Zara searched in her textbook, while she was paired up with Nika. "Hi Nika!" she greeted her fellow Gryffindor. She raised her hand to Shaw, "Yo Shaw! How about trying 'Contego' for the shield thing?" Then she lowered down her voice now that his attention was caught. "Or maybe Armatura for the armor. Or you can try Durus fetus?" |

Rain hopped up and down. "Hey darling! I'm a Slythie too!" Rain knew they both probably would epically fail at this but fun was needed in this confusion. "Any idea what were doing?" She breathed. Quote:
"Haha like a hippogriff. It's friendly if you play along and bow but will slash you if you stammer a word of displeasement." She retorted. This class was going to be a long one. |
Gryffindor's Assemble! SPOILER!!: The SHAW Of course he had done it before, his mother had been a Professor of Transfiguration of Beauxbaton's and after that he had had too of the great Transfiguration Professors of all time, Kingsley and Magnus, so he knew what to do but it seemed that Shaw didn't cause, even though he X_____X The Lion died a little on the inside when he saw the chainsaw rip into motion, he breathed a small sigh of relief that he hadn't arrived in time to sit next to Destiny, for it would possible mean that he wouldn't have finished the class in one piece. Talking the direction for the Prof-Shaw, Patroclus looked around for some Lions, it seemed they were in charge of protection. Red people: shield/armor/hard hat He could do that he thought as he began to speak to whomever was listening, "Well there is the armour spell," he stated as he removed his wand, and rolled it between his fingers ending in a upwards flick, "Loricatus!", the sensation of weight covering his arm as he had intended it, "However that is a charm not a Transfiguring spell, so it seems we win have to revert to the Latin Dicitionary!" |
Oakey looked around to see if he could find other Hufflepuffs he could partner up with.He had moved around the room so much had had forgotten where everyone was. ooc. I'm sooo lost right now, heeeelp me :( |

"Team Shaw." He raised his arm into the shape of a L, his hand making a fist. "Team Shaw." THAT one was doing good, Shaw thought. Quote:

"Wooooo wheeeeeeeeeeeee smart one in the red. You've done this before, haven't you?" Had he already said that? Shaw made the L-shaped arm motion again. "Team Shaw." That one in red was ON his team. |

Text Cut: Mr. Prefect, Sir. XD Zara took out her Latin Dictionary from her bag. Now how did it get there? She didn't know. "Erm, Mr. Prefect. There's one here called Contego. It is defined as: to cover, shield, protect, defend... But I don't really know." She said and handed over her dictionary to him. It was better off in his hands than hers. Maybe he'd find it useful. Laughing ever so slightly, Patroclus couldn't help but grin, come on! Everyone like to be told they were smart! Smiling at Zara and Nika, he nodded and then had some ideas "Another Idea would be to break down the words into Latin, must like Zara said, so to achieve Body armour, we could say, 'Corpus Armatura!' and use a wand in an upwards motion, from the feet to the head, effectively tranfiguring our clothing into body armour, and then once that was established we could even try adding suxifixes onto the spells to introduce especialised pieces like the helmet," he nodded his mind and mouth working in quick succession, so it could be 'Corpus Armatura Cassida!' We could carry on the wand motion, but circle the head to finishing, turning say a hat into a helmet, or even transfiguring one's hair!" Patroclus really wanted to try this out, but perhaps on someone else...... |
Kyle Coppied down the whole list of words - after all being a Ravenclaw she wanted to learn all the spells that worked and didn't. SPOILER!!: List of Words & "Spells" Looking up to Shaw she began writing out bottle and the possible root words she could use from it. Think. Think. Think. Bott- Bott- Butticula she remembered from when her father had made her take Latin classes over the summer. Yay for her father that pushed her way way way too hard to learn muggle and magical everythings. And she knew the root word for water...Aqua after all it meant water in Spanish which was derrived from the Latin or "Romance" Languages. "Butticula Aquatica" she tried, nothing - that formation didn't work...but she felt she was on the right path. "Butticula d'Aqua" no, it didn't work. Then she remembered, it wasn't Butticula - that was only one way to say it and that meant more barrels. She sighed, thinking yet again before nearly yelling out the word. "Uter! she blushed as she realized how much attention she had probably drawn to herself. Pointing her wand in front of her at a paper cup she had "Professor shaw would you think Utter Aqua would be the a good start to a spell to change this paper cup into a water bottle?" She asked excitedly. She would make it work. Once she got the wording down she'd move on to the movements the second she saw the little cup semi-transform she'd try and move on and get the movement down until she found a bottle infront of her. Still the the word Buttilculaqualus seemed to ring in her ear like it was calling to her. |
Zara who I'm too lazy to quote Quote:

poor firstie is lost ...oh man, was she ever lost. It just goes to show that you shouldn't look at your shoes, because she'd done that and suddenly people were yelling house names and English words and non-English words and some girl was using the chainsaw. Hateya sort of clutched her wand to herself, at least knowing enough that she needed it for what they were doing. Probably. Wait, he'd said something about a textbook, hadn't he? She grabbed that too, looking around with wide eyes as people kept shouting. "Er..." Should she just go for Team Other? |
Christina watched as her fellow students were told "Team Shaw" and told Shaw fancy Latin words. That was all she could do; watch. She slammed her head down on her desk in frustration, shutting her book with her face after reading it for the tenth time. Transfiguration was literally the only subject she couldn't understand. She looked up for a moment to glare at Shaw, whispering angrily to herself, "I just don't get it!" It wouldn't help and it was childish and petty, but it still made her feel a little better. |

When he asked where all of the magical incantations came from Selina rose her hand, "Some of them are Latin roots, sir. Although some are completely random or Greek roots. However, the majority relate to a lot of Latin." This was one thing she knew well being that Selina spoke Latin and was very well versed in the ancient language of the Romans, "You also put the groups in order of the houses... or the colors that you see... which are houses." Salander stared at disbelief when Shaw actually gave Destiny the chainsaw. Shaw wielding the chainsaw was one thing, Destiny wielding the chainsaw was quite another. Apparently Shaw knows nothing of Destiny's talet with a walnut and a bat. Nonetheless it was awesome to see Destiny carve her suggestion down. Salander leaned forward and for a while wondering if he should try his hand with it. SPOILER!!: ChainShaw :whaa: :head: Transcribe to Latin those words? Did he look like the Pope to him? Salander stared agape and leaned back. How the heck is he supposed to do that now? He stared at the Green People words and started to look around for the Snakes. Just then one Slythie said this: Quote:
 :D Salander left his seat and slipped into the one nearest the girl. Well heck she of the green robes has got the answers, and he's got the partner. Good deal yeah? "Hey there. Salander." he grinned as he introduced himself. "I remember that first one now malleus... that was the hammering spell from Kingsley's transfig class." |
Selina looked down at the list of things they needed to come up with Latin roots for or in this case spells. Her eyes scanned the list and she saw the shield. She had remembered when she was reading the Aenid they had referred to a shield as ferrum which meant iron. No wait that was sword. What had they used for the word shield? And then she remembered the Death of Polites and it came to her. "Okay Gryffindors! Look the Latin for shield is scutum and the latin verb to change is cambriar. So we can say Cambrair Scutum! Or we could conjugate it, but this sounds better." |

Great. Just. Great. She had no clue as to what Shaw was trying to teach them. Oh, he was going to be receiving an ANGRY letter from her daddy. "Sorry guys," she said her smile turning upside down. "I'm confused." she said. This was horrible. HORRIBLE, I tell yah! |

Oakey found the one girl that Shaw had squished to the ground, earlier and noticed she was just as lost as he was She was a Ravenclaw too. Those guys are smarties. Hey umm, Wanna make up our own team. We can be TEAM GRAVITY COWS. |
Oh no, he didn't. This was noooot good. "Shaw?" Helena asked, looking at the man. "I wanted a more comfortable chair, and that's written at the yellow group. Does that put me in that group? Because I'm a Slytherin." Yup, totally Slytherin. Even though she might not be as Slytherin...ish as she was supposed to be... she was still a Slytherin. "... green?" She added quickly, but almost whispering that part. |
Quote:
"Gravity cows are evil," she told him. "You have to wear steel-toed boots and use chainsaws on them." That was pretty much the extent of her learning so far in Transfiguration. "But yes, I'll be on your team. It needs another name though." |

Then what do you recommend we call our team? He asked her. sitting down in the desk next to her and turning it to face in her direction. My name's Oakey by the way, and the team name should be something catchy. Don't you think? |
They got make up their own spells! That was wicked awesome! Shaw probably had no way of knowing that it was one of the things she was contemplating making a career of, but either way the result was the same. Time to experiment! Journal now out and quill at the ready, Ivory scribbled down the different Latin terms she could remember pertaining to earmuffs, watches, sunglasses and masks. Spying the Shaw not too far away currently making an L shape with his bicep, Ivory piped up with her thoughts on subject thus far. With a small smile, she cleared her throat for a second before putting in her two knuts."I believe since 'Auris' is literally Latin for ear, that it would be a good place to start on the ear muff transfiguration incantation." Looking down at her notes for a second, her eyebrows knitted together in thought as she bit the tip of her tongue. "Perhaps in conjunction with 'Theca' meaning 'covering' since one would concentrate the intent on earmuffs and not earplugs." A little more selfconfident now the Ravenclaw prefect found herself talking more enthusiastically as she went on. "Or possibly instead with 'foveo' meaning 'to keep warm'. Or even," she added with an excited laugh."All together to make sure the right intent got across." Her mind jumping to the next object, she continued. "Whereas for transfiguring sunglasses, one could easily use 'umbra' meaning shade and 'oculus' the Latin word for eyes." Almost unconsciously, her head nodded. "Oooh and for a mask, os meaning face could possibly be combined with dissimulo. The latin word for disguise." Ending with a small woosh of a sigh, the 5th year smiled sheepishly. At the very least she'd shown her excitement on the subject. Now all she had to come up with were wand motions since she was pretty sure she had the watch thing down pat from Kingsley's classes. |
