The History of Magic Classroom has changed alot since the first lesson! It has been charmed to look like the deck of an old pirate ship. There are still walls of course but the setting of everything in the room looks like the front of a ship. You can hear the ocean and birds just like if we were sailing away. There is even an occasional burst of wind that livens up the room a little bit. Nothing too crazy, but just enough that you swear you can hear the sails billowing above you. It is very magical and exciting.
There are still desks scattered around the ship's deck. Feel free to sit wherever you would like.
The professor has written a message on the board that is enchanted to scribble out in a messy but readable handwriting and stay for a few minutes and then erase and start again:

Ahoy t' Lesson Two: A Pirate's Life fer me!
Captain Gemma Cerulean
The Professor can be found at the door shaking everyone's hands as they enter the door dressed in her Pirate outfit. As you enter she greets you with a firm handshake or a pat on the bag and a hardy, "ARGGGG Matey!"
SPOILER!!: Gemma in Pirate Garb...haha...
OOC: Once again I'm sorry for the delayed start...yesterday our internet went down and I just couldn't force myself to post a new class from my phone...AHHHH!!!....so here we go!....
Please come in and have a seat. You may chat but keep it to a minimum. Remember that when class starts, you need to cut out chatting. Also don't post yourself coming in late, Gemma hates late arrivals and will not give you a warning, she will deduct points from the first time you are late.
I'm going to give you a few hours to get settled so I'll see you a in a little while!!! *huggles you all*
The professor smiled and as the students started listing the pirates, their individual pirate names disappeared on the board and were replaced with the list of Historical and Fictional Pirates in history.
She glanced out at the students, "Let's add a couple of more names up there." she said with a flick of her sword and slowly a few more names were added to the list.
After checking to make sure the names were added, she turned back to the students, "I'm sure many of you have heard the legends associated with Pirates and understand what they are. Like I mentioned before, Pirates are an important part of the wizarding and muggle world and have helped shape our history in many ways. " she paused for a second and then continued, "Pirates have influence the history of magic by through the many pirate legends and stories of different mystical and magical events that often surrounding the stories associated with pirates. Muggles thought these stories were just fables or imaginations, but we know that they were actually events of magic or magical creatures. There are plenty of instances that it was apparent that some pirates were actually wizards. There are other instances that the muggle pirates had encounters with actual magical creatures." she let that sink in for a few seconds.
"A great example of this would be muggle pirates running across a creature that puzzled them known as a mermaid....we are lucky to have a little knowledge of mermaids since they do inhabit our lake and occasionally we get to interact with them." she said with a little nod up and down.
"Can anyone think of another example of either pirates encountering magical creatures or examples proving that a pirate was a wizard?" she asked. She knew this would have to make some of them think.
OOC: Have fun thinking of answers for this one. You can mention anything that could be interpreted as magic. Think about movies and crazy legends that you might have read about or seen. You can say that any of the pirates were wizards as long as you have a creative answer to back it up. Remember Gemma is watching so not chatting. Have fun!
Wiliam raised his hand."Well in Porates of The Carribean- On Stranger Tides- the mugglee movie with Jack Spaoorow ,there wasa mermaid named Serena who had been caught by Blackbeard" William told the profeeor." She was a bad mermaid who ended up being nice to one of the piirates who saved her and she actually saved him, too" Wiliam said to the profesor " They needed a mermaid's tear for the fountain of youth but Captain Jack Sparrow gave it to Blackbeards daughter to keep her alive and Blackbeard died" Willaim explained to the professor.
" The magic is in the mermaid's tear and the magic is also the Fountain of Youth' William smiled.
Alfie gave a smile as she watched all of the pirate-y things happening in the classroom, listening curiously as the Professor explained how many things pirates went through were a result of magical presence. Interested further, the girl listened as the Professor asked for more suggestions of pirate things that might have resulted from magic. Alfie raised her hand hesitantly after thinking for a moment, "Davy Jones's Locker is a big myth," she announced softly with a small smile. "I mean, there are thousands of legends about it and what it is and pirates being exiled there."

Eino's head jerked to the side as soon as he heard someone mention the same person he did. He was surprised to know other people were familiar with Sir Francis Drake, and possibly his great achievements? Was she also a fan of Elizabethan history? She was... so pretty. He stared at her for a couple of minutes as the rest of the of the class continued to suggest other pirates. Her eyes, her hair, her skin, her voice... What is happening? He was drooling.
He momentarily snapped out of it when the professor asked another question, but now he was nervous. All of the sudden it was like his tongue had enlarged, his throat was dry, and he hot. He tried to fan himself with his hand, then parchment, then loosened the collar of his shirt. Finally he raised his hand "Professor, Sir Francis Baker-- I mean, Drake! Uh.. Um, he lead the first English circumnavigation, which was extremeness difficult considering their resources at the time so it is possible he used magic to do so. He also played a major role in the destruction of the Spanish Armada. He somehow managed to send fire-ships directly to the Armada to destroy them. It always seemed strange to me that he was so successful at it. I suspect he used magic to create the fire and navigate the ships." He took a deep breath and tried to look at the Slytherin girl. Was she looking at him?
Er...Samira pondered this. She didn't know much about pirates, but decided to give it a shot. "Professor, don't some pirates use a fountain of youth? This could be like a deaging potion." Yes, that seemed acceptable. "Or, some pirates are "attacked" by a monster called the Krakan, which is really just the Giant Squid, like in Hogwarts Lake."

Uhhhh.
Was this History of Magic or Muggle Studies?! Sierra was honestly starting to wonder. Were these names, all these pirates and all these stories to go along with them, parts of Muggle books? If so, how was she, a pureblood, meant to know them?
...blahhh.

Well, she could always cheat off the Ravenclaw again...
...or not. Ewww, was he drooling?! ...and staring at her?! She gave the Ravenclaw a slight look--he looked like a flobberworm right now. "What?!" she hissed at him, her eyes looking toward the professor to make sure she wasn't looking. Then a question was asked, and the flobberworm looked away.
Eww. See if she ever cheated off a Ravenclaw again. They had odd reactions to it, it seemed...
Ugh. So now she had to come up with an answer on her own, and she had nothing. Blahhh. "Well, it's obvious that the pirates with lots of gold are also wizards," she said, raising her hand in the air. She lowered it before adding, "There's no way any Muggle can get away with stealing that much money." She paused and eyed the Ravenclaw boy again. Was he...alright?"Anyway, so maybe they're using Summoning Charms or Disillusionment Charms."
Riiiight. She'd pretty much gone on and on about nothing, hoping there'd be answer in there somewhere.

Right well all this pirate lingo was a bit hard to understand so Nika raised an eyebrow. All she said was Captain Crunch and now apparently she's looking fer Jean LaFoote? Huh? Okay well Nika just sent Mikey a head nod and two thumbs up. That should make it look like she knew what he was talking about.
WAIT! She knew what he was talking about! It was from one of the commercials. She let out a small gasp of realization and then nodded faster and her smile became more confident.

Nika smiled when she saw that the professor actually wrote down Captain Crunch. She turned to Zara who had winked to her and beamed back with a cool head nod. Ahhh yeaaa Nika's got it going on!
Now to think of a magical creature or something? She wanted to stick with captain crunch but she couldn't think of anything! "Erm well I don't know if this has arr anything to do with the answer yer lookin' fer but erm-- Captain' Crunch could turn land lubbers into his cereal and make them appear on his ship." Does that count as magic...?

Ariella raised her hand. "There are many instances in which pirates have accomplished unusual tasks. For example, Long John Silver from Treasure Island was said to kill a man named Tom with only one hit with a pistol, which I think is a little bit suspicious. How could a human be that strong? Also, several other pirates have had encounters with dragons and have destroyed them." Ariella stopped for a few seconds to think. "Could it be possible that certain pirates could be a different kind of magical creature? Maybe not witches and wizards, but maybe something else?" Wow. That sounded like a stupid question. And she forgot her pirate lingo. Oh well.

Macy liked this teacher so far, she really did, and as much as she hated history class, this was proving to be enjoyable. However, she had drawn a blank. WHUUUT.
The girl raised her hand timidly. "Well I think there was a story I heard one time about singing ladies on an island that lured fishermen in, and... and ate them. I think." Except that had nothing to do with pirates. Just oceans and islands. "And then there's cannon balls. I mean, in movies and stuff the cannonballs always hit the other ship. It would be nearly impossible to hit your enemy all the time," she blurted out. "And parrots don't talk either." Or did they? Maybe it was a fwooper disguised as a parrot.
Hey, it made sense to her. Pfft. Talking parrots. PREPOSTEROUS.

Jacob stared at her... there was an example sitting right here in class. Was she blind. She was teaching them about pirates... and She didn't even know of the Blunt Family. What a disgrace. The Blunt Family... occupiers of the Isle of Blunt, and current holders of the Queen Anne's Revenge.
Jacob looked at the woman and raised his hand. "I guess that I could be a living example." he said calmly. "I was raised on a pirate ship. Never knew I was a wizard though... Parents were a complete mess when they found out." It was true. They practically disowned him.
But this was getting him thinking. His Grandfather never thought twice about it. It was like he knew all along. Had He? Could he have known that there was magical blood mixed with that of pirates. The Man had never been shocked when he came home either... Jacob always had stories. It was like he'd already known about Mermaids and Kelpies.
Selina Red Jenny Kidd thought hard about the Professor's question. Where there any stories that she knew that embodied or contained the presence of magic? Well, there was the one story that her grandfather always played on a rusty little box called a DVD PLAYER. She loved having one grandparent who was a Muggle because she learned so much. Now what was the name of that story? Ah yes, Pirates of the Caribbean. Red Jenny raised her hand and answered, "Ma'am there is this one story my grandfather always shows me- Pirates of the Caribbean. There is a part that involves something the Muggles call zombies. In my opinion, they are just like the inferi that we have in the Muggle World. All of the people are saved from death aboard Davvy Jones ship and they are his drones like inferi are. Plus they are dead."
"Can anyone think of another example of either pirates encountering magical creatures or examples proving that a pirate was a wizard?" she asked. She knew this would have to make some of them think.

Aiden has never heard much about pirates. It is quite rare to hear about them in the Wizarding World. Therefore, she has not much knowledge about them.
"The Flying Dutchman?"answers Aiden briefly and hesitantly with a calm, low voice."Legend has it that it is a ghost ship that can never make port,"she pauses before continuing."I've heard that sighting it brings bad omen."

Someone already mentioned the Kraken. Nutz! Salander half raised his hand before uttering "Uhm some pirates or at least a member of their crew probably knew of some weather spells-- you know wind in their sails, create mists of fog, even conure a whirlpool if needed?" Heck if he was on a ship thats what he'd do.
Yeah thats what crazy is, when its broken you say theres nothing to fix++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++And you pray that everything will be okay, while you're making all the same mistakes
The professor smiled as the students one by one finished up the little quiz. She flicked her sword and all of the papers with their pirate names shot into the air and flew towards the board. As they reached the board, it looked as though they were absorbed into the board and then...one by one...each person's name and pirate name was listed across the board in an old fashioned type handwritting.

Gemma turned to watch and once everyone's name was done being written out on the board, she turned back to the class and with a smile said, "Arg! Ye be some strong pirate names!" she said with a little wink as she held up her sword and pointed it out at the classroom.
She put her sword down on the handrail in front of her and smiled suddenly talking like herself again, "Hello everyone! And welcome again to Lesson Two of History of Magic! This week we will be covering a subject that is rooted in both Magic and Muggle history. This is something that just recently has sparked the interest of many wizards here at Hogwarts and in the Wizarding Community with the arrival of our mystery ship in the lake..." she said motioning with her hand out the window that faced the mystery ship.
She paused and then glanced across the faces of the students, "Ay! I be talkin' about Pirates!" she said with a smile and her best pirate accent.
"Pirates are something that can be found in both Muggle and Wizarding history. And in both accounts are often linked to some kind of magic. In the wizarding world, most of the magic that the pirates used is easily explained. In the Muggle world, the magic was a mystery in their stories." she said with a smile.
"I had you take the pirate name quiz just as something fun...don't worry I won't call any of you by those names." the professor said with a little nod up and down. "But before we get too far into pirates, can anyone name any famous or even fictional pirates from either the wizarding or muggle world and stories?" she said looking out into the crowd.
OOC: Please have fun listing these pirates. They can be anything from movie pirates to real pirates to fairy tale pirates to anything. Please limit your answers to one to give the others a chance to answer! I'll give you a little bit of time to get answers in! Don't forget to raise your hand first! And remember there should be no talking/chatting cuz Gemma is stalking watching you...

Pirates and the magical creatures? Hmm..Freya raised her hand "Professor. Umm..I mean Cap'n Cerulean. How about Calypso?" she asked and continued her answer. "The pirates were believe that Calypso was goddess of the sea that help them but the fact Calypso was a nymph." Nymph was a magical creatures, right? "And in one of the muggle movie Calypso was trapped into a human form and she become a witch that help the pirates in their journey." she said.

Uhh there was too much pirate-talk for Helena.
And now... pirates who were wizards? Hmm. "How about Edward Low?" The guy who lived around 1700? "He was known for his vicious tortures. Maybe he was a... dark wizard? Because his methods were described as having "done credit to the ingenuity of the Spanish Inquisition in its darkest days"." Or something like that.

Kurumi thought for a moment and listened to what the others had to say about the question posed. One thing that kept sticking with her was the image of a pirate with an eye patch. She glanced over at Eino who had been stumbling around with them over both his eyes, and was surprised to see that he had taken them both off and was not looking all googly eyed at Sierra.
Awkward…really awkward…
Kurumi then turned her attention back to the front, her thoughts still on the eye patches, and picked up one of Eino’s. “Perhaps many of those pirates who wore these were actually trying to hide the fact that they possessed magical eyes like Alastor Moody had,” she said as she waved the eye patch around to make sure that everyone saw what she was referring to. “Either that, or perhaps they had eye patches that were charmed to be see through. When one performs a spell, eye contact is essential and in using an eye patch it could make them appear as less of a threat. I am not sure if pirates were really concerned with trying to discover the identities of pirates or not, but such small details would certainly make a person look like less of a threat. Peg legs may have even been a Transfiguration spell.”
Kurumi put her hand down. The eye patch thing sounded like something Eino would have said – and probably would have – if he were not drooling at the moment.

"Cap'n, how 'bout Cap'n Hook? He's got a clock/watch and if its hands go backwards he will get younger, and if it goes frontwards he will get older, right??"
Did you just lose something? The GAME? Sorry... 'Justin Bieber, he is the man!' U mad, Felton!?

Ummmm.... Magical things...? 'Hey, does Peter Pan count, 'cause he could, like, fly? Was he a wizard? Oh, wait that's fictional!' Rose grinned stupidly as she realised what she had said...
Janice grinned as her one of her partners in Potions answered.
"It's okay, my answer is also from Peter Pan. Besides, Tinker Bell the fairy made Peter fly, right? Maybe she'd using Wingardium Leviosa, or other levitation spells but indirectly it's saying that there are wizards in there!"
Brielle smiled at the name written by the side o her desk, "Black Grace Kidd" as much as she hated some parts of her history, she was currently LOVING the lesson. For what other classes gave you a chance to have other names?
She bit her kip in concentration, trying to think of legends she had heard about pirates and the seas. "Well, Professor..." she said, a bit weaker at first. "Won't the sword that Blackbeard was said to carry be considered magical? Since as far as I know, no other sword in the muggle world would have the ability to move and control ships..." she finished, leaning back down to her chair.
Gaahh, she had no idea whatsoever what to answer to that. Besides her one and only knowledge about one pirate, and she didn't even know her story. GAHH, why was she famous? Anne Bonny? Wait, was that the right spelling? Oh well.
Zara began to run through her mind what she could possibly say as she played with her quill, twirling them between her fingers. Then she raised her hand, quill still there and the ink splattered on her face. Great. Just Great.
Trying to wipe it off, she began to recite. "Uhh, there's uhm," right, what on earth would she say? "They do have hooks as hands, those eyepatches in their eyes, and that one-legged whatever. Maybe they magicked themselves to look like that so they'd be unique and not just some bunch of sailors on a ship. Or probably to disguise themselves, so other wizards would leave 'em alone or sumthin."
So please take a few minutes to take the quiz on your desk. When you are done finding your pirate name, please write it on a piece of parchment and put it on the edge of your desk for everyone to see.

"Is Gulliver from the muggle book Gulliver's Travels, a pirate?" She asked quietly.

"Can anyone think of another example of either pirates encountering magical creatures or examples proving that a pirate was a wizard?" she asked. She knew this would have to make some of them think.
Charlie sat back in her seat and thought...Nope.. She couldn't think of anything that hadn't already been mentioned.
Dude. The Pensevies aint got nothing on you. Aslan is the God
Amy put up her hand, the idea of sirens professor, which came from the mermaid, if you like, a primitive version she continued, before feeling very unpiratey with the posh words, arrr, and um, like, yeah, DAVY HEARTS LOCKER. Yeah, that, Davy Hearts Locker Professor, which is a ledgend that like seals a pirate to the sea and he'll die if he leaves or something along that line she finished up mumbling, which could be based on, uhhh, I dunno, like the opposite of a port key? She finished lamely

My pirate name is:
Captain Grace Flint
(Even though there's no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you're the one in charge. Like the rock flint, you're hard and sharp. But, also like flint, you're easily chipped, and sparky. Arr!
Anasta L. Riddle has got her own pirate name from piratequiz.com).
By Thunder! There are om my mind somebody special like Bloody Mary Flint-Isabella Evans and
Dread Pirate Liz-Amy Samson.
Like Slytherin are their charms.

A great example of this would be muggle pirates running across a creature that puzzled them known as a mermaid....we are lucky to have a little knowledge of mermaids since they do inhabit our lake and occasionally we get to interact with them.
Ye, pirates are an important part of the wizarding and muggle world and have helped shape our history in many ways.
May yer sails stay full and yer powder dry!
In 1577, Queen Elizabeth of England ordered wizard Francis Drake to make another raid on the ships of the Spanish troops, where so diligently to develop new land Spaniards and collected treasures.
On my mind enter film ''Fog'' else, where pirates was brave and honest in the sale, save pirates style in casual life day by day, and so also by the night.
Have fun!
Simon decided to have a guess at someone. "I would say William Jackson because he somehow led a team of 500 men that captured a town, he then threatened to burn it down until he got a ransom surely no muggle could take over a town with just 500 men." Simon looked shocked at his knowledge, hadn't it take thousands of men to take over towns in world war 2.

Penny took the quiz to determine what her name would be...
SPOILER!!: Pirate name
Your pirate name is:
Black Penny Rackham
Like anyone confronted with the harshness of robbery on the high seas, you can be pessimistic at times. You have the good fortune of having a good name, since Rackham (pronounced RACKem, not rack-ham) is one of the coolest sounding surnames for a pirate. Arr!
Putting the parchment slip on her desk, she then thought about Pirates.. sticking her hand in the air, she spoke... "Uhm, Professor there was a woman that I know of who was a pirate....Grace O’Malley - Famous Irish woman pirate who commanded three galleys and 200 men."
Penny didn't know about magical properties of pirates though... Thinking that most of the stories she had heard from childhood, were fanciful at best...
She remembered seeing an old movie in her grandma's house about a pirate in the Caribbean... in the movies the pirates looked real and alive, but when they reached a certain island, they were kind of dead 'living dead'....
