Moving quickly through the halls to avoid too much ruckus from the loud clacking of hooves against the stone, Thereos was grateful once he stepped outside onto the soft grass again.
"This way, students," he urged, leading to a wide open expanse.
Jesifur glanced down into the water, she saw the reflection of the sky, a few leaves from a nearby tree and the reflection of several of the rocks she had placed along the edges. She was however, quite a bit away from the bowl. She inched towards it careful not to knock into it. If she were to look directly into it from above then she wouls see some of the stones, a bit of sky and herself.
Jesifur raised her hand, "Sir, isn't it a matter of perspective? I mean to what we see in our bowls? If I were to look into it directly I would mostly see myself, but if I were a few inches away from it then I could no longer see myself and I see mostly reflections of the sky and surrounding trees and well as a few of the stones place along the edges of the bowl. I much prefer to see it the second way, from afar. I think it gives a better view..."

Relaxing his mind a bit before speaking, he nodded. "Right then. So you're almost ready. You have your bowl of water. When you look into water, there are good chances that you will see what exactly?"

"Er-if I do peeked on it, I would much likely see my face," sh answered. That was correct, right ? She would see her face along with the tiny details that may be visible in the water.
But what kept her wondering was the real purpose of the water and the stones. Beezus just keeps on forgetting what subject it was. Of course, they ought to be doing that kind of stuff. Oh, divination.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Daichi turned his head with a swift movement that he hurt his neck. Winching, he rubbed the back of his neck and listened in horror how the Professor took away fifteen points from Jonathan. And since he had been standing close by he had heard the question which made him thank who ever was out there that he hadn't asked it too because it had been on the tip of his tongue.
The second year looked away quickly before the new Professor could deduct points from him for staring or something and listened to the instructions. He nodded his head in understanding and grabbed one of the bowls and looked around for the stones. Grabbing the stones and placing them in his robe pocket, Daichi moved over towards the lake with small steps. He hadn't forgotten how he had almost drowned in it at the beginning of the year and being so close to it again made his heart pound. He knew he was lacking behind if he didn't hurry up but if the Professor took away points just because he was scared he was going to...he didn't know what...
As the bowl filled with water he turned back around to walk to the others. With careful steps because he didn't want to spill any water he placed the bowl on the ground and stacked the stones around the edges of the bowl like he had explained. Daichi stood up and looked at his masterpiece of art and smiled at himself before bowing over the bowl to look in to the water.
"Uhm..i see the sky , some trees and a owl..i think it was an owl, just flew by" He stared some more "..and my reflection..." He frowned at the last part though. "Everything is reflected actually" he really hoped he hadn't said anything wrong .
Louisa was standing before her bowl when she raised her hand, force of habit, and answered, "We see our faces!" Which were reflections of their real ones... she couldn't look at the water without seeing her face.

Relaxing his mind a bit before speaking, he nodded. "Right then. So you're almost ready. You have your bowl of water. When you look into water, there are good chances that you will see what exactly?"
Kimalia looked into the bowl of water to consider his question. There's a good chance I'll see my face for one. "Well, a reflection." Kimalia didn't add of her face though, seeing as he would probably take points off for smart remarks. She answered raising one hand, whilst having her other hand hold the bowl of water "since water can act as a mirror, but with enough concentration you can see below the water's surface past the reflection."
Lightly rubbing the temples of her head, she stared at the centaur professor, listening to what instructions he was giving. A bowl of water surrounded by rocks. How did any of that pertain to bird watching?
Nevertheless, she took a bowl, keeping close by in-case someone needed to have their duplicated as she searched for a few stones. Six of them was good, right? He said at least five to ten. Laying the stones carefully around the edge of the bowl like the professor said to do, she took out her wand and pointed it at the middle, before filling up the bowl with water. Oh, question.
Looking into the water for only a split moment, her gaze automatically turned up towards the sky. "The sky." she commented, frowning slightly. "Color, clouds...birds that pass over..." Might as well add in that part. She didn't know whether adding in 'ones reflection' would have...lost them points. It was a smart answer though!
"Yes... Birds that pass over..." Very object-oriented in what was seen in the water.

"It is a matter of perspective... Each of us, may see different things in the water, depending on the angle you're looking at it, yes." Thereos comment to the young one. Very much the heart of Divination . . . Perspectives, that is. "But that second thing you described, the generic term, is what I was hoping for. Reflections."

"Directly into it, yes, your own reflection." But how would that help them study flight patterns?

Right. Bowl. Stones. Birds.
...Could you read flight patterns of bats? She was too shy to ask, so Aspen just stuck to the directions given. She spent a few minutes digging out a little hole with her hands so her bowl would sit in the earth evenly, then easily filled the bowl with the Aguamenti spell.
"Reflections," she answered absently, already leaning this way and that to see different parts of the sky overhead reflected back at her.

"You all, are most correct." Well the first two more than the third, but he was still right. "Reflections of the sky. In particular, what we would be looking for is reflections cast from the birds, which if you look at it during the right time, from the right angle, you should see the water form a current in the flight pattern of that bird." It was an art really.
"I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't see that flight pattern today, but at some point over the next week or two, you likely will." Thereos explained. "Setting up your ... looking glass at various times of the day, will increase your likelihood. And depending on which flight pattern you see, might say something about the week you will have ... or something that might happen in the near future."
Was the class still with him or had he lost them? "Any questions?" Because he was open to them, in majority of cases.

As Nora was listening to Thereos, who was talking about things she couldn't quite understand (no, Divination was definitely not her best subject), she also peeked at the water to, indeed, see reflexions, depending on which angle she was looking from.
And questions... no. Not really.
... he'll explain what they'll actually have to do, right?

Of course there were questions, at least from Corey. His hand went up.
"What are the stones for? And couldn't you just use a regular mirror if its just about reflections? And does it matter where the birds are in relation to other junk in the sky? Clouds and things like that?"
What happened if you got bored staring at the sky, threw a stone and hit a bird? Would that flight pattern count for anything?

Shaking her hair out of her face, Thea peered into her bowl. Frowning as it wavered infront of her, she smiled. 'I see my face.. but also the sky and the clouds.' Cocking her head to the side, Thea bit her lip. That was it... Was she meant to be seeing more? 'Oh.. and the bottom of the bowl.' She added lamely.

What was it and those from the house of Slytherin being distracted? Did they think to be so superior that paying attention wasn't really important. But at least this one asked a question he hadn't gone over, so yea.
"The stones? They have two main purposes..."

But oh look; another Slytherin asked that same question about the stones. Along with a million other questions.
"The stones are used for both for decoration and to add something of solidity as a barrier against the water's reflection. The solid, opaqueness of the stone helps to create a more accurate viewing of the pattern." Thereos nodded. "Which is also why a regular mirror doesn't do justice. Since it's not simply all about reflections, but also currents too. Ripples. From the flight of the bird. If there are clouds in the sky, then you might not get an accurate reading, if one at all."
That was all of them, right?

Harvey put his hand up before Professor Thereos could move on with the lesson, as he had a question refering to what was just said.
"Professor what if you were trying to get a reading on a windy or breezy day wouldnt that sort of give you the wrong readings as wind can cause the water current to change. What would then be the next step in a situation like this?."
Harvey hoped the professor would not get mad at him, he was just curious as the professor was talking about currents in the water.

Hearing the other questions, she rather hoped that someone would speak up and ask the one that she herself had in her mind, but apparently no one did. Her curiosity became worse when the Professor mentioned it again. IT...again. Time to raise her hand. "What do you mean the water forms a current in the pattern pattern of the birds? How exactly does that happen?"
She was pretty sure the wind from their wings being flapped weren't strong enough to travel all the way down to their bowls. UNLESS THEY WERE!? She would never look at a bird the same way again. In fact, she may just hate all of them if that were the case.

Curiously looking into his bowl of water and of course his own reflection there, Josh carefully listened to the centaur professor. Well...at first he had thought this was boring yet as the horse man spoke it became more and more interesting.
The bird's flight pattern would cause a current on the surface huh?
Curiously, the Gryffindor looked up to the sky. Too bad no birds seemed to be passing by. And also he was curious to know...
...what Evelyn had just asked. And since she had asked that he wanted to make sure if he had understood it right.
''Professor, are you saying when a bird flies over the bowl in a certain flight pattern, there appears to be a current with the same shape of the bird's flight pattern on the surface of the water?''
That was...confusing but very interesting. Very interesting indeed. And there was something else interesting he wanted to know.
''And professor...umm...just curious. Are there any centaur women?''
Yes, seriously...

Thereos stopped once to a decent spot on the grounds and was about to get started when he was interrupted.
Has the kid not been paying attention AT ALL this lesson? "Fifteen points from you for your apparent lack of focus and memory!" Goldfish probably had a better memory than this kid. "Ornithomancy was the topic in the classroom and still is the topic now."
Um what? "Ten points from you for your carefree chatting." Seriously? Just because they were moving places didn't mean they could just talk whenever they felt like it.

Right. NOW he can get started with the second part of the lesson.
"So as we learned some of the flight patterns of birds and their meanings, part two is to show you more about how Ornithomancy is done." Because believe it not, having your head tilted back and you gazing upward was not really practical. "I have some shallow bowls. If you need more, one of the older students competent in charm work can use the duplicating charm. You'll also need about 5-10 medium sized stones. And water, which you could use your wands for or get from the lake..." the latter was what he had to do.
"Lay your stones carefully around the edge of the bowl and then fill up the middle with water." Thereos glanced around to make sure they understood. "If you wish, you may also do this on the ground, with no bowl, but you'll need to stack the stones higher to add more water, so it doesn't all seep into the ground."
" William lays his tones carefully around the bowl. William decided to get the ater from the lake, then filled up the bowl in the middle with the bowl.

Penny had followed Thereos outside, this was such an unusual thing to happen in Divination - normally they would have been up in the stuffy tower.... This was definitely a lovely change....
Penny picked up a bowl and scooped up some water from the lake, then placed ten stones around the edge.... Listening carefully to what Thereos said...

Penny thought about she would see in the water reflections, "Sir I think that we would probably see the sky and clouds and of course birds..."
She really didn't know what else she would see... Of course she would see herself, but Penny didn't think that was what Thereos meant.

Penny looked into her bowl and tried to see what was reflected in the water... She didn't actually see much, apart from the clouds and blue/grey sky... Unfortunately, being November, there wasn't many birds in the sky to be reflected in the water - But she was definitely going to try.

Gideon stopped with the rest of the class once it seemed like they had reached their intended destination. He inwardly winced as more points were lost, turning his attention to listening to Thereos as he explained what the next part of the class would entail. Retrieving a bowl, he set it up at one age of the gathered students before gathering several stones and adding them to the edge of the bowl as instructed.
"Aquamenti..." he cast with his wand filling the bowl to the correct point and then turning his attention back up front as he returned his wand to his pocket. Gideon listened to the answered his fellow classmates gave, remaining quiet as his thoughts were mostly given before he could answer. Retrieving his notes from his bag, he added a few from what was being said and shook his head as Thereos asked for questions.

But she did what he said. She stormed walked over and got her bowl, went to where she was supposed to set it up and then placed the several stones as he had instructed.
Then she drew her wand and conjured some water. When it was all done she crossed her arms and waited for him to talk...

Sighing, Thea got too her feet as she had plonked herself down on the grass. Grabbing her bowl ,she went to collect the stones.
She knew for a fact she most likely was NOT going to be able to see anything out of the ordinary so she really didn't see the point. She was still a bit stung aobut his previous comments about tarot cards. Pff. She doubted very much if he had ever tried it anyways..
Placing her several stones around her bowl, Thea drew her wand from her robes. Lazily conjuring a bit more water, she stowed it away and sat back down again.

Because believe it not, having your head tilted back and you gazing upward was not really practical.
Maddy quickley ran in and grabbed one of the first blowls, she did not want to be one of the last ones to get one. She giggled at one of the Hufflepuff kids who diddn't get one. She brought the bowl with her while she collected stones so nobody stole it without her looking. She grabbed 7 stones, a good divination number, and transported them in her bowl, over to the lake where she set up her station. She set the rocks in a circle and aquired some water from the lake by scooping it out with her bowl.

Relaxing his mind a bit before speaking, he nodded. "Right then. So you're almost ready. You have your bowl of water. When you look into water, there are good chances that you will see what exactly?"
ooc: if you didn't get to do the first activity, feel free to do it later and add it onto the current stuff. The lesson will remain open for [about] another 12 hours to allow you to RP the activity =)
Before looing into her bowl, Maddy guessed "We'll see the reflection of the sky, and birds flying in the sky" Then she looked into the bowl, that's exactly what she saw "and we also see a reflection of ourself when we look in" Maddy added.

Sierra didn't have any questions, so she just looked down at the bowl and stone setup she'd created right when they'd walked out here. Corey had asked the exact same question she'd been thinking--what were the stones used for? She'd heard the answer he was given, but it all seemed so irrelevant to her.
At least the whole deal about the water's current changing to reflect the bird's flight pattern was slightly interesting. That may just be the first time anything dealing with Divination interested her. It was still all a waste of time either way you looked at it, though. Divination was make-believe. Sierra was just here for the elective credit.
She looked back up at Thereos as she waited for the lesson to progress.
Kennedy ordered his ten rocks around the bowl that held lake water. He peered into the water and all he could see was his face. Hmm, his glasses seemed a little foggy. He looked up, directing his attention at the professor. What exactly were they supposed to do? The boy leaned back, resting his palms on the ground. Divination...was it even real?

Minerva grabbed her bowl and quickly found her stones. She had seen a few older students say a spell so she decided to try it. She pointed her wand at the bowl "Aguamenti" Water magically was in her bowl. She smiled to herself for doing the spell right. Then she raised her hand. "So Professor. If say the birds were in a triangle pattern does that mean you will be having a good week or bad week." Minerva was looking into her bowl very curiously to see if she could see anything.

Kurumi looked at her station to see what she could see in it, only to find that she had set thing up almost directly under a tree. Oops. That probably wouldn't help with finding birds in the water's reflections now would it?
"Thereos," Kurumi said with her hand in the air. "Does a bird's flight pattern during landing play into Ornithomancy, or is the focus more on while in flight and not during take off and landing?" If yes, they she could always hope that a bird would come to rest on a branch above her. If not, she would just move.
