It was a bitter-cold morning. The wind whirled and howled, rustling the leaves on the trees violently. Admittedly it probably wasn't the best day to have a lesson on the Schooner, in fact it would have been more appropriate in the spring time. But... the students would survive.
As you board the main deck of the Schooner you are confronted with an unexpected sight. It had been transformed to look like a makeshift classroom. Small desks and chairs had been arranged in rows across the deck, facing the front where Professor Bentley was standing, writing on the small blackboard there. Surrounding her was a row of ominous looking ...fish tanks? covered with sheets. An eerie bluish-green light emanated out from behind the sheets, casting a strange glow across the first two rows of desks.
Situated slightly off to the side was the largest tank. It was tall and tubular.
Once she had finished writing her message on the blackboard Professor Bentley stood off to the side of the deck waiting to greet the students as they arrived. She was full of energy and excitement, but contained this in order not to scare the students away.

Well, thank you, Simon, you have made him lose 3 points. The first time he's ever lost points in all his years at Hogwarts, and he loses them for speaking in a lesson. Just great, Simon, GREAT.

At first glance, she could have sworn it was empty. It looked to be that way, but she craned her night slightly and squinted her eyes a bit. She remembered some thing she had actually learned in her time away from Hogwarts and raised her hand.
"Is it Tingle Weed, Professor?" she asked. The weed did have chameleon-like qualities and that would explain why it was hard to see, as it was blending in with the water around it.
"Now we wont be spending any more time looking at gillyweed just yet, so we'll be moving onto our next specimen"... Seren walked a few paces to the next tank. With a swift motion she uncovered the next tank. It was tall and slim... and it appeared to be .. empty. At first, Kurumi was going to say Blue Lace due to the color glowing from the tank. However, as she leaned in a bit to examine the plant within, or lack there of in this case, she quickly changed her mind. "Professor, does this tank contain Tingle Weed?" she asked as she tried to peer a little closer. She thought that she could just barely make out the outline of something - which was her hint really. "It is almost impossible to see due to its ability to blend in with its surroundings." That is...until you touch it.
Where had she put her earmuffs...

"Yes thats exactly right! when ingested gillyweed effects the ingester by giving them the ability to breathe under water... along with that webbing develops between the fingers and toes to help aid movement under water."
Seren was very pleased with the responses she had been getting so far. Seems as though the students had worked with gillyweed before.
Well she was on the right track... "Yes gillyweed is one of the main ingredients in Gillywater," she said nodding.
Right... so they had covered Gillyweed before. Great, it meant they could move onto something more interesting! "Brilliant, so it sounds as though the majority of you have studied gillywater before", she smiled out at the sea of faces. But there was some information they had neglected to bring up. "In terms of caring for and harvesting gillyweed it is important to note that whilst they are native to the mediterranean it is possible, now, to grow them across the globe. The key to doing this is to ensure the water they are grown in, is at a stable temperature ranging between twenty to twenty-nine degrees celcius. They may also be grown in salt and fresh water."
Seren paused here to catch her breath and let the students absorb the information.

She looked at the next tank that the professor uncovered. Nothing was in it? Wait, maybe there was, it just isn't seen?
"Tingle Weed?" Zara said after raising her hand. Again, her answer seemed more like a question. She's heard about that plant being kind of invisible unless it comes into contact with humans. But there were humans around right? Well, where was it still? Or maybe it is just an empty tank. Zara frowned.

The tingle weed turned a vibrant shade of scarlett and pink... then the screaming started... A horrible, blood curdling, scream gurgled out of the water from the plant. Seren thought she might go a bit deaf.
Shaking the tingle weed from her finger, she withdrew her hand from the tank, and replaced the lid with her free hand, securing it with her wand. "Right... " she started... "Now that you've actually seen the tingle weed at its finest moment, who can tell me what its properties are?"
What a curious plant to have such an obvious name! Eino wondered if it got to name itself. Eino thought about this question very thoroughly and he knew this answer for sure! "It makes someone... tingle?" He hesitated, but why else would it be called Tingle Weed if it didn't cause a tingling sensation. Unless this was a trick questions, in which case Eino didn't know the answer to. Because most of his Herbology books were in Finnish, he only knew the Latin and universal names for them, not the English ones, and he could not remember what this particular one would be called Tingling Weed in Finnish or Latin. Although, he really hoped there was a practical portion of the class where they would eat some gillyweed and jump in the lake. That would be very educational... but mostly just fun.

Janice wasn't really that sure, but she had trips with her mom and once saw the Tingle Weeds, which her mom had explained as 'a rare species of an aquatic plant that glows pink when you touch them'.
"It's hard to see, I think the camouflage is because it's like a defence mechanism and they are rare (maybe?), but when you touch it it becomes pink!"
She remembered the Muggle who screamed when he saw the weeds turned pink- Wait, it didn't sound like the Muggle was screaming, it sounded more like the plant, or maybe it was just her imagination, since she also screamed in terror upon seeing the plant glowed.

Jamie jumped when the 'tingle weed' started screaming as soon as it had wrapped around the Professor's finger. Really, he couldn't remember the properties of this weed were, but he had read something about a tingly weed from a Herbology book. "Can it be turned into green dye?" Hair dye or another dye, he had no idea. It was just dye, weirdly enough.
Very strange weed indeed. What could they possibly use it for in real life? Jamie couldn't remember anything else about the weed, so to him, its only use was making green dye. Oh, how handy... At least they weren't talking about icky gillyweed anymore.

Finlay was kind of daydreaming a little. Thinking back to when he and Ivan were on the ship before. mmm. Captain Carmicheal. He was awoken from this little dream though when someone sat next to him. Oh he didn't know her. Weird. He didnt really think people did that....just randomly sat next to you. But apparently they did. "Hey..." He offered seeing as the girl hadn't actually said anything to him.
But then his attention was taken by Neptune coming in. Finn couldn't help but smile, the first one of the day, for Neptune had his flower in her hair. Well the flower that he'd given her. When she sat down, he turned around to face her. "Hey Tuney..." He smiled at her. Yes. Neptune always seemed to make him happy. "I see you really like that flower."
Bissy raised her head to face the eagle boy and said: “Hey! I’m Biscenleona. Sixth year…” She extended her hand to shake his and fell silent at the moment the Professor started to speak. She looked at that Tuney girl and then she eyed the boy for a moment. Her eyes lingered on the glittering metal piece… Ooohhhh! The boy was the Head Boy. Oh my! “He must be just PERFECT!!!” she thought admiringly.

It took a while for her to answer the next question. She wasn't quite sure if the contents of the tank were more like Blue Lace or Fairy Lights. She tried hard to remember what she'd read...
"I think it's Blue Lace, Professor," Tayla said as she slowly raised her hand. "The lights remind me a bit of Fairy Lights, but the colour doesn't seem right for Fairy Lights...so I think it's Blue Lace." Tayla wasn't confident about her answer at all, but at least she tried.

Zara watched as Professor Bentley opened the lid of the tank and dipped her hand inside. Eyes wide, it all happened in a matter of seconds. The plant got professor's finger and turned into something reddish pink. And it screamed. Zara's hands shot up to her ears as the piercing scream continued.
She sighed with relief once it was done and before she knew it, the lid came back and professor's hand was safe out of that horrible tank. Properties? How can professor talk so calmly after that. Wondering if she could still hear her voice, she tried to answer the question.
Raising her hand, she said, "It can cure Luxemsprat." That was all she knew. "Luxemsprat is a disease that turns the person's hair into red coming from here and here," she said pointing to her ears and nose.

Helena watched curiously as professor Bentley showed then the tingle weed. It was... interesting. But the screaming... not so interesting.
Anyway. Properties. Helena knew something, so she raised her hand. "If the tingle weed is prepared properly, it creates a permanent dye. It will colour pretty much anything."

Ok that screaming brought this Slytherin lad out of his dazed staring off the portside. Did the Professor say something about a weed? He smirked and he glanced about eagerly until he realized they were talking about the one in the tank. "Uhm... its a weed, its used for parties."Huh? "You know when you need to tie stuff up, like holding up the party canvass or some'n."
