A great number of floor-to-ceiling bookshelves fill the library, creating rows and aisles of books available for students to read and check out. When returning books to the higher shelves, just hold up the tome and the shelves will take care of the rest; there's a spell on the shelves which summons the returned book to the correct place. Of course, when retrieving a book, they don't 'know' what you're looking for, so those who aren't yet accomplished in the use of the Summoning Charm may use one of the sliding ladders that move around from bookcase to bookcase.
In front of each set of shelves is a small desk. Students can sit at these desks to complete homework or copy down notes and book references. Be aware that other students may need to access books above you… so mind your head.
You can find any book here that's appropriate for all school years, so browse to your heart's content.

Amber slowly walked up and down the shelves of books, her rat Scabbers on her shoulder, just browsing. She didn't know what she was even looking for.....just anything....she stopped. Why was she looking for books? She didn't really read, only about Quidditch and ways to make mischief! And that rarley happened. Her mind was already full on those subjects, so she left the library. Then as she was walking back to Gryffindor tower, she remembered why she was in the library. A herbology assignment. She laughed to herself, and walked back to the library feeling silly.

Scanning the shelves for any sign of a book about music, Zara patiently searched. It was, after all, for her mum. Writing a musical composition was not an easy job and definitely not something that can be accomplished in one day. But she was trying her best to do so. "Let's see...Music, music. Where are you?" Zara repeated over and over while looking.
Finally, she spotted a couple of books that were exactly what she was looking for. "Aha! Gotcha." she said as she took them out of the shelves and tucked them under her arm as she made her way toward the reading lounge, humming a pleasant tune on her way.

| Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Oakey dragging Nessie along with him stopped when the piece of parchment came to a halt at one of the bookshelves. the parchment went a few feet over there heads and stopped once again. the book they were looking for was high up on the bookshelves. They'd need to use a ladder to retrieve it.

She had to fight her urge to get other books that caught her eye: Common Magical Ailments and Afflictions, Achievements in Charming, Important Modern Magical Discoveries, Weird Wizarding Dilemmas and Their Solutions, and more. "I'll check them later," she thought.
Finally, she reached a section full of books with Hogwarts term dates embedded on their spine. "Right...I forgot I don't know when my grandmother attended Hogwarts." She bit her lip. "I think I need to go see the librarian. Ask her for a directory or something. How about you, Ari? D'you know when your grandma was here?"

Gwen started feeling good. She was in one of her favourite places EVER! She started exploring the shelves and reading the title of each book, and, if it seemed interesting, she also began reading the first and last page of it.
Having already noticed interesting books, she tried to remember as many titles as possible. Good…I won’t get bored around here…

'So if you know when your grandma was born, it should be fairly easy from there.' Ari explained. 'This is so exciting!' she added. 'I'm very curious about that locket of yours!' Yeah, she was.

Whoops, forgot about Runes homework, Charlie thought as she hurried back to the bookshelves looking for Spellman's Syllabary. After about fifteent minutes of scrambling his hand through the hundreds of books, she concluded defeat and headed away to the Reference desk to ask when she could get the book. Her homework had to be done soon. | |

Stella entered the library, with a small bag in her hand. "Time to get to work," she sighed to herself. She put her small bag on a round table, and began looking for books about the Elder Futhark. Ariadne found a picture of Griselda Marchbanks from her last year at Hogwarts, with her Head-Girl badge. She was surprised to notice how much she resembled her great-grandmother physically. Same dark brown eyes and dark hair. Same thin-lipped smile. Griselda Marchbanks had never been beautiful, but she had a sort of very lady-like gracefulness. Ari only hoped she had inherited part of her wisdom too. And there was another photo, of her great-grandmother and the Head Boy, who was a Slytherin...a Malfoy?! 'Interesting...I wonder who he was.' the firstie said out loud. 'Oh, I'm so curious about that locket. If we don't find anything on that in the yearbooks, we can ask the librarian to help us find a book about magical artefacts and jewelry.' Ariadne suggested. 'Did your grandmother ever tell you for how long she'd had the locket in her possession?' It would help a lot to know if she'd had it in school or acquired it in later days.

Ah yes, Zara was once again back inside the library the next day. I think she's even grown to love this place. Simply because there was so many books. Almost as many as the ones back at her mansion.
She scanned the shelves, looking at the titles of the books, searching for one that has something to do with Ancient Runes. 'Oh crud! I almost forgot, there was another homework for Arithmancy and History of Magic. Guess I'll have to do this one first. I'll do the others once I'm done,' she thought, still searching. Finally, she decided she couldn't see any books on the bottom row, she climbed up the ladder and looked at the books further above.
