Eat, drink, and be merry, O Lions. Classes begin again tomorrow.
The glittering night sky is clear and visible through the enchanted ceiling, and the floating candles bedeck the entire hall in a warm golden light. All seems well with the world, aside from the empty plates still waiting for food to appear.
And what's this? The silverware is tarnished and askew, almost as if thrust on the table willy-nilly. Take a seat and search for a clean spoon while the Sorting Hat ceremony commences. The House Elves have done their clean up work quickly and effectively, and the silverware and dishes are now set to right.
Adelyn tried not to laugh at the way the little first year's face had blushed; Adelyn still did that. "It's okay. I'm short, so I usually get mistaken for someone younger."
"Welcome to Gryffindor! No matter what anyone tells you, this is the best house." She smiled brightly at the girl. "My name is Adelyn, by the way."
"Thanks!" Sage said, "I'm Sage, and my older brother said the same thing about Gryffindor!"
"It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not."

"Yes, that I am," Adam said with a chuckle, moving over slightly so that there was room for Louisa to fit in. He hoped that Paulie didn't mind, but honestly Louisa didn't really take up much space on the bench. "Yeah...it looks like I won't be seeing the Ravenclaw Common Room after all," Adam said with a little frown. From what he heard people weren't allowed in the common rooms of houses that weren't their own. "I just hope you'll still be willing to associate yourself with a Gryffindor," Adam said, in a mock-concerned way.
Upon Louisa's comments about the silverware Adam picked up his spoon and looked at it. "I believe the word is rustic," Adam said with a little chuckle. "Perhaps they're just trying to make us feel like we're living in the castle during the time when it was first built and they used...rusty spoons," Adam said, setting the spoon down and giving Louisa a little smirk. Adam noted a vibe in Louisa that made him feel like maybe she was avoiding the Ravenclaw table.
"So...um...how are you doing?" Adam asked, lowering his voice incase she wanted to talk and didn't want all these random people overhearing. "Have you run into the pair yet?"

..wait! Did that mean she had to attend every single Quidditch game throughout the term?! O__o If every team had a friend of her, she was obliged to attend and cheer and all that. Oh, shoot! "D-do you still want to try out for Gryffindor Quidditch team?" She asked trying to sound so casual. Maybe he had something against the Gryffindor quidditch team that he wouldn't try out? Hmm...? Please..? Naaah, he barely knew this school anyways he definitely would still try out. Hmph.
Rustic...? Louisa looked confused, "No. I'm pretty sure they're rusty." Taking a goblet and examining it, "Eew. They're dirty, actually." She threw the cup loudly on the table and it rolled away...somewhere. When he suggested that they made it on purpose, she laughed. "That's just... man, you can be funny Adam!" She grinned. Wha? Louisa heard a squeaking like sound from somewhere and she spotted a little house elf, talking to herself, and hitting her head with a plate. It was the first time Louisa ever saw a house elf, let alone one that was punishing herself. So they weren't on some kind of a riot as she supposed. They weren't banished either. Good to know, she didn't like the idea of her taking care of the hygiene of the castle when she had loads to study.
...why did this house elf keep punishing herself? The clean silverware were shining again before the students. When the house elf was close enough to hear, Louisa spoke to her, "Hey, hey, hey... Thank you. They're really clean and perfect now. You can stop that." She pointed at the goblet in her hand...what if she grabbed a knife next? :O Louisa wasn't going to sit around and watch her slay herself. Why didn't the headmaster stop them from punishing themselves anyway? Wasn't he the one responsible for them?
Adam gave Louisa a little smile at being able to handle a single Gryffindor. With all the people in the Great Hall, it was starting to get a little toasty in this heavy black robe, but Adam figured he couldn't really take the robes off...after all that kind of seemed just as bad as remove a suit jacket during a black tie party. "That is quite an accomplishment," Adam said, his eyebrows going up slightly. "I seem to have managed friends from Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, but none from Slytherin," Adam said, biting his lower lip. Well...if the stereotypes about Slytherin were true then maybe that wasn't such a bad thing.
Adam saw a nervous look of realization play across Louisa's face, although Adam wasn't entirely sure as to what the realization was that had her seeming nervous. Oh..Quidditch..."I...uh...haven't really decided about that yet," Adam said with a chuckle. "I'll probably wait and see how I settle in first before I think about trying out." Adam wanted to play on the team, but at the same time he was bummed that if he made the team he would have to play against Ellie.
Adam couldn't help but laugh as Louisa threw a dirty goblet across the table, the cup bouncing off the table and onto the floor. "I guess I was just trying to be optimistic about the whole thing," he said with another shrug. He was glad he had gotten Louisa laughing but the moment was cut off when they both spotted the House Elf hitting itself. As Louisa tried to tell the creature to stop, Adam gave a nod and a little smile, hoping that maybe that would encourage it to stop punishing herself.
"It's really awful isn't it? The way they abuse themselves for making mistakes...from what I hear there's not really much anyone can do to make them stop, it's just in their nature." Adam finished the statement with a frown...house elves took being hard on themselves to a new extreme.

"There are some nice Slytherins." I hope, she added in her head. "Once classes begin, you'll meet enough." And she liked the idea of him settling down first. "I think that's a great idea. I'll be supporting you anyways." She added forcing herself to be optimistic about Quidditch- maybe it wasn't a boring game as she thought it was?
Looking sadly at all the house elves thwacking themselves, she agreed with him, "Yes. I mean I find it really practical that they have a very sensitive conscience. You know, they won't mess up as much. But hitting themselves...that's a bit too much.[/b]" She glanced around to the headmaster, "Isn't he their master in a way? Can't he stop them?" Adam gave a little nod of the head. He was sure that there were at least a couple of nice ones in the house...surely not all Slytherins fit the house stereotype. "Are you excited for classes to start?" Adam asked, figuring that Louisa would be since she enjoys reading so much. "I'm kind of excited to meet the Professors and learn what we're going to be doing this term."
Adam turned and looked at one of the house elves that had walked by, hitting itself rather forcefully with what appeared to be a tray. "Yeah...everyone makes mistakes, and an honest mistake like this certainly does call for the creatures hurting themselves like that." As Louisa mentioned the Headmaster Adam looked up to the staff table, trying to figure out which one was the headmaster. "I assume that Headmaster Tate is the one in the chair with the bigger back?" Adam asked Louisa, eyeing the man as he did so. He didn't seem like the kind of guy that that article had portrayed. "And I'm not sure...maybe he's waiting for everyone to settle down first, and then he'll start." Adam had to admit that he was starting to get hungry though. The two chocolate frogs on the train were the only thing he had eaten all day, mostly due to the fact that he was too anxious to keep anything down, but now that he was settling in he could definitely go for some food.

Sage starred at Ella for a long while before shaking her head. Silly things Muggles do...
"Well, how about we talk about something where we both can't get confused! What do you think of the Gryffindor House so far?" Sage asked looking up and down their table at the other Gryffindor students...
"It's amazing, everyone is sooo friendly. I have met loads of new people." Ella said trying to remember just how many people she had met in just one meal.

Excited? "I'm very happy to be back finally to study!" She made a dramatic move with her hand clasping on her chest. "You know this summer was..." An awful, disastrous, and very exhausting for her. "..not that good and sometimes I just think too much about things-" Things being 'people' here, "-I'd like to distract myself with study. I always did."
His next answer made it clear that he was eager to meet all the teachers so Louisa took the liberity of briefly introducing the staff for him, "Yes. The one sitting on the big chair is professor Tate. He looked even better when he's not... like this." He looked a bit grumpy. "The woman with dark hair and stern face is professor Lafay. She's the Potions mistress. She's a very good teacher." Louisa didn't care about anything that concerned teachers other than their professionalism. It was what connected students to teachers, right? So she had no interest in their personality whatsoever. "Let me see who else I know.. Oh! You see that lady sitting at the staff table and trying to hold a serious, careless attitude? That's Madam Donovan, the Librarian. I like her." Louisa added unnecessarily. The lady lived with books so how would Louisa not like her? Really? "Remember what I told you about the spirits before? Well, she's the star." Giggling at her choose of words, Louisa continued to stare and try to see any other teachers she knew.
"The blonde one to the right is professor Hadley the arthimancy professor. Very good and can be a bit enthusiastic about numbers." Louisa made a face before adding, "I don't really like the subject. It's boring." Yep, down right honest. "The beautiful blonde lady.." She inclined her head to one end of the staff table instead of pointing with her finger, "..is professor Bentley. She teaches Herbology and makes it a very interesting subject. I like the way she takes care of her skin, too." She added as an afterthought. "Professor Cerulean is next. She teaches Muggle Studies." Louisa's and Adam's -probably- easiest subject, "The homework she gives is very fun to do." Taking one more overall glance before leaning back, "Those are the ones from last year. The rest are new."
"It's amazing, everyone is sooo friendly. I have met loads of new people." Ella said trying to remember just how many people she had met in just one meal.
"I know! I can't wait for us to start classes and get are timetables! Oh and I really want to go to Hogsmeade!" Sage told Ella
"A lot of things I love. But most of all fruit salad." She smiled broadly and said "Than planning to do in the next few days?"
" Fruit sald is very good" William told her." Good that you are planiing to get know a lot about HogWarts in the next few days" Willaim said to her." Oh, what am I plannning?" William asked her sheepishly. " Hopefully go hang at the common room and the dorms for awhile" Willaim explained to her.

As Ariella was cleaning, she noticed a new first year chatting to someone at the table. She remembered when she was a first year - and how she hated it when the older students ignored her.
Wanting to be friendly, she decided to make conversation with the girl. "Hello! I'm Ariella. Ariella Adler - second year. Nice to meet you!" she exclaimed cheerfully, holding out her hand for the girl to shake it.
Suddenly, Anne heard someone. She turned backwards and saw an older looking student.
"Hello there! I'm Anne, Anne Hickinbotham. I'm a first year! Nice to meet you too, Ariella! Nice name by the way. Very unique." Anne said with a smile while shaking the girl's hand.

"I know! Hogsmeade?" Ella said. What could Hogsmeade be? A Lesson, it doesn't sound lessony maybe it's something else.
Sage brought her hand to her forehead and hit it lightly. She had completely forgotten that Ella was Muggleborn.
"Hogsmeade is a small town just outside of the Hogwarts borders, every weekend we take a visit if you have signed permission slip. They have the most amazing shops like Honeydukes and The Three Broomsticks and Joke shops!" Sage rambled slightly, telling Ella all the amazing things at Hogsmeade.
Josephine's emerald eyes sparkled "I love it! Everything! The ceiling! The food! The housemates! Everything is so awesome, what do you think about it?"
Jordan grinned, "It was a bit overwhelming at first, but it is so much better than I expected, and I expected it to be amazing! What lessons are you most excited for? I really want to start transfiguration and flying!"

I don't even think they've handed out the slilps, so nothing to worry about." Sage yawned. Today had really taken a lot out of her and she was ready for a good nights sleep, besides she was so stuffed, Sage was afraid she might explode if she ate one more bite!
"Yup, it's really good, my mum has brought some home before. I also have some of the Honeydukes sweets hidden under my pillow from when she visited Hogsmeade.." Sage trailed off, yawning once again.

"Wicked. I have some muggle sweets in my trunk, my mum told me to take some to share with my new friends. They are probably really boring compared to the sweets you have though. I had a chocolate frog on the train, I diddn't expect it to start leaping away, luckily I managed to catch it." She stopped there though because she was probably starting to get a bit boring. Maybe if she told Sage about muggle sweets another time it might be a bit more interesting.
