Eris raised her hand a bit more confident as she though of the fun dances within her mind, repressing a giggle. "How about the mambo, sir?" She asked giving her shoulders a playful shake as the boy-girl of a witch spoke, thinking of the way her cousin danced it with his girlfriend. |
Anakin smiled warmly at Vashti, not bothering to say anything more as her attention was then directed towards the Professor, Mr. Stryker he thought, and Anakin turned his head there as well. Of course, he wouldn't be able to get anything out of what the other students were saying, or be able to glance around to see where people were or if he knew anyone else. Now he just had to concentrate on what the Professor was asking. Having missed the first two questions, Anakin thought he might have an answer for the third and his hand shot up into the air, he was unsure if anyone had SAID it, but still. "The Mambo is a type of ballroom dance isn't it? Or even the Samba?" Granted it was more popular in Latin America, and among Brazilians, but they were still a type. He, personally, had never done either but he'd watched weird dance shows with his Da before when nothing was on their muggle TV. |
Bentley sat... and observed. She didn't know much about dance at all, except that when the music played all she wanted to do was move her body around-- even if she didn't quite know how. Were they going to be learning ballroom today? That requied partners... and she didn't want to hurt anyone, especially not a student. |
Text Cut: Ellie Surely, SURELY, Mr. Stryker couldn't take points off from Treyen for being sliiiightly late, could he? It was either being late or not attending at all, so...late he was. Yet he wasn't late at all, because Chad was only asking for types of dancing or whatever, he wasn't fully listening, he was far more interested on the girl he'd taken a seat next to. Or rather...shared a pillow with...he wasn't too fond of Mr. Stryker's choice of seating arrangements, honestly. A couple benches would've been enough. "Hi," he said, smiling at Ellie. |

Who knew there were so many types of dancing? Em didn;t know a whole lot about the subject, but she had seen some on the television before. raising her hand, she said, "Is the Polka one? Like in Germany or somewhere?" |
There was another,"There is one called the Bolero. It's another under mentioned type of Ballroom dance." Jai remembered a dance show they went to in Spain. It was a slow dance with rise and falls in the steps. |
"Has the Merengue been mentioned?" Rafe raised his hand. He hoped it was okay to mention two. But, he hadn't heard anyone say that one yet. "I think it's Latin American. I saw it in a movie once." Though Rafe would never mention what that movie was. |
Presley shook her head at the other answers. They weren't wrong...but they weren't right either. "There are many different forms of the swing dance. The two most popular, if that's what you're asking, are the Lindy Hop and the East Coast Swing." |
Lysandra listened to all of the many types of dances the students where listing and one was never said, (ooc: at least i hope not lol) There is also the salsa Professor, if it hasn't been mentioned yet she listed along with everyone else. |
"How about bachata, sir?" Michelle offered, having seen her mother tried it at a muggle convention once.. |

Chad started to wander about the room, nudging students (and the occasional prof) here and there to make sure that they were still paying attention and awake. He gave a harder nudge to Treyen Lockhart. Talking during class? Tsk tsk. "The last remaining dances are the salsa and the sloooow foxtrot. Now, who can tell me about the waltz? A little background info, yeah?" |
Lord Nikolas, Professor & a bit for Johnathan :) Quote:
She was about to open her mouth to respond to his question, but the class had begun and she had to clamp her jaw back together. Instead she gave her bean-bag-companion a knowing grin. He was SO ON for that challenge. Hehe. Quote:
Ohp! They were past that. Her hands dropped and she gulped, blinking at the Professor. "Sorry..." History of the waltz? "It was a part of society back in the day? A social event." Ehhhhhhh could she hide under the bean bag now? |
SPOILER!!: Mr. Stryker Jayden raised her hand. "The waltz is pretty much the "base" dance of the ballroom, it's pretty simple to understand because it is a three-step dance... with a really simple 1-2-3 rhythm and has been around forever... well, since the 1800’s anyway." Jayden said, blushing. She could be such a nerdy history buff sometimes. |
"Well, the Waltz really took off in England around 1812 during the Victorian era." Rafe raised his hand. "It's a slower dance and is in 3/4 time. And performed in a closed position, which means you're facing your partner." He had no idea where that information came from. Probably from one of his mum's class classes. |
I says salsa lol oh well, too little, too late, eh? Well all I really know about the waltz is that there are about thirteen types of it and each is from a different country and that the fastest I believe is the Viennese Waltz? Lysandra said. |

Eino had a sufficient amount knowledge on the waltz. His fencing instructor always compared fencing to dancing, and most specifically the waltz. Eino raised his hand. "The waltz actually began as a folk dance, from what I remember, in the 16th century." This he knew because he had a multitude of read books on Elizabethan England. Now he was glad he had, as other people put it, wasted his time on useless information. "It was often referred to as sliding or gliding, where a couple would hold each other very closely that their faces would touch. It used to be considered a wild and more upbeat dance for the people of the lower class, but the when it was introduced to the higher society it developed into a slower and more elegant dance." And this elegance was where his instructor always wanted him to use when he was fencing, but it was very difficult to remained poised while trying to avoid being poke. "It has continued to develop ever since finally into what we call the waltz today, which is a ballroom dance in triple meter, but has retained its element of closeness and intimacy." |
So many answers....Kourt raised her hand to pipe in her own. "The waltz actually wasn't very popular at first...since it was one of the first dances that involved a closeness between partners; it was frowned upon to have the man's hand upon the waist of his female partner." |

Marilyn tapped her chin. "It's a dance that was popular among Royals back in the day. Marie Antionette, a French Queen, was cited doing this particular dance many times." Was it important? No...but it WAS interesting... |

What is the charm for making a metal come to life= clueless, now background on a waltz? She got this. "A waltz came from a looooong time ago...." Eris began, feeling a bit like she was stating the obvious. "Though it seems old fashion to us, it was quite eyebrow-raising at the time....as it requires you to hold your partner close in a sort of hug. The Viennese Waltz is a faster dance than the normal waltz, and came a bit later." Sure her answers were not as book smart as the rest of the kids, but all she could speak from was her experience. |
