| | |  The Old Ship
 The ancient schooner stands tall in the dark water, although there is a definite list to the mast and sails that belie its age. After all these years hidden in or around the lake, the ship is in remarkably good condition, although the lower decks drip with water and something rather green and slimy. If not for the age and apparent solitude of the ship, it would appear the crew had just departed, even going so far to leave the gangplank lowered to provide access to the main deck.
The main deck is cluttered in a way no captain would approve. Bits of knotted rope, lank strands of the shredded sail, and abandoned cannon balls that seem to have taken root to the deck would have tripped up a sailor in bygone days. They are the only artifacts left of those hearty men now. A rope ladder twists uselessly in the rigging - wonder if the crow's nest can still be reached?
Just a few steps above the main deck, the steering wheel is knotted into place with a moldy length of rope. It's impossible to know where these sailors were headed, but they've been sailing in one direction for a very long time indeed. Propped against the railing behind the wheel is a marlinespike, a nasty pointed thing that was someone's weapon or tool... or both.
Beneath the quarterdeck, a gaping doorway leads to the captain's quarters. Decrepit maps, a rusted quadrant, and a compass sit on the captain's desk, but the most interesting artifact is probably the old tricorne hat propped against the chair. Wherever the man went, his head is bare. The bed and wardrobe in the corner could give you more clues about the man who lived here, but the best clue is the log book folded closed on the chair - Captain's Log for the Dead Wizard's Trove.
Below the main deck, you will find the hold and sailor's quarters. Kegs of powder are scattered with a few ancient gold coins, Galleons by the look of them, but there is no further indication as to what the ship once carried. Was the ship a merchant ship? Privateers? Or pirates? | |

Beth grinned farther. "Aye, for I am Captain Bethany Nobeard, Mistress of the sea!" She declared, waving her stick dangerously. She grinned, hobbling about as if she had a peg leg. She stood up on the edge of the ship, balancing on the ball of her foot, swaying slightly, but then he sort of poked her arm. So gently, but still caused her to lose balance. She fell backwards, bracing herself for the icy water, but was instead greeted with hard solid pain. She realised she had landed on a loose piece of wood, landing on her back. She cried out, in surprise and pain. She could feel her nosebleed charging back, and there were a few cuts and bruises promising their way on to her pale skin.

Of course..she didn't know they were her friend's legs.
"IT'S A SKELETON!! IT'S GOING TO EAT ME BECAUSE I SMELL LIKE CABBAGE!!"
She forgot skeletons only ate cheese.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
This time Mia almost wet herself from laughing so much. Although it was silent laughter because she didn't want Destiny to hear her. Her shoulders were shaking and there her stomach was starting to hurt from trying to keep the laughter in.
And because it was dark and she was too busy laughing, Mia hadn't realised that Destiny had scooted her way to her until the Slytherin bumped into legs. She couldn't help but let out another yelp. They needed to get off this bloody ship, it was making them both crazy. More crazy then usual. "If you smelled like cabbages, being eaten by a skeleton wouldn't be your only problem." Mia re-lit her wand and put a hand underneath Destiny's arm and began to pull the girl back to her feet. "Now are you planning on sitting around on your butt all day? Or are we going to finish exploring this ship?"

If the roles were reversed, and Mia was the one about to face her doom, Destiny would have surely ran away. Yes, she would have left her friend there to be eaten by a skeleton. That was probably the reason she was a Slytherin, and Mia was a Hufflepuff. She was missing that whole loyalty thing that Mia had.
Oh well.
Scooting forward now, so she could at least try and save her life, Destiny scooped up one of the cabbages and was juuuust about to toss it over her head when she heard Mia speak. There were no skeletons, were there? Well, she supposed she deserved that. She did scare Mia first. "I wasn't really scared, you know." Pfft, yeah right. She was terrified.
Letting the cabbage roll from her hand, she pushed herself off the ground as Mia went to help her up. Or..she thought she was helping her. She could have just been trying to rip her arm out of it's socket. Brushing herself off when she was standing, because she SWORE she felt some worms climbing on her, she lit her wand as well, and started walking in a random direction. "Do you think we can see the giant squid from down here? What would you do if you had ten hands? I would do all my homework at once. But then I would need more eyes, wouldn't I? And probably more heads.. Do you have anymore chocolate frogs left?"

The Slytherin hadn't been scared? Yeah sure and Mia was awesome at magic. She raised her eyebrows and folded her arms across her chest. "Of course you weren't. And that really is the cabbages I can smell." Destiny was a bigger scaredy cat than she was. Imagine if something really frightening did jump out at them. They would probably claw each other's eyes out to get off the ship first.
Where was she going? Mia was just about to follow Destiny but then the Slytherin started with her rambling again and she was tempted to pick up the cabbage and throw it at her friend. Anything to shut her up. "Do you really want to know what I would do with ten hands?" Because she was actually imagining some very unsavoury things she would do to the girl.
With a small sigh, Mia followed after Destiny. If she did manage to get caught by some sort of monster or pirate on this ship, her friend was likely to talk them to death. "Do you reckon they have cells down in the lower levels?" And yes she was totally ignoring the chocolate question because she did in fact have more chocolate frogs on her and Destiny was not getting any more. Mia didn't think she could take anymore.

Snow. Snow everywhere.
It was probably the only thing Stephen liked about the winter. Besides his birthday today and finally being of age. Which meant that here was going to drive his parents even more crazy back home. But it was all going to be worth it one day. Approaching this ship thing, Stephen looked at it closely and up and down.
Umm.
Yeah, this thing didn't look safe at all, but of course he was going to risk it and wander around. It might not be here again so might as well enjoy it. Even if it costs him a limb, but that's a bit drastic. Wondering where any of his friends were, Kat popped into his head. She'd probably be in here, planting booby traps for the younger students. They were usually fun but sometimes they would run, crying to their dorms.

Deciding to go to the old ship she spotted someone familiar. Heheheh. She grabbed some snow in her mitten covered hands, formed a ball, and creeped up slowly behind him. Of course being Kat she managed to slip and fall on her back before throwing the snow ball at Stephen. "EEEEEEEEEEK!" She yelped as the snow ball landed on her face. She didn't know what was sadder. The fact that she fell or that she didn't even manage to hit Stephen.

Brigid trolled along down to the old ship in the white wonderland that was Hogwarts. No matter how rude Brig may or may not be during the other seasons, Winter was one time of the year that she just could not be mean. All the white, it was amazing! She could never imagine living somewhere that snow didn't fall!
Finally making her way to a part of the school she had never seen before, she looked up and saw she was just a few feet away from the Old Ship. True, this wasn't a tree house, but it was still pretty cool and extremely random. Was she the only one who didn't understand whyyyy they had decided to put some old ship on the grounds rather than something useful? Just when she was about to board the ship, she saw two people she hadn't seen in months. Brigid knew she wasn't any good at sports, but either way she rolled up two snow balls and attempted to throw one at Stephen and one at Kat as soon as she had seen Kat throw one at Stephen...and miss. While she didn't hit her own face, she managed to miss both by just a few feet. 'Just perfect.'

The cold winter air blew as the 17-year-old shivered. Suddenly, he saw two white masses past him and Kat at once. Confused, Stephen's green eyes wandered around to see the one responsible. Then his eyes landed on them. "Hey you! You better have a explanation for your stupid little snow--" he stopped yelling once he had gotten closer to said person. "Well, well, well. Miss Brigid decided to join Kat in snow balling me, and failing," Stephen laughed and ruffled her hair. "You two really suck at aiming,"

Mia had believed her lie about not being scared. But it wasn't really that big of a deal, right? She wasn't sorted into Gryffindor either. She lacked those bravery traits. Not wanting to talk anymore about being scared, just in case she did manage to get caught up in the lie, Destiny nodded her head before sniffing the air. Cabbages? The ship didn't smell like cabbages, even though about a dozen were on the floor. "Smells more like mildew to me."
She knew that smell all too well. It reminded her of her grandmother.
It was probably a good idea that they went to the lower deck. With the attitude Mia was giving her, Destiny would have most likely been thrown overboard already. She had no idea what she did wrong, it was just a few questions. Jeez! "If I didn't want to know, do you think I would have asked?" Mia received a 'duh' look. Yes, she wanted to know what she would do with ten hands! It would probably be something AWESOME!
She continued walking, shining her wand on a few things she passed, not having any idea what she was looking at. Just about to ask her friend what the things were, since she said she read about pirates, Destiny closed her mouth when her friend ask a question of her own. Why did she want to know about cells? "You..you don't plan on locking me in one, do you?"
Was she THAT annoying!?

Kana hadn't had a good lot of time to explore the ship. But now that it was a lot colder, most students preferred to stay in the toasty warmth. Kana, however, made her way out to the ship, even though it was so cold she could see her breath.
She wore a black belted sweater and a long coat over that. On her hands were fingerless gloves. She also wore her black tennis shoes and dark jeans. In the whiteness of winter, and the colorlessness of her outfit, her BRIGHT red hair stood out more than usual. The floorboards of the ship creaked beneath her shoes.
She was glad to have caught the ship at a mostly un-occupied time. It always seemed to be crawling with students, and where was the fun in exploring a pirate ship if you couldn't do it by yourself? Well... it actually probably wasn't a pirate ship, but Kana's imagination and writer's intuition made her think of it as such. Due to the students, there wasn't a lot of snow covering the planks of the ship, and very little ice. Good.
She mozied slowly, taking in the ship. She saw a rope ladder tied up to reach the crow's nest. Being an avid climber, Kana immediately ran up to it and siezed the ladder. But she stopped to examine the rope. It was pretty old and beaten. Weathered. She squeezed the twine in her fingers and gazed up wistfully. She had plenty of falling experience, but she actually passed up the opportunity.
Releasing the rope, she ran a hand over the side banister of the boat. It was sound. After walking the length of the boat, she descended into the lower decks of the ship, withdrawing her wand from inside her jacket. "Lumos...!"
Below deck was actually a little scary. Dripping water and dark corners. But she loved every second of it. She wondered just what had happened on the ship. What was it's story? How many souls did she hold and how many did she take? She examined the barrels, briefly touching the greenish substance with her fingertips. Algae? Mold? Sea slime? She wrung her hand briefly before continuing to look about with sharp eyes.
Taking in a deep breath, the mustiness of the ship tickled her nostrils, even though it smelled somewhat good. Like old parchment and sawdust. But she sneezed despite this. Then she froze. Had she just heard something? She turned around and held out her wand so the light would illuminate more. She looked down. Rats? Could it have been rats? She didn't mind rats, so long as they weren't rabid or anything. Had she heard someone speak? She looked back up again. Ooookay. She loved the ship and all, but when her mind started playing tricks on her, the fun was over.
She dashed back up the steps into the fresh winter air, slipping her wand back inside her jacket. Then she noticed the door to the captain's cabin and eagerly slipped through it. Wow. It was so... Wow.
She approached the desk, placing her hands on it. Walking around behind it, she stood right where someone would be if they were sitting there. She eyed the compass, but did not touch it, as much as she wanted to. There was an old quill sitting on the desk. Obviously, it once was a grand quill, she could see where it had gold on the tips of the feather. But now it was beaten and weathered, as though it had been used and used endlessly. She picked it up and turned it over in her hands. The tip of it was black, having been dipped in ink over and over. It was a wonderful quill, even though it looked now like it belonged in the rubbish bin. She wanted it. Surely there was no harm in taking it? It was only a quill-- a very old quill at that. Just a trifle. A souvenir. After debating for a moment, she placed the quill in the same pocket as her wand, patting it.
The coins looked so... fairytale-ish. Like the chocolate coins she ate when she was smaller (even though she still occasionally enjoyed them). She picked one up and held it on the tips of her fingers. Then she flipped it, and it rung as it spinned in the air. She caught it and set it back down. Even though the coin would be a better souvenir than the quill, she didn't want it. She felt more drawn to the quill. Even though a pirate would've just taken it, and Kana loved pirates, understood them, she was bound by the common rule of honesty and morality.
She turned to the grand window at the back of the cabin. Most if not all captain's cabins had windows like that. The glass was frosted and icy, but she could see where it was dirty and smudged and grimy. Seawater. She touched the glass carefully before turning from the window. Spooky. Someone had lived here. Many people had lived on this ship. And now the ship was here and they weren't. She wandered back out onto the open deck.
Oh! The wheel. She climbed a few steps to the wheel, which was... tied in place? She wrapped one hand around one of the handles of the wheel briefly. The wood was smooth and hard, yet almost soft with age and wear. She looked down the length of the ship. Wow. Imagine what it looked like with sailors scrambling over the deck, up in the rigging, when she was in use. Descending from the wheel, she ran her hand along the railing again.
Dang this ship was awesome. It was amazing! Siezing the rope ladder again, she carefully, CAREFULLY climbed a few feet and looked over the ship again. Then she climbed a few more feet. Then a few more. She was halfway between the crow's nest and the deck below when she stopped. Why she stopped, she didn't really know. But she did.

Maybe she needed to practice her pitch a little more before she attempted to throw snow balls at people again. "But, I didn't meeaan to miss, it would've been so much more funny if I hadn't, believe me!"
Brigid bent down, picked up snow in both of her hands, and sprinkled it onto both of their heads. "There ya go! This time I didn't miss!" (: Now they wouldn't be able to say anything about it.

I think I prefer you in the snow too!" he said, pushing Brigid down on a snow pile behind her.

"You..you don't plan on locking me in one, do you?"
Was she THAT annoying!?
Mia shook her head as Destiny sniffed the air. Obviously that joke went straight over the girls head. No wonder she hadn't been sorted into Ravenclaw. She decided not to comment about what each of them could smell.
Heaving a small sigh to keep herself from giving Destiny a smart aleck remark, Mia approached the stairs to the lower deck with caution. Maybe she should make Destiny go down first. "Well I could probably use ten hands right now. Because if I fall down these steps at least I will have something to land on." She peered down into the darkness and then turned to look at her friend. "Or even better I could hold up ten lights so that I can see where I am going." And no she was not going to tell Destiny that she had been thinking about strangling her or at the very least covering the girls mouth so that she couldn't talk anymore.
Well actually she had thought about locking the Slytherin in one for about a second. "Of course not. Psshh what kind of person do you think I am?" Just because she was taller than Destiny didn't make her stronger. She would have to get the girl into the cell first to lock her in there and she didn't think that Destiny was that silly to walk in on her own. "Well this is not as exciting as I thought it would be."

This was a bad idea, Viola thought as she wrapped her coat tightly around her. It was such a terrible idea to go for a walk when it was so cold. Like, freezing cold. Brr.
Viola had been walking around, almost randomly for an hour when she came to a sudden stop and peered around her, wondering where on earth she really was. And.. wow. This was simply great. She could clearly see the Old Ship, standing a few feet away from her. Well, she'd been there before and didn't find it nearly as exciting as people made it out to be.
Anyway..now, what? What was she to do? Walk back to the castle or explore the ship, even though it was really boring?

Seriously, Destiny KNEW they hated her.
Shrugging her shoulders, because she could care less about those elves, she tip-toed her way closer to the steps and shined her light down them. Hmm.. "I don't know, Mia. If you fell down theses steps, you'd probably break all ten arms. Imagine the PAIN." Destiny shuddered just thinking about it. "And just because you have ten hands won't mean you would have ten lights, too." Just sayin'.
Mia received a LOOK. A LOOK that clearly, CLEARLY said, 'If you even think about locking me in a cell, I will drop a cannonball on your toe.' But there would be no need for that, thank Merlin. "Well, you know." she drawled, "It wouldn't be the first time someone thought that." Locking her in a cell that is. She would just stay away from the them..just in case. "It's not exciting because we are just standing here."
Grabbing her friend's hand, Destiny started moving slowly down the steps. "Think there are rats down here?" Marcus could use a girlfriend.
