| | Library Reading Lounge As you enter the Hogwarts library, what appears to be a cozy nook in one corner of the main area appears most appealing to the Hogwarts student interested in his or her reading. Upon further inspection, you see that this comfy area is larger than it had seemed on first sight. Spread throughout the room are clusters of armchairs, surrounding magical reading lamps giving off different levels of light, all of which are appropriate for reading. These clusters are perfect for study groups or group projects.
Here and there are a few lone armchairs for the student who enjoys quiet solitary reading, and a number of sofas for any that would rather stretch out and put their feet up. Be sure not to muddy them up though!
A soft glow of light is present throughout the room, with more magical lamps in each possible reading space. Be sure not to make much noise and respect some students' wishes to read in quiet.
One last note, no food or drink in the reading lounge. Happy reading! |

While Louisa talked he mostly tuned her out, but he got the gist of what she was saying: she'd make sure he remembered what he'd read. "'Kay," he said shortly, starting down at his book. His eyes wandered over the page for a moment before he actually started reading. And actually, he did read. For about three pages. Then he got bored and started to let his mind wander. Thankfully though, he had enough sense to keep his eyes on the book so that Louisa hopefully wouldn't suspect him of zoning out. Maybe he could even sleep a bit. Putting on her study face; small smile, bright blue eyes, and the big book on her lap, Louisa started reading. It took her four seconds to get absorbed into the page. That page was talking about Hippogriffs which explains why some 'wow' and 'ooh' were heard from the girl every few minutes.... if anyone was listening.
When Louisa reached the part about Hippogriffs' brutality, quickly and almost too quickly that the big book on her lap fell over to the space between her and Dal (long lost btw) and grabbed another BIG book from her bag titled: (Hippogriffs' brutality)... meaning she brought another reference. Just so you know she was a bookworm indeed.
The thirteen year old propped her legs up on the couch, the book in her lap, and sank in it... literally. She wanted to know more about the subject so.. oh and something in the back of her mind was trying to catch her attention to do something.. what was it? what was it? |

Dallin had his head resting in his hand, his eyes closed and facing toward his book. He had started breathing deeply a few seconds ago, and then he was asleep. That only lasted for a a short while though, because his head nodded forward suddenly and he woke up, looking straight ahead with his eyes wide.
He chanced a glance at Louisa, shifting slightly on the couch because there wasn't very much room between them. He brought his legs in closer to the couch and somewhat returned his attention to his textbook with a guilty cough. He held his head up with his hand again, rubbing one side of his face to relax. It didn't help. At all.

" DAL!" She gasped giving him an unbelievable look. " Are you asleep?!" Her voice was anything but nice. Call it a demand. She sighed, let her legs down and closed her precious extra reference. " Give me your book, Dal." She asked patiently. It was review time and if he didn't study well, she'd find another way. Maybe cast some spell on him to make him concentrate?

"Was," Dallin corrected, closing his book and looking at Louisa. He gave her an exaggeratedly annoyed look. "I was sleeping. But not anymore. Because I usually do that on a bed, and not on a couch in the library." Meh. No, he wasn't in a very good mood at the moment. He hadn't gotten much sleep last night and now he was expected to use his already not-so-good attention span for studying.
With an exaggerated sigh, he dropped the book on her lap. Then he leaned his head back, staring at the ceiling of the library.

Opening the book at the first section and read the intro while he stared at the ceiling... or napped.
It didn't take her long to finish the page and get a general idea of what was going on, " It says here.. in YOUR book.." Emphasizing on 'your' in case he forgot, " .. that Expecto Patronum is a Patronus Charm. "Expecto" expect or look for. "Patronus" patron saint, symbolizing a patron or assistant." She paused sinking the info in her mind and giving him a minute to process.
" It conjures a Patronus, a silvery phantom shape, usually that of an animal, which is the embodiment of the positive thoughts of the caster." She added after reading the next passage. Looking at Dal she smiled faintly, " Got it?"

The ceiling was rather boring. Dal thought that the librarian should decorate it maybe, because there had to be a lot of students that looked at it. When they were bored or stressed or something.
He vaguely heard as Louisa started reading from his book. Blah, blah, blah - oh! Patronuses? Dallin sat up, immediately more interested. Defense Against the Dark Arts was one of the few things Dal actually paid attention to and liked. Which was why it was a shame that they had no real DADA professor this year. And also, the Patronus charm was Dal's favorite spell. He knew a lot about it. What a coincidence that Louisa had decided to read that bit of the book. "Got it," he said proudly. Maybe he could show her what else he knew. Because he'd researched this subject. Surprisingly. "Everyone has a different Patronus," he recited, recalling the information from some book. "In rare cases the animal changes, but in most it stays the same throughout your whole life." See - he was smart.

He didn't roll his eyes. He talked. He didn't complaint. He.. is a Ravenclaw. With a wide smile she nodded, " I think it was mentioned in here but I forgot about it." Which helped raising his spirits? " Now you know almost everything about that spell. There are a few historical facts in here. I'll try to mention some.." Or not. Things got complicated as she went on so Louisa just gave him an awkward smile, " Maybe we can do the history part later. We forgot to mention that the Patronus keeps away Dementors." Duh.
Flipping through the pages, Louisa stopped at the next spell. " This one's called Full Body Bind Spell. Incantation: Petrificus Totalus (pe-TRI-fi-cus to-TAH-lus)." Louisa stared at the word for a moment. " "Petrificare" to make into stone. "Totalis" entire." See? she made things easier. " Turns the entire body of the victim rigid." Gulp. She glanced up at Dal to see whether he was paying attention or not.
He better be.

He better be. Historical facts? Dal thought hard for a moment, trying to keep up with his good streak of knowing things. He couldn't come up with any historical things, but he could remember something. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them says that Patronuses are the only thing that can help you against a Lethifold. Probably because they're a really dark creature too, like Dementors. And I know that it's impossible to replicate some else's Patronus." He smiled.
Now she was going onto a different spell though. Dal pursed his lips, still listening to her. It'd be hard to get out of listening now, since he had responded to her and all. She would expect him to keep his attention on her. And maybe he would. For a while. "I know that one," he told her with a nod. He didn't know what else to say about it.

Aaaaaand him passing the next spell proved her suspicions. She didn't elaborate on this one either, partly because it was boring even to her and partly because her attention and curiosity factor were on the Patronus issue. She was smart enough to sense it!

Ah, so she'd caught that. Again, Dallin didn't want to tell Louisa that it was his favorite spell he'd heard of. He didn't want to be embarrassed about the fact that he wouldn't be able to produce one. So he just shrugged, hoping that she would continue on with the study session and forget about the fact that he'd been talkative about that particular subject.
Soon though, he realized that that wasn't going to happen. With a sigh, he scooted himself into the cushion and looked at his hands. He didn't know exactly why he was so reluctant to tell her this little fact about him. "I just like Patronuses," he said finally, his voice surprising him by how light it was. "I think they're interesting."

Is there a way to find out? Other than casting a spell?" He seemed to know expert in this so.
She glanced down at the book and started reading the next spell… while he thought about the answer to her question. If he knew it. " The next spell is Leg-Locker Curse. Incantation: Locomotor Mortis (lo-co-MO-tor MOR-tis)" She flipped a few pages, " I'm skipping the intros and the history part but you should go through those. You might even use the golden ink to highlight some lines."
" Meaning: "Loco" from a place. "Motionem" motion. "Mortis" death." Her voice trailed at the last word, " It's awful." Louisa should help him study and not discuss things… but she couldn't, it was against her nature. " Someone should make those curses forgotten and remove them from study books." She frowned at the page, " Less darky world." Not a mature thing to say, but she felt like saying it.

He supposed it really wasn't a big deal and he should just answer. So... he did. "Mine's a German Shepard." Which was sort of funny, because that was the breed of dog he'd always wanted to own. "I don't think so; I think you have to cast the spell." He wasn't entirely sure about that though.
He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees as Louisa continued to read from the book. He nodded; he knew that one too. The spell at least. He listened as she read off the meaning of the spell, frowning. Death? That was sort of... odd. He looked at his hands, staying quiet until she had stopped talking. Then he sat up straight again. "It's just a spell," he said with a shrug. "It probably just refers to the fact that your legs are locked - still like death. Besides, it's a good defensive spell. It's relatively good." Hm. He didn't know why he was sticking up for the spell. "I don't think forgetting about it would help the 'dark'" he air-quoted the word - "in the world. We learn about dark things, and we even still hear about them sometimes. It's just a part of the world."

How come I’m so nice today?, Gwen kept asking herself. Maybe Gryffindors are simply nice… and that’s why I’m behaving acceptable? No! This can’t be it… William is a Gryffindor… he’s annoying, the ravvie thought. ‘Well… you’re family is just awesome! That’s why I’d be jealous of you.’, and, after a short break, she added: ‘But thank you.’ Feels good being told you are cool. Tee hee.
As she listened to the girl talk, Gwen froze. ‘W-What?Wait a sec? Gryffindor Keeper? Weasley?’, then she remained speechless (probably for the first time ever). ‘Ron Weasley is your great grandfather?!?!’ and her eyes started going wiiiide…

He wasn't entirely sure about that though.
It's just a part of the world." Louisa's eyes widened when Dal told her his Patronus form. A German Shepard? A German.." You know what it is?" She shifted her body on the couch so that she sat on her right leg and filled the space between them with her hands. Yep! She was excited... very. " You can do that spell!! And you never mentioned it before!" She wasn't accusing him... her tone was sheer surprise and.... happiness?
" Can you teach me?" She pleaded, not moving away from him despite the fact that he might be uncomfortable being stared at like that... and almost squashed. " I don't want to wait until my fifth year." Because that was a perfect reasonable excuse. Louisa stayed still in her position and the books piled on the space between her separated legs, a position totally weird and not comfy but there was something more important than a sitting position; A Patronus in the make.

Ugh. How stupid of him. Dallin sighed soundlessly, closing his eyes for a second. He sighed, reminding himself that he was making a big deal out of everything and that he should just tell her everything. So, he did. "I only did it once," he told her, shifting slightly so that he was facing her with one knee up on the couch. "At my last school. The Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher taught us fourth years how to do it. It took me so many tries..." He trailed off, shrugging. "I did it once, and haven't done it since." The dramatics of his story almost made him laugh. He was a good story teller.
As Louisa moved and got very close to him, he bit his bottom lip. She was staring at him, too. He looked away, not wanting to be persuaded by puppy dog eyes. Soon, though, he gave up. What could he hurt by telling her how to do it? It wasn't like he could tell her anything she didn't already know, anyway.
He looked down at her hands, then sighed again. "I've only done it once," he told her again, just to make sure she understood that part. "I don't know why it was so hard for me the first time - I guess it's just a tough spell. But... you already know how to do it, and I don't know what else to tell ya. You just - you know what to say, right? Expecto Patronum. But you gotta think of a very happy memory. Something that can make you smile just by thinking of it. And with that memory in your head, you say the spell. If it's strong enough, you should get your corporeal Patronus."

I've never met anyone who could do it." Okay who was more dramatic now? " Hey, did you do it in a classroom or in a real life situation?" She was grinning, eager to know more. If he did it to save himself or someone, then he would be her hero... officially. " Oh and what did you think of?" Because she forgot about personal life and all.
She nodded at his explanation, " I do know it theoretically."Duuh, who didn't? " But I didn't mean like that. I meant would you teach me how to do it in real." Another adventure alert. " I don't have that happy memories in my life yet" She scoffed looking down at the books crammed between them. " But I never know if I don't try. Right?" and the study session was forgotten in the excitement of a new spell. Who knew.

Right?" and the study session was forgotten in the excitement of a new spell. Who knew. "Sixteen," Dallin corrected. He forgot that not a lot of people knew about his repeated fourth year. Oh well. He actually started laughing at her next question. "It was in a classroom. I've never seen a real Dementor... or Lethifold. Or even a boggart." And honestly, he was afraid that if he ever did need to use his Patronus for real safety that he wouldn't be able to do it.
What did he think of? He felt himself blushing and looked away. That was a slightly personal question, was it not? But for some reason he didn't really mind her asking. If she asked, she really wanted to know, yes? "I thought about..." he shook his head, rubbing the back of his neck shyly. Then he spoke quickly. "Me and my dad at Disneyworld, meeting Mickey Mouse. All three of us took a picture. Even my dad."
Moving on, moving on. "There's a happy memory somewhere," he disagreed. He knew that if he tried right now, he would have to think hard too. But there had to be a strong, happy memory somewhere in Louisa's mind. He thought for a second before going on. "I could try to teach you how to do it. But... if you're going to try, we might want to go somewhere besides the library. Maybe an empty classroom." And he was so not trying to get out of this study session. He was helping Louisa with a goal. Yeah, that's it.

She took a silent moment before zoning back in to something totally irrelevant, " Sixteen?" She eyed him from head to toe expecting to see some tag or something. " You look normal." Because sixteen people were freaks with all their hormones peaking and blah blah blah. Pfft. She didn't even want to talk about HER sixteen era *shudder*
Louisa nodded automatically, " Anywhere's perfect for me." She couldn't help with her cheeks turning slightly red from excitement and started gathering the books in her bag as she listened to him talking some more. Aaaand she stared at him when Disneyworld was mentioned, " It worked with that memory?" Wow. He either was too happy in there or... he was lying. She gave him a small smile, " It must be a great trip to get your Patronus out. Is it in Florida?" Again, she knew very little about the States but Dal was presenting it very well that she started to like it there.

Because she hadn't said 'if,' she had said 'when.' Maybe she was just being dramatic. That was very possible. "Practice," he said finally with a shrug.
Seeing her give him a once-over, he squished himself into the couch some more. Why was she looking at him like that? He stared at her, silently asking her that question. Oookay then - so he looked normal. "Thank you," he said automatically before he started laughing. "I've been sixteen for almost half a year now. It's good to know I look normal." "How about the empty room on the ground floor?" That was the best place he could think of that they could do it. He slid forward, about to get off the couch when she mentioned his memory. "Yeah, it did work." His voice sounded slightly defensive. "And it was a great trip." He didn't expound on that anymore; he'd already embarrassed himself enough. "Yeah, in Florida. We used to go there every summer."
He shut his mouth tightly and stood up. "Shall we go?"

Savannah really needs a quiet place to be right now. Before she was in here, she was outside by the lake, throwing pebbles in to the lake, making them skip. Maybe she was outside waaay too long. Too much of everything isn't always so good.
After taking a random book from the shelf, she found an empty chair in the reading lounge, and sat on it. Ahhh...Savannah have her good indoor feeling again.
Whatever the book is, Savannah opened it. After glancing the first page, she got bored. Who would want to read about Flobberworms and How to Take Care of Them?
Haha...thank Merlin she got a back-up book! Savannah opened her second book and glanced the introduction page. It's no better than the last one! Who would want to read about Goblin's Revenge? Whatever that is!
Savannah groaned and dropped her books aside. Some social time would be helpful.

She almost gasped thinking about the possible answer: he failed a year. No way! Dal wasn't not smart! He was good... and cool at everything! that was her mind shouting.
Seeing him standing up, she followed throwing her bag over her shoulder. The conversation, though, didn't stop, " I'm sure it was great. I wasn't questioning it." She didn't want him to be mad at her- he was about to teach her that spell. " I saw it on tv so." She was a muggleborn! She owned a tv and knew about the disney thing. See? She could relate...somehow.
Walking behind Dal and struggling with her heavy bag since her lightening charm didn't work on it and she thought they were stuck in the library for all morning so she stuffed every book her hands could touch. But who cared? She was going to find out about her own Patronus ^__^
