It was a bitter-cold morning. The wind whirled and howled, rustling the leaves on the trees violently. Admittedly it probably wasn't the best day to have a lesson on the Schooner, in fact it would have been more appropriate in the spring time. But... the students would survive.
As you board the main deck of the Schooner you are confronted with an unexpected sight. It had been transformed to look like a makeshift classroom. Small desks and chairs had been arranged in rows across the deck, facing the front where Professor Bentley was standing, writing on the small blackboard there. Surrounding her was a row of ominous looking ...fish tanks? covered with sheets. An eerie bluish-green light emanated out from behind the sheets, casting a strange glow across the first two rows of desks.
Situated slightly off to the side was the largest tank. It was tall and tubular.
Once she had finished writing her message on the blackboard Professor Bentley stood off to the side of the deck waiting to greet the students as they arrived. She was full of energy and excitement, but contained this in order not to scare the students away.

About five centimetres deep. Taking her ruler, she plunged her small hand, gloves on, into the clay and awkwardly bent her knees so that she could see clearly when the ruler had gone in 5 cm. Carefully, she made the hole a little bigger and puled out her ruler, replacing it carefully with the ever so fragile plant.
Next? With an absentminded smile on her face, Ryden went over to the water area.

Alright! Almost done. Two more steps left, plus the tag. You can do this Zara. She went again to the back of the class, struggling to walk straight, but kept on going lefts and rights on the way. AHH, the world's spinning. 'Not now, Zara. Focus,' she thought to herself. She reached the back and got some sea water. Now how was she supposed to get that? *blink*
She watched the other students and saw one use a cup. A small cup, which turned into a big one using this 'Engorgio' spell thing. What should she do? Zara walked back to her desk and fumbled in her bag for something useful. OHHH, a measuring cup. But it was too small. *frown* Oh well, it's better than nothing. She began converting in her mind how to turn these into liters. Once she got her conversions right and straight, she wrote them down so as not to forget. She got her cup and went to where the sea water was and filled the cup. Then she returned to her desk and poured over what water the cup had. "One," she whispered.
And she did this over and over again. Finally when she got her head straight, she had an idea. Getting her tank, she brought it to where the seawater was. Great. No more walking back and forth from her desk to the back of the class. Why haven't she thought of that before? GRR. She filled it up until she got three liters. Math helped her a lot, Zara had to keep that in mind and thank her homeschool teacher before for teaching her that. She happily went back to her desk, her headache and dizziness somehow disappeared for a while. Okay, what's next?
Turning to the rest of the class she felt it was time for an announcement. It looked as though most of the students were either finished or finishing up.
"Right class... I see most of you are finished or close to finishing. Just leave your new specimens on your desk, I will collect them later. What I would like you to do now is fill out the tag I'm about to drop on your desks and secure it to your tank."
Simple enough, no?...
"These cuttings will be transported back to Australia where they will be re-introduced to their natural habitat. I'm sure the Herbologists that are working on reviving the colonies will greatly appreciate your individual efforts."
Yes... there was no doubt that Aron would be pleased with their gesture. She would have to write to him and thank him for providing her students with the opportunity.
With a flick of her wand, simple plain tags appeared on each of the students' desks. Ready for naming.
OOC: If you havnt finished your specimen you still have time. I will conclude the lesson in approximately 6 hours.
Sorry... for the tag just your student name will suffice. Thankyou!
So, they are doing all these and it will be transported back to Australia. Fascinating. She wonders whether the Stubby Purple Coral could survive here in Scotland.
As the tag appears on her desk, she slips it closer to her and fills in the tag with her name.

Three litres? Ryden frowned. She could only haul so much - plus, too much water would splash everywhere. Producing a 500ml container, she poured in seawater six times, watching the plant to make sure that she wasn't crushing it with her water. After all, if it was so fragile in human hands, imagine what would happen to it with the crushing force of water.
There, done. Taking out her wand, she quickly murmured a drying spell on both her hands and gloves, then proceeded towards the next section, heaving her tank with her. Three litres was no joke. The fourth year suddenly remembered to put back the sour look on her face, and immediately felt the tank get heavier in her hands as her enthusiasm level went down.
Stupid Hogwarts making this fun.

Seren wandered around the classroom observing the students replanting their Stubby Purple Coral. She could hardly wait to tell her friend how well her students did. She was sure he would appreciate their help to save these natural beauties.
During her turn about the deck Seren's gaze flickered to the the large tubular tank that stood off to the side of the deck... still waiting to be uncovered. She would save it till last, that way any students that wanted to see it could come up after class... she was itching to introduce it... she had been awaiting its arrival for so long, and now it was here. Oh it was very exciting... very exciting indeed.
A few students concerned her... some students looked as if they were about ready to eat the coral... checking her pendant watch she supposed it was about ready for brunch...
Then there was... oh Merlin! "Simon?!... are you having difficulty following instructions again?" she asked sheepishly. Was this boy not aware that 30cm meant 30cm.... "You're lucky you went more as opposed to less... it would have hindered the corals ability to grow had it not had enough space to root itself and to absord the natural nutrients from the iron rich clay."
She shook her head a little disappointed.

Wait, how do you make the mooncalf solution again? Biting her lip, Ryden turned swiveled back to the board and reread the instructions.
Quote:
Making Mooncalf Solution:
1/4 ounce Mooncalf Dung
700 ml water
Mix until dissolved.
Oh, ew. Taking a deep breath, and trying not to seem to eager (okay okay, she DID enjoy mucking around, so what? It certainly didn't mean she LIKED it here), the brunette grabbed a container and filled it with 700 ml of water. Making sure her gloves were secure and tight on her hand, she weighed out a quarter ounce of the dung and plopped - literally, plopped - the smelly stuff into the water. Procuring a stirring rod, she mixed until all of it was dissolved.
Solution of mooncalf dung. Now THERE was a tasty drink. Grinning to herself, she poured one drop into the tank and made her way back to her table at the back of the class. Pulling off her gloves, she moved her tank to the centre of the table and quickly wrote down her name on the tag.

"Add one drop of Mooncalf Solution. Add one drop of Mooncalf Solution," she thought aloud to herself. "What on earth is a mooncalf solution?" Zara muttered, as she walked again into the back of the class, holding on anything she can to keep her balance. She looked and looked. No mooncalf solution there. There were only two more items left that she hasn't used yet. One was called mooncalf dungbomb and the other was just plain water. Pondering for a bit she went back to her desk, and stared at the tank. Zara sighed, and felt dizzier than ever. Her headache was coming back. Probably from walking back and forth over and over again. Then she saw the paper. She saw it only now. Because it was the first thing she saw when she opened her eyes. Now Zara wondered why she hasn't seen it before. Silly Zara. Taking the paper, she read it.

Ohh. OHH. Thinking twice, she remembered big sis Heather's offer. She looked at Heather and said, "Thank you again big sis, but I think I wanna do it too. To be safe. And it seems fun to do it all on my own. I'm feeling kind of independent." She smiled at Heather and went back to the back of the class with her measuring cup. She got seven hundred milliliters of water and the one-fourth ounce of Mooncalf Dungbomb. Returning to her desk, she dumped this on her table. Where would she mix this?
Zara returned to the back of the class. It was beginning to be a routine here. She got another tank and went back to her table. Placing it there, she mixed the one-fourth ounce of Mooncalf Dungbomb and the seven hundred milliliters in the tank. Mixxy mixxy mix mix mixy. Heheh.
When it was completely dissolved she got the dropper--thank Godric she always brought random stuff in her bag and it just so happens that dropper was one of them for today--and got some of the solution.
She placed it above the other tank and dropped one drop of it. That ought to do the trick. OH HEYY, she was done. Almost. Just the tag left. Hahah, Zara felt so proud. She was independent. She was happy...but dizzy. Ohh the world was spinning. Probably the ship had done it. Or the screaming. Or the stench. Or the walking back and forth for a hundred times.

Then watched as the rest of his classmates concluded their practical exercise.

Kurumi looked up when she heard Professor Bentley address the class once more. A small smile appeared on her face as she removed her gloved and leaned forward so that her nose was almost touching the glass of her tank. "You hear that, you are going home," she giggled tapping the glass almost as if the purple coral would respond. Kurumi highly doubt that the coral was homesick, however.
Kurumi took a quill out of her bag and began to write on the tag provided.

She wouldn't be surprised if he tried to smuggle it back to the Ravenclaw common room. If he did, hopefully - she peered a little closer - Bubbles wouldn't meet the same untimely end as Faustus.

Moving the tank in front of her, Mina started to prep the tank for the clay. Ensuring that it was clean and there were no cranks, she reached for the clay and slowly started to line the bottom of it.
Having the bottom completely lined, she moved to add more clay until she thought it looked like it was enough. Reaching for a ruler, she measure it and continued to fill it up until it was exactly at 30 cm.
Dusting off her gloves, she moved back to writing in her journal.

Mina looked into her tank and nodded in approval. It looked rather nice and it was time to move on to the next step. She was just slightly running behind her fellow classmates and needed to finish up before she fell too far behind.
Eyeing the middle of the tank, she reached in and began to make a small indentation in the clay. Digging a small hole, she dug down the needed 5 cm and moved to reach for her cutting.
Setting her cutting into the hole, she moved to fill in the hole and secure her cutting in place. Not wanting to pack the clay too tightly, she removed her hold on the cutting and allowed it to stand on its own. It looked like it was secure enough without completely packing it in.
Eyeing it with slight concern, she wait to see if it would fall over for a minute. Seeing that it was still standing up, she moved to her journal again.
Half way done.

Reaching for the sea water, Mina slowly poured 1 litre out and slowly added it into the tank. She didn't want to pour all 3 litres in at the same time in fear of that the sea water would distrub the clay too much and her cutting would fall over. She was just a bit paranoid over it.
Watching the first litre absorb into the clay, she measured out the next litre and added it. The cutting remained upright still and she took that as a very good sign. Smiling to herself, she poured out the last litre and added it to the tank.
The sea water absorbed into the clay rather quickly as she worked on her journal once again. Nothing terrible had happened yet and her cutting looked like all the others, so she assumed she was doing it correctly.

Sitting quietly as the instructions were posted on the board, the Slytherin stared at the words, though reading them were a different story entirely. Yet the words 'mooncalf dung' reached her ears, and Evelyn silently blew out an annoyed breath and hung her head back. The stuff was disgusting.
Before she knew it though, the tanks that held the horrid stuff materialized behind her. EW! Gosh darnit. Not only did she had to touch the stuff, but now it was NEAR her stuff. She didn't want any of it getting on her, her desk, or her belongings. Lifting her head back to the looking forward, she glanced down to the parchment that appeared on her desk. Meh.
Grabbing her dragonhide gloves, she tugged them on and stood up, walking to where the stubby purple coral was. Ehhh, yooouuu. You and your purpleness. Pffft. Hmmm, yea that looked to be twenty centimeters. That's what it said on the board right?
Using the severing charm, she quickly cut the coral and glanced to the board once again. Clay time? Yush.
Ariella carefully and precisely measured out one liter of sea water. She poured it in. Once she noticed it looked okay, she measured two more liters and added it to her tank. She stepped back. Only one more step to go. She took a quick break to copy down some notes.

What with the coral cut now and all, the Slytherin moved over to one of the smaller tanks, which...was at the back of the class. Of course. If ANYTHING got on her bag, she was going to...well, she'd hold off on doing anything to anyone until the professor was out of sight.
Taking one of the smaller tanks, she started filling the bottom with clay, all the while keeping a close eye on the stubby purple coral she had cut previously. Hmmm. Did it hurt plants if they were cut from something? Did they silently scream? Did they have any feeling at all?!
And was she done filling this tank? That looked to be thirty centimeters. It was taller than the coral itself, but not by a whole lot.

Yeah, it was safe to say that Marie had been off in another dimension or something. She totally had not been paying any attention to the question part of the class. No one would have been able to guess that though the way she had been doodling writing in her journal though. That is as long as they didn't look at it and see nothing but a bunch of doodles and not a thing about what was being discussed in class.
Finally snapping out of her daydreaming she heard the professor talk about finishing up what they were doing. Looking around she seen most of the class had something replanted on their desks. Most everyone... except Evelyn who looked to be just starting. Well at least Marie wasn't the only one here who hadn't been paying attention.
Looking up at the board she quickly read the instructions on what they were to do. Upon seeing the words Mooncalf Solution she groaned. "Disgusting. What is it with professors wanting students to play with that crap." Literally. Looking over at Jimmy she thought about asking him to mix that nasty solution for her but decided against it. She had a feeling he would tell her she had to do it on her own.
Making her way to the front of the class she let her wand drop into her hand. Using the severing charm she carefully cut what looked like 20cm of the coral so she could re-plant it.
What exactly was it this stuff was used for?
Yeah, she probably should have paid attention earlier when they were talking about it.
