"Hmm... I do..." Hateya drummed her fingers off her chin, giving his question a lot of serious thought. She agreed that yes, it most definitely had to be catchy; the question was what words to use.

While she pondered, she replied, "I'm Hateya."

Oakey looked at Hateya, she seemed really deep in thought about their teams name. Wondering what she'd come up with he laughed a little in his head. The fact that they were spending time in class figuring out what their team name should was funny. Rather than the actual assignment Shaw gave them

The thing about coming up with a team name, Hateya decided to herself, was that it had to reflect the people in it. And it was hard to come up with a name that was an accurate reflection when she didn't know Oakey that well.

"I'm not sure what we should call ourselves," she huffed, a little annoyed that her brain wasn't working as well as it obviously should be. "It should be something that we have in common. Do you like Vikings?"

If you mean was I in The Norwegian guys class, Yeah I like Vikings. Oakey brushed his hand across his long locks of hair that Christiansen gave him.

"Yeah, Odin's class." Did she remember the professor's actual name? No, no she did not. To her knowledge, her professors so far were Odin and ChainShaw. Hateya gave a wise nod of the head, "So our team name should have something to do with that. What else do you like?"

They'd get to the reading and the Latin eventually, right? Sure.

I LOVE Quidditch Oakey told her. he thought for a moment on a good team name...Oh how's about ODIN'S CHASERS! or ODIN'S BEATERS!

Kurumi was beginning to realize that this was going to be a common occurrence in this man’s class, namely the staring and utter confusion that never seemed to leave her face. Glancing nervously around the room and looking at the board. More specifically, she looked at the RED PEOPLE section, which she assumed meant her house.

Her jaw dropped and she looked at the man. “S-S-S-Shaw?” she squeaked slowly raising her hand. “A-A-Are you h-h-having us build armies to f-f-f-fight against one another?” They WERE dividing into groups and coming up with their own spells and whatnot.

…and continued to feel it do so as she continued to listen to the man’s words. Then, she heard Selina speak and she instantly leaped across a few chairs so that she was next to her Gryffindor friend.

Yep, she would be sticking right next to Selina during the rest of the lesson.
Checking the board again, Kurumi noticed an obvious pattern with their materials: a shield, armor, and a hard hat. Those were all defensive items, but perhaps when combined could create something much more.

“S-S-Selina, do you know any Latin words that could combine all three of our objects to create a sort of robot? Well, not a real robot, but looking at what we have, it seems as though if we transfigured things properly we could create an iron giant.”

The boy scratched his head.

So, it looked like it was split into houses. Darn it. Attempting to work it out by himself, Jamie flicked through his textbook and after about five minutes, all he could come up with was, "Pulvinus." The boy muttered. Sounded pretty good to him, but he was too embarrassed to say it properly aloud in case of epic failure.

Instead, he got some parchment and wrote;

...and he held it up into the air, as if he was at an airport picking someone up. Where were the Snakes? He couldn't tell. So now he waited, friendless and Slytherinless.

Iris rolled her eyes. She honestly wanted to leave the classroom right now. She wanted a real teacher. One that didn't play with chainsaws or the very least, one who spoke proper English.

As Shaw FINALLY got onto some kind of practical work, Iris sighed. He couldn't even arrange what he meant properly. Iris was actually considering marching over to Tate's office after this class, to do some SERIOUS complaining about this man.

Deciding to get up, Iris made her way towards the small group of Slytherin's that'd formed together. "Alright you lot. I'm not liking his teaching methods." Can't you see she dislikes him? Not that she was expecting the rest of the Snakes to share her opinion... "But I suppose we better get these spells figured out..."

Iris had a rough idea of what spells were needed to transfigure things into these objects, but right now, she couldn't even be bothered trying to remember what they were. "So... does anyone want to provide answers for Mr. Shaw?"

Why bother learning how to transfigure anything into something useful, eh? Iris was obviously going to need to learn how to turn a teacup into a weapon, wasn't she? Yeah, and she'd have to use her wand - her most useful and powerful weapon - to create said weapon. Honestly.

"The words are often from another language, particularly Latin. And the wand...well, it can transfigure and do magic because of it's magical core and the witch or wizard holding it. Even with a magic core, it would be useless to Muggles." Tayla answered, unsure what Shaw was asking exactly and hoping she was giving the right answer. Looking at the board, she continued. "You grouped it that way based on the Houses I suppose."

Tayla stared with her mouth slightly gaping as Shaw helped the girl write - no, saw the board with the awful chainsaw. She shrugged and answered Shaw's question. "Fera Verto is used to transfigure animals into a water goblet, but I think it can be used to transfigure animals into other objects, too. 'Fera' is Latin for animal or beast. And 'verto' means to turn."


Tayla closed her eyes and covered her ears with her hands. She wished she had gotten earmuffs! As soon as the sound of the chainsaw stopped, she began to work.



Tayla went over to Zara and Nika when she heard them call out the Gryffindors. Tayla didn't mind working alone, but it would be much better to work together this time. And besides, she just wanted to leave her seat up front and head somewhere safer.

"Hi girls," Tayla smiled, sat down beside them, and opened her book. "I think it's important to include 'verto' in the spell, Tayla said, thinking aloud as she scanned her book. Because, well...'verto' means 'turn'...and this spell is for transfiguration."

She looked up from her book and continued. "And maybe this time 'verto' should come first - unlike in 'fera verto'. 'Fera' means animal, so the spell was turning an animal in to something...this time...the spell could be...turning something in to - so that's 'verto' - a shield for example - so that can be, according to Latin, 'parma'." She wasn't sure if her classmates understood what she meant - she was a little confused herself, but she raised her hand anyway and decided to give Shaw some suggestions.

"Shaw, how about, 'Verto Galea' or 'Verto Pilleus' for the hard hat? Galea means helmet while pilleus means cap."

"Then, for the shield, 'Verto Parma' and for the armour, 'Verto Armatus'"?

To explain how she came up with the words, Tayla repeated to Shaw what she told Zara and Nika, then she bit her lip, and waited anxiously for Shaw's answer.

Janet raised up her hand but still not sure of her answer. "Uhmm.. I think you grouped it based on the color of our houses. Like Red People, I think it means Gryffindor. And Blue People, Ravenclaw. And so on. the thing you wrote next to each one is what most of the house members chose. Although I still don't get the Other People part..", She answered.

Rosemary was now quite worried about their teacher so shifted away from him slightly before taking some notes and then joining the other Gryffindors to listen in whilst still making notes.

Okay, being silent the entire time was not a good idea, but the way the professor acted both excited and scared Heather. Mostly scared the girl, so she was unable to really ask some questions-even though she fell lost with what to do around. She looked at her fellow Gryffies working and sighed.

She could ask help from them, so why not? And she should help too since this is their house, but totally, she was lost in ...catching up..

She buried herself in her book, hoping to find something useful at least so she could help her fellow Gryffindors.

Mia raised her eyebrow at the smile she got from the man known only as Shaw. Yeah that couldn't be good. She placed her arms on the desk and rested her chin on them as she watched the antics of her friend Destiny.

The girl had actually come to class wearing that bloody helmet. And now she was wielding a chainsaw. Probably lucky she was wearing that helmet.

And then Shaw started talking again and Mia kinda zoned out. She hated this class. Not because of the strange man teaching it but because it was technically difficult and required quite a lot of concentration which she seriously lacked.

It wasn't until everyone started talking about being in groups that Mia jerked herself back to the present and blinked a few times. Crap!! She didn't want to be in a group so people could see how very inept in this subject she was.

She raised her hand. "Can I work on my own?" As for the whole latin thing...she struggled trying to pronounce a lot of english words.

She has already comes out with an incantation of a weapon. As she sees the lone third year, Aiden approaches Jamie. "Slytherin?"

Waaiiit they had to make up own words in latin?Oh my god,breathe Fee breathe.She knew some latin words but what could words could she use to change stuff into other stuff?Looking through her text book the blonde sighed a little.This first lesson didnt start of too well.Gnaahhhh,last term transfiguration had been one of her best subjects.

But then something popped up in her head and the Slytherin smiled.Hopfully i would work,that would be sooo püerfect."Alviros",she whispered to herself and nodded.

Looking around the class to see how her classmates where doing Fee noticed someone holding up a shield.Smiling the girl walked her way to the shield and they boy it belonged to.

Wait,he kinda looked familiar,had she seen him before?!Nooo idea.Oh well,she would find out now."Hey you",the Slytherin smiled," need some help?"The third year diddnt knopw why they had build teams within the houses but oh why not.

Scooting even closer to Selina, Kurumi noticed a rather petrified Heather clinging to her book and decided to grab her by the arm. "Psst, Heather," she whispered so as not to startle her too much and cause her fellow Gryffindor to throw her textbook at her or anything. "Come work with us. Selina can speak Latin."

Kurumi pulled out her textbook and flipped through the pages to scan some of the spells listed there. Overhearing Patroclus' idea about transfiguring one's hair into a helmet didn't seem like such a bad idea, so she began to scan her textbook, as well as a Latin dictionary, for anything that may work.

Picking up her quill and parchment, Kurumi jotted down some words that seemed like they would be useful - Selina could check her work later.


Looking up for a moment, Kurumi found herself especially drawn to the last words on her list, and wondered if there was a way to separate them. She supposed she could try and then Selina could come over and correct her butchering of the language.

"Galeoverto Tectum..." she said aloud. It didn't sound too bad. Smiling, she added that to her parchment. Now, what could a potential wand movement be?

Using her quill as a makeshift wand, Kurumi looked at her textbook and closed her eyes for a moment to envision what a helmet looked like. The first thing that popped into her head were old samurai helmets with a crescent moon made out of some sort of metal mounted on the top. Not the most practical in her mind, but it made for some beautiful clothing. Tracing an upside down half circle in the air, Kurumi paused to think about what ought to come next and found herself wanting to jab her quill, so that is what she did.

Selina heard Kurumi beckon to her and she thought hard about her request. She knew from the top of her head the word for iron it was ferrus. However, her request for robot would be hard being that Latin was a language established before technology so there were no words dealing with technology in Latin. But she had an idea, "Okay, well, the Latin word for iron is ferrus, but there is no Latin word for robot because well Ancient Rome had no robots. But we could say giant, which is gigas. So you could say Gigantis Ferrum."

Aurora walked over to where a group of Slytherins seemed to be forming. Feeling a little self-concious, what with only being a first year. "Hello, um, you could use Accipio Arma for weapons."

Kurumi blushed. Perhaps robot hadn't been the right word, but it was what had popped into her mind at the time. "Right...no robots in Ancient Rome," she laughed nervously. "Gignatis Ferrum," she repeated. "That sounds quite nice actually. So, perhaps this could be used on metal objects to turn them into human like things?" She had to stop herself before she said robot. "Then charm it to move with Locomotor?" That didn't sound like such a bad idea.

"Oh, um, Selina, I don't think the Latin is right on this," she said handing her parchment to the red head.

A friendly voice? AH! it's Kurumi! Heather swore she could have cried at this instant-the professor was rather scary, especially when he did the chainsaw thing.

she moved closer to her and Selina and tried to help.

Seeing Kurumi work on the spell, she thought of one, "would swishing and flicking the wand work as a wand movement?" oh sure, maybe.

This guy was nuts. Completely nuts. But he was still totally awesome. So far, Isobel had just been watching the class with amusement, but now they had to get in to groups. He had erased hers because you can't Transfigure chocolate. Well yeah, she knew that, but he had said to write whatever you needed. And she had needed chocolate.

"Come on Maybelle." She took Maybelle's arm and dragged her behind her as she looked for 'yellow people.' And then she found Oakey and Hateya making their own team and coming up with a name. "Can we join you?" She asked. After a moment he added, "We should be team cupcakes." Well, since they seemed to have a system here. "Or Odin's cupcake beaters." She went with beaters, because beaters were awesome. And not just because she was a beater.

Penny really wanted to do well in this class.... so she had sat quietly in the back making notes of all that had been said...
But now the Professor wanted them to try make up a spell - In Latin...eeps !!!

Concentrating very hard, she was trying to remember all the Latin words she knew, and realised that there weren't many at all..

knowing 'Verto' is to turn... she thought about What she could turn..

Then deciding on 'Piscis Verto'..'Piscis' being Latin for fish.. then maybe the wand movement being a swish to the right with a swift double flick.....

When Penny said the words out loud, they sounded ok.... hopefully her pencil case would turn into a fish when the incantation was said...

Patroclus smiled as little pockets of Lions began to appear all around the classroom, "Lions!" he called, "Let's work together!" he added, waving them all over to his desk, that sat perfectly in the middle of the Room.

"Everyone has great ideas so far," he smiled nodded at all those who had offered up a suggestion, such as Kurumi, Selina, Zara Nika, and Tayla, but he also smiled at the girls that hadn't suggested something.

"Kurumi seeing as though you have an awesome list of notes already do you want to have the task of Lion Scribe?" he asked on his precious little Lion Cub, he knew he could trust her.

"Zara, for the time being I think we might save the practice run until we have something that couldn't get hurt to try our spells on!" he smiled in reaction to the girls offer to be the test-dumbie, he didn't want to vanish anyones clothes, not in a room full of students!

"Shaw!" he called to the Man of the Hour, "Could we perhaps have a dumbie in Gryffindor Robes to try out our spells on!?" You never know something may work!

"So," he turned his attention back to the group, "We need wand movements, Rosemary, Christina, Heather and Janet, do you have any ideas of a good wand movement?" he asked of the few girls who seemed a little lost.

Then turning to Kurumi he sumarised some of the spells they had already suggested, "So we have had; 'Verto Galea', 'Verto Pilleus', 'Verto Parma', 'Verto Armatus', 'Gignatis Ferrum', 'Corpus Armatura', 'Corpus Armatura Cassida', 'Cambrair Scutum' and 'Contego' but we need more!"
More they needed, MORE!

Xandi just sat there and raised one eyebrow, yep because this was normal. . . She got out her text book and began reading about the fancy latin words she was meant to use. She looked around for a group to join but gave up - hmm maybe she was more of a lone wolf?
