Ariadne glanced pityfully at Rosemary. 'Oh, I hope you're ok. And...I knew this was going to be difficult.' the girl sighed. She now looked at the broom lying on the ground in front of her as if it were her greatest enemy in the world.

Ari concentrated on getting rid of any trace of nervouseness in her voice and then said 'Up!' again, this time confidently. The broom obeyed. 'Finally.' the firstie was relieved.

Ariella cleared her throat, placed her hand over her broom, and shouted "UP!" It rose up into her hand at once. She smiled, happy that she hadn't made a fool of herself at the first flying lesson of the year.

Rosemary shrugged, "It's alright.... Not as bad as having three books attack you!" She admitted with a smile, "Happens all the time!"

She then broke into a grin, "Nice!"

Freya looked at the school broom, she could totally do this. Take a deep breath, Freya. After she could calm herself, she placed her right hand over your broom. "UP!" she said in a firm voice and the broom smacked her. "Merlin!" That hurt and not to mention that definitely embarrass her to death but at least she didn't hurt other students.

The blonde repeat what she did before "UP!" and the broom flew up into her right hand and she smirked. Now we're talking!

Penny thought that maybe a few lessons couldn't hurt - She was really a beginner after all, just flying for three months..

She took one of the school brooms as indicated by the professor...laid it on the ground with tail branches pointed behind her...

Stood beside her broom, right hand outstretched over the broom....

"Up", she said, the broom didn't move
"Uuup, she said again.. and still the broom didn't budge
"UP"... she repeated in her most commanding voice.... and the broom soared up, but instead of going into her hand - it smacked her across the side of her head and promptly fell back to the ground again...
"OWW..."... rubbing her right eye, ear and nose....

Lets try this again shall we?"..she said, scolding the stupid broom

"UP"...The broom was still for a second, then rose slowly into the air..and into her outstretched hand....
"And about time too" Penny said, still rubbing her eye - with a feeling that she was going to go and see the matron for a bruise removal charm or something...

Awww man! why couldn't they just pick the broom up with their hands?

Daichi looked from left to right as students started to shout up everywhere. He looked down at the old schoolbroom in front of him and held his right hand over the broom. He already tried out for the Slytherin Quidditch team and had attended three try outs and je thought he was a decend flyer. Must be in his genes. So having to shout a small broom up was nothing right?

"UUUUUP!" Daichi shouted at his broom.

he waited and...nothing -_-;

Whaaat?! y-ya! something was TERRIBLE wrong with this broom! "Up!" nothing "Up please?" nothing. He sighed and pouted his lips. The slytherin looked towards the Professor and raised his hand. "Professooooooor! This broom won't go UP!" All of the sudden he felt something in his hand and as he looked down he saw his broom had flown up. "WAAAAH! SO COOl!"

Elektra looked down at the broom and she swallowed spit as she stared down her wooden enemy. She managed to look over at her red headed friend and see the broom lift with no problem. She scoffed. "That was luck. Watch this." She hesitated to stick her hand over the broom and her hand shook slightly. "um..uhh...up?" Elektra flinched and looked away from the broom and then looked at the broom and it didn't move. Elektra's eyes gazed over at Vindictus and almost felt like hissing at him. She did not like him what so ever!!!!!!! Oh, well. she had to suck it up. she cleared her throat and stiffened her hand and said, "up. Oh, come on....up! up! BLOODY UP!!!!" Elektra stomped her feet on the ground getting agravated

Professor Vindictus was pacing back and forth as he carefully watched the students perform the most simple and basic of all flying skills. Then he heard a Hufflepuff girl shouting at the school broom she selected for the lesson.

Oh, she did NOT just insult the broom.

"YOU!" bellowed Vindictus. "Just insulted that broom. It's no wonder that it's not following your ill-mannered command!"

He stared intently at her. "My instructions were to use a firm voice. At no time did I say to shout at the defenseless broom! Five points from Hufflepuff for insulting the broom. Now calm down and try it again . . . without shouting or using an angry voice."

Vindictus wanted to say something else but then he saw a Slytherin first year who wasn't following his instructions and he marched over to where she was standing.

"You must clearly be suffering from a severe case of ear wax buildup. Five points from Slytherin for not following instructions," Vindictus replied irately. "My instructions are for you to use a firm and clear voice. Nonverbal spells do not work on broomsticks. I suggest you put the broom back on the ground and do it again correctly."

He then heard Daichi call for help and walked over to where the Slytherin student was standing.

Just as he was within two feet of Daichi, Vindictus saw that the broom had finally flown up into the Slytherin's hand. "Next time, don't shout at it," he warned the student.

Satisfied that most of the students were finished performing the most basic step, he turned around and continued with the next set of instructions.

"Mount your broom and keep both feet firmly on the ground. Grasp the handle with both hands - just avoid strangling the handle with a tight grip. Oh, and anyone who goes airborne will lose points."

Ella blinked. ..Mount the broom? As in.. get on it?
Oh dear Lord...

Swinging her leg over, Ella wobbled.. held her breath for a few seconds, and stood still. Breathing heavily she grasped it firmly.. with both hands. Gripping it between her legs, Ella wiped her sweaty hands on her robes. She hadn't flown since the Summer.. this could end badly...

Gripping the broom again she rolled her head around her neck. It's fine.. totally fine! Youcan do this.. Oh, Merlin!

Oh. Now she was shaking.. the broom also seemed to be shaking. Breathing deeply, she pursed her lips and got a grip. Oh come on Ella.. you can ride a young 15.1 horse who repeatedly tries to throw you off then stamp on you.. you can totally handle this!

Looking up, she opened her eyes and flicked her long curls back. You can so do this! She hoped?

Kyle looked up to Vindictus as he said to mount the brooms, and stay grounded. Basically don't kick off or you will get points taken away. Easy right?

Holding the broom firmly, but not too tightly in her hand she swung her right leg over the broom, and placing both of her feet firmly on the ground she stood there. Both hands on the broom handle her feet firmly on the ground - she looked like she had as a kid when she'd pretended to 'ride' her mum's cleaning broom around the house as a kid.

But she wasn't going to go up in the air, not now at least. She was focused, and kept her feet firmly directly on the ground.

Woah.

Jamie watched as the Professor deducted house point after house point. When Slytherin lost five, the third year grumbled. He didn't know why, but those house points meant a lot to him. Anyway, back to reality, back to this horrible lesson...

Mount. What did 'mount' mean? Watching a few other students, he put the puzzle together and realized that he had to get on the broom. Clutching it for dear life, Jamie sat on top of his broom, making it into much a bigger deal than it actually was. His toes even curled up within his shoes, just for that extra stability. But he had done it now! Successfully mounted his broom with his feet still on the ground!

Was the lesson over now?

Presley grinned. While the professpr had said flying right now would lose you points, mounting the brrom meant they were about to be flying. She swung her left leg over the broom, and adjusted her grip on the handle until she was holding it the way she had been taught. Vindictus seemed not to be in a great mood today, so she was trying not to do anything to get her noticed in a negative way. Her house-mates would not appreciate her losing them points.

Rosemary gulped as she mounted her broom but focused to keep it on the ground whilst maintaining a light hold.

While watching the students (and the Head Boy) mount their brooms, Vindictus had an idea after catching a glimpse of the group sitting in the stands watching the lesson.

"Captains! Finn!" he called out. "Over here, now! And make sure you have a broom!"

Kyle couldn't help but mentally kick herself when Vindictus called to the captains. Was she going to be trained to 'fly' by Simon and Jacob? She thought raising an eyebrow and looking off towards the stands. But she stayed where she was not moving an inch, her body somewhat rooted with the ground as her legs felt like they were bolted to the ground.

She'd just wait there to see what Vindictus had up his sleeve.

Selina did as she was told, mounting her broom and holding the handle with a firm but not too firm grip. This was simple enough. She had been doing this since she was three and it was second nature to the second year. But then she looked over to where the Captains were and she wondered what was Vindictus doing?

Elektra looked at her broom and said, "Up!" a final time only this time...the broom came up alright. Except the broom smacked Elektra in the face causing her to fall back and groan. "Oh bloody hell!" Elektra picked herself up slowly and then forcefully picked the broom up in anger and rubbed her jaw feeling the most pain there and she heard his next instructions. She gripped onto the broom a little tighter than usual and she exhaled out slowly puting the broom between her legs, keeping her feet firm and on the ground and chuckling nervously.

Spike pondered the broom in his right hand. See, what he'd usually do was swing his left leg up and over, and he'd be on. Except the broom was on the wrong side, to do the same way felt wrong. Just standing on the other foot wobbling around felt wrong. And he didn't wanna look odd running round the broom, when Professor Vindictus had specifically said stand with the broom on the right.

Lifting his right leg up gingerly, Spike went to step over the broom. He missed judged the height of it, however, and toppled over the top head first. "Oomph!" he exclaimed, though the sound was muffled by a faceful of grass. "Bother," he said, with a crooked smile at the broom and quick peek round to see if anyone else had noticed. He took the broom carefully into his left hand (for he was now stood on the other side) and roughly brushed the loose grass and dirt from his robes and hair.

So, he hadn't exaclty planned on the faceplant (and he hoped no-one had seen his little accident). BUT there was one advantage. He was now on his usual side of the broom. And with that, he casually swung his left leg over, and stood with the broom between his legs. Sitting down, he took comfortable grip of the handle, and gave himself a little nod. Sorteddddd.

The fourteen year old Puff walked across the field and over to Professor Vindictus when he called the captains over to him. She had a broom in her hand, like he had told them to. She had gotten it from the rack of school brooms. "Yes, professor?" She was there, and ready to do whatever it was she had called her over to do.

Simon made his way across to where the students were gathered, most of them mounted, wondering what the professor had in mind for them since he hadn't asked them to help before. Taking a school broom off the rack seeing as he hadn't had his own with him, the Gryffindor captain followed what the class had done before almost as a delayed showing them how it was done.

"Up..." Simon spoke clearly taking it in his hand as it responded with relative ease. The seventh year smiling softly to his fellow Gryffindors and Kyle before mounting so he could wait for further instructions.

It had taken Kana merely two tries to get the broom up. She wasn't particularly interested in flying, but she was bored, figuring it'd be fun to at least start to learn. She swung one leg over the broom and held it as instructed--as she would hold firmly, yet gently, to a quill when she was inspired.

She ever-so-slightly bobbed her head to the beat of a song that was in her head. Once the lesson was over, she'd have to grab her muggle music player and listen to it. Cool.

Selina stayed mounted on her broom awaiting further instructions, but looked to her left where Elektra was. She could not contain a giggle as the broom slapped her friend in the face. "Don't be so mean to the broom Elektra." But then the broom was gripped so tightly by Elektra she thought her friend was going to strangle it, "Elektra don't strangle it. The broom has some kind of connection with you when you fly. If you're not nice to it, why would if be nice to you mid air?"

Kyle smiled back to Simon and watching as he called the broom up to him with ease. Maybe she needed to be more 'ruthless' and 'firm' in more things than Divinations if that was how a broom was supposed to react. She made a mental note of that and felt herself still smiling. She always smiled really it was her 'thing' maybe, but it felt good, uplifting really to smile.

Anasta, Slytherin House Third year, has done several times (during current lesson Quidditch Pitch till now) manipulation with hir own school broom: in a firm voice! Results might be better...

"Aww... But I din't finish my chocolate bar..." he said sadly.

The Ravenclaw Captain moved from his lawn chair to the middle of the pitch with the other captains. Candy bar still at hand, Jacob grabbed a broom.

He reached Vindictus, and asked. "You want some professor." offering the man some of his chocolate, cause what else was he going to do with it. Let it melt in his pocket? No! That was gross. But it sounded delicious... mmmmmm... Melted Chocolate.

"Was there something you needed from us?" Wait was he supposed to do the Basic stuff. That was stupid. He was Captain... and winner of the Quidditch Cup. Why would vindictus make him stoop this low
