One : An Introduction To Runes The red headed man entered the classroom and opened the door for the student to spill in. He turned to the blackboard and chalked on there the words: Professor Tristan Christiansen Norwegian Ministry of Magic Then he maticulously placed the chalk in a row after which he sat down. |
Hugo hopped into the classroom. Ahh Runes. Oh noes. "Hello sir," he told the new teacher, who seemed to be from the NORGWEGIAN ministry? Humm. "I'm very bad at Runes so I hope we can start from the basics," he said and took a seat. |
No bags this time, carrying a bunch of books through classes were no longer a good idea. Not when you have bigger books, anyway. Louisa walked into the class and her eyes found the new Professor. Before she greeted him, the writings on the board had caught her eyes and she paused to read them. Without moving her eyes off his name she opened her mouth, "Hello Professor... Chris-tian-sen." Pressing on each syllable. And the young girl sank into the first seat she met, it was strangely empty in here. |
Lexi had learnt to LOVE Runes. LOVE IT! With her bag hitched high on her shoulder she marched into the classroom and with a bright smile she said to the Ministry man person professor, "Good day, sir! I hope Hogwarts is treating you well so far." She wasn't keen on the Ministry interfering here... but no reason to be rude to a professor. Ever. She would tattle before she would be rude. Hehe. With a little wave she then took a seat in the front row and took out her supplies for class, eager to learn some Runey stuff. Mhm. |
Helena entered the class nervously. She loved Ancient Runes... but what if she's not going to like the new professor? Okay, think positive. "Good morning, professor," she said, trying to smile at the new professor. As the girl took a seat somewhere in the front of the classroom, she kind of... stared, at what was written on the blackboard. Norvegian Ministry of Magic? Uhh. |
Jeanne was getting hyped from her first day of class and hopefully she would do well. Ancient Runes was not a favorite subject of hers but she doesn't hate it, it's just that it somehow sounds hard. She went in for her first class and went to take a seat. "good morning professor" she greeted |
Blehhh Ancient Runes. Unlike his first experience with Potions class, Jamie was very unmotivated to be here right now. It was a complete mystery as to why he even bothered showing up in the first place. Well, no it wasn't. He would give the lesson a chance, even though he didn't understand the subject in the slightest. "Good morning, Professor -" his eyes averted to the chalk board, "Christiansen." He said with a smile, trying to look a bit more excited than he actually was. Good job he came equipped with a Puking Pastille in his pocket, fresh from his large collection of Skiving Snackboxes. Juuuust in case. Jamie sat at the BACK. |
Ancient Runes was an okay subject, Macnair had decided. A little dull perhaps, but it didn't require shoveling manure or cutting up caterpillars or any other nasty stuff. It was a safe subject. So he thought, at least. Clutching to his messenger bag, Knox made his way into the classroom and waved enthusiastically at the red-headed Professor before finding himself a seat and perching precariously on the edge of it. "Oooh, you're form Norway," he pointed out the obvious after reading the blackboard. |
Hmm, she didn't know why she still took this class. It really had nothing to do with what she wanted to do in life, and if she needed to know some runes, then that's what books were for. Maybe it was because she hoped she'd see Professor Truebridge standing there in the classroom, ready to teach, instead of...whoever this guy was. "Good day, Professor...Christiansen." Christiansen? Yea, that so didn't sound like Truebridge at all. And that definitely wasn't his handwriting on the chalkboard either. Norwegian? Yea...she was pretty Truebridge wasn't from there either. PFFFT. Smiling somewhat, Evelyn turned to look at the seating arrangements so far...and decided to sit in the WAY BACK once she saw Lexi in the front. Sure, their conversation at the feast was alright, but, that could have just been the bad food and emotionally unstable side of her talking. Right? |
Another claaasss~~! Why was Daichi so excited to take classes? Maybe he was bored and wanted something to do? Daichi swung his school bag over his shoulder and held Mr.Duckles in his right hand. He was NOT going to go anywhere with it! and made his way over to the Ancient Runes class. Arriving at his destination after having walked the wrong way for fifteen minutes, Daichi saw a man standing near the door way. "Hello Professor~!" he greeted with a wave of his left hand. He walked further in the class and that was when he saw the chalkboard. He read their Professors name and... "YOUR FROM NORWAY?!" he shouted in awe. Daichi realised he had shouted and quickly apologised for his behaviour. "S-sorry Professor..err.." he took a quick glance towards the chalkboard while bowing his head. "Christiansen" |
Ancient Runes. Not her best subject, but still not her worse. She entered the classroom and almost stopped in the doorway looking at the teacher. Well he was new. "Good day... sir" she quickly added continuing into the room and taking a seat. She was curious about this lesson now. Norwegian ministry of magic? Curious... |
Selina walked down the corridor on her way to Ancient Runes. She missed this class. She missed her teacher. He had taught her so much and could not wait to ask him how his summer was. But then another teacher sat in her Professor's desk. Who was this man? She moved slowly into her desk and read his post on the board. His was ministry... oh merlin. |
Viola entered the classroom, totally NOT looking forward to this lesson. She found it really boring. That's probably because she didn't find it that easy. She greeted the professor with a "Good morning, sir", before taking a seat in the front. She hoped that this lesson went reasonably well. |
She'd known some of their professors this term would be ministry appointed but as Ivory stepped into the Ancient Runes classroom, she couldn't help but pause. A small part of her had been hoping she'd see the stern but comforting face of Professor Truebridge rather than...a red headed man whom she'd never seen in her life. A red headed man who was also from the Norwegian Ministry of Magic. Realizing she shouldn't dawdle in the entrance way, the Ravenclaw prefect walked forward. If the ministry was here to keep an eye on the situation, perhaps at least for now giving them the best impression was the better plan...perhaps then they wouldn't meddle in their curriculum. Fixing her face into a genuine friendly smile, she approached the man. "Good morning, Professor," Her dark eyes flitted to the board for a millisecond. "Christiansen. My name is Ivory Erised, and I just wanted to say on behalf of the students, Welcome to Hogwarts and I hope you enjoy your time here." With a respectful nod, she made her way to the front middle of the classroom and took a seat with a small smile to those already there. Yup, polite introductions and welcome. Check. |
Arya was sure this class had nothing to do with creatures, and she probably wouldn't be taking the OWL if things got too busy for her, so she didn't know why she was attending the lesson. Maybe because she wanted to see who would be teaching it? Curiosity and what not. There was a bit of disappointment in not seeing Truebridge's face when she entered, but no surprise. "Hey, Professor Christiansen." Her curious eyes lingered on the board before turning to the man himself for polite smiles. Sitting in the center seemed the best idea, and she slipped into one of those seats, smile growing as she listened to her friend greet the man. But no, she wouldn't be giving him the same greeting. |
Serena got out her Ancient Runes book, she had no idea how she would do at Ancient Runes, but what was the worst that could happen. She gave a mumbled Hello to the teacher and sat down on the nearest available chair. |
Quote:
Ahh. There was Lexi. Smiling, he wandered over to the first row, and sat down next to Lexi. "Hey Lex..." At least he wasn't covering her in blood this time. Things were definetly better. Pulling out a piece of parchement, and quill he got ready for the class to start. |
Oakey came walking into the class fully excited for his first of many classes. just as all the other students did he welcomed the professor, Hello Professor Christiansen he said with a smile on his face. He took a good long look at the Professor. He wasn't there at the feast, so this was one of the many Ministry appointed teachers the Headmaster spoke about. The teacher being new didn't matter to Oakey though, he was new himself so everything and everybody was new to him. He took a seat in the middle of the class. |
Ancient Runes. Zara took a deep breathe and went inside the classroom. She saw what was written on the board and looked at the Professor, "Good morning, Professor Tristan Christiansen." Uh oh. That sounded wrong. I should've only called him by the last name. Zara gulped, realizing her mistake and bowed, then proceeded to content herself by sitting on one of the chairs near the middle. |

Rachel walked into the class room, "Hello Professor, Christiansen." she said cheerfully, this class was going to be fun! She saw a girl she had met before somewhere, then went and sat down. She was feeling really excited about all of her classes, but she thought that the only reason she had never liked classes before was because in her old muggle school she didnt learn anything, she knew it all, then the school caught fire because of something, it wasnt her! But it was in a history class so hopefully this would be better than that class! she then saw Nessie, she knew her too, so hopefully she would still be friends with her now. |
Carter walked into ancient runes. This was his first class with one of the new professors. He was a little bit uneasy about anybody that Borr put into place. Nevertheless he smiled as he entered the classroom and gave a polite "Hello Professor." He then took a seat near the back of the classroom. |

Quote:
"Hey guys." he said with a small smile, pulling up a seat beside Nessie and Zara. He reached into his bag and pulled out a quill, ready to start the lesson. |
He nodded to all the students who came in. "God Morgen studenter, er Mitt navn-" and his eyes went wide. "I am sorry." He said in a heavy accent. "I will speak English, ja? Good Morning, students of runes. I am Tristan Christiansen, I will be teacher of runes to you. Sank you to all who have greeted me, and wished well to me." He pointed at the top line on the board. "Ancient Runes. Who can tell me what is Ancient Runes and where come from?" His accent still very prominent. |
Charlie entered the classroom quietly. She thought Runes sounded quite boring but she decided to give it a shot. For all she new, it could be a really good subject. Whoops she was late... She walked towards the Prfessor's desk rather cautiously after reading that he was from the Norwegian Ministry. "That's weird," Charlie thought but said, "Good day Professor" anyway. because she didn't want to be rude. "I'm so sorry for being late,"she gasped, "it won't happen again.." She sat at a desk by herself. Hopefully one of her housemates or William would come to this class. |
Arabella-Marie sat quietly she didnt know the answer to the question but was ready to take some notes if she needed them |
Thomas had no idea what Ancient Runes really was was it Ancient Magical Runes? |

...a foreign teacher? Really? Not that Evan was against them, NOT at all, but he didn't think the English ones were that bad to hire a foreign teacher neither. Oh well. The man seemed a decent professor, and Evan would welcome him as best as he could. Raising his hand, he said "Ancient runes studies the runic... writings..." Right? Right. And where is came from? "...from Germans?" Norway was also a Germanic country, no? |
Woah. It was just a little hard to understand what the professor was saying. Maybe it was a good thing he'd sat right at the front. He spent the next couple of minutes trying to work out what the man had actually said. He'd heard Ancient Runes (not surprising really seeing as that was the subject) and what. So he figured that the guy was asking them what the subject was. Raising his hand in the air Finlay began to spoke. "It's the study of magical runes, such as Ehwaz." Yup. You sound totally nerdy Carmicheal. |
Quote:
|
Ok. Kita didn't like Ancient Runes and she knew it. But she wasn't going to let that bring her down. Can that actually bring you down? Interesting... The brunette shook her head and focused on the Professor once again. Ancient Runes? She raised her hand, "Is it the study of runic... stuff?" WHAT WAS THE WORD? "Scriptures! Runic scriptures! Or something like that..." |

Xandria entered the room quite nervously, she kept her eyes to the floor and rushed to her seat. She really didn't want to be told off in the first lesson with a teacher, it never made a good impression. Xandi dumped her quill and a book on her desk before sitting quietly. People around her seemed to be trying to answer a question - she didn't even know what it was. . . She scolded herself for being late. |
"Ancient runes is the study of the magical properties of runes. Runes originated from Germanic tribes who used them for protection and good harvest.", Chloe responded with her hand raised high not really believing a word she said. |
Zara was about to reply to Serena, Nessie, and Matt when the professor began class and asked a question. Hesitantly, Zara raised her hand and said, "In Ancient Runes, we study about the symbols known as alphabet used by wizards before and also where these letters called runes were made or discovered. They came from..." Where did they come from? Think, Zara, think. "Europe and Germany?" she guessed. |
Quote:
But back to English. Ooooh, Helena knew this one! Hopefully. She raised her hand. "The Ancient Runes are an ancient alphabet, used for magic and divination and... not only," she said nervously. "I'm not sure, but I think they come from Germany." Or... not? Uhh, at least she tried. |
icu too Finn ;) On hearing the new Professor's question, Salander slouched further down his seat next to Lexi, pressed his lips together and tapped the end of his quill against the desk. tap tap tap. It wasnt that he had difficulty understanding the Professor-- he was an American in England, he didnt have a leg to stand on when it comes to complaining about accents-- but stock knowledge wasnt exactly his forte, and the most he remembered from Truebridge's class was mumbling something repeatedly as he carved an arrow shape on his table. Which is probably what he's doing with his quill right now with all that tapping. "Uhmmm.... its about really, really, really old writing usually found in stone slabs that came from somewhere in Europe...." he uttered as he looked up to the Professor "..... really further up in Europe.... like Norway?" |

Trying his hardest, Jamie stuck his hand into the air. "Ancient runes is.. reading runic things... runic letters, and other things." He scratched his head. Was he really expecting to pass this class this year? Reeeeeeally? "It comes from.. England?" -_- |
Quote:
"Well sir, the word rune means "mystery." The runic alphabets are a set of alphabets using letters known as runes to write various Germanic languages before the adoption of the Latin alphabet." And she remembered that from a textbook. Smooth Emily, smooth. She quickly took out her quill and ink ready to take notes as well. |
Charlie raised her hand uneasily but it seemed like the only logical answer. "Ancient runes is em.. translating Runes to English and is it from.. Norway?" The Professor was from Norway so it made sense to Charlie.. |
Alex's eyes opened wide when he heard the professor speaking a totally different language. What was that?! German? Czech? Russian? He had absolutely no idea. He also had absolutely NO idea what Ancient Runes was, but that was why he was IN the class, obviously. He wanted to check it out...it seemed interesting. He raised his hand. "Isn't it like, translating ancient runes into the modern day alphabet?" he answered. He'd also heard somewhere that you did more complicated stuff too, like rune casting, but he hadn't even begun to think of that stuff yet. |
Ariadne bit her lip. She read that somewhere, but couldn't remember now because of her nervousness. 'Is it the study of Ancient Runic manuscripts, translating them into English?' the girl ventured, after having raised her hand. |
Having sat down in her seat, placing her notebook and quill on her desk, Evelyn had paused momentarily once she heard the Professor first speak. Right. Why was she taking this class again? Did anyone else understand a word he just said? Apparently they had. Aw, right. Ancient Runes question about...ancient runes. Well, that should have been obvious. "Ancient runes are runes that first started out as a type of written language, but their magic and divination purposes came soon after." Maybe? "And...i believe they come from the northern areas like Norway and...Germany." Scandanavia. Those places. Kinda failed she didn't pick up one school book this summer to study up on this stuff again. |
All Hateya really knew about Runes was that her aunt had given her younger sister a set a few Christmases ago, and all three sisters had used them to throw at each other. She doubted the professor wanted to hear that, so she just kept quiet and listened to the others. |
Quote:
"Sir, Ancient Runes are runes. From ancient times." Just as the name suggested. Yeah? |
Quote:
"Hey, Evan" the blonde girl whispered sitting next to him and listening to his words. She raised her hand and said: "Ancient runes are an alphabet used for writing, divination and magic. They were popular among Northern countries but there were some examples in the Middle Asia, the old Turkic alphabet resembling to the runes. But it's not sure that they had been used for divination." |
Quote:
Ancient runes might not have been Krissa's best subject but she was adequate at it, and with Krissa adequate was usually quite good. Plus anything was better than potions. Krissa quickly raised her hand as the Professor (she squinted at the board), Professor Christianson asked what was quite a simple question. "Ancient runes is the study of the ancient runic scriptures and what they mean. The runes come from places that spoke the germanic language, particularly Norway and Germany." There, she had her stride back. |
Rosemary stayed glued as she listened in to the Professor before raising her hand, "Runes are an ancient written language which many believed were from the Vikings and had connections to magic..... Hence why many Pensieves have Runes engraved upon them." She answered. |
Lexi raised her hand and shot Sal a wink. "Runes are ancient symbols that have been used for generations to do everything from write messages to provide magical protection," she said with a smile. Wow... that dude's accent was pretty interesting... and kind of hot too. Clearing her throat she scooted a little closer to Salander and smiled over at HIM. Pretty boyfriend. |
Matt stared, his expression blank. He had absoulutely no idea what Ancient Runes were or where they came from. He looked at Nessie and Zara, before back to the front. He should've read up on it or something. That must've been what the other first years had done..Hang on, maybe the guy's interesting accent had something to do with it? "Germany?" he offered, raising his hand. And "Ancient", soo... "Used...a long time ago?" Brilliant, Matt. Nice one. |
The ancient what of the Runes WHATTA?! o_O Daichi had absolutely NO idea what people were talking about! He scratched his head as students raised their hands one by one , answering the Professor's question. He had read his Ancient Runes book before school but not everything. how did they know the answer so quickly!? The young Slytherin leaned back in his chair, Mr.Duckles on his lap from under his desk as he listened. No need to answer as everyone else had already done it. Not that he knew the answer.... |
Ellie stepped into the class just as the Norwegian Minister of Magic stepped up to speak. She quietly slipped into a chair in the back row and stared at him. She didn't like the Ministry of anywhere mingling at Hogwarts. Especially ones from different countries. This was England, not Norway. This was school, not the Ministry of Magic. "They're ancient scripts of magic." She said with a bored tone. "They came before the Latin alphabet, used by the Scandinavians." Her father was well educated in the study of Ancient Runes. He left old books behind and Ellie could be seen sitting in her father's old library, learning more about them. OOC sources: here and here |

Great...a substitute...in her absolute worst subject ever. ...and now he was simply asking if anyone knew what Ancient Runes were and where they came from? Did he even know?. Raising her hand, she said, "The Ancient Runes are the letters of the ancient German alphabet. They're used for...writing and divination." That just about summed up all Sierra knew about Ancient Runes. Again, why was she taking this class? "Oh, and I'm guessing they starting out in Germany?" |
Quote:
"Good morning to you too professor." Savannah greeted. Heehee. Cute accent too. What is ancient runes?? Well, what was the definition again?? Savannah took a guess. "Isn't it an ancient Germanic language or something? Isn't it used in divination too?" Savvy said. "I am assuming it's used in Europe?" She had thought she saw that somewhere. |
Nika smiled at the professor, but when she turned away she groaned. Ugh. Runes. Nika is not very fond of ancient runes. Too many symbols and weird letters. She looked at the professor and then back at her parchment. Great way to start off the year... taking notes. Groan. Nika quickly scribbled some of the other students' answers onto her parchment. How was she supposed to know the answer to the question anyway!?! It's not like she studied over her holiday. No. That would be boring. The usually cheerful and bubbly Nika was actually very subdued in this subject. Heck, it's starting to put her to sleep already and it only just begun. Nika decided to guess even though she knew she would be wrong. "Erm Ancient Runes is a subject that we have to take in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry." A boring subject that we have to take... though she didn't say that part out loud. "And maybe it came from Antarctica or something? Or maybe Mars." Who knows? Maybe Martians like to study Ancient Runes. |
Anasta Lora Riddle was looking on Professor Tristan Christiansen, having departed from immersing in the own concentrated meditation. She was in the room for a long time before, but has decided to find out herself just presence because of her mind brings to her thought on these theme... "So, there is selective course where the subject is about ancient runic originals of magic. Runes there are the personification of the existing world, spells as symbolic meanings like Egypt hieroglyphs from Germany..." |
Peyton's head turned and turned and turned. She listened to what the students were saying about Ancient Runes. GAAAAAAH! She didn't like that subject, it BORED her to sleep. BUT, her daddy said that she had to pay attention in ALL of her classes and being the nice daughter she was, Peyton was set on learning everything the professor was going to teach. It couldn't THAT bad, right? Hey! He had an accent. A cool accent. She liked his accent. Mental giggle. |
Ariella thought for a moment about what she would say for her answer. After raising her hand, she responded to the question. "Ancient Runes is the study of magical runic scriptures." |
Quote:

"Ja," He said nodding to some of the students. "Ancient Runes are symbols, on wood or stone, or anything related to nature." He said, the scandinavian still very think. "It is from Germanic og Norse discent." He told them, transfiguing his clothes into those of a barbarian... a viking or something. "I would transfigure hair, but I hate barber shop to cut it back to original length... just pretend it be long." He said awkwardly. "I am Norse Mythological god. I am Odin. I found runes. Where I find runes?" He asked. ooc: og means and in Norwegian. |
Arabella-Marie was pretty lost so she just took notes and listened to what her fellow students were saying if she was still lost she would read some books on ancient runes in the library after class |
Ariadne wasn't sure, but she ventured a guess. 'Is Odin supposed to have received the Runes from the Gods?' |
Simon nearly raised an eyebrow as the professor told them to imagine him with the long hair to go with the viking outfit that he had transfigured but he managed to stay quiet. Focus...focus on the question, he reminded himself before raising a hand to answer. "They were given to you in exchange for the self-sacrifice you gave," he said terming it to fit as if the professor really was the Norse god. |
Quote:
"Check your pocket?" Macnair spoke up, hand in the air once more as he craned his neck to get a better look at the outfit. Surely it had pockets. "I bet you can find some in there." Yes? No? He was confused. |

Images of dressing in viking clothes and hurling runes at each other were thick in her tiny skull; this class just got ten times better, "Please please please?" |
Kurumi stared at their new Runes professor. Not only did the man speak in riddles, but he seemed to be partly speaking some other language. Fantastic...and Ancient Runes used to be one of her favorite subjects too. After scribbling down some notes on her parchment, Kurumi raised her hand before speaking. "You found runes, or rather gained the knowledge of them, by a sacrifice you made," she said nodding her head towards Simon. "For a specific location, I believe that was at Yggdrasill, the world tree, where you stabbed yourself with a spear and hung there for nine days." Was this man implying that he WAS Odin...because that would be a bit frightening... |
Quote:
The costume and imaginary hair did nothing to help him. "You were given them as a reward... For good behaviour?" Maybe behaviour was the wrong word. But a God could have gave him them for being overall good. This was by far Jamie's weakest subject. This Professor had a serious job on his hands. Why were Runes so special? They were just markings carved into stuff. And who was Odin? 0_0 |
Quote:
"Odin got them from a tree, one he was captured in or something along those lines..." Krissa had heard the story before but she wasn't entirely positive what the professor was asking. "I think? Maybe?" |
Peyton's eyes were wide, the gears in her brain working faster than ever. What did he just say. She didn't whether this was better than being in the scary potions class with Queen Beryl. The girl sat at the edge of her seat and tried...REALLY tried to understand what the professor was saying. OOOHHH! Costume time! But, she didn't bring any viking clothes and she didn't know how to transfigure her uniform into one, yet. Bummer! |
Kita was well and truly confuzzled! Where do you find runes? What? Don't you just... find them? On stone slabs and such like? Ok, he had already said that. This doesn't help! If he was some sort of mythological god... Then surely he would be the one who found these runes? Or came up with them or something? Ok, this was beyond confusing. Kita sat back and listened to the other students giving their answers. After all, you do learn more from your mistakes right? |
Quote:
Anyway. Odin. Runes. Erm... Oh! Vashti raised a hand. "Didn't Odin - er, you?" Was she supposed to refer to him as if she were actually talking to Odin? Eh, why not. "Didn't you hang upside down on the tree for several days and then the runes just kinda...appeared to you?" Something like that? "You also pierced yourself with a spear, I think." Why he had, she couldn't remember, if there even was a reason at all. |
Pssh. Vince could do runes. Runes were easy. Anyone could do them. "You made them up." He smirked and shook his head. This woyuld be one of those long winded classes, and the viking outfit? Really? He laughed, rolled his eyes and rested his chin on his hand. Runes. |
Urgh. Ancient Runes. See, this is why he didn't attend most classes last year. All this was so...confusing. He never had any idea what on earth was going on in Ancient Runes and now this Norweigian Minister was teaching the class and Jimbo had no idea why. And then he put on a costume, which should have revived Jimbo a little but it only made him that much more skeptical about the class. Jimbo just sat looking around and listening, but not participating. He was already clueless with the two questions already asked and he wasn't looking forward to the actual work part of the class. This was, as usual, going to be quite difficult. |
Quote:
Odin? Hmm that was one of the most important Gods of the Nordic Mythology. Another one was Loki but what was the other? Oh, that was not what mattered at that moment. She raised her hand high up in the air and said: "You are the most important god in the Scandinavian Mythology and you are mostly known for your sacrifice to get the wisdom of the runes. As mentioned before me you were hung to a tree for nine days for this knowledge. And the number nine has got some magical attributes." |
Quote:
"Odin, you got caught in branches of tree," she said, mocking his accent. "You hung there for nine days og runes come to you. You make sacrifice." She finished her answer and leaned back in her seat. Really? Was this guy serious? Meh...her answer was likely wrong anyway. |
Mia was definitely having a hard time understanding the Professor but she raised her hand in the air anyway. She was pretty sure that she got the gist of his question. "You traveled many miles in your quest for wisdom. You even sacrificed your eye for such wisdom. But it wasn't until you got caught on a leafless tree and hung between heaven and earth for nine days and nine nights. It was during this time that your inner being grew clearer and more luminuous that finally found the symbols of life's noblest values and called them runes." |

Was this child making fun of him? He clammed up again, the smile fading. Becoming rigid and shy again. "Uhmmm... Ja... you are correct as well." "Uhmmm who want to be viking? Come before me and tell a rune name and meaning. ONE ONLY. and I shall transfigure clothes into viking... no hair." He thought about it a bit and then added "Boys may have beard." ... "Girls too... if wanted." |
Arabella-Marie wanted to be a viking but she had a hard time remembering rune names she sat and thought for a few seconds before going in front of the professor ready with her answer and said "Well Ehwaz is a rune professor" |
Who wants to be a viking? Kurumi wasn't so sure she really WANTED to become a viking...nor did she fancy having a bear...but she did want to learn Ancient Runes. Assuming that it would be impossible for her to just sit there at her desk. Standing up and taking a few timid steps forwards, she stood in front of the man that loooooooomed over her like a massive tree. "S-S-Sir, there is the rune Isa which literally means ice and is the rune of control." No beard please...no beard.... |
Erm. WHAT!? The professor was kidding, right? It was one thing having to wear these awful Slytherin robes, he was NOT about to dress as a viking. And no way was he after a beard either. He never remembered Ancient Runes lessons being like this! Knox remained glued to his seat. He wasn't budging. |

"Well there's Uruz, which means physical strength or speed." Smart Krissa. "Don't give me a beard okay?" She smiled at the professor. |

He didn't want the class to turn into Vikings whilst he sat at the back, alone and regular. Runes. "Fay-huh. F-Fehu?" He said in a very posh tone. That was how he remembered it, oddly enough. The meaning? Think, Keaton, think! "Means... posh, or.. rich. Posh and rich, I think." He came to that conclusion. Despite his hatred of books, Jamie had read something on each subject before coming to Hogwarts, and that was probably the one of about three runes he had read about. Shameful. Can he be a Viking now? |
Norse Mythological god find runes on wood. |
Did the professor just ask them if they wanted to be... a viking? EhmaMerlin. That was so centuries ago and it was nawt stylish at all. This... "professor" was definitely insane and he was nawt transfiguring her into some weird looking viking. Orabelle was too pretty for that. So the weird dude was going to have to find some other volunteer. |
Quote:
She raised her hand and said "SOWILO! It means the Sun in English and in terms of divination it means positive changes and success." |
Well of course Mia wanted to be a viking. Without the beard of course. But she totally wanted the helmet with the horns. They had horns on them, right? "There is Thurisaz. It is the most powerful rune. It can be used as protection. But it also has a darker side and can be used for attack." |
Quote:
"Awesome!" Honestly, Hateya didn't know how her face was able to fit the grin on it. Leather armor and a horned helm was where it was at! Though... boo on no long hair with braids. She'd been trying to grow her hair for a while, and magic seemed like a fast-track. Oh well. 'Story day' means great idea. I'll remember that. ...did she want a beard? Yes. Yes she did. Too bad she didn't know any names of runes off the top of her head. Hateya started flipping through her textbook, looking for one to shout. Even when she found them, she wasn't sure she found them. How in the heck did you say those? "Tee-whaz? Is that... how you say it?" |
Nika quickly searched through her book to find a rune. She wanted a beard! Hehe. Maybe runes isn't so boring after all? "AHA!" She jumped up as she found one. She quickly read through the page and ran to the professor trying to be one of the first ones there, but aw some people already beat her to it. Oh well. "Erm one called 'Jera'?" Nika raised an eyebrow and stated it more like a question. "ANd it erm means uhm?" What did the textbook say again?!?! "Um hold on..." She said as she sprinted back to her book this time picking it up and bringing it with her. "Harvest?" She looked up at him with a look of confusion. What did these weird letter things have to do with anything. "Can I get a beard!! But it will come off right? Because I don't want a beard forever... I just wanna try one for this class! Like an experiment. But I don't really want to have a beard all of the time because beards are for guys and I'm a girl. But it would be fun to try right?" Nika was rambling again... Oh dear. |
Stifling a giggle at the happenings, Ivory decided she had nothing to lose in joining in. It might even be fun. Placing her palms on her desk, the Ravenclaw stood up and came forward as well. "Gebo," she offered with a small smile." The rune of gift and at times even in the sense of sacrifice." It was the first rune that came to mind considering they'd just been talking about the sacrifice Odin had to endure in order to receive the knowledge of the runes so it seemed applicable at least in a sense. Now to ask for a beard or go without...that was the question. Eh...she'd leave it up to him. |

.... Well there it is. He was convinced. More than convinced. The Norweigian Minister had already won him over with the promise of a costume and Jimbo had frozen in shock and delight. But when he mentioned the beard... Well, let's just say Jimbo couldn't get out his textbook quick enough. He didn't know any runes off the top of his head so he had to consult his textbook, which he hadn't initially bothered to take out of his schoolbag. Scanning it quickly, he found one that looked rather like a tree and went with it. Leaving his textbook behind, he rushed over to the teacher. "Fehu. The rune that directly translates into 'money' or 'wealth' and means nourishment or reward. May I be a viking with a superlong beard now, please Professor?" OOC source: here. |

"Mannaz," she said, sliding out of her seat just as the others had done, "means how we treat others, and whether they're our friend or our enemy." Stepping away from him a little, she added, "I'm good with my regular school uniform clothes." |

And she did. Or Vashti thought she did, anyway, so she raised her hand. "There's 'wunjo,' which means 'joy.'" Hopefully she was right because she had already stood and was taking the spot by Kurumi. |
Simon caught Kurumi's nod towards him, smiling slightly as the man confirmed they were correct. The seventh year listened to the rest of what was being said and debated his options in the next step. Granted he was usually one to go along with class incentricities but he opted out of the clothing change, remaining silent even though he was aware of the runes in question. |
Raising her hand, TJ grinned, she knew one, because she'd been studying that one and found she needed more of it. "Ehwaz sir. It means defence, patience, waiting and calmness." Wait did he just say a beard? "No beard please sir." She looked horrified at even the thought of one. |
They got to be vikings too?! Isobel jumped up and went over to the professorperson. "Ehwaz is a rune," she said. "And it means transportation, or movement." Basically it meant motion. She wanted to be a viking! "Can I have a beard?" That would be sweet! :x3: |
