Honestly...Evelyn just wanted the lesson to be over already.

Already having a mild panic attack with Destiny being in possession of a chainsaw, Evelyn finally calmed down and went on listening to what everyone was saying. Well actually, she sorta just stared into space, listening to Josh's voice whenever he did speak.

However, she did happen to zone in when Shaw was telling them what they were supposed to be doing. Seriously? Wasn't he like...supposed to teach them the spells? Having studied a bunch of latin words last year for the end of year exam, she knew a good handful of words, prefixes, roots...whatever you want to call them...so that wasn't all that much trouble for her. It was the fact that they had to figure out the spell themselves that was the problem. REALLY!? Ugh.

She had enough trouble actually doing the spell, she didn't need to blow anything up with a spell that only half worked and half...blew stuff up. It seemed like the other Slytherins were doing a good job of starting though. GOOD! Then she could just lean on Josh and zone everything out right? Mmm that sounded nice to her.

Gavin sat next to Charlie, happy to finally have a reason to move away from the front table.

"Well, I don't know a lot of latin but my mum gave me this," he said, pulling his latin dictionnary from his bag. "I think we have to do the blue, right?"

Gavin flipped through his dictionnary and frown.

"Eh... Charlie... These words, they are not in the dictionnary. I think they are to recent to be in latin... What could we use that would convey the idea?"

Nika looked at Kurumi's notes and opened her mouth in awe. "Wow Kurumi thanks for taking all of these notes and being the scribe!" She looked over there translations and then thought back to what Patroclus said about "Needing more". She took the dictionary that Zara had brought and searched through it. "Well it says here that Fortis means 'A strong ___' so if we just add the word for hat in there which we already said is Pilleus right? It would make a hard hat?" Nika finished hoping that she wasn't making a mistake. "Erm Selina is that right? You are the Latin expert in this group."

"Well", Keira thought, knowing hardly any Latin. "My best friend knows a ton of Latin. I remember that shield is 'contego' or 'clypeus'- can we do something with those?" she asked hesitently.

Mahahahahahahha!

Now that was just great, wasn't it? Josh thought he would already work on kicking the attackers if they ever got attacked but kicking them together with Shaw should have been awesome! ''Joshua Carter...ooooor just Josh.'' the boy replied the bald man's question with that usual grin on his face ''And that sounds like a perfect plan Shaw. Perhaps we could transfigure their wands into rubber chicken so they would be all 'whoa!'. Most wizards are vulnerable without wands, right? I am not sure if magical wands can be transfigured though. Has anyone ever tried anyway? Y'know, they might be able to attack back with magical rubber chicken''

Riiight. That was possible. Since a non-magical thing was still non-magical when transfigured into something else, perhaps a magical thing would continue to be magical when transfigured. Hmm...ever heard a professor go on about intent? Intent. To answer that question the Gryffindor boy had to think over all the professors he had met so far. Hmm...

''Well...since the intent of using something might be different than the actual use of it would differ. I would say...no. They always do mention how to do it and the use of it, not really the intent.''

Ah? So they were supposed to make up their own transfiguration magic by making up the Latin incantations. Sitting back, Josh looked around some as people had immediately started to work on it. But how could he work on it anyway? He did not know any Latin. Then he had better find a partner who did. Of course, the moment the word 'partner' had appeared in his mind, the lion boy's gaze when on Evelyn yet she was a Slytherin and as Shaw had made it clear, he had to work with his housemates...so?



...eeeeeeeeh! It was just surprising how quickly people managed to partner or group of. Surely, this lion boy could join any of them if he felt like it however he had no intent of leaving this desk which he was peacefully sharing with his beloved. Soo...maybe he could poke someone closeby like...like...like LEGEND THERE! Plus he already seemed to be working alone. Hmm...nice.

Taking a little chocolate frog box out his pocket, the Gryffindor boy aimed at his housemate very carefully and threw it at him. Hahahaha. That was, no doubt, going to get his attention. ''Hey, Legend! Got any Latin in that blond head of yours hmm?''



Josh was still staring at Legend, expecting the house buddy's answer when he felt the she-snake's presence next to him. Of course he already knew she was there. That did not mean he was not aware of that! It was just that he had been distracted a little by the job of looking for a lion mate with Latin knowledge but now his attention was back on her.

''Well, hun. Do you understand why some people bother to find wand movements for their made up spells? I thought Shaw only said 'words', am i wrong?''

''Am i?'' No wonder his girlfriend had a better memory than him just like she was obviously smarter than him as it took a few more moments for Josh to figure that she was not working with the other Slytherins...which made him feel worried for her some. ''You are okay? Right? Is there a problem?''

Hmmm, hearing her Gryffindor's voice once again, Evelyn looked over at him. That was a pretty good question actually. Though it also made her wonder why in the world people thought up wand movements in the first place for these spells. Why in Merlin's Beard did they not work in the wand movement anyways?

"I'm fine." she said suddenly, blinking after a moment of realizing that she hadn't answered him yet. Turning her attention back to him, she smiled. "Perhaps the lack of following directions?" Or just misunderstanding, though it was way more fun to blame them on something they lacked instead of just labeling it as a 'misunderstanding'.

"The Slytherins are sitting too far away..." Like, two tables over. That was way too far from Josh.

"Hi! Tayla Barnhill," Tayla said, greeting the girl. She had seen her before but didn't know her name. "Sure, take a seat."

Tayla continued practicing the spells and wand movements.

Sierra narrowed her eyes in a 'you have got to be kidding me' sort of way. What was the headmaster thinking when he hired this guy!? Sure, he was sort amusing she had to admit, but did he really just ask if they were supposed to be doing something!? Or, doing stuff, she thought she heard. She halfway listened to the directions, making note that she was supposed to go find the green group, aka the Slytherins, and then come up with some Latin words for the list Shaw had made on the board.

Hmm...

So that would be a mighty hammer, weapon, and first aid kit for her. A first aid kit?! Wouldn't that involve helping someone?! That was sort of a Gryffindor or Puffer thing to have listed there, but she made a mental note of it anyway before standing from her seat and glancing around for the snakes.



"Ugh," Sierra mumbled, as she was met with a sea of yellow, red, and blue as soon as she stood up. Had she really managed to sit as far away from her housemates as humanly possible?! She edged past a group of Ravenclaws and nearly shoved her way through a group of Gryffindors before finally spotting Evelyn halfway across the room. Her friend looked just as amused with the lesson as she did.

She winced as Patroclus Hudson yelled out to Shaw. A dummy to practice spells on, hmm? She smirked as she passed by a group of Puffers. Well, there's a whole table full of dummies right there, Patroclus Hudson...

"Evelyn," she said, sliding into an empty seat near her friend. She gave Josh a nod in greeting before dropping her bookbag to the floor. "Got anything written down so far?" In other words, can I copy your list?!

Isobel didn't really have time to give her opinion, she just listened to Oakey. When he said a spell they could try she spoke up. "Or we could make the dog first, then change it purple." It might be easier.

Just as she finished mentioning something about the Slytherins sitting too far away, did one sit right near her. Well now, that was both good and bad. Good because it was Sierra, and bad because she now had to work on whatever assignment they were supposed to be doing. "Sierra." she greeted with a smile, although, raised an eyebrow at her question.

Seeing as there was no notebook or parchment on her desk, Evelyn was going to have to saaay..."No." But, this assignment shouldn't be too hard right? Glancing up to the board, the Slytherin smirked. Mighty hammer and weapon? There was already a spell for a hammer and that technically was a weapon. Right? "Think we can just use spells that we already know instead of making them up though?"

AND THEN SUDDENLY THE WORK WAS SIMPLIFIED! Oakey was ecstatic.Could you show me how to do this He asked Isobel I'm assuming the spell words are something like Verto Canis? He was glad to have a third year in his group she had taken this class before obviously, and knew what she was doing. What do we do about the purple part?

Presley knew she should be paying attention, but she couldn't focus. Shaw she mused. My director for the plays I used to do was called Shaw. She scared the...wits out of me. Not that Presley was scared of most people, but Shaw was a special kind of monster. She felt herself drifting off. Pretending that she hadn't been up all night trying desperately to find a secret passage out, she sat up straight. There were instructions on the board, but the letters seemed to float around. That's when Presley realized just exactly how tired she was. She lifted her arm into the air.
"Sir, I think I may be sick. May I go up to the Hospital Wing?" At least she would be getting out of class if nothing else.

*Matilda was freezed to her seat because for once she didn't dare to talk infront of that scary teacher*

Salander turned his head from the other Slytherin girl (Rain) to overhear two other Snakes having a discussion. Wanting to point at the other girl who had all the answers written down, he gave up on that and leaned over at the other students. "Hmm, yeah that was her answer too..." he murmured as he looked at their parchment, pointing out to the Validus Malleus. Well heck at least his Mighty Hammer suggestion seems to be all but done heh. He glanced down at something that was realllllly long. He frowned, who would've thought first-aid kit in latin was so complicated? "Maybe we can shorten that thing... I mean a First-Aid Kit is basically a medicine bag that doctors use... so maybe Medicina Auxillium Saccus? Medicina Saccus? Auxillum Saccus? Medicina Auxillium?" Lots of combinations. Still more complicated than he wanted to say but at least its kinda shorter.

Selina looked at Kurumi when she asked about the suffix of ifor and Selina smiled to her friend, "Kurumi, there is no such ending as ifor. Even if there was it means nothing. What Carter was referring to was a third declension ending of or. So we can't use what he said because... well it's not correct Latin and it means nothing. It was a good try though Carter," Selina smiled at the boy.

Then Kurumi asked her opinion on her notes and Selina looked them over thoroughly. Some things made more sense then others, but as a whole it looked okay. Besides most spells were very choppy Latin anyway. She was just doing the best job to make them less choppy and still sound magical. If she translated them directly it would sound like a mess. "Besides the ifors thing which is just wrong the only other issue is Corpus Armatura Cassida. It means nothing like what you all think it does. It was a good try, but you would laugh if I translated it for you. Also Verto Pilleus should be Verto Acerpilleus. Pilleus just means helmet while acerpilleus means hard helmet. Contegifors by association with the ifors comment makes no sense. And contego loosely works. Its the verb to shield which is more of a military word, but we could use it for sure. I think we should add Converto Scuto, which literally means to transform into a shield."


Selina thought for a minute, "Well I already told Kurumi to add the prefix acer for hard, but fortis -a, -um could also work. You would just need to conjugate it. Let's see... Fortibus Pilleus. It's not perfectly conjugated but it sounds less awkward like this."

Nika stared at Selina with her mouth opened. "Wow." She knew her latin and there is no kidding about that. "So glad to have you on our team Selina! You're really good at this."

Caroline was utterly confused. She nodded as Carter when over with other Gryffindors. She looked around the room trying to find a housemate. Where the heck was another snake. She had no idea what another professor was in latin. Heck she didn't even know any latin at all, just the words in the spells that she already knew. How was making up your own spells going to work anyway. It didn't work like that right? As far a she knew it did.

"We can try all of them, do we have anything to try them on?" She looked around for something unimportant. "Do you think we should ask him..?" Aurora scowled over to Shaw. "Honestly, is this what the ministry is calling teaching these days?"

As she searched for something to transfigure her eyes fell on a girl sat alone at a desk. "Shall we ask her over? I think she's in Slytherin too." Aurora couldn't quite see the badge on the girls robes but she thought she saw a hint of green.

Jamie appreciated receiving sudden help from an older student. Although now he felt the urge to sit back and let him do all the work. Because what would a crummy third year know as opposed to a sixth or seventh year? "Right, I'll put it down." He picked up his quill and attempted to put all the suggestions down, getting a spelling wrong here and there. "What do we do now?" He said blankly to the group with his wand FIRMLY in his pocket. He wasn't getting it out, nope, no way.

Ask Shaw? Make Shaw come over here? Nooooo, it wasn't allowed! "I'm sure we can manage." This girl was certainly eager to do some spell work, eh? Apparently his plate was not good enough for transfiguring? Whatevs.

"Are we supposed to be trying them out? I mean, what if we kill someone?" For all they knew, these spells could be real spells and mean a completely different thing to what they were thinking. And Jamie was really not up for more surprises after that chainsaw starting going off. SHUDDER. "Let's just... give the guy his darn spells and LEAVE." That sounded a bit more appropriate.

Seeing the girl that the other girl mentioned, Jamie waved his hands in the air like a loon. "Want some help?" He called to her. THEY were the ones that needed help. The more Snakes, the better. Because they were going to WIN this thing. No matter what.

'OMGosh! Chainshaw! You're right!' Rose said giggling 'This class is pretty cool and I'm getting the hang of it!'

Heather nodded very much like a nervous little girl when the older boy asked if they have any suggestions as a good wand movement. First, she thought, who was he? Oh Heather, you better get a move on and meet ALL of her fellow Gryffindors-being shy when you're in third year does not entirely help at all, and no, she is not that shy firstie she used to be anymore-maybe. Maybe she'd go talk to him later, after class? Going back to his request, the only wand movement she could think of was the swish and flick; it seemed the safest yet.

But, if she let her imagination run wild, she could suggest other movements. how about just flicking it?

"Uhm...I...I could only think of is the swish and flick..." she carefully said, trying so hard to not stutter by pausing just for a short moment. "Ho-how about just flicking it...or...uhm...we...we could do this..." she tried to demonstrate her action by brushing her wand to the air, but she accidentally let go of her wand-and came flying to the other end of the room. She blushed red, her arm still in the air. Her head trembled nervously as she turned to the older boy. "Uh-uh......oops...I'll go get that..." she said and scrambled to get her wand back.

Listening to Selina, Kurumi added the spells she suggested and made a few changes. Looking at her parchment, she set it in the middle of the table for everyone to see.

"I think we've got enough spells for now," she announced. "What we need to apply our focus to now are some wand movements. We can keep coming up with theoretical names all day, but if we don't have anything practical to apply them to, then we are in a pinch." Unless anyone here knew how to perform wandless magic that is.


Kurumi ducked just in time to avoid Heather's wand go sailing across the room. Giggling softly, she leaned over and whispered to Heather as she scurried by. "I don't think throwing our wands is a good wand movement, but I can write it down if you want."

Heather only blushed as she went back beside Kurumi. "O-okay..." she said. Wow, that sure was embarrassing and in front of her fellow Gryffindors as well! "I-I'll think of more wand movements..." she said, putting on a smile. Just because something embarrassing happened to her, doesn't mean she has to go sulky over it now. she has to help. Good thing, Kurumi was there. Having Kurumi beside her always comforted her.

The Slytherin lad started to nod, then jerked his head back to look at the girl "Uhm..." he didnt know what her name was, or the other boy's for that matter "... are we supposed to do any of that trying out stuff? I thought all we needed to do was do some pig latin and tell Mr ChainShaw dude. "

Then he looked at the boy and started to nod again then stopped "Leave?" Pfft "Why leave when this is the funnest class around? I mean how many Professors actually brings a chainsaw to class eh?" he grinned gleefully. Yeah this isnt one of the faint hearted Slytherins not particularly smart either "I actually want to find out what spell he used to transfigure the chainsaw." Cuz it aint enough that he has a mighty-harmmer-that-can-level-mountains spell, he wants that awesome cut-anything-up-with-its-metal-jaws spell heh.
