As you enter the History of Magic classroom, you instantly hear music both muggle and wizard playing softly in the background. It is an upbeat set of songs.
The classroom is decorated with a huge Happy Birthday banner across the front of the room that is charmed to change from blue to yellow to red to green to alternating colors occasionally. Each time the color changes, the font of the words change as well.
Across the right side of the classroom is a long table divided into four sections. Each section has a table cloth with a crest of each house on it. So there is a blue tablecloth with the Ravenclaw crest, a red tablecloth with the Gryffindor crest, a green table with the Slytherin crest, and a yellow table with the Hufflepuff crest. Each table contains plates, silverware, cups, and napkins that match the color of the tablecloth. Also there is a punch bowl full of a drink in the same shades. In the center of each table is a cake decorated with the crest of the house.
The middle of the classroom is divided into four different sections. Each section holds tables covered in similar tablecloths. Above each set of tables, streamers of the house shade are hanging above the cluster of table. A charm as been set that makes fireworks of the house shade pop occasionally about each cluster. Every once and a while confetti in the house colors explodes overhead and flutters down to the tables only to disappear a few minutes later.
The professor has written a message on the board that is enchanted to scribble out in her handwritting and stay for a few minutes and then erase and start again:

The Professor can be found at the door shaking everyone's hands as they enter the door.

So far we have a pretty good list.” she said with a little nod up and down. “It looks like the board is keeping up great! I’ve charmed it to only list a reason once and the student that mentioned it first will be listed.” she said explaining why it wasn’t keeping everyone’s name on the board.

She glanced at the cups and realized that the cups were halfway full at each table and with a flick of her wand she sent the bowls back around to refill. “If you would like to try a different flavor of kool-aid, feel free to ask your bowl when it comes to you and I know it will make sure you are taken care of.” she said with a smile in her sweet voice.[/COLOR]

Seeing no one else at her table about to answer, Emmy stood up, determined to give a unique fact. "Emmy Fallows, Ravenclaw again. Rowena's diadem was used as a Horcrux for Lord Voldemort, wasn't it?" Another fact that wasn't exactly pleasant, but it was a fact all the same.

"Savannah Black, Slytherin." Savannah said, grinning. The best house or what? It's not hard listing facts about your favorite Hogwarts founder. Besides, Savvy thinks that Slytherin was the most interesting founder of the four.
"Salazar Slytherin," began Savannah, "from fen, disagreed with the other founders about accepting muggle-borns to be educated in Hogwarts. So, he left the school and was believed to have made the Chamber of Secrets." But Savannah couldn't help grinning. Now wouldn't this interesting story belong to the most interesting founder of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry?
"And in there lived a basilisk, which I think is now dead." Savvy finished without a shudder. Instead of feeling afraid at the basilisk story, she felt, of course, interested.

"I think his last known descendants was the Gaunts." More! More! "He owned a famous locket that was his heirloom. It was later turned into a horcrux!" Savannah said excitedly.
Gavin raised his hand and when the teacher looker his way, he said: "I'm Gavin Johanson, Ravenclaw. Rowana Ravenclaw's preference was to teach to the students who were the most intelligent."

They were still divided into the house colors but they had been wiped clean of the notes. “Now I want you to share ONE attribute that the founders looked for in their houses when they were sorting....or ONE attribute that you feel your house is based on.” she glanced out and realized that might not make sense, so she decided to give an example. “For example, as Ms. Deluise mentioned earlier, Godric Gryffindor sleected students according to bravery. Now remember we don’t want this to turn into a battle between houses, so just stick with facts not your opinion on whether the founders were right or wrong in their decisions. Remember that was over 1100 years ago and times were different.” she said hoping to fend off the comments of ‘I believe that so and so believing that only pigs should be chosen was correct.’ Before she let them start answering she said once again, “ Make sure you say your house so the board knows which column to place your answer under.”

"Ooh ooh!" Knox said excitedly, waving his hand in the air. "Salazar Slytherin.. he uhm... he wanted people in his house that had lovely hair." The fifth year was deadly serious and nodded at the Professor. "I've seen him in the chocolate frog card.. have you seen his luscious locks? I think he wanted to carry that on in Slytherin house.."
Honestly? He had no idea. He'd spent his first four yeas at Beauxbatons and he'd never needed to read Hogwarts: A History. He thought his answer was a pretty good guess though.

Simon listened to the answers being given, by both his housemates and the other students. The seventh year tried to think of an answer for Godric Gryffindor that hadn't already been said, his mind flashing back to what he had read previously in various books he had come across including Hogwarts a History. However he was about to answer when the professor moved on to the next one. He raised his hand to offer what came to mind question however.
"Simon Bennett...Gryffindor house," he said giving identification first before continuing. "I think an atrribute for Gryffindor would be balance seeing as he wanted all of magical ability to attend Hogwarts."
Hugo raised his hand. "Hugo Doyle. Again. Ravenclaw," he said. "Ravenclaw sorted their students by their creativity," Hugo explained. One may have thought that intelligence was a better answer, but that was so obvious. Hugo was a creative person. So much that he thought he was more creative than intelligent.

Bleh. Just what kind of cake was that supposed to be? If it was chocolate, Evelyn was burning it. For real. If it was vanilla...it was going to be burned. If it was strawberry...
...Well, she'll think about that one. But, she had a question to answer. However, before she could answer the question, she had the important task of staring at that one boy who just answered that Slytherin wanted people with good hair. Good Merlin! Obviously we now know why he wasn't in Ravenclaw. It was already a given that all the Slytherin were amazingly good looking. No need to want it. It just happened on it's own. "Slytherin also valued ambition in his students."
The professor was just so excited about the great answers on the board. She glanced at the board with a smile and then back at the students. With a flick of her wand, the cakes from the different tables hovered over to the middle of each cluster of tables. “It’s almost that time to eat the cakes, I have one more question and then we’ll dig in.” she said as the cakes landed simultaneously.
“There are a few things that I want to add to the lists really quick.” she said glancing back at the board and with a flick of her wand a few more details were written across the different parts. ”There that will do..”

She turned back towards the class. “As you can see the founders were amazing wizards and witches with great talents and strengths. As you know, they created their houses in their image.” She flicked her wand and the boards flipped over again. They were still divided into the house colors but they had been wiped clean of the notes. “Now I want you to share ONE attribute that the founders looked for in their houses when they were sorting....or ONE attribute that you feel your house is based on.” she glanced out and realized that might not make sense, so she decided to give an example. “For example, as Ms. Deluise mentioned earlier, Godric Gryffindor sleected students according to bravery. Now remember we don’t want this to turn into a battle between houses, so just stick with facts not your opinion on whether the founders were right or wrong in their decisions. Remember that was over 1100 years ago and times were different.” she said hoping to fend off the comments of ‘I believe that so and so believing that only pigs should be chosen was correct.’ Before she let them start answering she said once again, “ Make sure you say your house so the board knows which column to place your answer under.”
As they answered, she flicked her wand and started placing a plate and a fork and a knife in front of each student. This time around she was mixing up the colors intentionally.

Gavin thought he had just said it but he would repeat it again. He raised his hand and waited to be acknowledge.
"Gavin Johanson, Ravenclaw. Rowana Ravenclaw was looking for intelligence in her students," he said... But he did feel like he was repeating himself. He wondered why his previous answer hadn't been added to the Board.

“Yes, as a fellow Ravvie mentioned Rowena was known for her beauty. If you ever get to see a portrait of her you can just see the beauty radiating off of her.” she said with a smile.
The professor smiled at the girl as she talked to the bowl, “I’m sorry Zara, but it won’t be able to give you Chocolate Kool-aid...actually I’ve never had that flavor but it sounds delightful.” she said and with a flick of her wand the girl’s name was changed on the board.
“Ms. Morets, that is something that is rumored to have happened between the two founders but today we are just focusing on facts about the two men.” she said with a smile at the girl.
The professor eyed the young man again when he answered her back with his name and at that moment she noticed the Prefect badge on his robes. That was very interesting that she was having to keep a Prefect awake. She made a mental note to visit with the Head of House about this one.
“Well, thank you Mr. Cartwright...I am truly sorry to interrupt your sleep...I mean concentration.” she said with a sweet smile...
The professor smiled at the young man who had presented another answer, “You are kind of correct on her death. She was killed by a broken heart. Thank you for your answer Mr. Doyle.” she said with a smile and she turned to make sure his name was added on the board.

Alex looked at the older boy and quickly touched his hair. So, he had good hair then? Since he was in Slytherin? He grinned happily and raised his hand.
"Alex Reed, Slytherin still." he grinned before adding. "Slytherin house valued and still values cunning people." he nodded. Just to mention one thing.

Amy almost snorted at the Slytherin's hair comment, Amy raised her arm, Amy Samson, hufflepuff, anyway, she valued hard work Amy nodded.
Even though Amy didn't really do the hard work thing and prefered to slump around the house eating chocolate and stunning choco frogs so she didn't need to move. Still, she liked History of Magic..
Oh and, totally not vain Amy said slyly. Maybe motherly she said, thinking of Sarah and Lori and how nice they'd been to her when she was crying about leaving. A year later, she was back. Still...

An attribute of her house? The brunnete had a flashback of the summer in a certain bookstore with a certain friend having a certain argument about houses. Kita bit her lip, trying not to laugh. She definitely knew this.
With the smile still on her face, she raised her hand. "Erm, Kita Lewis. Hufflepuff," she said, "Hufflepuff house values loyalty."Which is why the Puffs make the bestest of friends...
Stella raised her hand and said. "Stella Swan. Ravenclaw. I think Rowena wanted that the students in her house would be open minded, and not just 'book smart' she wanted them to be creative and maybe... Every person who gets sorted to Ravenclaw becomes automatically prettier, because Rowena was pretty" she said egoisticlly. "But that is just my point of view," she added. She didn't want to offend the houses that they are not as beautiful as the Ravenclaws. But someone from Slytherin did say that they have amazing hair, and maybe they do.

Drat! Why couldn't I give my own answer?? Well then, she thought, I'll just have to answer this one! "Problem-solving?" she asked. "Oh, Emmy Fallows, Ravenclaw." She sat down quickly. Perfectionism?she guessed silently, realizing that she was being way too competitive over nothing.
Simon looked at the Professor, this was getting silly. "My name is still Simon Leonarder De Simpson, Hufflepuff, Fourth Year." Simon looked at the Professor and decided to ask her something. "Why does the board need to know our name?" Simon was getting fed up of saying it over and over again. "Well anyway the Hufflepuff house is for people who are brave enough to own up when they have done something wrong." Simon smiled.
