A surly looking Mr. Stryker is seated on a bench. As you enter the gazebo, he'll motion for you to take a seat on either a pillow, beanbag, or good ol' concrete. Your choice.
Please, come in! The lesson will begin shortly (OOC: 4pm EST, 9pm GMT (I think...) tomorrow), so feel free to talk amongst yourselves.
Eris raised her hand a bit more confident as she though of the fun dances within her mind, repressing a giggle.
"How about the mambo, sir?" She asked giving her shoulders a playful shake as the boy-girl of a witch spoke, thinking of the way her cousin danced it with his girlfriend.
Anakin smiled warmly at Vashti, not bothering to say anything more as her attention was then directed towards the Professor, Mr. Stryker he thought, and Anakin turned his head there as well. Of course, he wouldn't be able to get anything out of what the other students were saying, or be able to glance around to see where people were or if he knew anyone else. Now he just had to concentrate on what the Professor was asking.
Having missed the first two questions, Anakin thought he might have an answer for the third and his hand shot up into the air, he was unsure if anyone had SAID it, but still. "The Mambo is a type of ballroom dance isn't it? Or even the Samba?" Granted it was more popular in Latin America, and among Brazilians, but they were still a type. He, personally, had never done either but he'd watched weird dance shows with his Da before when nothing was on their muggle TV.

Bentley sat... and observed. She didn't know much about dance at all, except that when the music played all she wanted to do was move her body around-- even if she didn't quite know how.
Were they going to be learning ballroom today?
That requied partners... and she didn't want to hurt anyone, especially not a student.
The memories of that dance lesson they had her First term came rushing back. Hence, why the Ravenclaw was wearing a particularly happy smile as she entered the...gazebo? That was new. "'Ey, Stryker. Bentley." Grin. She found a seat on a pillow.
Treyen should come. Really he should. It would only be too perfect then.
Or he could not, you know. And, should they have to partner up, she'll find someone else. It wouldn't be nearly as awesome, for obvious reasons, but someone else'll do.
Surely, SURELY, Mr. Stryker couldn't take points off from Treyen for being sliiiightly late, could he? It was either being late or not attending at all, so...late he was.
Yet he wasn't late at all, because Chad was only asking for types of dancing or whatever, he wasn't fully listening, he was far more interested on the girl he'd taken a seat next to. Or rather...shared a pillow with...he wasn't too fond of Mr. Stryker's choice of seating arrangements, honestly. A couple benches would've been enough.
"It is, a point to you. However, a point will go to each person that can name the two different types of swing."

Faven had been near the back of the crowd, being a part of something she was exactly comfortable with. Her aunt was the dancer, not she, who had two left feet. When she heard the Professor answer a question she thought she knew the answer to, she finally gathered the courage to speak up. "I believe sir, that two types of swing are West Coast Swing and East Coast Swing...." Faven said hesitantly, hadn't that been what her aunt had told her????
Who knew there were so many types of dancing? Em didn;t know a whole lot about the subject, but she had seen some on the television before. raising her hand, she said, "Is the Polka one? Like in Germany or somewhere?"

There was another,"There is one called the Bolero. It's another under mentioned type of Ballroom dance." Jai remembered a dance show they went to in Spain. It was a slow dance with rise and falls in the steps.
"Has the Merengue been mentioned?" Rafe raised his hand. He hoped it was okay to mention two. But, he hadn't heard anyone say that one yet. "I think it's Latin American. I saw it in a movie once." Though Rafe would never mention what that movie was.

Presley shook her head at the other answers. They weren't wrong...but they weren't right either. "There are many different forms of the swing dance. The two most popular, if that's what you're asking, are the Lindy Hop and the East Coast Swing."
Lysandra listened to all of the many types of dances the students where listing and one was never said, (ooc: at least i hope not lol) There is also the salsa Professor, if it hasn't been mentioned yet she listed along with everyone else.

Chad started to wander about the room, nudging students (and the occasional prof) here and there to make sure that they were still paying attention and awake. He gave a harder nudge to Treyen Lockhart. Talking during class? Tsk tsk.
"The last remaining dances are the salsa and the sloooow foxtrot. Now, who can tell me about the waltz? A little background info, yeah?"

Guess who just got back today. Them wild-eyed boys that had been away.
Haven't changed that much to say. But man, I still think them cats are crazy.
They were askin' if you were around. How you was, where you could be found....
"Lord Nikolas? I like that one" he nodded and smiled, much better than Bean-bag-boy but she could call him whatever she wanted. So, Yo-girl did have a name. "I'll call you both, Arnie and Yo-girl" he admitted.
Yo-girl was actually promising she would not laugh at him, at which he felt pleased and surprised because most of the people would actually laugh at him. Still, he didn't mind at all. But the best part was the challenge. "I will try to make you laugh just to have a new beanbag chair" he said with a mischievous smile. He knew Arnie would try hard to not laugh after this challenge so he would do his worst dancing movements.
He chuckled when Arnie admitted her brother didn't believed she could have manners "Why did he thinks that?" he wondered.
And then his attention turn to a voice that he recognized...Emma. " Just waiting for the class to start" he looked at the Slytherin sitting beside him "Even though I don't know what I'm doing here, I got no dance skill" he shook his head. Oh look! the class has started.
Nikolas snort a bit when he heard Mr. Stryker had been forced to teach dancing. Poor man. If Nikolas was him, this would totally be a torture. Dance experience? YES! None. This was going to be interesting if they dance today. Mostly with a partner, he would kicked someones feet accidentally. And what if was to a pretty girl? Oh noo that definitely could not happen.
Mr. Stryker asked again another question and this time Nikolas did answered. "About...having a good time?" he assumed "Or for excercise or simply a hobby" he replied "Or like she said..." he looked at the Slytherin girl "For dates and parties". Parties were fun and that was the only time he actually dance...or tried to.
Charner just grinned at the boy beside her. Lord Nikolas it was. And she would be either Arnie or Yo-girl. Both were suitable. Yup, she liked this kid.
She was about to open her mouth to respond to his question, but the class had begun and she had to clamp her jaw back together. Instead she gave her bean-bag-companion a knowing grin. He was SO ON for that challenge.
Hehe.

Types of dancing. Charner's hand went to poke Johnathan. He should know these things. She had just rambled off a whole list for him. Why wasn't his hand going up? While one finger went to poke him, the other hand raised on its own accord. "Sir, hip-hop is also a style of dance." Though it was doubtful Lord Borr would want them learning that. The image alone brought a small giggle from her throat.
Ohp! They were past that. Her hands dropped and she gulped, blinking at the Professor. "Sorry..." History of the waltz? "It was a part of society back in the day? A social event." Ehhhhhhh could she hide under the bean bag now?

Jayden raised her hand. "The waltz is pretty much the "base" dance of the ballroom, it's pretty simple to understand because it is a three-step dance... with a really simple 1-2-3 rhythm and has been around forever... well, since the 1800’s anyway." Jayden said, blushing. She could be such a nerdy history buff sometimes.
"Well, the Waltz really took off in England around 1812 during the Victorian era." Rafe raised his hand. "It's a slower dance and is in 3/4 time. And performed in a closed position, which means you're facing your partner." He had no idea where that information came from. Probably from one of his mum's class classes.

I says salsa lol oh well, too little, too late, eh?
Well all I really know about the waltz is that there are about thirteen types of it and each is from a different country and that the fastest I believe is the Viennese Waltz? Lysandra said.
"The last remaining dances are the salsa and the sloooow foxtrot. Now, who can tell me about the waltz? A little background info, yeah?"
History of the waltz.........how did she remember all of this? She would have to clean out her sponge of a memory later...... As she did the last few times , Eira raised her hand from her little patch of cement and spoke up politely."The waltz is classified as both a ballroom and a folk dance. The classic is performed in triple time , and most forms are primarily in the closed position. There are many variations to it and its origins have been around since the 16th century. The dance mainly originated in Germany , Austria, and France. It was one of the very first and most classic of ballroom dances, often performed in a group setting, Sir. "
"Precisely, thank you," he smiled. "A point for you."
"As well as you!"

"The Vienesse Waltz is the first modern ball room dance" William told the professor.
Eino had a sufficient amount knowledge on the waltz. His fencing instructor always compared fencing to dancing, and most specifically the waltz. Eino raised his hand. "The waltz actually began as a folk dance, from what I remember, in the 16th century." This he knew because he had a multitude of read books on Elizabethan England. Now he was glad he had, as other people put it, wasted his time on useless information. "It was often referred to as sliding or gliding, where a couple would hold each other very closely that their faces would touch. It used to be considered a wild and more upbeat dance for the people of the lower class, but the when it was introduced to the higher society it developed into a slower and more elegant dance." And this elegance was where his instructor always wanted him to use when he was fencing, but it was very difficult to remained poised while trying to avoid being poke. "It has continued to develop ever since finally into what we call the waltz today, which is a ballroom dance in triple meter, but has retained its element of closeness and intimacy."

So many answers....Kourt raised her hand to pipe in her own. "The waltz actually wasn't very popular at first...since it was one of the first dances that involved a closeness between partners; it was frowned upon to have the man's hand upon the waist of his female partner."
"The last remaining dances are the salsa and the sloooow foxtrot. Now, who can tell me about the waltz? A little background info, yeah?"
Background info on the waltz, Faven could do that. She had spent many afternoons with her aunt, talking about her dancing days. "The walz is the oldest of the ballroom dances, dating back to around the 18th century. It was the first dance where the couple danced in a modified Closed position- with the man's hand around the waist of the lady. Two Austrian composers, Lanner and Strauss, set the standard for the Viennese Waltz, a fast tempo waltz. Around the later part of the 19th century, waltzes were being written to a slower tempo then the original Viennese, sir." Faven answered him. Oh please let me be right! I am almost positive that my aunt told me this....please oh please oh plleaaaase!

"The Hesitation Waltz was introduced in 1910, by introduced by Vernon and Irene Castle." she spoke softly.

Marilyn tapped her chin. "It's a dance that was popular among Royals back in the day. Marie Antionette, a French Queen, was cited doing this particular dance many times."
Was it important? No...but it WAS interesting...

Eris raised her hand once more, she felt like she was getting good, these answers she knew.
What is the charm for making a metal come to life= clueless, now background on a waltz? She got this.
"A waltz came from a looooong time ago...." Eris began, feeling a bit like she was stating the obvious. "Though it seems old fashion to us, it was quite eyebrow-raising at the time....as it requires you to hold your partner close in a sort of hug. The Viennese Waltz is a faster dance than the normal waltz, and came a bit later."
Sure her answers were not as book smart as the rest of the kids, but all she could speak from was her experience.

I am the school groundskeeper," and not a dance teacher," and I am being forced to teach this dance class, no thanks to a certain third year Slytherin female who told Lord Borr in her assignment last term that I sucked at dancing." He was rambling.
"Now, before we go any further, does anybody here have any dance experience? If so, what type of dance do you do?" He was totally going to exploit those students to teach the rest of the class because he knew NOTHING.

Minerva couldn't believe Harvey actually joined her in this class. She was thrilled to see him answering as well. So many students were answering that she couldn't get the professors attention she finally cleared her throat. "Sir, the waltz has a few forms there is the Hesitation Waltz, the Country Western Waltz which in this waltz came the Spanish and pursuit waltz, there is the Viennese Waltz, plus there is also the international waltz, american style waltz, the mexican style, cajun style, and finally the venezuelen waltz. Waltz have been traced back to the 16th century. I have had many years experience with this dance back home. I was on a dance team since I was 3." Minerva hoped she didn't sound to dorky saying all of this, but for once she knew what she was talking about. She looked back over at Harvey and blushed from her little dance talk.
