The History of Magic Classroom has changed alot since the first lesson! It has been charmed to look like the deck of an old pirate ship. There are still walls of course but the setting of everything in the room looks like the front of a ship. You can hear the ocean and birds just like if we were sailing away. There is even an occasional burst of wind that livens up the room a little bit. Nothing too crazy, but just enough that you swear you can hear the sails billowing above you. It is very magical and exciting.
There are still desks scattered around the ship's deck. Feel free to sit wherever you would like.
The professor has written a message on the board that is enchanted to scribble out in a messy but readable handwriting and stay for a few minutes and then erase and start again:
Quote:
ARGGG!!!
Ahoy t' Lesson Two: A Pirate's Life fer me!
Captain Gemma Cerulean
The Professor can be found at the door shaking everyone's hands as they enter the door dressed in her Pirate outfit. As you enter she greets you with a firm handshake or a pat on the bag and a hardy, "ARGGGG Matey!"
SPOILER!!: Gemma in Pirate Garb...haha...
OOC: Once again I'm sorry for the delayed start...yesterday our internet went down and I just couldn't force myself to post a new class from my phone...AHHHH!!!....so here we go!....
Please come in and have a seat. You may chat but keep it to a minimum. Remember that when class starts, you need to cut out chatting. Also don't post yourself coming in late, Gemma hates late arrivals and will not give you a warning, she will deduct points from the first time you are late.
I'm going to give you a few hours to get settled so I'll see you a in a little while!!! *huggles you all*
Luna a knew alot of pirates since when she was in a muggle school they learned all about them Luna raised her hand ''Cap'n what about Black Bart he was a muggle pirate he was one of the most succesfull pirates of his time with the capture of over 400 ships'' said Luna
Eino raised his hand. "Sir Francis Drake was a pirate during the Elizabeth Era." Eino loved reading about the Renaissance, especially England's. He had a special interest in History even though he never intended to read it to learn it, he simply enjoyed it, which was how he came up with his crazy medieval stories and imaginary games. "He wasn't a pirate really as we know pirates today." He motioned to the professor, who clearly had been affected by popular culture. "He was considered a privateer, which is the same as pirate, essentially. He was hired and sponsored by Queen Elizabeth I to attack foreign ships and steal their money. Most of the ships attacked by Sir Francis Drake, and other English hired privateers, were Spanish coming from the New World with gold and other valuables. In fact, this was one of the main sources of money that made England one of the richest countries in Europe at the end of the Elizabethan Era." He wasn't sure how he knew all of that, but he did, and was very sure every single detail provided was accurate. He had the tendency to come up with things, but this was all true. He hoped. His point was that, besides having a huge influence in popular culture, pirates were definitely important to the history of their country.

Simon watched as the list of students and their pirate's names appeared in fancy script on the board, the seventh year reading quickly through it to see the responses recieved by his friends. He couldn't help but chuckle quietly at Kurumi's name and how amusingly appropriate it was. Then spotting his cousin's he noted how they both had earned the 'dirty' monaker and he glanced across where Mina sat for a moment or two before looking back at the front.
Hmm...pirates.
There was one name that came to mind but Simon couldn't for the life of himself remember where it came from. Shaking his head and the name that surfaced away as best he could, e switched to the next name, another book pirate like his cousin and other classmate had named. "There was Captain Blood. He was from a book of the same name and kinda like a pirate version of Robin Hood," he supplied.
Did you just lose something? The GAME? Sorry... 'Justin Bieber, he is the man!' U mad, Felton!?
Umm... Hmm.... 'Ay, there be Sir Francis Drake, Sir John Hawkins and Sir Humphrey Gilbert... And more in Muggle stories! Like Captain Hook in Peter Pan!' Rose grinned as she remembered her parents reading it to her as a child. 'Ay, I can only really 'member the Elizabethan pirates!'

EEEK! EVERYBODY WAS MOVING ON!
Macy quickly scribbled down her pirate name on the parchment and slid it to the edge of the desk. What? It wasn't her fault she was a slow test taker! Besides, what was up with there being no 'hot pink' option on question two? Anyways.
SPOILER!!: name
Mad Mary Kidd
Hmm. Fitting.
Anywhoo, on to famous pirates!! BLACKBEEEARD. Except somebody said that one. Dang it. "Jack Sparrow!" Macy added, her hand shooting into the air. Hehehehe. Points for creativity. Yes. She deserved some creative-ness points.
Dani raised her hand- "Captain Blackbeard?" she suggested as she thought to herself- pirate captains, scary- no really, the thought of them was incredibly scary to her- things like that creeped her out way too easily for her own good.

Every pirate is a little bit crazy. You, though, are more than just a little bit. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate's life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!
Jacob watched as everyone began talking about pirates... some of the names were frequently heard when on an actual pirate ship, most of the time spoken when having disgraced some part of their legacy.
And Jacob had heard one name very frequently when he did something wrong... like destroying the barrels of gun powder by accident when he'd first been give his broadsword. "There was Bartolomeo Português. Who was known for constant luck in the face of death. He is also a well known name when speaking of 'The Prate Code' Since he had written on of the original rules" Jacob paused. "Then his luck... ran out in the unfortunate case of his death in a shipwreck."

Reason: Adding Pirate Name.
Gemma turned to watch and once everyone's name was done being written out on the board, she turned back to the class and with a smile said, "Arg! Ye be some strong pirate names!" she said with a little wink as she held up her sword and pointed it out at the classroom.
She put her sword down on the handrail in front of her and smiled suddenly talking like herself again, "Hello everyone! And welcome again to Lesson Two of History of Magic! This week we will be covering a subject that is rooted in both Magic and Muggle history. This is something that just recently has sparked the interest of many wizards here at Hogwarts and in the Wizarding Community with the arrival of our mystery ship in the lake..." she said motioning with her hand out the window that faced the mystery ship.
She paused and then glanced across the faces of the students, "Ay! I be talkin' about Pirates!" she said with a smile and her best pirate accent.
"Pirates are something that can be found in both Muggle and Wizarding history. And in both accounts are often linked to some kind of magic. In the wizarding world, most of the magic that the pirates used is easily explained. In the Muggle world, the magic was a mystery in their stories." she said with a smile.
"I had you take the pirate name quiz just as something fun...don't worry I won't call any of you by those names." the professor said with a little nod up and down. "But before we get too far into pirates, can anyone name any famous or even fictional pirates from either the wizarding or muggle world and stories?" she said looking out into the crowd.
OOC: Please have fun listing these pirates. They can be anything from movie pirates to real pirates to fairy tale pirates to anything. Please limit your answers to one to give the others a chance to answer! I'll give you a little bit of time to get answers in! Don't forget to raise your hand first! And remember there should be no talking/chatting cuz Gemma is stalking watching you...
Phew. Luckily nobody would be calling Samira Calico Mary Cash. Or else. Hmm...pirates? This could be an intriguing lesson. Samira really didn't know or care about the pirates, but she did care about that mysterious ship. It's been bugging her ever since the blasted thing surfaced!
Well...Samira really didn't know any pirates, but her conversation with one of her friends before hand was tugging at her mind. She raised her hand. "Oh! Wasn't there this one really hot pirate named Orlando Bloom?" Or was that someone else? Uh...she had no clue.

Fallon looked over the long list of names. She couldn't help but giggle because Simon was a Captain. She figured it suited his personality just fine. And this next question was something Fallon could definitely think of. She watched WAY too many movies. She raised her hand. "Well Captain Cerulean, there's Blackbeard and oh! There's Captain Hook from Peter Pan!" She loved Peter Pan.

Nika looked around the classroom ship and listened to everyone answer the question. The only pirate she could think of was captain hook but everyone already said him. Hmmm... Her hand shot up into the air as she came up with another one. "Arr does Captain Crunch count?" she asked her professor raising an eyebrow. "He is from this breakfast cereal!"

Zara was enjoying Nika's answer and gave her a wink. But of course, who knew? Captain Crunch.
Turning her attention back to Professor Cerulean, Zara's hand was up in the air which had only the index finger up and it was bent. Yeah, like a hook. But Captain Hook was taken, plus that awesome Jack Sparrow. Oh well. At least she knew another pirate. "Professor—I mean, Captain! Argh. There's uhm, Anne Bonny. Famous pirate, really. Respected pirate despite being a female," yeaaaah. Zara liked that. Hah, girl power and all that stuff. "Oh! And I think Alfiesomething—another student here—got the same name as her, pirate name I mean. You know, from the quiz. Though a bit different spelling, I think."

Simon looked at the Professor and raised his hand "I think there was a Pirate called Robert Culliford." Simon was sure about that. "He was one of six men to take over a french vessel after the War of Grand Allience or as it is more popular known as the nine year war broke out" Simon stopped there he didn't know if the Professor wanted any more detail.
Caroline looked over to see what Carter's Pirate my was. Red Harry Flint. Did he just read that with the eye patch on the first time? She nudged him on the arm. "Red" she whispered with a grin. She turned and listened to the Professor as she continued with the class.
Everyone had pretty much took every pirate that she knew and some she didn't know at all. But she remembered one that she had read about before that no one had mentioned. She raised her hand. "Edward England, he was an Irish pirate. Very successful pirate. but, his kindness and not-so-pirate attitude prevented him to become even greater."

Thank Merlin the professor - er, captain - wasn't going to call her by her "pirate name." Vashti was very happy about this. But now, to name a famous pirate... hmm... Oh!
She raised a hand and answered, "There was a pirate called Mary Read. Though she was female, she was forced to disguise herself as a boy for a lot of her life, and it's sort of what led up to her ending up on a pirate ship."

William raised his hand. "Aye Captain, the students are missing two of the fampus pirates in history" William told the professor. " Two of those pirates are Bluebeard and Capt. Jean Lafitte " William said to the captain/professor.

Kurumi was very please to see that the professor had written her name down as Cookie instead of Flint. While cookie may not be the sort of same to strike fear into others, Kurumi knew that she wasn't the sort of person to be able to do so anyway. She wouldn't make a very good pirate...that much was obvious from her pirate talk.
Kurumi wrote down her response first, adding in the pirate lingo here and there, and then raised her hand. "Profes---, erm, Captain...thar be also Anne Bonny. She be an Irish beauty who became a famous pirate in t' Caribbean. She became t' mistress t' a pirate named John "Calico Jack" Rackham, and ran off with him t' start a life o' piratin'."
Hey, she was able to speak half decent pirate when she wrote it all down first!

Famous pirates? but the girl didn't know any pirates! And the only books she had read that had pirates in them was a cute little book about a boy who never grew older...
Except people had already said the pirate in that book as their answer!
Hm... Kita set her mind back to the holidays. She had certainly watched a movie that had pirates in it but what were they called?! A small frown formed on her face. Think, woman, THINK!
Barbu...? Nope! Barber? No way! And even if it was: what kind of name was that for a pirate? B-b-b... "Ooh!" the brunette whispered before raising her hand and saying, "Captain Barbossa! Um... Arr! 'Tis the name of the Captain in a muggle movie." That was right, right?
Nika looked around the classroom ship and listened to everyone answer the question. The only pirate she could think of was captain hook but everyone already said him. Hmmm... Out of the corner of her eye, Sierra noticed Lockhart resume the seat next to her. She was still mad at him, for more than just one reason, and so she regarded with a simple look before turning back to the professor.

Sierra sighed and stopped herself before rolling her eyes. Overly-happy people always annoyed her, and Professor Cerulean definitely was overly-happy. The costumes and pirate talk was nearly too much for Sierra to take, so she only halfheartedly listened as the professor went on and on about pirates and magic.
I can see your lips moving, but all I hear is blah, blah, blah...
Well, at least she wasn't going to use their pirate names. It had only been for fun apparently. Yes, Sierra had oh so much fun discovering that her other name was Dread Pirate Vane... Riiiight. She looked around the room, wondering how in the name of Hades her classmates knew all these pirate names. Sierra knew none. None, none, none.
Hmm...she needed a Ravenclaw. They apparently knew everything...

Carter raised his eyebrow and looked around the room. Most of the pirates mentioned so far were familiar to him... in fact... they were from the muggle world. And they weren't real. He smiled to himself. For the first time he wasn't behind in a History of Magic lesson.
He thought for a moment before raising his hand. "Long John Silver." he said adding to the list. He was a famous pirate. He even had his own restaurant. (Okay, so it was just one named after him... But that was still pretty inspirational.)

Maddox was positively buzzing with this lesson. It was right up her alley and she was dying to show all these snarky, noses little kiddos a real pirates life.
The question the Professor asked was right up her alley and she hopped out of her chair and Maddox almost jumped on top of her desk to answer the question, but she remembered where she was and what she was supposed to be doing. She looked around to make sure no one saw that little performance. She coughed and pulled at the skin on her cheek, "Capn Davey Jones." she called out with her raised hand.

She glanced out at the students, "Let's add a couple of more names up there." she said with a flick of her sword and slowly a few more names were added to the list.
After checking to make sure the names were added, she turned back to the students, "I'm sure many of you have heard the legends associated with Pirates and understand what they are. Like I mentioned before, Pirates are an important part of the wizarding and muggle world and have helped shape our history in many ways. "A great example of this would be muggle pirates running across a creature that puzzled them known as a mermaid....we are lucky to have a little knowledge of mermaids since they do inhabit our lake and occasionally we get to interact with them." she said with a little nod up and down.
"Can anyone think of another example of either pirates encountering magical creatures or examples proving that a pirate was a wizard?" she asked. She knew this would have to make some of them think.
OOC: Have fun thinking of answers for this one. You can mention anything that could be interpreted as magic. Think about movies and crazy legends that you might have read about or seen. You can say that any of the pirates were wizards as long as you have a creative answer to back it up. Remember Gemma is watching so not chatting. Have fun!

Fallon looked at the list of names. It was pretty extensive. She didn't know there were so many pirates. But this next question....was something that really made her think. She was trying to think of pirate legends. There was only really one that stood out in her mind. So she raised her hand once more. "Captain, the only one I can think of is the Kraken. It's like some sort of Giant Squid like thing. From descriptions of it, I think that it must be a magical creature...then again. I'm kind of just guessing here." She wanted to make that clear. No one should take Fallon word for word when it came to history.
