"Be a lot nicer if you didn't have impatient little gits waiting for me to shut up so they could disrespect you to your face," Tate pointed out dryly as he dropped back into his seat. Honestly... calling the man by his first name while he was still a student? Rude.
"But yes, it was one of my better ones. Didn't even tell people not to die. I think they've figured it out."

"But yes, it was one of my better ones. Didn't even tell people not to die. I think they've figured it out." "I could write to the League and have Ballycastle penalized for signing him," Vindictus suggested and he switched topics with ease. "But leaving that bit out - the students will be talking about it."
He began filling his plate with a few thick slices of roast beef. "I wish I could throttle that pirate captain - he lost my wedding ring."

Once they were away from the group at the Gryffindor table, just a few paces before climbing the dais, Fina stopped and turned around. "So Katie, what is it you wish to ask me?" Although silent tears kept falling every now and then, Katie continued to wipe them away with the sleeve of her robes as she quietly followed Hadley for the moment, trying very hard not to feel or look like a mess with her crying even though it could easily be passed off as a seventh-year-leaving-Hogwarts-for-good thing.
Collecting her thoughts and pushing others away as they went, the Hufflepuff slowed to a stop right when Hadley did before the dais. Since the speech had been given and Katie really didn't want to take up her time, she would make it quick. "Professor Hadley, I was wondering.. I mentioned how I'm going to continue my studies in Arithmancy? Would it be okay to send you a letter maybe every once and a while, if I have a question or need another person's point of view on an interpretation?"

Of all things that the graduating Hufflepuff could have asked, Hadley was surprised at the one thing she did ask. Not that the answer was to decline any further contact with students once they left the school. The were not truly on their own, after all. It was that reason in which the question seemed almost silly or foolish. "Katie ... Miss Mae..." Hadley began, her hazel eyes glancing back at Tate apologetically as he fought for attention to begin his ritual speech. "Famous words of a long departed Headmaster was echoed right in this castle; Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it. I must amend though words to, help will always be given to those who ask for it, even if no longer at Hogwarts." Right then. Before the Headmaster could get too antsy for her not taking her seat. "Thank you again." Giving another lasting look and smile at the young witch, the brunette continued on and up toward her seat at the dais. Quote:

After long enough, he shook his head and rose to his feet. With an impatient hand, he gestured the waiting students back to their respective tables. Time for his much anticipated speech - much anticipated because he knew they all hoped it would be over sooner rather than later.
"Good evening, Hogwarts staff and students. As we enjoy this final feast from our house elves, let us take a moment to acknowledge our Slytherin brethren for winning the Quidditch cup and House Cup this year. This is starting to become a habit, I think. I know many of you put in a lot of excellent effort toward earning house points this term, and your house very much appreciates your work. In fact, Lord Borr would like to invite the top earner in each house to the Ministry of Magic for a special tour. Let's give a hand to Kurumi Hollingberry, Sierra Greingoth, Eino Uronen, and Penny Laughgood."
He waited for any clapping to subside before continuing. "As you know, this is an exciting time as we're heading into summer and new adventures and no more classes, but it is also a time for change and reflection as we say good bye to old friends and professors. To all of you, I bid you so long and good luck. Hogwarts will always be a sanctuary and hall of learning, no matter where you go in life."
It seemed as if they had a larger number than usual graduating this term, but every term felt like that to him. The longer he was here, the more students he saw leave. Sad, really, to always be the one staying.
"For those of you who were privy to the happenings this term, let me assure you that all those who suffered from a ghost pirate personas have been given a clean bill of health, and we have fully removed the treasure hunting imposters to the Ministry for processing. Hogwarts is secure once again, although I believe we will relocate the ship to a suitable cave in order to allow those spirits to rest in peace."
And hopefully never to return? "Last, we have many good things to look forward to next term, not the least of which will be the removal of our Ministry cohorts. I'm sure you're looking forward to having additional staff members next term. In addition, Lord Borr has required that we offer... dance classes." Ugly face. He was not a happy Tatertot. "He suggested Mr. Stryker might be interested in taking on that position."
Dance classes. Whew. Insanity. "Now... tuck in and enjoy the meal with a tip of the hat to the house elves again. Safe travels and all that business. And if we could leave off with the histrionics and dramatic declarations, it would do wonders for my digestion." But rather than stopping at her customary second seat from the end, Hadley pondered the choices thoughtfully. Unlikely that the substitute would be attending the feast, and eying the spot next to Renee, which was theoretically that of Lord Borr who was likely too busy and important to feast at Hogwarts, the Arithmancy professor slipped into the vacant seat next to Renee. "Good evening," she said to those nearby - some of which were definitely closer than her usual seat. "Dance lessons, Headmaster? What's that about?" And what about dramatic declarations? Kids weren't still professing their love for one another, were they? Teenagers. PFFT.

*shudders* "Behave, children, or no dessert," Tate gave Vindictus and Lafay a mild look at their bickering. Not that he blamed Vindictus (or Lafay, really... both were good targets), but this wasn't quite the time.
"Lafay, Lord Borr sent something for you as well. To cover your lost supplies from that fire in your cupboard." He made a face. It was clear to him now that the fire had been set to cover the theft of polyjuice ingredients, but it didn't make him anymore pleased about the very nearly dangerous situation that had happened in his school.

The place was packed, as expected. His eyes locked with Renée's for a moment, before she'd turned to the rest of the staff. He gave the professors already seated a collective nod, before slipping into his seat.
Just as Hecate called out to Max.
He had to resist the urge to smile. Trust Hecate to make even that sound amusing. It bothered Renée the slightest bit that even Jared was being so quiet, but even so, at least that moment of locking gazes told her that he wasn't angry at her. Ther might have been disappointment, sadness, but he wasn't angry at her for things she couldn't necessarily control. Plus, she'd already discussed other things with him as well, so hopefully after a bit of time things would be back to normal. perhaps it was just everything that had happened this term, which only brought her back to wondering if Max remembered anything that had happened when he wasn't himself. It was rather awkward being next to him, wondering, with that vast empty seat between her and Jared. She'd actually contemplated sliding over, but didn't want to offend her old head of house.
Apparently Hecate didn't have that problem, and she'd glanced down the table at the comment only to see Jared's almost smile as she'd turned back, in her peripheral vision. At least there would be some amusement for the night. Quote:

And if we could leave off with the histrionics and dramatic declarations, it would do wonders for my digestion." And then there was Tate's speech. yet another thing that helped Renée feel a bit more herself, just by the very knowledge that that wasn't something that would change. The headmaster would always speak, heralding the arrival of the food and getting the feast moving. Even if part of her didn't really want it all to end. She was going to make sure to at least follow the last part of the speech, even if it hadn't really been meant for her and the rest of the staff, or even if she wasn't usually prone to histrionics and dramatic declarations anyhow.
At least now she could distract herself with the feast, and think of conversation starters while she listened to those going on around her. Jacob's speech to Max didn't really register, although it seemed to have disturbed Tate. Listening was always an interesting practice, although she normally didn't eavesdrop. Not in the normal way, at least, and not lately. Not after that incident with Selina, which had scared her more than she'd expected. Quote:

"I'd be somewhat suspicious of you attempting to slip me a love potion or perhaps something worse." Slipping a slice of roast beef onto her plate, as if afraid Max would take it all before anyone else could have some, Renée smiled a little at the amusing thought. It wasn't like there wouldn't be enough food for all, even if other staff members felt the need to comment on the subject. Hecate seemed quite into needling Max, but at least one of his responses managed to get a raised eyebrow from her. Love potions. That only got her wondering again as to how much if any Max remembered of when he'd been possessed, and she glanced at Jared again with a grin. There had been no harm in the pathwways, but there had definitely been talk of love potions in regards to the older staff member. Quote:

But before she could say anything to Jared along the lines of an amusing inside comment about their experience, someone had decided to slip into the empty seat between them and spoken. Fina. Renée gave her a smile in response to the greeting, deciding she couldn't begrudge the other woman for wanting to not bee all the way at the end of the staff table by herself, with the disappearance of Lachlan and Risu. "Good evening," she responded, breaking through her own silence before lapsing back into it as Fina turned a question over to Tate about his speech. This was starting to bother her a little, as she was rarely completely silent and she didn't want her own life making her fall back onto what happened when her mother had died. Either way, she wouldn't interrupt others.

Well wasn't that nice...
"I will need to send him a note of thanks." She said taking the voucher. This would be faster than waiting for the School Governors to replenish her stock.
... too bad it was to Slugs and Jiggers, and not Gleaming Gytrash.

Rather surprised, Katie didn't let that show too much but couldn't help the little smile that formed on her lips. She was quite sure that was the first time Hadley had ever not addressed her by 'Miss Mae', and in a way, it confirmed what she had thought back at the Gryffindor table.
Slowly, Katie nodded. She had heard those words before, what with having an older history nerd sister, but she had never really considered them before now. She understood. "Thank you, Professor. For everything." Katie said, in a way, saying her final goodbye and with a returned small smile, the Hufflepuff turned and headed back. Though, not to the Gryffindor table.

While waiting for her to reply, he listened to Tate's speech and applauded when it was over. "Nice speech, Tate," Vindictus said as the food appeared on the table before them.
Maybe the food and small talk would get his mind off of the fact he still had to face his wife and explain the missing wedding band. Maybelle stopped tapping her foot. She realized it was probably annoyong Vindictus. She looked at him, "Professor you never answered my question about me being a pirate, and I am not leaving this spot until you answer my question." She said, crossing her arms over her chest.
