Default Arithmancy One: Introduction to Spell Numerization & Basic Curse-Breaking

The room was breezy, which wouldn't have been terribly strange for the November day except that the windows closed. Having just finished rearranging the desks for about the fifth time that morning, Professor Hadley settled on having the desks pushed together in pairs.

Resting her backside against her own desk, she was flipping through the latest copy of Numbers and You as she waited the arrival of the students.



ooc: please take your seats and keep chatting to a minimum. Lesson will begin as soon as enough of you have posted arriving <3
Lesson has started. Any late arrival posts WILL be subjected to points loss, so please, pretend as though your character has been there the whole time. Oh and the same goes for editing your post; I'd rather have you DOUBLE post (and I'd merge it) then have you edit your posts. Editing posts is also subjected to points loss.... Unless of course you WANT to lose points ;D

As students started to leave and thank her for the lesson, Josephina nodded politely at them but then her eyes flickered toward one student that still seemed perplexed.

She hoped that answered the question. Because it wasn't about opening the box, but about number characteristics. That was what most of curse-breaking was about, wasn't it?

This had been an interesting class indeed. And Josh thought the information that he had learned during this one was...very useful. Probably it was why he had been so silent so far.

''I think...i have an idea on how to open the box. I mean the...walnut?'' Though the word walnut did not remind him of good things for a reason, he'd try at least. ''This is our homework after all, is not it?''

A pleased smirk appearing on his face, the Gryffindor looked down at his desk to put his things back in his bag...only to realise that he had not taken aything out of it at all. Well...fine.

''Let's go and have a meal. I am hungry.''
as usual he said to the she-snake next to him and stood up to leave. ''Thanks for the interesting class, Professor Hadley.''

Louisa was staring at the students and professor's mouth moving very silently. She wrote a note or two in her parchment before finally the class was dismissed. She got up on her feet, stuffed her things into her bag and threw it on her shoulder. She SO needed a nap at the moment, hopefully no one was going to bump into her on her waaaaaaaaaay up there. The girl took the magical box they were supposed to open it and made up her mind to steal someone else's idea about that.
"Have a nice day, professor." Too bad such a nice woman taught such a... difficult subject.

Couldn't she teach History of Magic instead of Scabior?

Kurumi nodded. She understood that part...at least she thought she did. Chances were that she was over thinking things as usual, but Professor Hadley had just opened up an entirely new can of worms in the young Gryffindor's life. A career working with numbers. She hadn't really thought about it until now, but it seemed almost as appealing as working with dragons magical creatures.

"I understand," she said with a slight bow. "I was just wondering that now since we know how the spell works thanks to analyzing the numbers, how one would go about breaking the curse. Would one try to create the reverse number combination? Namely with the range of the curse. Finding the proper combination of the opposite forces of 527? Perhaps...91...8?" She was sort of pulling things out from no where, but this was all rather fascinating. "I guess what I am trying to ask is how a Curse Breaker would take the knowledge they accumulated from studying the numbers and apply it practically."

She knew full fell that this was going beyond what they could learn in the classroom and her own abilities, but curiosity always got the better of her.

Vashti took down some more notes as she thought over all the stuff they'd gone over in the lesson. It was really interesting - Arithmancy usually was, of course, but this subject was extra interesting. And it was what Cursebreakers used? Maybe she'd consider becoming one after she graduated. She still hadn't decided on a career anyway, so maybe Cursebreaking was for her.

She started gathering her things and stuffing them into her bag once Professor Hadley had dismissed them...but slowed down when she heard what Kurumi was questioning the professor about. So instead of just dumping her things haphazardly into her bag, Vashti put them in there slowly and carefully one by one - that way it didn't look like she was eavesdropping, even though she was.
