Rosemary stayed glued as she listened in to the Professor before raising her hand, "Runes are an ancient written language which many believed were from the Vikings and had connections to magic..... Hence why many Pensieves have Runes engraved upon them." She answered.

Lexi raised her hand and shot Sal a wink. "Runes are ancient symbols that have been used for generations to do everything from write messages to provide magical protection," she said with a smile.

Wow... that dude's accent was pretty interesting... and kind of hot too. Clearing her throat she scooted a little closer to Salander and smiled over at HIM. Pretty boyfriend.

Matt stared, his expression blank. He had absoulutely no idea what Ancient Runes were or where they came from. He looked at Nessie and Zara, before back to the front. He should've read up on it or something. That must've been what the other first years had done..Hang on, maybe the guy's interesting accent had something to do with it?

"Germany?" he offered, raising his hand. And "Ancient", soo... "Used...a long time ago?" Brilliant, Matt. Nice one.

Daichi had absolutely NO idea what people were talking about! He scratched his head as students raised their hands one by one , answering the Professor's question. He had read his Ancient Runes book before school but not everything. how did they know the answer so quickly!? The young Slytherin leaned back in his chair, Mr.Duckles on his lap from under his desk as he listened. No need to answer as everyone else had already done it. Not that he knew the answer....

Ellie stepped into the class just as the Norwegian Minister of Magic stepped up to speak. She quietly slipped into a chair in the back row and stared at him. She didn't like the Ministry of anywhere mingling at Hogwarts. Especially ones from different countries. This was England, not Norway. This was school, not the Ministry of Magic.

"They're ancient scripts of magic." She said with a bored tone. "They came before the Latin alphabet, used by the Scandinavians." Her father was well educated in the study of Ancient Runes. He left old books behind and Ellie could be seen sitting in her father's old library, learning more about them.

Sierra sat, lounged back in her seat, as she eyed this so-called professor. What did he know about Ancient Runes, hmm? As he started the lesson with some sort of language she assumed to be native to his own country, she fought the urge to roll her eyes.

Great...a substitute...in her absolute worst subject ever.

...and now he was simply asking if anyone knew what Ancient Runes were and where they came from? Did he even know?. Raising her hand, she said, "The Ancient Runes are the letters of the ancient German alphabet. They're used for...writing and divination." That just about summed up all Sierra knew about Ancient Runes. Again, why was she taking this class? "Oh, and I'm guessing they starting out in Germany?"

Heehee. This professer is funny. He can even speak a difference language! Cool...

"Good morning to you too professor." Savannah greeted. Heehee. Cute accent too.

What is ancient runes?? Well, what was the definition again?? Savannah took a guess.

"Isn't it an ancient Germanic language or something? Isn't it used in divination too?" Savvy said. "I am assuming it's used in Europe?" She had thought she saw that somewhere.

Nika smiled at the professor, but when she turned away she groaned. Ugh. Runes. Nika is not very fond of ancient runes. Too many symbols and weird letters. She looked at the professor and then back at her parchment. Great way to start off the year... taking notes.

Groan.

Nika quickly scribbled some of the other students' answers onto her parchment. How was she supposed to know the answer to the question anyway!?! It's not like she studied over her holiday. No. That would be boring. The usually cheerful and bubbly Nika was actually very subdued in this subject. Heck, it's starting to put her to sleep already and it only just begun.

Nika decided to guess even though she knew she would be wrong. "Erm Ancient Runes is a subject that we have to take in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry." A boring subject that we have to take... though she didn't say that part out loud. "And maybe it came from Antarctica or something? Or maybe Mars." Who knows? Maybe Martians like to study Ancient Runes.

Anasta Lora Riddle was looking on Professor Tristan Christiansen, having departed from immersing in the own concentrated meditation.
She was in the room for a long time before, but has decided to find out herself just presence because of her mind brings to her thought on these theme...

"So, there is selective course where the subject is about ancient runic originals of magic.
Runes there are the personification of the existing world, spells as symbolic meanings like Egypt hieroglyphs from Germany..."

Peyton's head turned and turned and turned. She listened to what the students were saying about Ancient Runes. GAAAAAAH! She didn't like that subject, it BORED her to sleep. BUT, her daddy said that she had to pay attention in ALL of her classes and being the nice daughter she was, Peyton was set on learning everything the professor was going to teach.

It couldn't THAT bad, right?

Hey! He had an accent. A cool accent. She liked his accent.

Ariella thought for a moment about what she would say for her answer. After raising her hand, she responded to the question. "Ancient Runes is the study of magical runic scriptures."

Selina raised her hand at his question and responded, "It's the study of magical runes and their meanings, sir." She did not like this new teacher at all. Something was going on with the Ministry in the school and she was not liking it one bit... not one bit at all.

"Ja," He said nodding to some of the students. "Ancient Runes are symbols, on wood or stone, or anything related to nature." He said, the scandinavian still very think. "It is from Germanic og Norse discent." He told them, transfiguing his clothes into those of a barbarian... a viking or something. "I would transfigure hair, but I hate barber shop to cut it back to original length... just pretend it be long." He said awkwardly.

"I am Norse Mythological god. I am Odin. I found runes. Where I find runes?" He asked.

Arabella-Marie was pretty lost so she just took notes and listened to what her fellow students were saying if she was still lost she would read some books on ancient runes in the library after class

Ariadne wasn't sure, but she ventured a guess. 'Is Odin supposed to have received the Runes from the Gods?'

Simon nearly raised an eyebrow as the professor told them to imagine him with the long hair to go with the viking outfit that he had transfigured but he managed to stay quiet. Focus...focus on the question, he reminded himself before raising a hand to answer.

"They were given to you in exchange for the self-sacrifice you gave," he said terming it to fit as if the professor really was the Norse god.

Knox blinked when the professor transfigured his robes. He looked ridiculous.. NOT a good look. Where Odin runes? He looked like a barbarian and was talking like a caveman. Weirdest Ancient Runes lesson EVER.

"Check your pocket?" Macnair spoke up, hand in the air once more as he craned his neck to get a better look at the outfit. Surely it had pockets. "I bet you can find some in there."

Yes? No? He was confused.

Isobel was ready to answer a question. She was ready! But, when he actually asked the question, it was a different story. Her mind went blank. Well, she might as well give it a shot. "At the bottom of a river?" Which he had gone scuba diving to get. Uh...yeah.

Ohmygosh! Hateya stared at the professor for about a second, and then her hand shot straight up in the air, "Can we all dress like that too?!"

Images of dressing in viking clothes and hurling runes at each other were thick in her tiny skull; this class just got ten times better, "Please please please?"

Kurumi stared at their new Runes professor. Not only did the man speak in riddles, but he seemed to be partly speaking some other language.

Fantastic...and Ancient Runes used to be one of her favorite subjects too.

After scribbling down some notes on her parchment, Kurumi raised her hand before speaking.

"You found runes, or rather gained the knowledge of them, by a sacrifice you made," she said nodding her head towards Simon. "For a specific location, I believe that was at Yggdrasill, the world tree, where you stabbed yourself with a spear and hung there for nine days."

Was this man implying that he WAS Odin...because that would be a bit frightening...

What. Just... what?

The costume and imaginary hair did nothing to help him. "You were given them as a reward... For good behaviour?" Maybe behaviour was the wrong word. But a God could have gave him them for being overall good. This was by far Jamie's weakest subject. This Professor had a serious job on his hands.

Why were Runes so special? They were just markings carved into stuff.

...What in the world was going on? Had her professor really just dressed up as Odin? Surely not...

"Odin got them from a tree, one he was captured in or something along those lines..." Krissa had heard the story before but she wasn't entirely positive what the professor was asking. "I think? Maybe?"

Peyton's eyes were wide, the gears in her brain working faster than ever. What did he just say. She didn't whether this was better than being in the scary potions class with Queen Beryl. The girl sat at the edge of her seat and tried...REALLY tried to understand what the professor was saying.

But, she didn't bring any viking clothes and she didn't know how to transfigure her uniform into one, yet.

Where do you find runes? What? Don't you just... find them? On stone slabs and such like? Ok, he had already said that. This doesn't help!

If he was some sort of mythological god... Then surely he would be the one who found these runes? Or came up with them or something? Ok, this was beyond confusing.

Why he had, she couldn't remember, if there even was a reason at all.
