Eat, drink, and be merry, O Lions. Classes begin again tomorrow.
The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.
And what's this? The silverware is tarnished and askew, almost as if thrust on the table willy-nilly. Take a seat and search for a clean spoon while the Sorting Hat ceremony commences. The House Elves have done their clean up work quickly and effectively, and the silverware and dishes are now set to right.

If only he knew how Slytherin his thoughts were.
The hat was removed from his head and he stood, and with his shoulders hunched, and his hands in his pockets, he swaggered (yes swaggered, which was slightly amusing given the lad's height and age: he looked just like a mini Freddie) his way over to the house with the red banners and lions, eyes narrowing on his as housemates his gaze swept across the table to look at them all. There woz blaady loads of 'em!
Would he fit in at all?
...Did he care?
Of course the lad cared. He was the same as all the other kids here: just wanting to be accepted and some friends. A task which may be easier said than done...
Tom wasn't the most gracious of people. He didn't really LOOK like anyone else here. His head was shaved and he had a slightly deprived look about him. His robes were tattier than the other kids who looked rosy cheeked and well groomed and fed. And to top it off, he was a late bloomer. Thirteen years of age and he'd only just got his invite to Hogwarts. Acceptance would be harder for him than for most of the first years who were all in the same boat.
He took a seat towards the top end of the table nearest the door to the Great Hall. He gave the person next to him a small, awkward smile before his eyes went to the food. Blaady 'ell! They could just eat as much as they wanted!? He quickly reached out for a plate, more interested now in the food than the other kids.
Wot to 'av first?
See now THIS was where Dylan had belonged and where Gwenyth wanted to be right now. They seemed a lot friendlier bunch, more welcoming but that might have only been because Gwen was swayed by the stories she had heard. Give the Slytherins a chance and she might actually grow to love them. Maybe..
She wandered past the Gryffindors, not intent on stopping, just wanting to be closer to a house where her brother had been. But she'd of felt a little odd if she just sat down there, she knew no one and they'd probably give her funny looks for being there. She didn't 'belong' afterall. The hat had placed her elsewhere.
But her eyes fell upon a familiar face, or rather it was the hair that had caught her initially. Not many people had that haircut and from their very brief meeting in Diagon Alley. She planned on just leaving, walking straight over to her table and perhaps he wouldn't notice. He seemed more content looking around at the other students anyway.
However, there was definitely something about him that made her want to stay. Maybe it wasn't him, maybe it was simply because she longed to be in Gryffindor but she just couldn't leave.
Instead she cleared her throat, quietly and a little pathetically. Like she was an ant coughing for attention. "H-hi" she stuttered as she stood behind him awkwardly. Nope. She wouldn't sit down.

"How's Walnut? Still causing trouble?" she asked with a grin, remembering the charming little cat. "And hey, what's on your chest? That badge?"
Kurumi laughed. "Might want t avoid taking him to class as well," she said. At least, it had been a mild disaster the few times that Walnut had also appeared in class with Kurumi. He and the crup puppy hadn't exactly gotten along, but it could have been a lot worse.
And speaking of the stubby legged feline.
"He tried to pee on someone in the prefect compartment," Kurumi sighed, hanging her head slightly. She knew a certain Gryffindor that deserved the fate almost as much as the Hufflepuff boy did. Maybe it was the natural instinct that came with living on a council housing estate where you had to watch your back at all times that caused Tom to sense someone behind him before they even spoke. He turned just as she greeted him in a stutter and he smiled in response. A relieved smile. He KNEW someone here. Sort of.
“Ello.” He greeted. Did he even know her name? If he did, he'd forgotten it. “I saw you get sor'ed. Slytherin ain' it?” So she was what Thomas should have been according to his brother. He looked her up and down and then shrugged. He wasn't sure what a Slytherin was supposed to look like anyway.
“You jus' gonna stand there?” He asked her in his thick cockney accent. “...Cos you can sit, y'know? I don't know no one 'ere neevah.”
Josephine had been laughing with Maxwell and Joseph, her brother when she found a familiar face "Anne! Hello, I'm Josephine we met at Madame Malkins, remember?" God she hoped the other girl remembered, she was so tired of being the only girl between two boys.
Maxwell was very busy stuffing his face, he was almost sure he had eated more than everyone else at the table...he was also pretty sure some hufflepuffs were staring. maybe, he thought he should stop. Maxwell tore himself away from eating. "Hello, I'm Maxwell. it's nice to meet You Anne."

Jackie walked over to the Gryffindor House Table. It was huge. The kids there looked friendly too, but all seemed busy. She quietly sat at an empty table and looked at the Sorting Ceremony, since she didn't have anything else to do.

"Hey, come sit over here!" Ella practically shouted at the girl who had just sat down.

Maybe she could just run now. He'd only said hello and she could make some excuse because.. The boy was incredibly intimidating for a girl who was so used to the sheltered and friendliness of the Commune where she knew everyone and they all knew her. He. Well he was the complete opposite of the kids there. Plus he had a thick accent and so did she and it would get very confusing after a while.
But she stayed. She stood and smiled weakly back at him, gulping and then moving forward to sit in the spot he had just left her. "Umm.. Thank you" she glanced quickly at him and then across the table.
Oh goodness he knew she was a Slytherin? "Y-yeah.." she looked down at the floor, rather like she was ashamed. Was she? Or was she just not expecting it. "I don't think I belong there though" the thirteen year old frowned.
"Y-you're a Gryffindor?" she asked rather obviously. No he was just sat here for no apparent reason. "I wish I was here" she pouted a little.

"So your brother also came here?" Ella said sliding along the bench a bit.
"My brother had just finished his studies at Hogwarts and now he is working for the Ministry of Magic,"Tiffany replied."He was the leader of Quiddtich team when he was at his fifth grade and that's why I want to get into the team."She was proud of her brother. She turned to Ella and asked,"What about you? Do you have any siblings? And would you like some?" She pointed at the scones."They are delicious!"
"Quidditch sounds fun! I can't wait till our first flying lesson!! I have an older sister but she's a muggle. I always though magic was something that was fictional. Go on then." Ella said grabbing a scone.

Sarah smiled widely as she made her way through the crowd to the Gryffindor table. Here! Finally back to Hogwarts. She walked past the long row and settled in the midst of some students. She looked around, hoping to get a glimpse of Will, Nika, Rose or anyone she knew. Hopefully.

Jackie looked at the girl who had almost shouted at her. Well, good it was just in a friendly way. She would've freaked if the first greeting to her in school wasn't good.
She went and sat beside the friendly looking girl. 'Hello,' Jackie said shyly. 'I'm Jackie.'

Thomas didn't notice the fear radiating from the young girl. Maybe he was used to such reactions (he did have a certain look about him which made you think he might mug your granny).. or maybe he was just completely oblivious. He didn't really think he was intimidating at all. As he looked her up and down, he noted she had a certain look about her. She seemed sort of hippy from the accessories in her hair.. and last time he'd seen her when she was in her everyday clothes, she was incredibly hippy.
She was pondering whether or not to sit and Tom frowned. Did he smell? Did he have some cockroach cluster on his face? ...He had NO idea they had real cockroaches in them when he scoffed them on the train earlier. He was almost sick when someone informed him later.
He smiled when she eventually sat. Was she ashamed of being a Slytherin. “It can't be tha' bad.” He said. “Me bruvvah woz a Slytherin.” So., yeah.. it must have been a pretty good house, because Freddie was cool. “I dun' fink tha' talkin' 'at would've putchah there if it fought you wozn't gonnah fit in there.” Because the hat was maaagic.. and clearly knew better than Gwen did.
He nodded his head. “Yeah.” He smiled broadly. “Fought I would be a snake meself, bu'..” He merely shrugged. "You're 'ere naow ainchah?"
“Ere, you not avin' anyfin' to eat?” He asked the girl, picking up a cupcake and waving it under her nose.

Gideon had finally made it to the feast, having wound up in one of the later carriages making its way up to the castle. Guess it was punishment for not moving fast enough as he exited the middle cars. Oh well he was here now and the feast had thankfully not officially begun.
The fourth year made his way to the Gryffindor table, his gaze briefly landing on the front of the room where the stool and sorting hat rested. He paused in his movements to watch a sorting before taking a seat at one end of the table. Looking around he didn't readily spot any of his newfound acquaintances so Gideon simply settled in to wait for the headmaster's speech.
Nathan had just been sorted and really could not easilly find his freinds amongst the bunch of so many Gryffindors. He was not sure if he should introduce himself to people or wait and see if they noticed him. He was not sure who the people were on his side of the table so he decided to give a general hi to all, "Hi all, it is my 1st year here and I would love to get to know each and every one of you.". He tried, now all that was keft to do is wait to see if anyone would respond. In the mean time the cookies looked good. He began to pile some on his plate when he noticed cobwebs had made a home there. Ewe Eh, it's not that bad and with that Nathan began to eat cookies with the Gryffindor logo etched into them. A delicious treat to start his years at Hogwarts

Kurumi continued to make her way around the table, charming more cookies when needed and just trying to let the wave of rage from earlier completely wash away. Was she proud of her actions, perhaps not, but it had been two years of pent up rage and emotion that had all been released in a matter of milliseconds.
Nodding to a few more first years, Kurumi spotted Gideon and a smile reappeared on her face. FINALLY a boy who clearly had some sense in his skull.
"Gideon!" she chirped. "You made it."

Hayley had just been sorted into Gryffindor, and as she walked to the table, she smiled at the amount of people there, there seemed to be a real age span, everyone looked so lovely! Wanting to make some friends, she went and sat next to some younger looking people about her age and said "Hello!" shyly.

Her fishtails were definitely a lot more interesting then anything else was. She sat awkwardly, twirling her very long plaits in her fingers and then removing a flower only to put it back in again. The hair didn't quite go with the uniform. She was much more at home in florals and printed T-Shirts than she was in long black robes. She was quite looking forward to changing back into her normal clothes so she felt comfortable. Although that would probably make her feel like she doesn't belong even more. She expected a lot of the students would be in designer and she would be second hand clothes or hand me downs, but she loved them.
Gwen shuffled awkwardly in her seat glancing around worriedly at the other students. She was scared that they'd shout at her or something because she was at the 'wrong' table. That she didn't belong there and that she should go back to her own table. And she didn't want the attention drawn to her, she'd rather just sit there anonymously and have no one notice her. Worst way to make friends, something she had a talent of back in the commune but that was because everyone was equal. She wasn't used to this house business. "You have something on your face" she whispered but couldn't help but giggle, only to realise what she was doing and stopped.
O___________O
"They're supposed to be mean" she pouted glancing at him. "I'm not mean, I'm the compete opposite" For goodness sake, she was a hippy. "Was he?" she asked as he told her about his brother. "Is he nice?" Because that might make a difference. At least then she'd know that the rumours weren't exactly true. "It might have got it wrong though. Everyone makes mistakes, maybe it did too" she told him, staring at the hat and then over to the Slytherin table where she had sat only moments ago. "And what does it know about me?" Did it read her mind because that would be scaaary. "It didn't take in what I wanted to be in. My brothers said it would" she shook her head.
"I mean I want to be in this house" she looked down at the table again, hanging her head. It took her a while to realise she wasn't stuttering. She was nervous though. "But I don't think I'm brave enough" Because there were a lot of things that scared her.
Then suddenly he was wafting a cake under her nose and she pulled away from it. "No thank you" she stated looking at it. Did the house elves make that? Poor things. "I'm not really hungry" And those plates were very dirty. Who knew what was put into the food.
Hayley had just been sorted into Gryffindor, and as she walked to the table, she smiled at the amount of people there, there seemed to be a real age span, everyone looked so lovely! "Neither can I!" interrupted Joaquin. "I can't wait 'till we're second year and we can get our own broom and tryout for the team" he exclaimed while grabbing the turkey leg.
Sage had just walked over to the Gryffindor table and took her seat looking for a fellow first year to talk to, most of the people she had met on the train had been sorted into different houses....

As August sat down on one of the long benches placed at the Gryffindor table, he eyed the utensils they were supposed to use to eat. "Ummm, who washed these?" he pushed his spoon and fork away from himself and switched them with a cleaner pair from a empty seat across from him. There that was better.
Now he just needed to meet some new Gryffindor friends. Out of the few he had met over in Diagon Alley, none of them were in the house he was just sorted into.
"Hello! Yes I am! Are you? Im Hayley!" Hayley smiled at the girl.
Saged nodded enthusiastically at Hayley. It was nice to meet a first year Gryffindor, she was kind of nervous about meeting new people...
Yup! I just got sorted! Can you beleive this place! It's huge, my brother told me about how big it was but I was never expecting this!" Sage said, attempting to start a sonversation with Hayley.
