The History of Magic Classroom has changed alot since the first lesson! It has been charmed to look like the deck of an old pirate ship. There are still walls of course but the setting of everything in the room looks like the front of a ship. You can hear the ocean and birds just like if we were sailing away. There is even an occasional burst of wind that livens up the room a little bit. Nothing too crazy, but just enough that you swear you can hear the sails billowing above you. It is very magical and exciting.

There are still desks scattered around the ship's deck. Feel free to sit wherever you would like.

The professor has written a message on the board that is enchanted to scribble out in a messy but readable handwriting and stay for a few minutes and then erase and start again:

The Professor can be found at the door shaking everyone's hands as they enter the door dressed in her Pirate outfit. As you enter she greets you with a firm handshake or a pat on the bag and a hardy, "ARGGGG Matey!"

OOC: Once again I'm sorry for the delayed start...yesterday our internet went down and I just couldn't force myself to post a new class from my phone...AHHHH!!!....so here we go!....

Please come in and have a seat. You may chat but keep it to a minimum. Remember that when class starts, you need to cut out chatting. Also don't post yourself coming in late, Gemma hates late arrivals and will not give you a warning, she will deduct points from the first time you are late.

Why were they connected to a school, well, Amy didn't know, except, she vaugley remembered a random nugget or fact, she put up her hand again, a lot of pirates, or at least the captains, tended to come from rich, well educated backgrounds, so I dunno, maybe they picked their captains from their school friends, after all, theres no reason to have someone stupid on your crew, you might as well pick someone with some brains, so maybe thats why, because they were, or are, looking for crew mates? She suggested lamely

Simon smiled at the Professor. "Well being a big castle they could hide their treasure here." Simon then realised something. "Is there some treasure in Hogwarts because if there is I want the map and I'll go looking for it." Simon said truthfully.

Because of this she decided to reply to common question of professor, even with pleasure.

Ahoy! Flags were used to intimidate persons who against minded, the design of the flag was with subject primarily that purpose. Pirate flag was a kind of psychological warfare, particularly effective in combination with a reputation which soon became pirates. If the pirates succeeded in intimidating the victim to such an extent that she surrendered without a fight, this greatly simplifies business and increase profits how the result.

Famous pirates often use unique flags that were particularly effective. Skull and bones on the red-black are an ancient symbol of the ancient science of alchemy, which denotes the phase of rebirth of man, his emancipation from the old and unnecessary.

Determine the enemies/aim at sea has always been a difficult task. Also magical defense needed anytime, that moovie what in difference modes constantly. These two reasons/causes prevailed among wizarding pirates always.

Kurumi sat quietly for a moment as she listened to her classmates offer up answers. The one that really stuck with her was the one Eino said and then a few others repeated. "I have to agree with Eino," Kurumi said after a few moments. "Wizarding schools are said to be the safest and most well protected places in the wizarding world - especially from non-magical eyes. If pirate captains or important members of the crew were, erm, are indeed witches and wizards, then I think it is fair to say that they would want to hide their treasure somewhere where they could be sure non-wizarding eyes wouldn't see." She paused for a moment and tuck some hair behind her ear. "Wizarding banks are also safe, of course, but their is a registration process and too many wizarding officials have their hands on the banks. So schools located near a body of water would be easily accessible for them by a simple swish of their wands and a Disillusionment Charm. Hogwarts has the Black Lake, Beauxbatons is on the Mediterranean coast of France...all the schools are located by water."

Nika listened to everyone's answers carefully as she tried to think of her own. Why would pirates want to get near schools? She nodded at Samira's answer because it sounded like it was very realistic, but she didn't want to sound lame and just repeat the same thing so she was going to go for another out of the box answer. Having waited quite some time since the question was asked she thought that she better answer before class ended. "Maybe it's because... erm... Wizarding schools would be good places to conquer because they are so big and they'd make a great place to hide treasure?" Okay so honestly Nika had no idea but the guess was better than nothing.

Brielle nodded, grateful for the Professor's answer. Of course, magic was indeed in their side, so why would they even fear being chased by almost anyone in authority. She glanced again at the flags in the front of the classroom, bringing up something like that must have really scared alot of other sailors.

Well... "You mentioned earlier that not all pirates were evil, professor, and i that was the case, maybe going to magic schools was just something they wanted to do," errr. did that even make sense? "I don't think anyone would be able to perform good magic without proper training, and that includes pirates. If they are able to perform complex spells as mentioned earlier, then there might also be a possibility that they also studied here, once, and that must have encouraged some to go back to their school," she remembered the story of Voldemort, an evil wizard long ago, who also went back to Hogwarts. "As for the evil pirates who came here... well, maybe they just wanted a place to safely stay in, since the magic schools are protected from the muggles, then it would be really practical."

Olivia rose her hand again. "I think that there are several reasons that the schools could be useful to pirates. They were good hiding places and also often in relatively hidden places as well, so the environment around them had good hiding places as well. Also, I'm sure there was some corruption at some point in which one or more schools had given pirates or their treasures protection in exchange for something. I suppose recruiting could be a factor as well and I'm sure some pirates were foolish enough to attempt to steal from the schools."

What's linked them to the school? Freya frowned she didn't know for sure why they came to the school at the first place. "Basically Pirates were live only for steal or find a treasure. I think they're trying to steal or find a treasure that's hidden in the school." she said and lowered her hand.

What could have linked them to the schools? "Treasure," Helena stated simply, with her hand raised. Or maybe that was not the only thing. "Or maybe they need an army of young pirates, and students are the best to train," she added with a shrug. Yup. The army sounded like a better idea.

"Maybe, err, they went to school there, or have an acquaintance there who is a secret spy that monitors the school so that the pirates could ambush the school the way they want it!"

Zara raised her hand for the last time, hopefully. "Maybe a treasure was hidden at school before. Like they've found a map on their adventure and followed it it which lead to Hogwarts." Like years ago with that Sorcerer's Stone, right?

Uh oh. What if they were having this class right now because pirates were getting ready to attack them? There was that weird X on the wall. And the old ship at the lake. Plus Professor Vindictus gone mad saying the brooms were bewitched and Zara heard from somewhere that the OLD man was speaking pirate. NO. No no no no no. WERE THEY BEING ATTACKED? Was that what Shaw was talking about?!

Zara had a bewildered expression on her face as different ideas came to her mind, each worse than the one before.

Gemma nodded her head up and down and added little, "Yes"es and "Great thinking" and "Good job"s between each of the student's answers. They were all thinking very much like pirates, but....

"You all have brought up very valid reasons, but remember that pirates were just wizards or people so their motivation may not have just been treasure or violence. It could've been more about survival, or..." she paused because as a Historian this was one of those things that bothered her but she knew that History was often shaped by this...hello fall of Troy..." LOVE!" she let a little smirk hit her face. "Or there could've been a number of other things the pirates were looking for....you never know one of their children may have attended the school and they were just visiting....I want to say again that not all pirates were evil creatures...some were fighting for just causes and were just misunderstood or misrepresented...."

She let those important statements sink in and then she flicked her sword and the homework assignment posted on the board.

*Create a pirate name for yourself. You can either use the Quiz at www.piratequiz.com or you can create your own. Be as creative as you want.

*Using your pirate name, create a legend/story about yourself and your crew that incorporates atleast five pieces of magic or magical creatures. Make sure that you legend/story is thorough and creative. Don't just use another pirate's story and place your pirate name into it. And make sure it makes sense. This could be just a legend about your crew and you or it could be an actual story about an adventure you went on.

*Remember that you can make your pirate a mean one or if you would like to be a nice pirate that's fine. Just have fun with it!

*A good legend/story would be about two parchments long (4-5 good paragraphs.)

*Have fun with this and be as creative as you want!

Points Possible: 7 pts

Extra Credit:

Option One:
Create a Jolly Roger flag for your pirate ship. You can use whatever colors you would like. You can use the basic red, black, white, and yellow, and/or you can incorporate whatever colors you would like. Your flag does not have to be all about death and destruction if you don't want it to be.

Option Two:
Visit the Hogwarts Library (literally go there and visit the Library and research by asking questions of the librarian, etc. This is the only place to find this information.) and research Barnabus the Bloody. (Yes he was a real pirate linked to Hogwarts!) And write a couple of paragraphs explaining who he was and why he was seen close to Hogwarts. You'll have to do some digging to find the real story behind it.

Due Date: Saturday, June 25 by midnight CST

She smiled at the class. "Now today we won't be leaving the traditional way." she flicked her sword and the plank of the ship appeared going out the window facing the mysterious ship in the lake. "Today, you must walk the plank to leave my class....no worries the plank is actually connected to a long slide that will take you to the grounds....I hope you learned a little something about pirates and I hope you are more interested or intrigued by our new resident pirate ship below...." she said with a smile and waited for the students to start getting up and moving around.

Rose wrote the assignment down and was happy to learn they had to walk the plank. I mean that's pretty awesome! She said to the Professor 'Land ahoy mateys!' and grinned as she walked off the plank and fell into the slide and whizzed down.

Freya frowned when the Professor said the lesson was over. What? Is over already?Ugh! She was hoping that they gonna sail like a pirate but she guess not. When she was done copying the assignment, she put all her belonging onto her bag. She was ready to leave the class when a plank appeared with a flick of Professor Cerulean's wand. What the?! Even though the professor said its safe but she still afraid that somehow she could fall from that think into Merlin know where. Well, there's one way to find out.

The blonde slowly made her way towards the plank. "Thank you for the interesting lesson Professor. Have a good day." she said before she walked the plank. "Geronimo!" she shouted when she jumped from the plank

OHMIGAWSH. The lesson was o v e r. Actually over *cry*, she loved this lesson, it always went by too quick. She pouted as she scribbled down the homework in her planner. Yes, she had brought a planner this term. A planner that was charmed to scream at her until she ticked off the work. A good incentive really, it just gave her a bloody awful headache. She packed up her stuff into her satchel and stood up.

Macy quickly scribbled down the homework, before gathering up her things and proceeding to the plank. D: AHH! Planks were scary. Ohh, whew! It was connected to a slide. Hehe. She did like slides.

"Thanks Professor!" Macy said on the way out. Today's class had actually been a pleasant surprise. Maybe she'd even be looking forward to the next History of Magic class? ... There were always miracles.

AND OFF THE PLANK!

Macy let out a little squeal as she 'walked the plank' and slid downwards towards the grounds. WHEEE! Heh. So much fun being a little kid.

Alfie quickly copied down the assignment onto a spare piece of parchment, her blue eyes curious as she listened to the Professor announce that they would be walking the plank to leave the class. Her blonde eyebrows rose at this, glancing at the plank momentarily, before listening as the teacher explained that it lead to a large slide, taking them to the grounds. Alfie gave a soft smile at the idea of this and quickly gathered her things, getting in line for the plank for the few moments of wait time. "Thank you Professor!" she called with a wave and a smile before walking the plank and sliding down towards the grounds.

Nika smiled when she saw the homework assignment. It seems like this was the only class where you could be creative with it and she loved that. She beamed at her professor as she collected her things and she ran up to her and said a hardy, "ARG Thank you captain!"

Samira was really intrigued by the assignment, and couldn't wait to do it. Before the class ended, she quickly raised her hand. "Professor? Is it possible to do both the extra credits?" You know, for extra points. But if she couldn't it was fine, she just wanted to make sure.
