The History of Magic Classroom has once again taken on a new look since the last lesson! The HOM and Muggle Studies Professors have joined together to create a full theatre stage at the front of the classroom. The chairs in the audience all have fold out desks for the students to use.
SPOILER!!: Theatre
On the stage, there is the usual HOM charmed chalkboard that Professor Cerulean uses at every lesson. There is a spot light shining on the chalkboard. Scattered around the stage are objects and tables covered with white and black table cloths to keep their secrets hidden. Each hidden object is spotlighted with a different color spotlight. These hidden objects are of different shapes and sizes across the stage.
Please feel free to sit wherever you would like. As you come in, please grab a drink and a magic themed (top hat, rabbit, star shaped) cookie from the table as you enter the theatre/classroom.
Professor Cerelean has written a message on the board that is enchanted to scribble out in a curly but readable handwriting and stay for a few minutes and then erase and start again:
Quote:
Abracadabra...Alacazam!!!!
Welcome to a Night of Magic!!!!
Please have a seat and grab a cookie and drink as you enter!
Professor Cerulean is no where to be found, but remember she is watching.
OOC:
Please come in and have a seat. You may chat but keep it to a minimum. Remember that when class starts, you need to cut out chatting. Also don't post yourself coming in late, Gemma hates late arrivals and will not give you a warning, she will deduct points from the first time you are late.
I'm going to give you a few hours to get settled so I'll see you a in a little while!!! *huggles you all*
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
~*Lesson Quick Links*~ (Will be updated as we go so you can find the Professor's links quickly and easily)
Please feel free to catch up at any time during the lesson. I don't mind if you post with answers to all of the missed questions at once or if you just wanna jump in where we are at and catch up later or just jump in where we are at. Whatever you want to do is fine with me....JUST don't post yourself coming in late to class that's a NO NO!
"For the tricks where the magican turns a person into an animal," Eino said with his hand raised, "the person could be an animagus." Not only would they be able to change shape at will, but they would also not be dangerous as real animals are, making it extra convenient for a magician to use that. "Or it could just be a transfiguration spell." He added then lowered his hand. Either way, that was easily achieved with magic, but Eino still didn't understand how the muggle magicians did it.
William raised his hand." You could use the incantation "Alohomora" which can open up doors and traps and if underwater, add Gillyweed to breathe underwater" William told the professor.
She raised her hand. "The rabbit in the hat could be some sort of undetectable extension charm..." Aurora pondered. "Or you could just conjure a rabbit..."
Oh, great, more of this, Gwen thought, not at all happy. Not at all happy not because she didn’t like muggles, or magic, it was simply annoying to her that she didn’t know how to answer all these questions. Again- how am I supposed to know? ‘There is this charm… Orchideous. I think it is used to makes a bouquet of flowers appear out of the caster's wand’. Yeah, a really cheep trick. ‘And some of the magicians use wands. Maybe those are actually real’. Did that make any sense?
‘But… Professor?’ , Gwen started saying, not so sure if she should go on. ‘Could they… the muggles…I mean, the possible wizards living among muggles, the ones doing all these tricks’, she continued babbling. ‘Could they use carms like Confundo on the public?’This could explain a lot… ‘Or… but… this is not a charm- they could use portkeys. For the vanishing tricks. The ones with people in boxes?’ How else could I have explained it?

Kimalia raised her hand, "When attempting to disappear someone, the 'victim' could in fact just apparate themselves away from the stage and back."
Louisa stared at the board with all the tricks and pondered. Then she jumped excitedly and raised her hand, "I know I know! That hanging bag tricks could be done easily by disapparating from inside the bag and apparate behind the audience!" Cool, eh? "It's not specifically a spell.. but it is magic." She grinned, like real magic. The one they're learning in this school.. in case you wondered.
Simon decided he'd just guess since he wasn't very good at things like this. "How about getting a Space Shuttle to fly or a Formula 1 car to race." Simon thought they were magic and he hoped the Professor wouldn't be mad at him.
Presley raised her hand tentatively. She felt almost excluded from this lesson, as she'd never gone to see muggle magic tricks. Her parents had deemed it a useless waste of time. But this answer she could try to help with. "Making someone dissapear, well they could just disapparate. Right?" Presley hid a grin as she said the word. She could hardly wait to be old enough to apparate. But that was years away. This lesson was now. She focused her attention again, and began writing down other people's answers. For future reference. Purely acedemic. It wasn't as if Presley was just now imagining herself making a great living as a muggle magician. She would be the best there was.

Nika raised an eyebrow. Well she was able to get all of the muggle stuff down, but now they were back to the wizardy stuff and this is where it got more complicated. Well for Sierra this had been what she was waiting for, but Nika was glad that they were talking about muggle tricks earlier. "I don't know if this would work out... But could you use Accio for the bunny out of the hat thing?" Maybe.. Maybe not. Nika had no idea...

She turned back towards the students, "So looking at that list and thinking about the three incantations that Sierra has mentioned, can you think of some other incantations or charms that relate to the Magic Tricks we've listed?"
Audrey raised her hand. "Professor, for the coins appearing from thin air or any similar trick, I believe the 'Accio' charm would be the only logical explanation. The magician could have then close by then silently perform the 'Accio' incantation"
Ariella raised her hand, still thinking. She started out slowly, still a little unsure of her answer. "Well, I'm not sure if this would work, but possibly a 'Reparo' charm? I have heard about musicians un-threading scarves and then magically putting them back together."

Ness thought for a little, hmm maybe Imperius curse to hypnotise people, but that would have been illegal, she thought for a little longer then had a better answer, although she decided she would use both incarnations. She raised her hand and waited her turn. "Well Proffessor, they can use Wingardium Leviosa, when levitating small objects and even though it may be illegal they could use the Imperius Curse, when hypnotising people, and when they are done hypnotising them they could use Obliviate." said Ness hoping the Proffessor didn't mind that she mention one of the Unforgivable Curses, because some teachers over reacted if a student did. Ness waited for the others to answer, she then listened to the Proffessor.
Did you just lose something? The GAME? Sorry... 'Justin Bieber, he is the man!' U mad, Felton!?
Rose raised her hand. 'How about when magicians rip up the paper into tiny little pieces, they could use 'Reparo' to put it back together' Rose said. It was probably OK...

Whoa...these are awesome! Savannah doesn't even know how to do most of the listed with magic. She never knew muggles are so bright!
Savannah slowly raised her hand. "When they make something or someone disappear, they probably covered them up with an invisibility cloak or they could have used the disillusional charm." answered Savannah. But she really wondered how a muggle would have done it. What if muggles invented invisibility cloak too?

Janice hadn't say even a bit since the first question was asked, and so she raised her hand.
"If they do something like, err, putting someone in a box and change them into something they will most probably use transfiguring spells... Maybe."

Relating spells with the muggle magic tricks? There are similarities, yes, she thought. It was quite obvious. "Well...there are levitating things in their acts..." Heather said, trying to think. 'Act' was more the term since muggle magic was for show. "...so...uhm...maybe they were using a levitating charm...like..Wingardium Leviosa."
SPOILER!!: Yes!!! Those just what I was looking for!!! Thanks!

Sitting quietly in her seat, she looked at the board and went down the lists. Stabbing people with swords? Car disappearing? Catching a bullet in your teeth? What the heck was a bullet!? "Couldn't the people disappearing and reappearing in another place...happen with someone who mastered the geminio spell?" Could that spell even be used on humans? "Or they could just apparate." The second idea seemed more likely.

A slight frown on her lips, Kurumi tugged at the edges of her hood for a moment to make sure that none of her hair was showing. She suddenly was feeling even more awkward than she already had.
Slowly, she raised her hand. "I am sure the Disillusionment Charm could be applied to any of those vanishing tricks mentioned," she began before cocking her head to the side in confusion. Something wasn't making the connection in her head at the moment. "P-Professor, I thought you said that all magicians were non-magical though," she said timidly not wanting to offend, but simply seeking clarification as to why they were brainstorming magical methods behind these tricks when Professor Cerulean had already said that none of them were witches and wizards. "They wouldn't have been able to perform charms or other incantations."
Or was she completely missing something?

SPOILER!!: List of Magical Tricks meets Wizarding Items and Spells, Chants, etc
The young professor glanced at the students with an approving nod. “Those answers were all what I was looking for. Remember that I’m not saying that everyone magician in the Muggle World is a wizard. Since the past of the Secrecy Act, they couldn’t be for fear of facing consequences with the Wizarding governing bodies across the world.” she paused and then continued, “ But many magicians have been investigated to insure that they weren’t wizards and before the Secrecy Act was created and instilled there may have been magicians that were wizards.” she hoped that didn’t confuse them too much.
“But after looking at the list of similarities between the tricks and our chants, spells, etc. you can almost see a correlation or link between the two. There is not direct evidence that one side influenced the other but I think that the list the students just put together helps point out that possibly each influenced the other at one point in some way.” she hoped they would understand the connection between the two words through this type of magic and see the importance each had on the other.
She smiled and let her words sink in for a few minutes and then she continued. “Well that ends our, well, my lesson on Muggle Magic. I hope that you’ve been introduced to a new idea and that you see the possibly link between Wizard Magic and Muggle Magic. Before you leave, I would like to invite you up to the stage to take a look at the different tables of magic tricks. You are more than welcome to watch any of the videos in the frames on the tables or to play with any of the props or to read any of the books on each table explaining how to complete any of the tricks.” she said motioning towards the tables.
”Before you leave, please grab a deck of Muggle cards before leaving the classroom.” she flicked her wand and beside the doors a table full of different boxes of cards appeared, “You will need a deck of cards for your homework assignment. Please keep your eyes open on the Announcements board where I will post your homework by the end of the day.”
OOC: Please come up to the stage and look around. If you would like to RP performing some of the tricks you are more than welcome to do that. I am working on putting together some sites to help with homework so I will be posting it by the end of tomorrow, July12. Please make sure to RP your charrie grabbing some cards as they leave or your homework will be hard to complete. Please let me know if you have any questions.

If Kurumi hadn’t have been confused before, then she certainly was now. Kurumi looked down at her parchment and read over all the notes she had taken thus far that lesson and tried to sort out what all had been said. Nope, she definitely had a few notes that said that none of the magicians were wizards…but now Professor Cerulean was implying that she had said that all magicians in the non-magical world had been wizards. She had been saying the opposite all class, right? Kurumi’s head spun a bit. Perhaps all this talk and throwing around the word ‘magic’ was getting to her? Not to mention she was a bit confused about how magicians could have been influenced by witches and wizards performing magic since the Statute of Wizarding Secrecy made it so that any non-magical person who observed wizarding world magic was Obilliviated. She was getting contradictory information at the moment.
Rolling up her parchment and putting her things back in her bag, Kurumi slowly made her way to the stage, but not to take a look at all the magic tricks there – she had played with more than enough of them as a child. She did have three older brothers who enjoyed playing pranks on people, especially there naïve little sister. “Professor Cerulean, I am a bit confused on a few things,” she said as she approached the woman. “In the beginning of the lesson you said that no magician in history was a wizard…but noting the connections between the different types of magic shows that it had to be influenced. The first historically recorded stage magician I believe dates back to around the beginning of the 17th century. But, we know that great wizards like Merlin were performing magic long before then. The Statute of Wizarding Secrecy was officially established in 1692, which is a few years before the first recorded stage performer performed his first magic trick to an audience…” Kurumi trailed off for a bit finding herself more confused at her own words. Clearly, she was over thinking things, but it helped her keep her mind off other things. “Noting the connections…are you perhaps implying that perhaps there were some witches and wizards who started an underground movement to slowly leak our form of magic into the non-magical community? Or…or was it the Ministry itself that showed non-magical people how to perform ‘magic’ as a way of keeping our world a secret?” After all, if one could explain things with science, then non-magical people were more willing to accept its existence and ignore it.
Kurumi didn't even bother getting into pre-stage magic at the moment. That was an entirely different can of worms.
And she would get to grabbing a deck of cards in a little.

Heather was just about ogling the different muggle magic paraphernalia when Professor Cerulean announced that class was over already. She was about to pout when the professor said that they're free to touch any-she was dying to take hold of a sword, mindless if she was clumsy. It wouldn't be real, right?....RIGHT?....maybe she shouldn't. There were some others...
But then she had to take a deck of cards first. She walked up to the stage and picked out a deck and wondered. What would they be doing with the cards? Would they be...OOH. Maybe they were going to make a card tower or something or do some street magic...if that's the case, she'd be doing more reading again. bummer...but...doing that did sound fun.
Seeing that she had no more questions and that she was eager to know what to do with the cards since it was apparently going to be their homework, she then decided to leave. "Good Bye Professor!." she said happily. "thanks for the lesson!"

... take a look?
Alright. Helena took her bag and walked up on the stage to JUST have a look at every creepy muggle magic thing that was there. She loved magic, but this kind... nahh. She also grabbed a deck of muggle cards, wondering what assignment they were going to have.
Hmmm.
After she placed the deck of cards in her bag, the girl left the... room, but not before smiling at professor Cerulean. "Goodbye."
Having no interest on seeing how those muggle "magic" work, Aiden goes up to the front stage and grabs a deck of cards. She glances over at the professor. "Thank you for the great lesson, professor," says Aiden politely before turning her back on the class. As she walks towards the exit, Aiden shuffles the deck of cards she took earlier. Wonder what she is supposed to do with it?
