Charlie entered the classroom quietly. She thought Runes sounded quite boring but she decided to give it a shot. For all she new, it could be a really good subject. Whoops she was late... She walked towards the Prfessor's desk rather cautiously after reading that he was from the Norwegian Ministry.
"That's weird," Charlie thought but said, "Good day Professor" anyway. because she didn't want to be rude. "I'm so sorry for being late,"she gasped, "it won't happen again.."
She sat at a desk by herself. Hopefully one of her housemates or William would come to this class.

Arabella-Marie sat quietly she didnt know the answer to the question but was ready to take some notes if she needed them

Thomas had no idea what Ancient Runes really was was it Ancient Magical Runes?

Nessie was just about to speak when class had started. She was kinda tired but she was so used to being tired all the time that it felt like nothing.

...a foreign teacher? Really? Not that Evan was against them, NOT at all, but he didn't think the English ones were that bad to hire a foreign teacher neither. Oh well. The man seemed a decent professor, and Evan would welcome him as best as he could.

Raising his hand, he said "Ancient runes studies the runic... writings..." Right? Right. And where is came from? "...from Germans?" Norway was also a Germanic country, no?

Woah. It was just a little hard to understand what the professor was saying. Maybe it was a good thing he'd sat right at the front. He spent the next couple of minutes trying to work out what the man had actually said. He'd heard Ancient Runes (not surprising really seeing as that was the subject) and what. So he figured that the guy was asking them what the subject was. Raising his hand in the air Finlay began to spoke. "It's the study of magical runes, such as Ehwaz." Yup. You sound totally nerdy Carmicheal.

What are ancient runes? Seriously, how was she to know? She thought about it for a couple of minutes. She raised her hand and asked rather doubtfully, "Ancient runes are celtic writings?" Blah, she probably would be wrong but hey, she did try.

Ok. Kita didn't like Ancient Runes and she knew it. But she wasn't going to let that bring her down. Can that actually bring you down? Interesting...

The brunette shook her head and focused on the Professor once again. Ancient Runes? She raised her hand, "Is it the study of runic... stuff?" WHAT WAS THE WORD? "Scriptures! Runic scriptures! Or something like that..."

Serena nervously put her hand up "Isn't Ancient Runes just studying the Runic Alphabet?" She had no idea where it came from though.

Xandria entered the room quite nervously, she kept her eyes to the floor and rushed to her seat. She really didn't want to be told off in the first lesson with a teacher, it never made a good impression. Xandi dumped her quill and a book on her desk before sitting quietly. People around her seemed to be trying to answer a question - she didn't even know what it was. . . She scolded herself for being late.

"Ancient runes is the study of the magical properties of runes. Runes originated from Germanic tribes who used them for protection and good harvest.", Chloe responded with her hand raised high not really believing a word she said.

Zara was about to reply to Serena, Nessie, and Matt when the professor began class and asked a question. Hesitantly, Zara raised her hand and said, "In Ancient Runes, we study about the symbols known as alphabet used by wizards before and also where these letters called runes were made or discovered. They came from..." Where did they come from? Think, Zara, think. "Europe and Germany?" she guessed.

... and he was talking in some other freaky language.

But back to English.

Ooooh, Helena knew this one! Hopefully. She raised her hand. "The Ancient Runes are an ancient alphabet, used for magic and divination and... not only," she said nervously. "I'm not sure, but I think they come from Germany." Or... not? Uhh, at least she tried.

On hearing the new Professor's question, Salander slouched further down his seat next to Lexi, pressed his lips together and tapped the end of his quill against the desk. tap tap tap. It wasnt that he had difficulty understanding the Professor-- he was an American in England, he didnt have a leg to stand on when it comes to complaining about accents-- but stock knowledge wasnt exactly his forte, and the most he remembered from Truebridge's class was mumbling something repeatedly as he carved an arrow shape on his table. Which is probably what he's doing with his quill right now with all that tapping.

"Uhmmm.... its about really, really, really old writing usually found in stone slabs that came from somewhere in Europe...." he uttered as he looked up to the Professor "..... really further up in Europe.... like Norway?"

Nessie picked up her hand and said"Well Ancient Runes is a ancient type of alphabet" Nessie hoped she was right she smiled and the teacher and waited to hear what he had to say next.

Thank Merlin he started to speak English eventually. Otherwise Jamie would definitely be wasting a Puking Pastille.

Trying his hardest, Jamie stuck his hand into the air. "Ancient runes is.. reading runic things... runic letters, and other things." He scratched his head. Was he really expecting to pass this class this year? Reeeeeeally? "It comes from.. England?"

Emily slowly raised her hand hoping she was sort of right.
"Well sir, the word rune means "mystery." The runic alphabets are a set of alphabets using letters known as runes to write various Germanic languages before the adoption of the Latin alphabet." And she remembered that from a textbook. Smooth Emily, smooth.
She quickly took out her quill and ink ready to take notes as well.

Charlie raised her hand uneasily but it seemed like the only logical answer.
"Ancient runes is em.. translating Runes to English and is it from.. Norway?"
The Professor was from Norway so it made sense to Charlie..

Alex's eyes opened wide when he heard the professor speaking a totally different language. What was that?! German? Czech? Russian? He had absolutely no idea. He also had absolutely NO idea what Ancient Runes was, but that was why he was IN the class, obviously. He wanted to check it out...it seemed interesting.

He raised his hand. "Isn't it like, translating ancient runes into the modern day alphabet?" he answered. He'd also heard somewhere that you did more complicated stuff too, like rune casting, but he hadn't even begun to think of that stuff yet.

Ariadne bit her lip. She read that somewhere, but couldn't remember now because of her nervousness.

'Is it the study of Ancient Runic manuscripts, translating them into English?' the girl ventured, after having raised her hand.

Having sat down in her seat, placing her notebook and quill on her desk, Evelyn had paused momentarily once she heard the Professor first speak. Right. Why was she taking this class again? Did anyone else understand a word he just said?

Apparently they had. Aw, right. Ancient Runes question about...ancient runes. Well, that should have been obvious. "Ancient runes are runes that first started out as a type of written language, but their magic and divination purposes came soon after." Maybe? "And...i believe they come from the northern areas like Norway and...Germany." Scandanavia. Those places. Kinda failed she didn't pick up one school book this summer to study up on this stuff again.

All Hateya really knew about Runes was that her aunt had given her younger sister a set a few Christmases ago, and all three sisters had used them to throw at each other. She doubted the professor wanted to hear that, so she just kept quiet and listened to the others.

Knox, who could speak fluent French and had attended Beauxbatons, had no problem whatsoever with strong accents. At the professor's question, Macnair thrust a hand into the air. Well, this was an easy question, wasn't it?

"Sir, Ancient Runes are runes. From ancient times." Just as the name suggested. Yeah?

Wow! A teacher from Norway. "That's splendid" Bissy thought. She was at Durmstrang and was accustomed to Sandinavian teachers. That was a very good beginningfor her.

"Hey, Evan" the blonde girl whispered sitting next to him and listening to his words. She raised her hand and said: "Ancient runes are an alphabet used for writing, divination and magic. They were popular among Northern countries but there were some examples in the Middle Asia, the old Turkic alphabet resembling to the runes. But it's not sure that they had been used for divination."

Krissa had to fight back a laugh at the look on the other students faces as they realized that their teacher had a tiny bit of an accent. They might have trouble understanding him, but for Krissa it was no problem at all. Living in Bulgaria for five years does that to you.

Ancient runes might not have been Krissa's best subject but she was adequate at it, and with Krissa adequate was usually quite good. Plus anything was better than potions.

Krissa quickly raised her hand as the Professor (she squinted at the board), Professor Christianson asked what was quite a simple question. "Ancient runes is the study of the ancient runic scriptures and what they mean. The runes come from places that spoke the germanic language, particularly Norway and Germany." There, she had her stride back.
