Default Muggle Studies Lesson 1

Sitting on his desk, his eyes on his feet with which he drew random patterns in the air, Jeremy patiently waited for the first few students to arrive for his lesson. His first lesson of the term. He hoped to see many new faces and just as many returning. Well, he was going to know soon.

Behind him on the simple blackboard he had written his name and the subject he was teaching:

Professor Jeremy Zookara
Muggle Studies

Just in case somebody had come to the wrong classroom and didn't actually want to attend this lesson. He didn't want anybody to realize half-way through that this wasn't Care of Magical Creatures after all.

"Thank you for pointing that out, err, I'm afraid I don't know your name." Jeremy admitted, giving the girl and apologetic smile before he continued to address the whole class. "It seems that this whole 'True Love's Kiss' thing is just the romantic version of something else. It's not real after all. It wouldn't work." Hopefully nobody would start to faint or run out of the classroom in tears now or both now. They did know it wasn't real, right?

"While there are obvious signs of magic in the fairy tale like the Evil Witch and her doings, including the enchanted mirror somebody mentioned earlier, the ending is somewhat a more subtle kind of magic. And this is what we'll be dealing with today." He explained, writing "True Love's Kiss" onto the blackboard under "Snow White". "Now, anybody got any other examples of these kinds of subtle hints at magic, also in other fairy tales? Proof that whoever wrote the fairy tale must have had some kind of experience or encounter with somebody or something from our world. And again, I'm not talking about evil witches trying to eat little children. Just about certain things which can only happen when magic is involved. Or magical creatures even." Hopefully they had understood what he was trying to say.
Although Samira missed the last lesson on fairy tales, she had a slight idea of the whole concept. Talking to her Muggleborn friends helped too. She cleared her throat and raised her hand. "Well, Transfiguration can be seen throughout many of the fairy tales. For example...the witch in Sleeping Beauty turns into a dragon. I think a carriage or something turns into a pumpkin in Cinderella..." Or maybe it was the other way around. "I also think some of the tales," more like almost all "Involve the use of a love potion. In mostly all of them, the girl and guy just look at each other and immediately fall in love." Samira resisted the urge to roll her eyes. "Of course, that almost never happens. Also, in Sleeping Beauty, the girl touched the needle or whatever and fell asleep. This could be a demonstration of a sleeping charm or potion." The Slytherin was proud that she came up with all these answers, seeing as how she has never read a Muggle tale, and relied on her friends to fill her in on what her parents wouldn't.

Ooooh the magic of the True Love's Kiss! This sounded even more amazing!

Magic in other fairytales... It was a good thing that Helena read them all over the summer. Hehe. "How about Cinderella?" The girl asked, raising her hand. "When the Fairy Godmother turned everything... pretty for her." Was that magic? And... when the Fairy Godmother's spells end at midnight and stuff like that. "But..." there was something else. "I suppose that all the muggle fairytales have some magic in them. That's why they're called that way." But they should've been called witchingtales or something.

Dancing Through Life

Presley froze up. What did he mean? There were not signs of magic in other fairy tales. Not real magic anyway, just pretend magic. She thought of her favorite tale, Rapunzel. Then she slowly raised her hand.
"Er, in Rapunzel, the tower had no doors, so Rapunzel had to get up there somehow, apparition. Her hair grew extra long and had healing powers, magic for sure, and her tears making the Prince not blind anymore? Powerful magic." Now that she was talking the examples flowed like she'd known them all along. The writers must have known magic. "Professor? Is it possible, that they had simply overheard something, or seen something unusual and let thier imaginations run away with them? Muggles don't always know magic exists. Right?"

Okay, Viola didn't really know if the author had any experience with magic but she did know that the story has a bit of magic involved. Viola raised her hand and asked, "Professor, how about Beauty and the Beast?" Oh gosh, she remembered reading this story so many times when she was a kid and she'd always wondered how that girl could fall in love with a beast. How could anyone actually fall in love with a beast? It seemed a bit riduculous. "When the guy is turned into a beast by the witch and is turned back when he finds his true love..." Viola blushed a little and continued, "It's actually a form of Transfiguration, right?"

"G-good day Pr-professor." she said, smiling a bit amidst her nervousness and scurried to find herself a seat.

Then she saw Connor and Kurumi and her smile widened. She approached the two. "Hi big brother, Hi Kurumi! mind if i sit with you?" she asked.
"Come on little sis, Here's a spot for you." He smiled softly and patted the seat beside him.

"You seem very happy," she winked noting that he had returned to his usual thick black eyeliner.

She then saw Heather enter the room and leaned around Connor to flash her friend a smile. "Of course!" she chirped as she noticed the parchment in Heather's hands. "You STILL need a map to help you find your way around?" Kurumi was really going to have to take her on a tour of the castle again.
"I am happy. Our time yesterday really helped me." He smiled at her softly. Maybe they both needed a little bit of crazy fun. He'd noticed that she seemed a little happier too, and she still wore the gift he'd given her around her neck. He looked down at his wrist and smiled at the red scrunchie with the lion Charm.

And there was the first student.

Looking up from his feet and at the door to see who had entered the classroom, Jeremy grinned back at K-Lee cheerfully. "Hello, good to see you again." Especially since she was the first of hopefully a lot to arrive today. "Very well, thank you. How are you? Had a nice summer I hope?" And as always with the first student to arrive there were a lot to follow soon.

Oooh. New student. He didn't know this one. A quick glance to the front of his robes told Jeremy it was another Slytherin. Not that he personally cared much for houses. As long as Gryffindor was in the lead he was fine with anything.

"Hello there. I'm afraid I don't know your name." He pointed out with a smile, quickly considering introducing himself but then again the boy had taken a good look at the blackboard so that was probably unnecessary.

And yet another new face. A Gryffindor this time. A very friendly Gryffindor.

Returning the girl's smile Jeremy nodded once and said, "Good day to you too, Miss...?" He gave her an inquiring look, expecting her to introduce herself. Hopefully he wouldn't have to make a list of names. No, he was usually quite good with remembering them. Usually.

See, writing his name on the blackboard had been an amazing idea. He should have it tattood to his forehead so nobody ever had to wonder what his name was. Or wear a name tag. Yeah, that would probably be the better idea. Erm. "Hello." He greeted the Slytherin boy back with a smile.

Well, SOMEBODY was excited for today's lesson. Apart from him that is. "Good to see you, Kurumi." And that somebody had not taken their horrid lovely cat along to class. How sad NOT!!!one!!!1!!!. "Yes, he would only be distracting you." And HIM especially. He wouldn't be able to concentrate on holding a lesson when he had to make sure that thing wasn't going to attack him the moment he turned his back on it.

The rubber duck? "No, I haven't. It's hard. But I will find the perfect place, I will." Yes, some people might call him crazy but every duck had its perfect place and he just hadn't found the right one for the one Kurumi had given him.

"Hello there. And what is your name?" Jeremy greeted the girl with a smile before continuing to answer her question. "I'm good, thank you. What about you?"

People had the most interesting ways to greeting him non-verbally. Though, Mia's peace-sign was still the best. By far. "Hello Eino." Jeremy greeted the boy with a grin before waving back at him even though he was only a few meters away from him.

Ella wasn't very talkative today it seemed. Oh well, at least she had acknowledged him in some way. Jeremy nodded back at her in greeting, lazily watching her take a seat.

Why exactly it was that Evelyn, among others, still took Muggle Studies, Jeremy wasn't exactly sure. Maybe she still hoped to gain some interesting knowledge about Muggles...okay, yeah, probably not. But what WAS the reason?

"Hello Evelyn. Good to see again." Before he could turn to another student, Jeremy raised his eyebrows at her upon hearing her question. "CPR, it's CPR and no, none of that today." At least it wasn't part of the lesson. Who knew what could happen though.

The first Hufflepuff. Hopefully the first of many. He liked to have the houses equally distributed. Or at least close to equally distributed. It hardly ever was though. "Hello..." He didn't know her, did he? Hmm.

Mia was...well, Mia. Jeremy stared at her for a second as she greeted him with a...peace sign? With a grin and a soft chuckle he replied, "Hello Mia. You too." Was he supposed to return that peace sign? No, he wouldn't. That wasn't appropriate probably. Not that he was usually giving people peace signs. Whoever they were.

He should ask somebody afterwards. Maybe that was the IN thing right now. Not that he was too interested in that but you always liked to technically keep up to date with stuff.

More students he knew already. Not well, but at least he knew their names. So it wasn't going to be only new people today. "Hello Helena." She did NOT look happy to be here. Not at all. Why did people even take the class when they actually didn't want to be here?!

And there was the new Hufflepuff Quidditch Captain. This reminded him, he really had get back into playing more. He truly missed it. He would have to contact Sam soon or something.

"Good morning, Isobel." Jeremy echoed her greeting with a grin before adding, "And congrats on that new badge of yours." Yes, and he was going to be watching every single match this year. He had more time this term...

So many new faces! It made him grin happily in delight as yet another little girl entered the classroom. He was still missing quite a lot of his usual students from the last few terms but they were bound to come soon. Hopefully.

"Hello my dear. And what is your name?" Jeremy asked the girl with a friendly smile as she seemed to be looking for a good place to sit.

And here was a Ravenclaw. They seemed to be pretty rare, really. Somehow he mainly saw Gryffindors and Slytherins around. "Hello..." His hazel eyes flickered towards the name tag she had just cleverly made. "...Hannah." He finished with a grin for the girl before turning to the next person to enter the classroom.

Caroline looked...a little tired today. But nontheless friendly and excited so he wasn't going to bring it up. Not that he would have either way. Of course. Unless he knew the reason and it was particularly funny. But like that, no, of course he wouldn't.

"Good day, Caroline." He greeted the Slytherin returning her smile cheerfully. So many people here already.

Wow. He got a smile from Sierra. That was something considering how much it seemed she hated the class. Once again, why was she TAKING it in the first place? Oh well, he wasn't going to complain about people taking his class though.

Simply smiling back at her as she passed his desk on her way over to Evelyn and Mia, he couldn't help but overhear her comment. A small frown flashed across his face as he huffed barely audibly before turning to see who was greeting him.

The Head Boy. Who looked a lot better than the last time he'd seen him. For one, he wasn't covered in blood. Plus he was smiling. Both were quite good signs. "Hello Finlay. How's the nose?" Jeremy asked with a smile, realizing that he hadn't made sure he and Sophie had made it to the Hospital Wing safely. Though, apparently they had. Phew.

Jeremy had subconsciously started to draw little doodles on the back of his right hand with the chalk he was holding. Rubbing it now to get it off so he wouldn't get it on his clothes he smiled at yet another set of new faces. "Good morning, y'all." He greeted them before staring back down at his hands...which were now both covered in white chalk. Hmpf.

Simon...was a Seventh Year this year, wasn't he? Just like a lot of other people. Like Legend. Though, no need to get all upset about another class leaving them this year now. They still had a whole term ahead of them. "Hello Simon." Hopefully they would win the Quidditch Cup this term.

Not that he cared too much really. He just liked watching the matches.

Maybe making a name-list wasn't that bad an idea after all. Though, no, that would go against his principles. He remembered names with his head and not with the help of a piece of paper. "Good morning. I'm fine thank you." Jeremy replied to the two students who had just made their way into the classroom.

"Arya." Jeremy greeted the Hufflepuff Prefect - where was Treyen actually?! - with a grin as she made her way into the classroom and took a seat.

Jeremy couldn't help but grin broadly at Amy as the girl skipped into the classroom, seemingly very hyper. "Hello Amy." He greeted her back with a small laugh at her excitement, shaking his head slightly. "I'm good, thank you. And you seem...happy." EXTREMELY happy. Heh.

Another girl he already knew. "Kita. Good to see you." Jeremy greeted the Hufflepuff, smiling at her while absently passing the chalk in his hands from one hand to the other. How many more would come today?

Somebody was very displeased to be here. Who forced those people to attend his class when they so obviously didn't want to? Of course he was secretly glad that they did. Whoever they were. It was good for all of them to broaden their horizon. "Hello." He greeted the Slytherin back with a smile in reply to her own.

As he noticed the Slytherin standing in the door looking a little unsure, Jeremy beckoned him inside. Why would you not want to enter? Weird. "Good day, Alex." Jeremy echoed for the zillionth time today it seemed. But he was happy for all those people who wished him a good day so no complaining.

More and more new students. "Hello there. How are you?" Jeremy greeted the boy and the girl who had just entered with a smile, obviously happy to see so many new faces in his classroom.

The way Legend came strutting into the classroom made Jeremy briefly consider if he should salute him. Mock-salute him of course. But then again somebody might take that the wrong way. So all he said was "Hello Legend" with a chuckle and an amused grin for the Gryffindor boy.

His smile just as bright as Lexi's Jeremy turned to grin at the Gryffindor who had come in right after Legend. "Good day to you too, Lexi. Yes, I am. You too?" Apart from accidentally getting involved in fist fights.

"Hello Ivory." There was the second Ravenclaw Prefect. Well, the only one technically this term since the other one was Head Boy. And Head Boy first. So there was no male Ravenclaw Prefect at such this year. Yes, he was learning quickly.

"Hello Ellie." Jeremy replied with a grin, which faltered slightly as he took a closer look at the Ravenclaw. She seemed upset with something. Or was it embarrassment? Hopefully it wasn't anything serious.

Whoa, people needed to stop fretting about being late for class when they so obviously weren't. Wasn't good for the nerves. "Heya." Jeremy returned the boy's greeting and watched him take a seat.

Another friendly new student. Jeremy grinned back at the girl as she greeted him. "Hello there. Yes, I am actually." He couldn't say why but it wasn't bad so it had to be good, right? Yes. Optimistic world view.

"Good morning." Jeremy echoed with a smile for the Gryffindor. Hearing her introduce herself to another student, he made a mental note of the girl's name. Rose.

Maybe he should have started with discussion Sleeping Beauty instead of Snow White. Would have definitely suited Alex current condition. He seemed to be in danger of falling asleep right then and there. "Good morning, Alex." Maybe he should get him one of his pillows.

Or keep him awake with discussing interesting topics.

Jeremy was watching the girl who had just entered the classroom and...had stopped dead in her tracks all of a sudden. Err. Was she okay? She seemed a little torn about what to do. Was she in the wrong classroom?

Waiting for her to say something or ask him where the library was or whatever else made her so confused, he was quite glad it seemed she had decided to stay. "Hello Peyton. Nice to meet you." He replied with a friendly smile.

Salander...was breathing awkwardly. Err. "It's going good, thank you. How about you, Salander?" Jeremy replied with a small grin for the Slytherin boy, wondering what in earth he had done before class.

So. Many. New. Students.

They just invaded the classroom. A good invaded though. He was always happy to see new faces. "Good morning to you too." Jeremy answered with a grin.

"Good morning." Jeremy echoed the boy's greeting and watched as he sat down next to Kurumi. Oh, was he a friend of hers? Though, who DIDN'T like Kurumi.

Jeremy had watched the girl take a seat without greeting him which was why he was now staring at her, hoping she would realize her mistake. And apparently she had. Good girl. "Good day to you too." He greeted back, briefly considering to ask them all to make name tags like that Ravenclaw had. Would make things easier.

"Good day." He greeted yet another unfamiliar face. Somehow it seemed there were more new students than returning ones. Was that possible?! A quick scan of the room with his eyes proved him wrong, however. There still were more people he knew than ones he didn't. But it certainly seemed like it was the other way round right now. Not that he minded of course.

Aww. Had she just curtsied him? That was so cute. "Good day to you too. And what is your name?" Jeremy asked the little girl with a grin as she walked off to take a seat. Yes, there definitely would be a lot of new names to remember.

The moment Jeremy had got up to close the door - assuming by now everybody should have found their way into the classroom - another boy came dashing in. Oh how very wrong he had been. "Just in time." He commented with a small grin and a wink for the Gryffindor as he closed the door behind him.

Walking back to his desk, he let his eyes wander around the room for a moment, occasionally lingering on a familiar face. "Now." He raised his voice a little over all the chit-chat going on right now to indicate that lesson had now officially started. "Welcome to our first lesson of Muggle Studies this term. If you have just got lost and don't actually take Muggle Studies then this is your chance to leave." They could of course also stay.

As he sat back down on his desk Jeremy continued with a smile, "My name is Jeremy Zookara." At this he gestured behind him at the blackboard with a look that said Obviously. "If you have any questions, comments, requests, complaints or whatever else you may come up with, do not hesitate to find me in my office after class." They would know where his office was, right?

Now, time to get started. "Those of you who were here last term might remember we last discussed the Muggle fairytale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs before we were...interrupted." Yes, interrupted by that Garlic-Ministry bloke.* "Anybody of those who attended that lesson, or whoever else knows the answer, care to tell those who don't a quick plot-summary and the ending of the fairytale? And yes, I want to hear the version with...True Love's Kiss." Yes, that term had come up last year and it was actually a good way to describe it. Grin.

While he waited for somebody to answer, he turned to write "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" onto the blackboard, a little under his name and class.

*I'll assume that's what happened IC if that's okay with you. The truth is RL just got crazy for me so I didn't actually finish that lesson. Shame on me. But I really want to finish it, so here goes. Heh.
Connor smiled. Now this lesson he could totally get behind. He glanced over at his own Snow White and smiled softly at her. True Love's Kiss was definitely something he had been thinking about lately. He looked up and raised his hand.

"Connor Campbell sir." He introduced Himself. "Snow white is a story about a young princess whose stepmother was jealous of her. She asked her magic mirror everyday who is the fairest in the land and when the mirror said snow white, the queen contrived to kill her. Her first attempt didn't work and Snow White escaped to a little cottage where she met the seven dwarfs and she found shelter and friendship there and in exchange for their hospitality she cooked and cleaned for them. When the queen found out she was alive again she gave her a poisoned apple that put the girl to sleep. She thought the girl was dead but it wasn't so. The dwarfs laid the princess out and enclosed her in a glass coffin for the world to see her beauty and one day a prince found her and thought her beautiful. He kissed her and the curse broke and they all lived happily ever after."

"Professsor Zookara," Kurumi chirped with her hand up in the air. "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is one of the many stories collected by the Brothers Grimm." Kurumi paused seeing that some other students had already given rather lengthy summaries of the plot. "In the story, jealous and vain queen attempts to get rid of her beautiful step-daughter, Snow White, who takes refuge with seven dwarfs in their forest home. The queen changes into a witch and tempts Snow White with a poisoned apple which puts her into an everlasting sleep, until a prince finds her in a glass coffin and awakens her with True Love's Kiss. Actually it was their first kiss, so I suppose the correct wording would be Love's First Kiss." Kurumi's cheeks flushed a bit and she tugged on her hair. "True Love's Kiss is the most powerful thing in the world."

At least, that is what the stories always implied.

"Professor Zookara," Kurumi asked tilting her head to the side. "Do you know why in non-magical fairy tales it seems to always come down to a kiss? In the Little Mermaid, she had to receive True Love's Kiss if she didn't want to turn into sea foam. There are many others as well..." Not that Kurumi was complaining. She liked the idea of a kiss being very powerful, though she would never say it outloud.
Connor looked over at his snow white entranced by her. He smiled and thought about their time together. Merlin she was brilliant.

A non-magical person falling for another in the instant of a kiss seemed almost too good to be true. Kurumi still wanted to believe that it existed, of course, what young girl wouldn't?

She then thought a bit more. "In the fairy tale of Cinderalla, the fairy godmother transforms a pumpkin into a carriage and mice into footmen and horses. She also changes Cinderella's clothing into a beautiful ballgown. That seems to be several different forms of Transfiguration."
Connor hadn't thought of that but Muggles had been writing about magic for years. He raised his hand. "I disagree with Kurumi. Muggle imaginations have depicted magic before, besides didn't former Headmaster Albus Dumbledore once say that Real love is the most powerful kind of magic there is?"

Glancing sideways at Connor for a moment before returning her gaze to the front of the classroom, Kurumi thought for a moment about what he was saying. It was true that Dumbledore had said that love was one of the greatest and deepest forms of magic, but they were talking about non-magical fairy tales at the moment and how non-magical people could have interpreted cases of magic and turned them into stories. With that in mind, she was still on mark, but decided to keep that to herself for now as she thought about some more instances in literature.

Professor,” she said raising her hand once more. “Many non-magical stories also have the subtle message that, um, people like us, witches and wizards, are not to be trusted and that non-magical people should be the ones to best them. For example, in the story titled The Tinder Box, a soldier comes across an old witch who asks him to retrieve her magic tinder box from three chambers protected by three dogs. After retrieving it, she asks him for it and he chops off her head and then uses the tinder box to make himself happy.” She stopped herself. It really was a rather horrible story when one thought about it. “Almost every fairy tale depicts witches and wizards as the villain. In Snow White, the evil queen was a sorceress, in Aladdin, the villain was also a sorcerer.

Kurumi set her hand down on the table and a frown appeared on her pink lips. No wonder the Ministry had created the Statute of Wizarding Secrecy. Everything in non-magical culture was telling them that people like her, her classmates, her professors, were all people to be feared.

Heh.

"Griffiths, sir. Danielle Zara Griffiths. I prefer Zara though," she grinned at the professor.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? Of course, Snow was white. But what's it have to do with dwarfs? Gahh, this was making Zara curious, and she couldn't stay in her seat. Then finally, students started answering, and Zara listened intently, she couldn't wait to know what they were talking about.

Wait, hold on. Now there's a true love's kiss. Eeee, what was happening here? Did the seven dwarfs kiss each other while in the snow?

Then the answer started to unleash itself to Zara. Heheh, yes, unleash. And finally, she understood the story a bit. So it was a girl named Snow White who lived with seven dwarfs. She died because of eating this apple given by a witch. This witch was a woman who had a magic mirror and she always asks the mirror who is the fairest of them all. And the mirror keeps on saying it's Snow White so the witch becomes mad and attempts to silence Snow White forever. Wait, was she getting this right? Then a prince came by, kissed her, and she came back to life. Well, that was new. Zara never thought a kiss from a stranger would be a true love's kiss.

Raising her hand, she asked, "But Professor, how did that become a true love's kiss when he only saw her then and there?

Text Cut: Professor again. Hihi

AAAAAAAAHHHHH. More AAAHHHH's. Zara's head was full of AAHH. Kiss? No, please. Nooo. No kisses.

Well, Zara knew one Muggle story. Only one, it was about Cinderella. Yep, it was a classic. Girl with the evil stepmother and two hateful stepsisters. Girl who lost her glass slipper. She raised her hand again, "How about in Cinderella? There was an old woman...who had...wands. She's called the fairy godmother. Maybe Muggles thought of us wizards as fairies." Zara said, wondering how that "fairy godmother" got her wand. Probably from Ollivander's too.

Sarah was a muggle, yet she wasn't convinced by "True Love's Kiss". How could a totally stranger be a true love? She cleared her throat and asked, "Sir, how can a person she never met, be her true love?" Hm, silly question maybe. But fact. she thought.

Fairy tales. Mann. You have to be kidding me!! Finlay had come to a lesson to learn about....fairy tales. Yup. He got why he kind of hated this subject now. He was a dudee....he didn't need to know about fairy tales...and loves true first kiss or whatever...although he did like a nice kiss. He kind of just stared ahead for a few second....yup. This was pretty lame. "That sleeping beauty person....girl woman?" Yeah. That one. "You know...the one that slept for like...forever or like a 100 years....." Yeah. Woah. That was heavvvy. "That must have been magic. I mean...I love sleep and I can't sleep for 100 years. So yeah...that must have been magic..." Totally.

Daisy raised her hand, even though she hardly knew anything about muggles, she had heard some of their stories.
'Jack and the beanstalk, Sir,' Daisy said 'Jack climbs up a huge 'beanstalk', which may just be a plant muggles haven't seen before, after all he planted it with 'magic beans' and also, at the top he reaches a giant.'

Fairy tales and the true love kiss!

Had Professor Zookara become smitten by love? Focusing Sophie raised her hand and added her answer. "In the fairy tale the Princess and the Pea a prince searches all over the world to find a true princess. He met many princesses on his travels but couldn't tell if they were the real deal so he went home without a bethroed." The lioness paused to take a breath before continuing "One day a girl came to the castle proclaiming that she was a true princess. To test her the old queen went into a bedroom. She took off all the bedding off the bedstead and laid a pea on the bottom. Then she put twenty matrasses and laid them over the pea and then twenty eider-down beds on top of the mattresses. On this the princess slept all night. The next morning she was asked how she had slept. The princess replied 'Oh, very badly!I have scarcely closed my eyes all night. Heaven only knows what was in the bed, but I was lying on something hard, so that I am black and blue all over my body. It's horrible!'"

Looking around the classroom for a moment she added finally "The princess was true since she had felt the pea right through all the bedding. For someone to feel a pea through so many matrasses the pea had to be charmed in some way, right Professor Zookara?"Content with her answer Sophie leaned back in her seat next to Finlay.

Mina quietly seat back and listened to everyone around her. She was still taking in everything, but slowly she raised her hand as well. "The fairy tale La Belle et la Bête has subtle elements of magic in it. There are different versions of the story, but in each they mention that the beast was turned from his original form of a prince by a fairy." It really wasn't everyday that someone changed formed, so magic had to be involved somehow, right? "The story also mentions enchanted objects and in certain versions, invisible servants."

A story like this had to have some kind of influence from their world, she was pretty sure of it. Her answer wasn't all that thorough, but she did hope she got her point across.

Okay, so, that wasn't a fairy tale, right? Because it sounded like a very awful story to read, even if the written version of his story was also horrifying in some parts, this one that Kurumi was talking about was plain mean.

The boy still HAD to talk because he had a different point of view, one that may or may not ease that little frown on her lips. Yes, he was looking at you, Kurumi, with a very soft expression now. His annoyance from the class seemed to vanish as a story about someone chopping some other person's head was told.

"See, Kurumi, I don't see it that way," that they're all portrayed in an evil sort of way, "From where I see it, there are BOTH good and bad traits in most of the stories that involve Wizards, perhaps as a way to show that no matter how special they appear to others, they remain human, make mistakes, and fall like mosts," he continued, nodding, "So, in reality, it doesn't matter which world we're talking about, there's also goodness around," he wanted to add something else, "If I'm not mistaken...there was also a genie in Aladdin, which kind of serves as the good guy in that story...and can be traced to us, Wizards."

See? There was good and evil in everything. Wink.

Other types of magic in fairytales... Hmmm... She didn't know many except the Disney ones, and they usually changed things... Though she didn't blame them. She had heard the real versions of some, and one particularly, The Little Mermaid, had left her sad and glad Disney had changed it.

"The Little Mermaid. Ariel wanted to properly be with the prince guy so she did a deal with the creepy octopus lady, making her lose her voice, but grow legs so she could be on land. The magic when the octopus lady stole the mermaids voice could have been an advanced sort of silencing charm, that also stole the voice. And when she gave her legs, it'd be transfiguration.I don't remember how it ended." Though K-Lee was almost positive there was more magic then...

Hmmm....True love's kiss and subtle hints of magic in muggle fairy tales. Admittedly, Heather could remember most of the muggle fairy tales her father used to tell her when she was young.

but as of the moment as the class went zoom with the lessons, she couldn't think of any-maybe except one.

The story of the Princess and the Frog-although she did not really find kissing a frog very...acceptable, but she liked the idea that it could turn the frog back into a prince.

"P-Professor.." the small third year squeaked. maybe the professor would hear her voice? "H-how about the s-story of t-the Frog Prince?" she took a deep breath, so as to stop her stuttering and to relax a bit. "The story has many different versions....but it's main point...is that the prince was cursed to be a frog and the curse would only be lifted by its true love's kiss."

As soon as the teacher meintioned Snow White, Nessie knew exactly what he was talking about. She raised her hand then said. " Um.. Proffessor isn't it there a magic that can only be caused by love, which is what happened in the story i think?" said Ness not even understanding herself.

GAH!

Never in her whole Muggle Studies experience had she been so BORED. LOVE and muggle fairy tales? Really? Who wanted to hear stories about how these princesses fell in love when they could watch those stories on the muggle box? Not Destiny, that's for sure.

But, even though it was a boring topic and she kept yawning during everyone's examples of magic in those fairy tales, Destiny paid attention and even knew of something she could share. She was a muggle expert, after all. Raising her hand, she waved it wildly in the air. "Professor Zookaaaraaa!!" She knew he totally missed her over the summer.

"There is a story about this cat. And he wore these red boots." Which was magic in itself. Because really, a cat who ALLOWED them to put boots on him, pfft. "Well, he belonged to this boy and one day.. The story is really long, so I'll just get to the good part. The cat made his way to this castle and inside there was this ogre who could transform himself into different types of animals. I forget what happened, but anyways. The ogre turned into a lion and scared the poor kitty." The HORROR! "Somehow, which I forget again, the cat managed to trick the ogre into transforming into a mouse and when he did, the cat ate him. Ate the ogre mouse!"

She had a point to this, really.

"So, the magic in the story is..the cat was obviously a kneazle. You wouldn't see an ordinary cat wearing boots."

Sarah thought for a moment and then raised her hand. "Sir, there is a story, about one Princess Fiona. She was locked in a tower and was guarded by a fierce fire-breathing dragon" she continued, "She was supposed to be rescued by Prince Charming, who was supposed to be her True Love's First Kiss, but it turns out to be Shrek, an ogre, who rescues her as a part of a deal with Lord- er- Farquaad." she finished confidently. "How is that possible?" she asked

Selina had to think when Zookara asked his next question. What famous fairy tales had signs of magic in them. Then she rose her hand like a shot, "Sir, this isn't exactly a fairy tale per say, but in Vergil's Aenid many of the Gods possessed magical abilities. For example when Aenas sees the venatrix for the first time she is a huntress and then transforms into a beautiful woman with magical abilities. It's mythology, but the ancient world was filled with myths about beings who could manipulate their environments and conjure things out of mud air. That is magic or the rumblings of it."

Magic in Muggle stories? There ought to be plenty, Jackie thinks as she racks her brains for a few.

'Um, what about Aladdin? He gets a genie who can make all his wishes come true, right? Doesn't it seem like a wizard who produces or makes things happen using magic?'

Stop ending every sentence with a question mark, Jackie warned herself.

'Professor, does the Sleeping Beauty story have any implication towards this topic? In that story, doesn't she fall asleep just by a prick of the spindle? Maybe it was dabbed with toxic potions or something.'

I hope that made sense.

Hufflepuff where they are just and loyal they are patient, true and unafraid of toil

Pennys hand shot in the air again....True loves kiss..uhm, interesting

"Penny Laughgood, First year, Hufflepuff"....then clearing her throat continued..

"Well Cinderella definitely has loads of magic in it... from the fairy godmother transfiguring the pumpkin into a golden carraige, then changing the mice in foot men, and then turning her rags into a beautiful dress.."

"How is that possible?" she asked
"Then in Shrek, the orge turned out to be true loves kiss for Princess Fiona.... Lord whats-his-name was a scaredy cat, cowardly.... Shrek proved he was worthy of her love be defeating the dragon.."

"Sleeping Beauty is another one full of magic... what with the evil witch trying kill her by putting a curse on the beauty, pricking her finger in a spindle.(very powerful curse)..the fairies reversed the curse putting the girl into a hundred year sleep instead ...
the good fairies putting the whole kingdom into a sleep, and only to wake when the beauty woke (serious magic involved there - to put hundreds asleep at same time..to all awake at the same time)...
and the Prince Charming who saved the day and 'kissed' the beauty to awaken, proved he was worth her true love when he fought his way through the briars to reach her"

O___________o

Shaking his head slightly he continued to stare at her for a moment before allowing the corners of his lips to curl up into an amused grin. "I'll...keep that in mind." Yes, since she had been so nice to volunteer and all. For whatever.

Still rather amused by Neptune's offer, Jeremy turned to face a little Gryffindor who seemed to be a bit lost. "No, I'm sorry. But your classmates have explained the story quite well. And if you want to read up on it then I'm sure the story is in the library somewhere." Or not. Actually, he wasn't too sure about that.

Text Cut: Legend + Neptune = O___o *snorts*

Overhearing what Legend said last about him being Prince Charming Jeremy had to chuckle slightly. Yeah, that would definitely have been very interesting. "Well, let's just be happy for Snow White you aren't the Prince then, right Legend?" She would have either been grossed out by his kiss or have been miserable for the rest of her life because he refused to marry her.

Talk about happily ever after.

Nodding and smiling at all the people who had provided the class with the story of Snow White, Jeremy's head jerked around as he heard somebody mentioning vampires. "I'm sorry...?!" Was his automatic reaction, assuming he must have heard the girl wrong.

If not then she had just seriously said that Snow White was a vampire who later on tortured the Queen with hot iron shoes. Yes, exactly. He must have heard that wrong.

Text Cut: Kurumi&Elise

He continued his nodding and smiling until another answer caught his attention. Finally somebody who pointed out the obvious. Even if it was a fairy tale. It was still a Muggle fairy tale which would suggest that there would be NO magic. But still there was. A lot of it too.

Other fairtytales with magic in it?Well there were a lot.Didnt fairytals alsways inculde some magic? That was why the muggle kids loved them so much, because it showed them a world that didnt exsist. In their eyes at least."What about Sleeping Beauty, professor?",the girl asked raising her hand,"the evil witch tries to kill her because she wasnt invited to the princesses birthday and a good fairy changes te spell to make her sleep for 100 years until her true love comes and kisses her awake."There was a lot of magic and the true loves kiss in it.Somehow fairytales liked to make stories out of that.

"Or what about the beauty and the beast?"
,the Slytherin continued,"there is a lot of magic in it too.Speaking teacups and candles and a beast that falls in love with a princess and turns into a handsome prince when she falls for him too."That was probably why Fee had turned into such a sucker for romance, because her mum, even though she was a pureblood, had always read those fairytales too her."Its actually similar to the nutcracker who got hexed and the ban can only get broken by a girl falling in love with him."Every single of these fairytales has been written by muggles and yet it included so much magic.

Jamie was into muggle related stuff, but fairy tales were only briefly known by him. Blehh, he couldn't think of any other fairy tales, but a nursery rhyme popped into his head.

"Humpty Dumpty?" He said slowly and uncertainly. "It's not a fairy tale, but it still is relevant." He thought so, anyway. "As far as I know, muggle eggs don't have arms and legs, and they totally don't mess about on a wall." No one even pushed him off that wall. He just fell, like a complete idiot. "So basically, someone must've done something to that egg. But for no apparent reason other than to watch it stumble and fall." Because if it was a regular egg, it would have stayed on the wall, given it was in the right position. But someone turned the inanimate object into an animate one!!!!!

And what about Pinocchio? He got turned into a REAL BOY. Blimey, there was magic in everything.

Fairy Tales? True Love's Kiss?

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!

This was funny so it was probably going to be a fun class with funny stuff like that. Hahaha. Of courseeee that was way better than any dull subject that would make one sleep on even this uncomfortable desks. Mmmm. That was right.

Tapping on the desk while listening to the ZooMan and the other students about the Snow White and other examples of muggle fairy tales inolving magic, the boy's dark brown gaze moved on Evelyn for a moment who was sitting with Mia and Sierra. Nice. Too bad he was not there as well. But anyway sometimes he should let the girls have their girly time ha? Yup. They had the right for that. And probably they would love to do it especially in a class with such a girly subject involving True Love's kiss.

But wait...Josh halted and stopped tapping when an idea hit him. True Love's Kiss didn't work? ''Professor...'' he said unable to hold the urge ''...i have to say that i don't agree with your statement about True Love's Kiss not working. It definitey works and i have my proof. Apparently those ones that have not worked so far were not True Love's Kiss anyway.''

AAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!

''Aaaand i know of a story called Alice's Wonderland or Alice in Wonderland ooor whatever the title was...'' meh! ''...tis full of magic!'' No kisses though, as he could remember.
