| | History of Magic: Reference Room
The large room is a couple doors down from the History of Magic classroom. Inside is a mini library filled with books all related to Wizard history. A bunch of desks are placed in the room, as well as some tables for group work.
Currently at the front of the room is a large table. On the table is a large bunch of long and thick twigs, and a few containers. Each container holds a different item. If you want Unicorn hair, Dragon heart strings, fake Phoenix feathers, Kneazle whiskers, Veela hair, Peacock feathers, Kelpie hair and Dittany stalk, then you can check in the respected labelled container. If you happen to notice that anything is running low, please inform Professor Scabior. OCC: Professor Scabior is no longer in the room, nor will he return.

Brett Carlen Flourish and Blotts Shopkeeper | Post # 5; flexibility and cleaning up. Potter Nurse || Hockey obsession <3 | Go Wings! || Geaux Tigers!
Kourtney mentally went over the characteristics of the wand; the length…check…the core…check…the wood…check…the..oh. Flexibility. She picked up the wand again and felt it again, and then pointed it forward as though she were going to cast a spell with it. It wasn’t very flexible or springy, but that was okay. She had figured Aberforth’s wand to be very unyielding. He was said to have a stubborn personality, and since his patronus was a goat…and a goat was often unyielding and stubborn, it made sense for his wand to be such.
With a smile of satisfaction, Kourtney laid the makeshift wand down on the table. Now to clean up, and then write her parchments for the rest of the final.
She collected the books that she had used, and placed them in their respective places on the bookshelves. When she returned to her workspace, she waved her wand, casting the cleaning charm and watched as the debris and wood shavings disappeared.
All done. Carefully placing the makeshift wand into her bag, she stowed her own wand into her robes, and made her way to the door of the room. One part of the assignment down, two more to go.

Louisa lost track of time as she went on with those four books, Merope was clearly structured in her mind by the time she closed the last one and stared forward. That young lady's life was depressed and miserable, Louisa couldn't understand how she survived the nineteen years of life like that.
Sighing silently she pulled over the Wandtrees Handbook and started.
" Perfect," Louisa's finger lingered on the Ash page. Merope is thought to have used the Imperius curse on her husband. In fact it is enough that Merope was one of Salazar Slytherin descendant to have such a wood for her wand. That was what Louisa was convinced of, anyway.

| Post #4 Selecting supplies Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna Now for the fun part, the actual attempt to make a wand at least figuratively. With a quick glance at his papers in passing and then leaving his notes on the desk he had been working at, Gideon resumed his journey to the front table where he had seen bundles of twigs and containers of ingrediants when he had first been wandering around finding books. Like before, the fourth year started with picking a twig for his wand, trying his best to chose somehing that bore some resemblance to the picture from the book of the apple wood he had chosen.
He also knew he had to be concerned for the size, something not to small for she was an adult but not to long since it would likely be unwieldy if she was a woman of small stature and size. But when he found nothing that he liked for the type in the shorter lengths, the Gryffindor decided to see if he could shorten one of the longer ones he had liked out of his options. One choice down, one or two more to go.
The core was more up for interpretation seeing as judging by the labels, the ingrediants for them weren't all real and his main choice for the wand he was working on wasn't even available. Probably was too dangerous or rare for an unexperienced wizard to be working with. In that case, when Gideon spotted the container of peacock feathers he felt it was a perfect substitute for fwooper feathers and grabbed one and on second thought took a few fake phoenix feathers too. With feathers and twig in hand, the Gryffindor then returned to his seat to put it all together.

With another one or two new books lying open on top of all the others, Louisa started her research about a suitable core/s for Merope's wand. They had to be connected to dark magic, Imperius curse or even Slytherin people. Makes sense, right?
" Using a wand with this core has been illegal in Britain since 1782, after it was discovered that the wielder of an Acromantula web wand has particular ability with Dark magics, especially the Imperius curse." Louisa pondered more over those lines, it meant that Merope's wand didn't have Acromantula web core since she didn't live in the 1700s but it would've been a great core for such a girl! Louisa wrote that one down and went back to the book.
" Ah! It's so perfect," the Ravenclaw said happily before writing this one down. Basilisk-core wands are either the heirloom of Slytherin-type Pureblood families, that was the main catchy line! Merope should have inherited this kind of wand from her father, you know, if she was his favorite. History implied that her brother was most likely to get such a rare wand, though. Louisa added this other one anyhow.

Kennedy returned to his desk empty handed. He had reconsidered engraving a latin word on the wand, instead he thought a rune symbol would speak more than just one simple word. He sat down and took out his notes from Ancient Runes and skimmed them. His green eyes stopped at the Eihwaz symbol. It represented strength, dependability, durability and other meanings, but this was good enough to describe his "little" person.
He lifted the makeshift wand and pointed his wand at it. "Defodio!" he said, casting the gouging spell. He slowly traced the symbol on the wand, making sure that it didn't go too deep. When he was done, Kennedy made sure that the Eihwaz symbol was just visible on the wand.
It was!
He casted the Glisseo charm on it once again so it'll look glazed and polished. He was finally done with...his "little" person's wand. If she were to be alive Kennedy bet she'd like it.
He piled his notes and stuffed them into his bag-pack. Then he casted the Scourgify spell on the table to make sure that it was as clean as he had found it. After making sure everything was in placed he took both his wand and his "little" person's wand and left.

| Post #4 Length & Getting Supplies Dalliesa | Ab-Bot | Hogwarts Trojan War |
Now came the next and last step of defining the wand; Determining its length and flexibility. Louisa stared down at the Length column that she drew in class. She chose to do 11 inches for Merope's wand, the girl wasn't very powerful in casting spells so a short wand would've been quite hard for her to handle. And with that, the Ravenclaw closed all the books, returned what she'd borrowed from the table and stuffed her own in her bag.
Here came the practical part of the assignment. Louisa went forward where many types of wood laid on a long counter for the students to choose from. She'd decided on Ash wood which should be in the beginning of the line had they been aligned alphabetically - oh, yes, she cared about organizing. Walking few steps and reading the plaques, her mouth twitched into a small smile as she reached for the Ash wood.
Moving on to the core, the Ravenclaw moved to the other table and started searching for her two cores; Acromantula web and Basilisk skin. Finding them in the last of the line, she had no idea how to fetch some without touching them with her hand, being paranoid and all. The girl pulled her sleeve to cover her hand and then grabbed a bunch of Acromantula web followed by a piece of Basilisk skin. As time was passing, Louisa was changing her mind about core decision.
Anyway, she was back at her table with all the supplies needed. With her wand in her hand, she laid it next to the Ash wood trying to measure an exact 11 inches, which should be around an inch shorter than her own. "Diffindo," she murmured. A chuck of the Ash wood was cut off, Louisa held the two wands and looked at them straight. Yep, it was an inch. Almost.
And then came the hardest part, mending the cores inside the wood. Louisa took her time staring between the skin and web to the wood reaching a firm decision that she would never be a wandlorer if she had to work with delicate subjects like a spider web. Heh.

Sky started off by cutting the wood she'd selected to the correct length using "Diffindo!"
Hmm… 11 and half inches. Still a little long. She used "Diffindo!" again. 10 1/4 inches. Perfect. Using "Defodio!" she gouged a hole in what would be the bottom of the wand. She tried to put the unicorn hair into the hole. Key word, tried. It was a bit like threading a needle when sewing. After about twenty tries, Sky finally got the core in the wand. She cast a quick "Reparo!" on the wand so that the core wouldn't fall out and moved on to the next step.

| Post #5 Working more on the wand & cleaning Dalliesa | Ab-Bot | Hogwarts Trojan War |
The wand needed to be carved inside to fit the cores in, and for that the Ravenclaw used, " Defodio," just like anybody else in the room. Tracing her wand along the Ash wood piece, a long uneven cut was formed but it was good enough for her. She held the Acromantula web with the tip of her wand and placed it on top of the Ash wood then with her wand, too, she shoved the web inside the cut crumpling it to fit inside completely.
The Basilisk skin had to be touched, though, and with as little space as she could. She used Diffindo once again to cut the skin into two pieces before using more severing charm to cut narrow long pieces out of each part. After that she placed the narrow long skins on top of the cut in the Ash wood and with a sticking spell, " Lentesco" & the cores were safely steady in the wood piece.
" Reparo," and the Ash wood mended again, a tiiiny part of the Basilisk skin was visible from both tips of the wood but Louisa was oblivious to this imperfect mending spell. " Glisseo," Louisa uttered to smooth out the Ash wood.
Once finished with this, she held the forged wand and did a jabbing move with it. Hmm. Not quite flexible. She'd call it sturdy.
Louisa slung her bag over her shoulder and stuffed the new wand in the outer pocket while holding her own, " Scourgify," the tiny pieces of cores and wood produced by charms work disappeared leaving a clean workplace. She didn't want Scabior deducting another ten points for unseen dirty on his tables.

Seeing as she was more than just 'a little late' in getting started, Sierra hurried into the History of Magic Reference Room. She had a bag slung over her shoulder and a quill and parchment already out and in her hands. She put her materials on a desktop then began searching the room for books that would help her. After a while, she headed back to the desk, an armload of books in her hand. She sat down and flipped through the first one until she came to the woman she was looking for:
Eileen Prince.
For some reason, the woman was mainly known by her maiden name in all the books Sierra had read. True to pattern, this book referenced her by her maiden name, as well. Sierra skimmed down the page, taking note of facts that may help her. Known to be a Pure-blood
Most likely a Slytherin
Married a Muggle
Was good at sports (Gobstones)
Argued with husband
Neglected her son
Gave the look of having a 'sour face'
Hmm. That at least gave Sierra a start.

| Post #5- Making the Wand Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna So he had done the research...he had picked out his supplies ...now all Gideon had to do was actually make the wand. He checked his notes on the actual assignment to see if Professor Scabior had given specific instructions on what to do but none were given so he'd need to go by what he knew on charms and such. First things first, his twig was too long in his opinion, so after eyeing where he figured it should end, he took out his own wand. "Diffindo!" he cast with the slashing movement cutting a few inches from the end. It was a little rough at the tip but he could work it out later on.
Placing his wand on the table top knowing he'd be using it again soon enough, Gideon glanced between the thick twig and feathers and back trying to figure out how to get one inside the other like he suspected wand makers might. Although they were usually hollow anyway. he obviously needed to cut into his wood so he paused in thought for a couple of minutes for the best idea finally coming up with something that could work. "Flipnsnipwitit," he cast, using a karate chop though doing his best to focus on the spell evenly along the whole length of the wood. It took a few attempts but eventually the twig was successfully got in half.
The Gryffindor then switched to the gouging spell to give some room for the makeshift core. For this he had hold the half rounds one at a time carefully and straight on their rounded sides while he worked. "Defodio," he cast, digging out some of the interior of each side of his twig. "Defodio." That seemed to do the trick and Gideon soon had the two halves ready to be filled. Rolling the feathers a little to make them narrower, he laid them down inside one half before setting the other side on top. "Now to fix them back together..." he mused quietly with a hand to his chin as he thought...a simple mending charm should do the trick. "Reparo!" he cast dragging it along the cracks as he focused the spell as best he could sealing the wand together once more. Gideon couldn't help smiling as everything seemed to be working out and his make-believe wand was looking half-way decent at least. With an added "Glisseo," he smoothed out the wood simply for appearance sake before picking it up and giving the would-be wand a playful wave. Quite happy with the progress, the Gryffindor cleaned up his work and put both wands safe and securly in his pocket before leaving the room to head back to the tower to finish his write up of the project.

Alright, ...so that was enough research, Sierra thought. She at least had enough information to get a good idea of what sort of person Eileen Prince was. She peered down at her notes and reread them as a sort of review of what she'd learned: Known to be a Pure-blood
Most likely a Slytherin
Married a Muggle
Was good at sports (Gobstones)
Argued with husband
Neglected her son

Hmm. So now to figure out the core, wood, length, and flexibility. Sierra roamed around the room and picked out four different books--one for each of the wand parts she needed to figure out. First, she began with the core. There were five known types, so all she needed to do now was figure out which one best suited Eileen. Veela hair and thestral hair seemed high unlikely, so Sierra marked those two off her notes. Unicorn hair did, too, as those with that particular core were said to be less likely to turn to the dark arts. Eileen didn't seem to fit that. So with two left to go, and one of them being the core to Harry Potter's wand, Sierra decided to go with Dragon heartstring.
There were lots and lots of different types of wood that could be used for a wand, so Sierra set to work reading through each of them and deciding which she thought would best suit Eileen. In the end, she went with Yew, as it was said to be highly poisonous and reminded Sierra of how Eileen's actions had poisoned the fate in her son in so many ways. Sierra couldn't find much about wand lengths, but she did find a chart detailing lengths of some famously known witches and wizards. It seemed to her that the larger sized wands mainly belonged to the men, while the smaller wands--nine inches on up to twelve inches--belonged to the women. Sierra decided to go for an in-between number and jotted down ten and a half inches. Finally, she needed to figure out the flexibility of Eileen's wand. Looking at her notes, she recalled where Eileen and her husband argued frequently. She imagined there was a fair amount of dueling going on, and so she opted for a flexibility that would help in dueling. Unyielding sounded about right, so she jotted that down, as well.
...and with that, she'd planned out the wand. Core: Dragon heartstring
Wood: Yew
Length: 10.5"
Flexibility: Unyielding

Tori finished reading the book about wand flexibility and slammed it shut with a satisfied sigh. Right. She read over her notes on the wand and its flexibility and then picked up her wand, swishing it around for funsies.
Then she brought it back over to the table where she had gotten it from and dropped it on the table with a big thud. DONE DONE DONE! Tori whistled to herself and skipped out of the room happily.

Let's see...she'd researched Eileen Prince as much as humanly possible, and then she'd studied the different parts of a wand to figure out which would make up the perfect wand for Eileen Prince. Yup. She had enough information to get started on making the wand. She headed up to the front of the room and looked through the materials the professor had provided. She couldn't just choose any twig. Her version of Eileen's wand was meant to be unyielding. She picked up a few and experimented with the way they bent...or didn't bend, for that matter. Finally she found a particularly long twig that she thought would best represent Eileen's unyielding wand.
So that took care of the 'flexibility' part. With her new twig--err..wand--in hand, Sierra made her way back to the area she'd been working in. She needed to work on the size of the twig. It was definitely not a representation of the 10.5" wand she'd determined. She pointed her wand toward the twig and made a slashing motion right where she wished for it to be cut. "Diffindo!" she said. The piece fell off right where she'd slashed. The twig still wasn't 10.5" inches, though. Sierra used her finger to estimate where she'd need to cut to make the wand the right size. When that was determined, she once again pointed her wand toward the twig and made a slashing motion. "Diffindo!"
...and now the wand was as close to the exact size as she could get it.
Flipnsnipwitit, that ridiculous sounding spell Bentley had taught them, had to come into play somewhere, though. Sierra studied the twig to figure out what the spell might help her with. Well, she could always loosen some of he bark. Hmm...

Sky had no idea how to make the wand any degree of flexible. But then again, Flitwick had to be pretty stubborn, right? So wouldn't that mean his wand was unyielding? Sky went with that thought and forgot about the flexibility. She cast "Glisseo!" and watched as the wand became smooth. Now that's done… Where's the trashcan? She found one in the corner of the room and pulled it to the desk she'd been working at. She brushed the wood scraps into the trashcan and pulled it back where she'd found it. Hurriedly, she grabbed her freshly made wand and the notebook with her research and shoved them into her bag. She grabbed her actual wand and shoved it in her pocket. Slinging her (zipped) bag over shoulder, Sky walked out of the room to work on the rest of her final.

Yup, loosen then bark. That's what she could do with that ridiculous sounding spell. Whoever invented flipnsnipwitit anyway? Could they not have chosen a Latin word? Anyway... Sierra wasn't sure if the spell would solve the problem of the bark being all over her 'wand', but it couldn't hurt to give it a try. It'd be way easier than pulling the bark off by hand, at least.
So with a swish of her wand, she said, "Flipnsnipwitit!" To her surprise, the bark was sliced right off the twig. Hmm... She felt silly saying the incantation, but if it worked, it worked. "Flipnsnipwitit!" she said, over and over again until the bark was free from the wand. ...but now the wand was all bumpy. Sierra frowned at it and wondered what she could do to solve that issue. Surely there was a spell somewhere...
Then she remembered the Glisseo spell they'd gone over not too long ago. It was supposed to make things smooth and slippery, like a slide. She aimed her wand at the uneven parts of the twig. "Glisseo!" she said, causing the wand to get smoother and smoother. "Glisseo!" she said again.
Sierra peered over her notes once again: Known to be a Pure-blood

She'd taken care of the wood part of the wand...as well as the length. The wand was also trimmed free of bark and made to be smoother. So what was left to do? She looked down at the wand. Oh, ...right. She needed to add the core and then make the wood a bit more unyielding.

Scrambling to get to this room she'd never heard of before, probably because she never really took History of Magic seriously, Evelyn huffed a sigh as she stopped in the doorway, eying everything in sight. Oh snaps, look at all the books!
Adjusting her school bag on her shoulder that held all of her notes, the Slytherin walked in and looked for a seat to create this wand. Creating...a...wand! She'd never done that before. At least three dimensional. Writing things down on paper and drawing wands didn't count. Not when you had a bunch of wand cores right in front of you that could be used. Her previous inspiration for a career choice was starting show up again. Wandmaking in history of magic! How cool was THAT!?
Too cool.
Letting her bag drop on a random table, she sat down in the seat and started pulling out all her notes about the "little" person she chose as well as notes on all different kinds of wand woods, cores, and the length that she could find. Since she was kinda late in doing this assignment, she didn't have time to look up 'flexibility' stuff and just had to go off class notes.
Alright! Time to do this thing!

Sierra reread the information she'd gathered, taking note of the fact, once again, that all she needed to do now was add in the core and then make the wand a bit more unyielding. Add in the core... Hmm. How in the name of Merlin was she meant to stuff a dragon heartstring into this twig?! Scabs was mental.
...unless. Wasn't there a spell they'd been taught that would hollow out the center of the wand? Sierra tapped her fingers silently on the table before her while she thought about the spell. Finally, she picked up the twig and aimed her wand right toward the end of it. "Defodio!" she said. The end of the wand sort of caved in as the hollow space was created. Sierra peered through the hole, deciding that yes, it was big enough for her to stuff the dragon heartstring inside. She put the wand down and went to the front to retrieve a dragon heartstring out of the container. Once she had it in her hand, she headed back to her wand to begin putting the core inside.
She laid the dragon heartstring carefully into the hollow area, making double sure it wasn't wadded up or about to tear. When she was satisfied with it, she stood back and looked at her creation. Well, she couldn't just leave the ends open like that, could she? Hmm...

Spreading out her notes in front of her on the table in an organized and neat manner, she smiled and sat up straight, glancing from parchment to parchment. Perhaps it would've been easier if she just listed down exactly what wand she was going to make for this person, but alas, she had no time.
Besides, everything was here anyhow, and she just needed to quickly review everything. Elfrida Clagg. While her attempts to change the classifications of Beings and Beasts weren't all that interesting to the Slytherin girl, the fact that the woman had made the snidgets a protected species and outlawed their hunting and quidditch uses was really what made everything just 'Pop'. Practically changed the history of quidditch all by herself! There wasn't much on the personality of the Chieftainess of the Wizards' Council but from what Evelyn could tell, she was ambitious and her heart was in the right place. Or something like that. There may have been something about 'thinking outside of the box' and whatnot but...
Everything about that just screamed Unicorn Hair core in her opinion. Maybe that was just because it sound Huffie-ish, and she also though unicorns were Huffie-ish.
Moving onto her notes on all the wand woods she thought would have been suitable for this person, her eyes scanned the words, trying to figure out which would have been best. There seriously was not much to go by for this Elfrida Clagg. Elm and Chesnut had crossed her mind, but there was another she thought was more suitable. The English Oak, she found out, was one that needed strength and courage, and was a rather loyal wood itself if made into a wand. Their owners were apparently intuitive as well as a likeness for the natural world and it's magical presence.
Leaning back in her seat, the Slytherin girl thought about it for a moment, rolling over the details in her mind as she tried to picture it all. Well, wand wood and core seemed to be done, how were they supposed to decide the length and flexibility?

...and with that, there were only two things left for Sierra to do. She needed to seal the ends of the wand and then make the wand a little more unyielding. It was already pretty strong, but maybe she could find a charm to get it as close to an unyielding wand as she could.
She strolled to the front of the room and chose a rather small twig. It looked too small to use as a wand, so it was perfect to use to seal the ends of the one she'd made. Once back at her work area, Sierra set to work cutting off pieces that would fit as plugs for the ends of the wand. "Diffindo!" she said, cutting off the pieces. She experimented with the pieces several different times until she ended up with two pieces that fit just right. She plugged them into the open ends of the wand then raised her real wand toward the ends of the fake wand. "Fixate!" she said, using the Fixing Charm to seal the first end. She turned the wand around and pointed her real wand toward the next end. "Fixate!" she said again. A check to both ends of the wand showed Sierra that the plugs she'd put in to seal the wand were in fact fixed in and unable to be pulled out. The very last thing she needed to do now was make the wand a little more unyielding. With a swish and a flick and an exclamation of the Hardening Spell, the wand began to stiffen just a little. She'd already chosen a pretty sturdy twig, so that had helped a lot.
...and with that, Sierra was completely finished with Eileen Prince's wand. Now, time to go complete part three of the final, and she was good to go.

Getting up, Evelyn went over to find the particular wood she needed. She knew what oak wood looked like, though was english oak wood different from it? Trying to remember what it looked like, the Slytherin ruled out a lot of the woods down to two. Alas, she hopefully chose the correct kind. Finally taking one unicorn hair, she went back to the table she was working at and sat down. Time to start.
The length, she figured, would have been somewhere around eleven and a half. Why that number, she had no clue, but it sounded pretty good. Taking out her own wand, she held it against the wood so she was able to measure it. Hers was ten and a third long, so this wand wouldn't be much bigger.
Keeping an eye on the measurements, she quickly "Diffindo"d both ends so she was left was a wand sized twig, though it still looked like...a twig. She thought perhaps using diffindo to at least fix the outside. But alas, another popped up in her mind that would have been much more useful. The tongue twister of a spell that almost cost her a letter grade for her Herbology OWL. "Flipsnipwitit." Thank Merlin she'd had practice since then though. Still a tongue twister though.
Repeating the spell until the outside was considerably less bumpy and looked to have had the effect of the bark being sanded off, she thought about making designs in the wand, but...no. She didn't have time. "Defodio." she muttered, creating a nice hole in the end of the wand. How else was she supposed to get the core in there? Wrap it around the outside?
Carefully placing the unicorn hair inside of the wand, she stared at the open end, thinking. Well this was a bummer. Taking one of the end trig pieces that was discarded, she cut off a smaller piece, trying to get it the right size to fit the hole. FIT! Darnit. She still had to write another essay, and this was taking forever. Finally obtaining the right size, she held her wand pointed at the end, and traced around it. "Adhaero." Sticking charm...for the win. "Glisseo." Smoothing out the rest of the wood, she beamed and placed the finished product on the table in front of her. Done! Right? She was done. It wasn't particularly detailed, but one could see that it was a wand. Sorta. As she had worked on it though, the thought of the flexibility had come in mind. At first, the idea of a flexible wand sounded best, yet as she thought about it, a sturdy wand sounded better. And that was not because then she could skip trying to make the wood more 'flexible' and be done quicker either.
Cleaning off the table and packing up her notes, she stood up, ready to leave. The faster she did, the faster she could get other stuff done!
