Loud, blaring music can be heard coming from the open Transfiguration classroom. It's beckoning you to enter....?
Shaw, dressed in a long alligator skin cloak, has seated himself in a desk at the back of the room. The desk is turned so that he can see everyone that enters and no one will ever be at his back. He's removed his hat and his head shines a little from the incoming sunlight. The rest of the room is typical: desks in rows, chalkboard, books, dust.
No directions are given, no friendly smiles. Enter if you're up for learning a little something something from Shaw. But I wouldn't interrupt until the song was over if I were you...

Well, it was a start. "Why do we have to do the first aid kit anyway?" she mumbled.
No? That failed.
Sighing, Evelyn reached over to grab her bag and place it on her desk, fishing out her notebook, quill and ink while glancing over to Sierra. "Because some Slytherin thought they needed it." she muttered, finally finding her quill. Why wasn't it in the place it was supposed to be!? Her bag was organized like no other! So why wasn't it in that specific pocket?
And now with her notebook and ink neatly placed in front of her, she was all ready to do this assignment! Or in other words...make Sierra think of stuff while she wrote it down.
Or...

He glanced down at something that was realllllly long. He frowned, who would've thought first-aid kit in latin was so complicated? "Maybe we can shorten that thing... I mean a First-Aid Kit is basically a medicine bag that doctors use... so maybe Medicina Auxillium Saccus? Medicina Saccus? Auxillum Saccus? Medicina Auxillium?" Lots of combinations. Still more complicated than he wanted to say but at least its kinda shorter.

Or they could just do what Sierra did.
Except that was her problem in the first place. Salander and his group were too far away! Like...a row and a half. Pfft, they should scoot closer. Snickering quietly after seeing Sierra's note, the sixth year Slytherin leaned her head against the palm of her hand while writing down her name and date on the page.
Hmmm yea, Salander should move over here. Him and the Slythie group.

Once he had finally found the Snakes, Jamie felt a little less daunted and sort of wanted them to huddle together, like teams would do before they playe football or something. The blonde girl had clearly taken the lead but was directing questions at them rather than answering them herself. PPPFFFT, she was the older one here! The boy scratched his head then looked again at the blackboard. Mighty hammer.
Jamie opened up his textbook and searched for a good few minutes. HUH, he found answers! Yay, for textbooks! "I found... Validus - for mighty.. and.." He trailed off, skipping pages and pages to look for 'hammer' Ehh, this one was trickier. "Malleus.... maybe for hammer."
"Validus Malleus." That TOTALLY sounded like a spell. Now for wand movements. If it was hammery, then it would need battle type movements, right?
"We could just... jab our wand in front of us." Like a sword. Brilliant. Jamie was so clever. Now it was someone else's turn. The boy looked to each of the other Slytherins, sending a smile to them all.
Fee listend to the boy next to her and nodded at him,his spells ounded kinda good. The blonde had no idea why she found this so hard to do but something just didnt click.Looking trough her text book the girl sighed a little but finally found something. It sounded kinda good so the blonde would go for it."Aves",the blonde whispered to herself looking trough the book some more.Mhh...what could match? It didnt sound like spell yet.
Almost at the end of the book the girl sighed again, daamn making up own spells was much hearder than she would have imagined. As the Slytherin was about to give up she found something."Oh we could use Aves verto",she said,"it turns a bird into a rat."Well at least it should.
I went and clicked the button to reply to all your posts, and it didn't save my clicks. Your lovely posts go right here, okay? Okay!
Suddenly their group grew in all sorts of numbers, and Hateya found herself pouring through her textbook and getting more lost. It was good that Oakey knew the Latin words he did, but she sure didn't know any. Then they were trying to come up with a spell to Transfigure a purple dog? And wand motions to go along with it?
But she didn't know any wand motions; she'd never cast a spell! Even if the book said what wand motions to use for a similar spell, she didn't know what they looked like. A visual learner, was Hateya.
"Swish and flick?" she muttered, looking at one of the listed spells. "What does that even look like?"
Seeing that most of the other students had partners already, Emerald decided to work alone. Taking out her notebook she tried to remember as much Latin as possible (she kept getting it confused with Greek). Once she thought of enough roots and words, she wrote:
Quote:
1. Ulotrichus- spell for making hair curl
--Like she needed that one--
Quote:
2. Xanthoflorus- spell for making yellow flowers
3. Libremorphus- spell for turning something into a book
Hopefully these will work, she thought, now for the wand movements.
Zara watched in silence as her fellow Gryffindors began brainstorming. Well, she also watched as her Latin Dictionary was being passed around. Happy for bringing that, she hoped she had contributed something. She said all of the words that she found useful. Now, she waited as Mr. Prefect had said that they'd have to test the spells later.
Glancing over at Kurumi's shoulder, she peeped at the notes. Wow, it was an awful lot. Kurumi really did have a lot of patience. Sighing Zara opened her textbook, hoping to find something. They have already come up with a lot of spell, now all she had to do was contribute some more. And of course, wait until they try it.

Kyle Coppied down the whole list of words - after all being a Ravenclaw she wanted to learn all the spells that worked and didn't.
SPOILER!!: List of Words & "Spells"
Red people: shield/armor/hard hat
Blue people: ear muffs/watch/sunglasses/mask
Green people: mighty hammer/weapon/first aid kit
Yellow people: pillow/cushion/nice chair
Everyone else?: water bottle/cup/flute/poodle (purple)/lint roller
Chainsaw girl that needs socks: Socks
Looking up to Shaw she began writing out bottle and the possible root words she could use from it. Think. Think. Think. Bott- Bott- Butticula she remembered from when her father had made her take Latin classes over the summer. Yay for her father that pushed her way way way too hard to learn muggle and magical everythings.
And she knew the root word for water...Aqua after all it meant water in Spanish which was derrived from the Latin or "Romance" Languages.
"Butticula Aquatica" she tried, nothing - that formation didn't work...but she felt she was on the right path.
"Butticula d'Aqua" no, it didn't work. Then she remembered, it wasn't Butticula - that was only one way to say it and that meant more barrels. She sighed, thinking yet again before nearly yelling out the word. "Uter! she blushed as she realized how much attention she had probably drawn to herself.
Pointing her wand in front of her at a paper cup she had "Professor shaw would you think Utter Aqua would be the a good start to a spell to change this paper cup into a water bottle?" She asked excitedly. She would make it work.
Once she got the wording down she'd move on to the movements the second she saw the little cup semi-transform she'd try and move on and get the movement down until she found a bottle infront of her. Still the the word Buttilculaqualus seemed to ring in her ear like it was calling to her.
"Why would you change a paper cup to a water bottle? If you got a cup, just drink from that!"

Shaw scratched his stubbled cheeks as that one there talked at him. "No? The list isn't by who asked for what." Last he checked it wasn't anyways. "I grouped them there like that because they made sense. You're supposed to be coming up with possible word combo's for your green group's words."

Journal now out and quill at the ready, Ivory scribbled down the different Latin terms she could remember pertaining to earmuffs, watches, sunglasses and masks.
Spying the Shaw not too far away currently making an L shape with his bicep, Ivory piped up with her thoughts on subject thus far.
With a small smile, she cleared her throat for a second before putting in her two knuts."I believe since 'Auris' is literally Latin for ear, that it would be a good place to start on the ear muff transfiguration incantation." Looking down at her notes for a second, her eyebrows knitted together in thought as she bit the tip of her tongue. "Perhaps in conjunction with 'Theca' meaning 'covering' since one would concentrate the intent on earmuffs and not earplugs." A little more selfconfident now the Ravenclaw prefect found herself talking more enthusiastically as she went on. "Or possibly instead with 'foveo' meaning 'to keep warm'. Or even," she added with an excited laugh."All together to make sure the right intent got across."
Her mind jumping to the next object, she continued. "Whereas for transfiguring sunglasses, one could easily use 'umbra' meaning shade and 'oculus' the Latin word for eyes." Almost unconsciously, her head nodded. "Oooh and for a mask, os meaning face could possibly be combined with dissimulo. The latin word for disguise."
Ending with a small woosh of a sigh, the 5th year smiled sheepishly. At the very least she'd shown her excitement on the subject. Now all she had to come up with were wand motions since she was pretty sure she had the watch thing down pat from Kingsley's classes.
"Write that down," Shaw encouraged. "You got the eyes for this, blue one. You and those ones," Shaw pointed to the Red Boys that GOT Transfiguration, "could grow up to be professional transfigurationists! Congratulations!"

"Fera Verto is used to transfigure animals into a water goblet, but I think it can be used to transfigure animals into other objects, too. 'Fera' is Latin for animal or beast. And 'verto' means to turn."
Tayla closed her eyes and covered her ears with her hands. She wished she had gotten earmuffs! As soon as the sound of the chainsaw stopped, she began to work.
Tayla went over to Zara and Nika when she heard them call out the Gryffindors. Tayla didn't mind working alone, but it would be much better to work together this time. And besides, she just wanted to leave her seat up front and head somewhere safer.
"Hi girls," Tayla smiled, sat down beside them, and opened her book. "I think it's important to include 'verto' in the spell, Tayla said, thinking aloud as she scanned her book. Because, well...'verto' means 'turn'...and this spell is for transfiguration."
She looked up from her book and continued. "And maybe this time 'verto' should come first - unlike in 'fera verto'. 'Fera' means animal, so the spell was turning an animal in to something...this time...the spell could be...turning something in to - so that's 'verto' - a shield for example - so that can be, according to Latin, 'parma'." She wasn't sure if her classmates understood what she meant - she was a little confused herself, but she raised her hand anyway and decided to give Shaw some suggestions.
"Shaw, how about, 'Verto Galea' or 'Verto Pilleus' for the hard hat? Galea means helmet while pilleus means cap."
"Then, for the shield, 'Verto Parma' and for the armour, 'Verto Armatus'"?
To explain how she came up with the words, Tayla repeated to Shaw what she told Zara and Nika, then she bit her lip, and waited anxiously for Shaw's answer.
"Write those down, too. Yous in the blues need to make Shaw a list, combined list. You got good stuff but some of it is over there," he pointed, "some is over there. Verto is important and I think you are GETTING it. Make a list. Team Shaw has a list."

It wasn't until everyone started talking about being in groups that Mia jerked herself back to the present and blinked a few times. Crap!! She didn't want to be in a group so people could see how very inept in this subject she was.
She raised her hand. "Can I work on my own?" As for the whole latin thing...she struggled trying to pronounce a lot of english words.

Perhaps we could transfigure their wands into rubber chicken so they would be all 'whoa!'. Most wizards are vulnerable without wands, right? I am not sure if magical wands can be transfigured though. Has anyone ever tried anyway? Y'know, they might be able to attack back with magical rubber chicken''
Riiight. That was possible. Since a non-magical thing was still non-magical when transfigured into something else, perhaps a magical thing would continue to be magical when transfigured. Hmm...ever heard a professor go on about intent? Intent. To answer that question the Gryffindor boy had to think over all the professors he had met so far. Hmm...
''Well...since the intent of using something might be different than the actual use of it would differ. I would say...no. They always do mention how to do it and the use of it, not really the intent.''
"Josh," Shaw tried out the name. His mouth mouthed like he was tasting the name. Tasted good! He missed most of the conversation about chickens. Shaw was committing Josh to memory. "Huh? Oh right. Intent. Intent is as important as them there fancy words. Otherwise, how do you get a water goblet out of an animal? Intent."

Dropping his quill, Theodore clapped his hands over his ears roughly at the sound of the whistle. Quite the loud one, Shaw was, although the Ravenclaw would never admit it. His grades were at stake, here! Lowering his hands, a smirk formed on his face at the professor's mention of Team Shaw. That included Theo! His eyes skimming his work, Theodore stood up, his chair scraping along the floor loudly. Making his way up to Shaw, slowly and carefully for fear of what he would do, Theodore stopped about two feet away and extended his arm out completely, covering the distance between the professor and himself. "Here you go, uh, Shaw," Theodore attempted to sound nonchalant, his American-accented voice remaining steady as fear momentarily flashed through his eyes.

Just when more people joined the Slytherin group, the discussing and work had been stopped by Shaw. Ahhh, they weren't finished yet! But Jamie was in no position to argue with the crazy professor. So he quickly jotted down the rest of the ideas, or what they had so far, and shuffled his notes together, ready to show Shaw.
First aid kit:
Medicina Primum Auxilium Verto
Medicina Auxillium Saccus
Medicina Saccus
Auxillum Saccus
Medicina Auxillium
That was an amazing list, even though it was quite incomplete. The only wand movement that was there was Jamie's pathetic idea for a jabbing technique. It would do, though. The third year brought up their list and handed it to Shaw timidly.

She leaned over Kurumi's body again to look at the list. They only had a few left so Selina picked another random spell, "Okay Verto Parma. We could make the wand move in a small counterclockwise circle and then a sharp movement downward. Kind of like making a P but more involved. Only because of the word Parma. And it also makes the design of a shield with an arrow heading toward it." The movement reminded Selina of Dido being struck by Cupid's bow. The doe had never expected it.
Kurumi turned her attention back to Selina and nodded before jotting that down next to the appropriate spell. An elaborate 'P'...Kurumi had to giggle softly as they had several spells that made the shapes of letters. She used to do that in her school back in Japan for practicing English. They called it air writing.

Jumping to her feet, and with her right hand clutching her robe's fastener on her chest, she made her way to the front of the room with her group's parchment in the other hand.
She had to bite her tongue to not call the man Professor, which hurt quite a bit, and she handed the parchment to him.
"Here is the work we came up with on Team Shaw," Kurumi said hoping that he wouldn't mind that they hadn't come up with a few wand movements.

"Actually William, Shaw spoke up already. It's done. We just give him our list of spells for Transfiguration." She smiled sheepishly.

YUPYUP. Zara had a wide grin on her face. "Success Team Shaw, hopefully."
Simon looked at Professor Shaw and wondered if he should show him what he had done so far, because at the moment it was a bit weird, he decided against it and put the paper on his desk, he wouldn't go anywhere with it.

Simon wanted to chuck it in the bin it was rubbish he was glad he wasn't going to show the Professor it and if the Professor asked if he had done anything he could say he had tried but failed.
Gavin shrugged. He and his partner hadn't got anywhere. Oh well... He couldn't be good at everything. And he had to admit, this teacher was just so hard to understand. He didn't make sense to Gavin at all. He thought that spells already existed, not that they were supposed to create them.
