This was Audrey's favorite class. Just as she had years before, she started copying down the runes. Obviously, she knew the answer. And the answer was simple. "Well sir, that is the Elder Futhark, the runes alphabet that is named after old, as it has been around a long time, and Futhark, the first six letters in the alphabet," Audrey smartly said. Not in the bad way. In the good way. Cause she was smart. Very smart. |

...but then the swish swish of her clothes caused her to suddenly glance down, realizing that the man had indeed changed her clothing into a Viking costume. Ugh! She'd specifically said she was just fine with her regular school uniform, not that she wanted a Viking costume in her school uniform colors! "Ugh!" she protested. Quote:

Yay! Ariana was a Viking! Without a beard! Professor Christiansen was by far the best one. Oh... she was kind of wrong though... *blush* Oh well, take the advice and move on! Now, the table of runes... looked like the Elder Futhark to her, so that was what she said. "That alphabet is called the Elder Futhark." Nice and simple! |
Samira stared as all the other students turned into Vikings. Uh uh. Nooooo way. Samira was not wearing that. Hopefully, the professor would overlook her. "Elder Futhark," said Samira simply, in answer to the question. She slunk back quietly, hoping he wouldn't notice her. |
When his wand had landed on "Ancient Runes" while choosing his electives at the end of last year, Sally had a moment of fear that it was going to be a difficult class. However, as he sat in the lesson, trying not to be caught staring at the Professor's suspiciously light eyelashes (he had to be a Death Eater with those lashes), he was pleased to also realize that this was turning into a walk-through subject. What with all these random twig-like doodlings and made-up words, Sally was entirely over-confident in the fact that he would pass the year with flying colours. No doubt about it. Now, back to those creepy lashes.... |

*snort* xD Nooooonononononooo. NO. Ellie did NOT want to be a damn viking lady. Not at ALL. -_________- She examined her new costume with a distasteful look. Ellie raised her hand and spoke up before the professor could call on her. "Excuse me? Professor?" Or Minister of Norwegian Magic or whatever the heck he was. "I'd rather not be a viking lady. This costume is far too... revealing for my taste." Ellie said in a rather mocking tone. Seriously, did anyone else see how low-cut the neckline was? |

Tayla gave a soft 'oh' when Professor Christiansen transfigured her clothes to a viking princess costume. She chuckled. "This isn't so bad after all. It's actually pretty!" she thought, happy that she had answered the question. She had brought her father's old Muggle celphone and decided she'd take a picture of herself when she got back to her dormitory - and then change quickly. Tayla watched as the professor drew. It was the runic alphabet. She raised her hand and answered the question. "That alphabet is called the 'futhark'. And this version looks like the Elder Futhark." |

Nooo not really. Why did they have to wear this horrible costumes?Serioulsy Fee loved ancient runes,it was her fave subject but still this was too much. How could this new teacher make her wear this? The blonde didnt look fashionable in it at all.Arrrghhh. It was really hard not to glare at the professeor right now but Fee didnt want to make a bad first impression. Sighing she looked down on herself and shook her head.It was just for the lesson. "Its called the Elder Futhrak he Elder Futhark or Elder Fuþark, Older Futhark or Old Futhark",the girl raised her hand,"and its the oldest form of the runic alphabet." |
Sophie was sitting in the back of the room looking out the window when the noise and the moving of many feet made her come back to reality. The lioness prefect watched as Professor Christiansen from the Norwegian ministy transformed girls and boys into vikings. Sophie was pretty content in her unifrom so she didn't ask to get her clothes to transformed after the lesson moved. And besdies the lady viking costume was a bit too revealing which a Ravvie called Ellie Johansson soon pointed out. Sophie doubted that Professor Christiansen would change the ravvies costume though. As an alphabet appeared on the blackboard the lioness prefect raise her hand saying softy. "The alphabet is called the Elder Futhark sir!" |
Penny had been sitting at the back, wondering what on earth she was doing in this class....she had No idea what was going on, totally lost - and when the Professor asked questions, Penny wrote down the question on her parchment, filling in the answer when it was answered correctly... She supposed (hoped) this class would get easier :-( |

"Good. Elder Futhark. Very Correct." He said, "Why has alphabet been called Elder Futhark? Anyone Know? Ja?" He asked. "And other than for writing, what has runes been using for?" |
Evelyn couldn't help but giggle quietly every time someone was turned into a viking. Especially Sierra, since the look on her face was less then amused. However, it was too soon where most of the class were vikings, and they were going on to the next questions. Questions that she knew. Or at least understood what with his accent. Sorta. Maybe. "The alphabet is called Elder Futhark after the first six runes in the set. And...I suppose it's called Elder considering it was the first alphabet before it was simplified to the Younger Futhark." Probably not the first alphabet in the WORLD, but first...rune alphabet. If, that made any sense. "The runes have been known to be used for magical purposes as well. Like protection or...offense purposes." Just as examples. The whole 'divination' purpose of the runes, if there was one, made no sense to her really. |

"It's used for magical purposes too. And in ritual works, which is why they were written on stones at sacred places." |

Anyway, it didn't matter, because Helena still loved the subject. She wasn't completely sure about his first question, but she raised her hand. "I think that the runes were initially a series of sounds, and the word 'rune' comes from 'run', which means whisper. Does this relate somehow to the reason it was called that way?" Maybe? Maybe not? As for the second question... "Runes were used for amulets and charms, or as an oracle for divination, for magic, rituals and spells." She remembered this from her first year. Hehe. And... there was something else. "Can I... have my uniform back as well? Please?" Helena asked nervously, blushing. |
Raising her hand Stella said, "The alphabet is probably called like that because er..." she said pausing for a second, "because it's the oldest runic alphabet." Thinking for a moment what could be the uses of the runes, she said not very confident about herself, "They probably used them maybe for communication and for er... Holy rituals and ceremonies for their gods." It seemed to be a reasonable answer so maybe it is correct. |

"The runes could be used for divination." he said recalling lessons from earlier terms. They also made a pretty fun arts and crafts project. But he'd keep that bit to himself. |

"Is it called 'Elder' because it's old?" The oldest, he believed. Wherever the Furhark part came from, Jamie had no idea, so he stopped right there. Now, next question. ER, "they're used for all sorts of different things in the wizarding world." Somehow, he couldn't see muggles using it as thoroughly. This lesson was hard. |

Seeing as the various students were transformed into male and female vikings, the captain was certainly glad he had opted out of the change himself. Simon raised his hand to offer a use for the runes which they continued to study. "Its called the Elder Futhark because it is the original alphabet using the runes given which include the seven whose first letter make up futhark," he said trying to think of a option for the other half of the question. "Other then writting they can be used for magical purposes such as protection and healing charms," he answered before lowering his hand back to the desk. |
