"Nothing more than as a friend." Carter replied. "And the reason I don't like that guy is because he sticks his nose where it doesn't belong. First time I even saw the guy Marie and I were having a conversation about how she enjoyed tormenting Caroline when he stormed up and started yelling at me, like it was my fault that Marie has issues with me dating someone." So really, nothing was his fault. It was all the badger's fault.
"You were pulling out nasal hair?" he asked blinking several times. "In the girl's bathroom? In front of Marie? I don't see how you're making this any better for me." Here she was talking like it wasn't a big deal to be in the girl's bathroom! "Yes, I know I've got hair." he said a little frustrated. All guys have a lot of hair. Someone with a boyfriend should know that. "Checking for zits?" he repeated. "Who does that?"
Now he even was acting like a girl... which... given he was found in the girl's bathroom... and was currently being impersonated by one...
And Carter thought it couldn't get worse.
"Well if she didn't want to, she shouldn't have." he said simply. "But she did." Did girl's brains not work? It was simple really. She broke up with him and so they broke up. "That's not really something you can take back."
He sat up straight, crossed his arms, and narrowed his eyes. He hoped that still looked intimidating as Mia... "Of course she tried to kiss you. You're practically dating now. You're going to have to fix this." he said with a nod.
"You'll have to tell her you'd been confounded... or snog someone in front of her... or something..."
Because he was not about to deal with seeing Caroline right now. It was still too soon. Even though they had had a few quick conversations since then he wasn't ready to see her in a relationship 'she tried to kiss me' sort of way.
"Were you and Marie yelling at each other because you both tend to do that a lot, you know?" Mia had never known two people to fight with each other so much. They either really hated each other or they secretly still loved each other. And yeah she was never going to voice that out loud. "Maybe he was just protecting Marie." And okay occasionally Huffie's did fly off the handle about stuff but it's because they're such a protective lot.
Mia was POSITIVE that Carter still liked Marie. Why else would he care that she had been pulling out nasal hair in front of the Slytherin? "Well technically she barged in on me while I was pulling out the nasal hair. I was alone before that. Pfft...give me some credit Carter, I wouldn't purposely go out of my way to embarrass you." She didn't need to. Apparently she was doing a good job of it by accident.
He was such a testy little thing, wasn't he? Mia simply couldn't see the problem. "Don't guys check for zits?" she asked as she picked up the bowl of soup that she had been eyeing off. "How do you know if you're getting one if you don't check?"
Oh poor Carter. He had absolutely no idea about girls. Mia shook her head in sympathy at him. "Don't you know it's a girls prerogative to change her mind?" She took a sip of her soup and gazed at Carter across the table. It was so hard to see herself sitting there and have those dumb things come out of her mouth. "Of course she can take it back especially if she didn't mean it. People often say things out of anger, you know?" Obviously he didn't, otherwise he wouldn't be saying these things.
Thank Merlin she was not a boy.

That wouldn't be much of a morale boost if a girl's thoughts about dating him were equivalent to a girl's thoughts about whether they'd prefer cake or pie. Merlin! No wonder there were so many guys walking around with zits. They didn't care just like Carter. Nikolai cared about his appearance. Sometimes he could take longer than she did in the bathroom. "Well you should check."
"Well I don't know what to tell you Carter, but Caroline regrets breaking up with you okay." Geez, was that so hard to figure out? And it was obvious to Mia that he did NOT want to get back with her otherwise he would be jumping at the chance to talk to the girl. He was just using Mia as an excuse.

He looked as though he was constipated and there was a rather large vein throbbing in his forehead, that couldn't be good. "I didn't screw anything up for you." Geez anyone would think she ran around the school grounds naked singing the school song. It's not like she ruined his cred or anything. She ran into two people.
Mia rolled her eyes at him...well Carter's eyes. "Pfft...Marie and I are not joined at the hip you know?" Which was true but also because she couldn't remember whether Marie did tell her about Carter and Caroline. Sometimes. Well okay a lot of the time, she didn't actually take in everything people told her so she might have been told and just didn't recall it.
What did she suggest? Didn't she just tell him that only moments ago? "Talk to her. If you don't want to get back with her then just tell her that you thought about it and it's not what you want. If you do want to get back with her, well then I just did you a favour and you should be thanking me." She was so good like that. Always helping people out with their relationships.
She burst out laughing at the look on his face and then waved her hands dismissively in the air. "What could I possibly lose from this situation?" She was having the time of her life.

It would have given Peeves a run for his money.
"Do I really have to?" he asked sulking for a minute. "I mean. Aren't you the least bit guilty about this? If I had wanted to, or been ready to, talk to her I already would have." Did he want to get back together? He had no idea. He knew he didn't want it to happen... but it had. Doesn't the fact that she had thrown their relationship away count for anything? Merlin only knew how long he would have walked around with that hair hanging out of his nose. She gave him a smile that could just of said about anything. "Of course nobody will be looking for you. Well except for Caroline that is." And he probably didn't want to keep that girl waiting around. She had the feeling that snake could get nasty.
"Just lucky I guess." she replied, giving him a wink. He was probably lucky that she hadn't ran into anymore people than she did, if he was this upset with just two people.
Mia raised her eyebrows at him. "Yes you can eat pasta." she said absently but what did he mean about Marie's behaviour? She hadn't seen much of friend in the past few weeks but she was sure if there was something wrong then Marie would come to her. "What do you mean by Marie's recent behaviour?" How is it that she is disguised as Carter and ran into Marie and they had a rather pleasant conversation. Sort of.
Was he sulking?
Sweet Merlin! He was! And why should she feel guilty? "No you wouldn't have. You're a guy. And she broke up with you. So now your pride is hurt and your manliness has just been questioned so even if you wanted to get back with Caroline you won't. Not until she comes begging because that will restore your testosterone." She gave him a sweet smile and took another bite out of her bread roll.
Did that make sense?
Probably not!
This male body was effecting her brain.
She rolled her eyes at him. He was so melodramatic. "Seriously! Are you channeling my female hormones or something. You make a better girl than I do. You're so angsty."

"It's not she lied to me or that she accidentally slapped me. Those kind of things I can forgive no problem and things can go back to normal. This isn't something that you can go back to things being normal." Especially not so soon. And more importantly, especially because the girl thought they were back together when they weren't.
His eyes widened. He better not be on her time-of-the-month! He would much rather fail potions then be overrun my female hormones. Gross!
"I am not angsty." Usually. "It's just been... a particularly shocking conversation. How would you like it if all of a sudden you had been discovered in the boy's bathroom and had a new boyfriend?" Yeah. That should be enough to cause anyone stress.

" he said with a noncommittal shrug. He hoped he was able to hide the bitterness in his voice. He hoped at least the hurt was hidden.
"She also may have mentioned how Marie treats her and how she can't take it anymore..." he said. This time he knew for certain that his voice was slightly shaky. "Like I have any control over what Marie does." What was worse though, was Caroline accusing him of not doing anything about it.
His eyes widened slightly. "And here I was under the impression that Hufflepuffs weren't rule-breakers." he said a little impressed with the girl. Suddenly the friendship she had with Marie made a little more sense.
He chuckled. "Well in that case, maybe I ought to take you for the little snog in front of Caroline." he joked. Well... he was mostly joking anyway. He still thought it was a good idea to show Caroline he was over her.
Even though he wasn't.
