Tayla furrowed her eyebrows in concentration. "Up!" she shouted. But the broom just wriggled on the ground. "Come on...up! Up! Up!" Though the broom lifted a couple inches off the ground, it still didn't come up to her hand.

Tayla watched nervously at the other students. She didn't want to be the last one to be calling her broom.

"This is harder than actually flying the broom..." she thought, remembering the flying lesson her mum gave her before she left for Hogwarts. "Okay...come on Tayla...focus!"

She shrugged, shook her arm, stretched it over the broom again and said as firmly as she could, "Up!"

The force of the broom coming up against her hand made her step back a little, but there was a big grin on her face. She looked around at her classmates. Some already had their brooms in their hands. Others were still shouting.

How did she make the bloody broom stop?! Would yelling stop at the top of her lungs do it? Or would she have to literally tackle the broom? But, if she did that would Professo Vindictus get mad at her for mounting her broom before he had instructed her to do so?!

Flailing her arms around a bit in panic, and very much wanting to take her wand out and perform the Freezing Charm on the broom but knowing that he would be upset that she performed back, Kurumi ran around in a circle before deciding to go with option A.

"STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!" she shrieked closing her eyes hoping that IF there was any impact with the broom and her Flying professor that she would miss it.

Waiting to hear some sort of crash, or bang, or ZOINK, Kurumi peeked out through this gaps between her fingers to see that the broom had stopped midflight. The next instant, it fell with a gentle thud onto the pitch.

THANK YOU MERLIN'S HIPPOGRIFF!

Scampering over, Kurumi picked up the broom, smiled nervously at Professor Vindictus, and returned to her spot on the line.

Tayla watched wide-eyed at Kurumi and her broom. "That was so cool Kurumi!" she turned red. "I mean...not that I want you in trouble. The broom stopped when you said it did! That's really cool!"

"UP!" Presley ordered in her most authoritative voice. The broom rose most of the way to her hand, and hovered for a moment, but didn't come all the way up. Presley just grabbed it. It didn't seem to want to do anything else. She looked around and watched all of the other students. Some were getting it right off, others were struggling. But Pres thought it was probably normal not to get it the first time. The first time her dad had told her to do this, it took her five times to get the broom to roll over in the grass. Granted she'd been three years old, but the memory still stung a little.

Seeing the girl beside him get her broom to at least get off the grass, Preston was even more determined to make his do what it was supposed to do. He took another deep breath, arm outstretched. "UP." He commanded again. He threw his head back with a sigh as the broom did absolutely nothing, for the third time in a row.

Clearing his throat and clearing thoughts out of his head, Preston was ready to try once again. "Up." He commanded in a strong voice. The broom rolled over a couple of times and then became motionless again.

Peyton quietly giggled at the girl's wacky broom. Man, if her's did that it'd end up thrown into the Forbiden Forest. Turning back to her own broom, she smiled. The thing had TWITCHED! That was an improvement. She knelt beside it an poked it, "You better go UP, got it Twitchy," she whispered to it. She figured if the other girl's broom had listened to her, then her's will listen to her.

Standing up straight, Peyton smoothed her robes and placed her hand above the broom. This time...this time she had it. She could feel it in her toes. "UP!" she narrowed her eyes and flinched when she felt the wood hit her palm. Quickly closing her hand around it, a HUGE smile of victory spread on P's face.

Oh yeah, she got this.

Mhmm.

"UP !", Janet said as strong (not loud) as she can. And guess what, the broom did not respond. "UP!" She said again. The broom twitched. Improvement. "UP! Please?". "I'm crazy", she thought. But the broom flew to to her hands and she quickly grabbed it before it starts to fall down. "I did it !", she thought

Charlie placed her hand over the broom and said, "Up!". It quivered slightly but stayed on the ground. Charlie sighed. Breathing out slowly she repeated calmly, "Up." The broom twitched and jumped up slightly but fell back to the ground. Maybe it was because it wasn't her broom that it wasn't coming. She missed her Nimbus 2000 as she sometimes flew it on the weekend, playing catch with her dad. "Ok, calam," shae said and repeated, "Up." and it flew up into her hand.
"Yes!" Victory

Stepping up beside her broom, Ella scowled down at it. 'You better not try anything.. Looking up again, she shook her hair, making it shimmer when the sun hit it.

Pursing her lips slightly, she saw a load of people who already had their brooms in their hands. Now it was her turn. Sticking her left hand over the broom she said loudly and clearly: 'Up!' ....

The broom twitched a bit. It was mocking her. Ella growled. 'Up!' Ella held her breath as the broom rose a fraction.. hovered.. then dropped with a dull thud..
Ella's eyebrows were now permanently stuck down in a scowl. Grrr.
'It's not hard you know..
'Up,up.. UPPPP!
The broom flew into her hand, staggering back Ella blinked. Ow..

Waahhh, flying!

Jamie's absolute worst nightmare. But he wouldn't deny that he needed the extra help. The Slytherin could fly a broomstick just as well as an inanimate object could. He stood as far away from the Professor as he could manage, then looked down at his broomstick when the first instruction was given. He breathed. Okay, easy enough.. "Up." He almost whispered, and the broom just sat there. "U-up." Still nothing. What the heck was this thing!?!?! Surely it was faulty.

Kicking the broomstick slightly, Jamie firmly put his hand in the air, on top of the broom. "UP, YOU BLOODY THING. UP." He broom did move this time. But it moved away from him. The third year watched, mind boggled.

He frantically ran towards it, retrieved it and placed it in its correct position. "I'm sorry, lovely broomstick. Didn't mean to yell at you." He said in a soft, very quiet voice. One, to sooth the broomstick. And two, to not embarrass himself. Right, one more try, or else he was snapping the broom in half.

1, 2, 3... "UP!" Not expecting it to happen, Jamie fell backwards when it did. Onto his butt, to be precise. Merlin's Beard! He had picked himself a violent broomstick! Standing back up, the third year regained his position and painted a perfectly calm expression on his face.

He handled that well, he thought.

Fee wasnt a first year and she new all about the basics but a little practise before the Quidditch try outs and everything would start didnt seem to bad.So here she was waiting for the professor 's first instruction.

The Slytherin giggled a little as she heard what they had to do,soo cute.Placing her right hand over her broom,she grinned."Up!",the blonde commanded and within a second the broom lay in her hand.Nice.That was easy.So when would they really fly?!Thinking back to her first flying lesson,the third year smiled widely.That was when she had met Hugo for the first time.Giggle.

Mmm. Flying Basics. Finlay really hoped that he could do tihs. Because it would be pretty embarrasing if he couldn't. Flying was his best subject, and he had gone to try out for one of the best professional teams in the country. If he couldn't do something as basic as get the broom to come up to him.
Finn placed his hand over broom, and eyed it. yes. You better work. "Up" He commanded in a strong voice. But then he frowned. It hadn't worked. That was lame.

Finn glanced around. Yup...he looked pretty lame right now.

Spike had skipped to go collect a school broom from the rack, and on returning had carefully laid it down. He looked at it, checking what Professor Vindictus had said: twigs behind (obviously, though going backwards might be kinda fun...) and broom on the right. Hang on...on the right? He hopped over the broom, a frown on his face. He hadn't flown since last year's final exam, but he was sure he usually stood with it on his left. He was left handed afterall.

He glanced up at his House of House, before shrugging. It couldn't be any different using his right hand, could it? Holding his hand out, Spike gave both his unfamiliar right hand and broom a crooked smile. It'd better work, cos he wanted to be flyingggg.

"Up!"

The broom twitched, one end barely lifting off the floor. He eyed it stealthily. Surely after a year it might actually listen to him? Boy, he couldn't wait til he could afford his own broom. "Up!" Nothing. Gah.

Bending down, Spike stroked the broom along the handle, like he'd stroke Matilda if she was in a stress. "Okay Mr. Broom. Or Miss. Broom. Broom. I'd like very much to fly you today. And maybe again in tryouts. So please could you be nice and help me out?" He straightened back up, and looked at the broom, giving it a reassuring nod.

"Up!" Reeeeesult. The broom appeared under his hand, and he gingerly held it. One, because he didn't trust it, and two, because it felt odd in the wrong hand.

Firm... weak.. Uh oh. Hayley saw the other students had done it.

She crouched near the broom that she got from the closet and said:" Help me out here kay?" She must've looked weird doing that, but she doesn't mind it.

Okay.. "Up...?" The broom just stay there motionless. Well, she admit that the command was bad. Nevermind, let's try again..

"Up." The broom just twitched a little.. Means good? "UP." The broom just flew above the ground only A LITTLE, then landed with a thud. It's like the broom has an invisible string tying it to the ground. Ughh.

"UUUPP" please?? Fhoop! The broom flew right into her palm. Shocked, she quickly close her fringers around it. Bingo! She succeeded! Now, to wait for the next instruction...

'Up!' Rose said confidently. The broomstick jumped off the ground and into Rose's hand like it usually did at home.

Zara, who was still quite nervous at this, did as she professor instructed. With the broom lying on the ground to her right, its tail twigs pointing behind her, and her right hand over her broom, she said "Up!" softly. Nothing happened.

Apparently, soft doesn't do the trick. This time she said "Up!" in a more firm voice. The broom just wiggled on the floor like a fish on the ground. She sighed and tried once more. "Up!" Then the broom rose to life, almost hitting her so she ducked and looked behind. Great. The broom laid lifeless again. She got it and placed it back where it was supposed to be.

She was getting a bit scared of it. But, it was flying class, she can't escape now. Now, she commanded, "Up!" And it went up, and Zara caught it with her hand. Whew, finally.

Looking around, she watched as the others also tried to make their broom obey.

Flying. A class Daisy could actually do; she had been flying since forever. Her broom on the ground, she raised her hand above it...
'Up!' she told the broom, which flew into her hand as it usually did. Daisy was pleased the broom did as she asked, she didn't want to look like an idiot when she was so good at flying.

Kurumi's head slowly turned to her right where she saw Tayla looking at her all bright eyed and bushy tailed just like an eager first year ought to. Then reality hit her. Oh....she had seen that? Well, she supposed that everyone had seen her broom go shooting off towards Professor Vindictus.

Still, no harm, no foul? Right?

"Um...t-th-th-thanks," Kurumi squeaked setting her broom back down on the ground and staring at it. It was like her mother used to tell her whenever her and her brothers would try to talk to their father in complicated Japanese that he didn't know. Saying the words louder, to the point of shouting, wouldn't make him understand anymore. Clearly, the same principle applied to the broom.

Raising one's voice at it wouldn't solve anything.

Standing as tall and straight as she could, Kurumi held her hand out over the broom once more and deep several DEEP calming breaths and visualized the broom rising from the ground and into her hands. Only after doing so did she whisper, "UP!"

Before she knew it, she felt the handle of the broom against her palm and, when she opened her eyes, saw that it was hover right there next to her like a dog that had just been trained to heel.

Okay. Lets get one thing straight here, Amy was a) excedingly clumsy, even more so than Sammy who had managed to fall in a cauldron, b) hated flying but was being made to by her mother, who was a bloody muggle and c) got angry. Easily.

Up you STUPID THING! She shouted at it angrilly, up! She tried again. Uuuurrgghhh. Come on mannn she whined, get uppp she wimpered.

Oh yeah. That was it, she swung in roundabouts, from excedingly angry to pleading. And now was a pleading moment, pleeeasssse broom she cried get UP!

Back to angry it was..

Rosemary hovered her hand over her broom and concentrated before exclaiming firmly yet quietly, "Up." The broom came most of the way quite slowly but she then grabbed it before it changed it's mind.

Though it then whacked her in the head anyway. "Oh!" She exclaimed as she rubbed her head.

She could see some first years still struggling to get their brooms up. Whilst it is not her first time flying, Aiden manages to grasp her broom as soon as she summons it up.

Gwen looked at her broom hoping she wouldn't do something stupid this time as well. She had to admit she was a little scared of this lesson. Although she spent the past 11 years mostly with wizards, she never tryed to fly .Um...maybe once, but that was a total desaster, so she liked thinking this was actually her first attempt of flying.

'Up?', she said staring at the broom. Nothing happened.
'Up!', she said once again hoping it would finally listen to her. Again, nothing
'Up!',the girl announced once again.Of course, nothing happened.
'Up!', she told the to broom, this time, not only hoping it would come up, but, if it didn't she hoped that she wasn't the only one around who couldn't make her broom come up

'UP!', she yelled this time and the broom raised really fast and almost managed to smack her. Unexpectedly, Gwen ducked just in time to prevent a bad injury. Great...that's just great!, she thought.

Finally, after a while, she decided to try once again.'Up!', she said with a cold, demanding voice. This time, she managed to get the broom raise up.

The boy next to Presley was having a hard time, and she wanted to help, but she didn't know if that was okay. She wasn't the teacher, and she wasn't an expert. Finally she decided to ask him.
"Would you like some help?" she asked shyly.

Uh-oh. Flying. The only subject Ariadne really felt nervous about. She tried to swallow hard to make the lump in her throat disappear. Slim chances. Nervously, she did everything as instructed and then prepared to command the broom to lift. Only, she couldn't summon up the courage to do it, so she just watched her mates for a while.

Eventually, she realized she had to do something. Raising her hand, she muttered a faint 'Up.' As expected, nothing happened. Raising her voice, she tried again. Still nothing. Again. Third time's a charm, right? Ari commanded the broom to raise again. It did so, but only for a few seconds, and then it crashed to the ground with a thud. Brilliant.

Rosemary gave an encouraging smile, 'At least yours didn't whack you in the head?' She conveyed as she still massaged her head.
