she walked up to her.
Violet noticed her sister Rose and ran up to her. 'ROSE!' She yelled, as she hugged her tightly. 'I'm in Hufflepuff! I love it, but I'm not with you and Lilly!' Violet sobbed.

Faven was overjoyed, her first real friend! "Yay!" She giggled. "Ohhh, sisters! I thought she was just a good friend!" Faven laughed.
'Aaron's the name. Nice to meet you.' He piled some ketchup onto his plate, his stomach grumbling. 'Thanks. I thought I'd be the only one to know what ketchup is.'
Without bothering to wait any longer Aaron piled a large spoonful of whatever he was eating into his mouth. It shouldn't be allowed to let Aaron go without food for more than 30 minutes, he was starving.
'Yeah, nice to meet you,' said Daisy, trying not to giggle at the enthusiasm Aaron ate his food with.
'I think most people know what ketchup is,' she continued, putting ketchup onto some roasted parsnips, 'but they don't eat it quite as much as me,' she said, putting some of the food in her mouth as she watched the boy eat as though he hadn't for days.

All the sorting's really. "Did you get sorted into Hufflepuff?"
Amethyst nodded smiling as she answered the question, "Indeed I did, Miss Ayra! How was your train ride?" She sat down next to her smiling, but then looked down at the silverware, seeing what she'd noticed. House Elves' job? She shook it off. She had hoped nothing bad was uprising.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Jory sat at the Hufflepuff table enjoy looking at everyone chatter away. There were many first years and he was pleased to see there was a good set of Huffies.
Jory looked at the food around him. There was so much he didn't know what to choose. Finally he chose salad and chicken legs. Settling back to enjoy his meal, his eyes fell on the Gyffindor table. He wondered where Ari was. He hadn't seen her on the train. He wondered where she was.
Nessie walked over to the Hufflepuff table and started looking for a spot to sit. Her sister still hadn't been sorted yet, but she was sure Juliet would be sorted soon. She just hoped her sister would be in Hufflepuff it would be so much easier to look after her then. She didn't seem to see any people she knew so she took a seat alone with Puffles her pygmy puff on her shoulder. o____O
Rubbing her eyes, Nessie tried to make sure she was seeing right. There was no food on the table, just empty plates and dirty clutlery. She opened and closed her eyes trying to convince herself it wasn't true and it was just a dream, but everytime she opened her eyes nothing changed, the forks, spoons and knives were still filthy and the plates were empty. This was not going to be a good first impresion for the firstbies. The first years would probably want to leave once they saw that there wasn't any food, they'd all be scared.
Puffles groaned on her shoulder, he must have been just as hungry as her. Her stomach grumbled as she crossed her arms and watched as one by one the firstbies got sorted. She couldn't believe she was one of them last year.
'Yup, we're all Mudbl-Muggleborns...' Rose grinned as she rectified herself, people didn't usually like it when she called herself a Mudblood.
'DAISY!' Rose shrieked as she saw one of her best friends.
Emma walked over to her house table and smiled. She was a Hufflepuff! Once she got to Hufflepuff table, she saw two of her friends from the train. "Rose! Daisy!" She said loudly.
'DAISY!' Rose shrieked as she saw one of her best friends.
'Hi Rose,' Daisy grinned across the table, putting down her fork. 'I kinda lost you on the train, you know, met some other people. How are you?' she smiled to her Gryffindor friend.

Jesifur supposed the girl hadn't heard her. Her mother had told her she must speak up if she wanted to be heard, but it was always such a struggle. Jesifur was pretty much unsure if she did actually want to be heard most of the time.
She picked up a spoon and breathed on it and started shining it with her robes. Setting it down in precisely the correct spot she picked up the fork and started working on that one too.
Her mind was wandering. Had the house elves gotten ill? Are they on strike? do house elves even strike? Where's the food everyone was talking about. The table sat in disarray with confused looking hufflepuffs muttering all around. What was going on?
Justin was late to the Great Hall yet again. He looked around his house table for a seat and decided that it would be best to sit on the end. He was painfully shy and didn't want to interupt anyones conversation. So, he sat down and ran his hands through his sandy blonde hair and stared at his empty plate and watched all of his favorite foods fill his plate. Justin watched in amazement as asmile appeared upon his face.

Sadie had been spacing out a bit, still taking in the Great Hall. She couldn't wait to see what the rest of the castle and the grounds looked like! Inevitably, she went off into a daydream, imagining all of the fun things she might do here. It was during this daydream that she vaguely heard someone speaking across from her, and it was some time before Sadie realized that whoever was speaking must have been speaking to her.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" she said in earnest as she brought her attention to the tiny girl seated across from her. She, too, seemed puzzled by the uncleanliness of the cutlery. "It's just..." Sadie sighed pleasantly, still extremely content with just being here. "Hogwarts is so lovely... I'm Sadie McQuillen, and I'm sorry but I didn't catch your name...?" Sadie was surprised at her own sudden confidence, but thought that maybe making friends wasn't hard after all.
