Upon entering the Divination classroom, it seems the decor has been changed back to the way it had been set up for the tasseomancy lesson the previous term, or at least similar. Instead of desks, there are quite a few small round wooden tables arranged around the classroom, still leaving room between to walk, even if the chairs are pulled out. Four chairs sit around each table, but other than that there is nothing much to show what the topic that is going to be discussed is. Even the bookshelves along the wall are covered by a drape of colorful fabric, which at least lends some excitement to the room, and is made even brighter by the sunlight streaming in from open windows.
The only curious thing in the room would probably be the crystal ball close by Professor Bishop's elbow, seemingly ignored by her as she is idly focused on the Tarot cards she has arranged on the table in front of her. Is that part of the lesson, or just decoration?
ooc: The lesson will start no later than at some time midday tomorrow (PST), but feel free to post yourselves entering, etc. Curiosity is entirely welcome, as to what Professor Bishop is doing or anything else, but try not to involve yourselves in too much chatting amongst yourselves. I'll be checking in again later tonight, to reply if necessary.
"We can work together as a group. Would make sense the way the tables were laid out and Zara already volunteered to take notes," Simon replied glancing momentarily at the younger girl in question. His attention drawn back to Kyle as he heard her laughter.
"Its...alright. No harm done," he assured her even though deep down what had happened had raised questions for him. The Gryffindor pushed it aside to try and concentrate on actual classwork. "How about the fact that whatever medium is used that it has to be clear to avoid distraction or an error in reading because you think something is there in the scrying when its not, its on the surface being used..." His attention now on the group as a whole as he spoke and waited for the rest of the discussion.

Maybe Hannah could read minds. She covered her ears. So she couldn't here what she was thinking. Realizing how crazy she must have looked she put her hands down. She looked from Kyle to Simon. Maybe groups would be a good idea. "Groups. That sounds like a good idea. "
She was glad he didn't push the subject about Hannah right now - anyways, it was class time and no one wanted to lose house points now did they? She didn't know he had any questions about what her cousin had said but - that wasn't like she didn't expect him to not have questions. They'd have to talk about it later.
"Groups it is then" she smiled over to Caroline, it was going to be a lot easier working with both her, and Simon mainly because of the awkward moment that had happened not-so-long before.
"And thanks for taking notes Zara," Kyle smiled, she seemed like a really nice girl. "Mmm, yeah good point they even have to have the crystal itself be free of any imperfections and most of the time people use quartz and not say rose quartz for crystalomancy" she nodded good point good point. "Um - one thing I read about is that you are supposed to have a dark velvet or simply dark cloth under the crystal and dim lighting to make it less of a distracting atmosphere and so you see what your minds eye is telling you to see"

There! At least someone agreed with Ariana! Nodding at Samira's point, she tried to steer the conversation back to what they were supposed to be talking about by just nodding and not commenting.
"Right, and maybe saphires or emeralds? And also, do you think the visions would be specific to whoever owns or wears the jewelry?" Ariana was just fishing around here, she didn't really know about that, it was just an idea.
Samira's eyes snapped to Ariana. "That's a really good point!" She had a sudden epiphany. Working with smart Ravenclaws had it's perks. "Maybe the jewelry could even have some history. I mean, depending on who has worn it previously, it could have a story." That made sense, right? "Maybe if the person did have a vision, it would be like a premonition, or flashback or something."
She then turned to Nika. "We're not ganging up on you, Pink! Can we please just stay logical?" Flying pigs? Really? Let's stay on topic please!

Hmph. Flying pigs are perfectly logical. Had she not been listening to Nika at all? She just gave a perfectly good explanation about them living on the other side of the moon on a magical planet. And they call muggles ignorant.

"You eat your fortunes." Nika said looking rather appalled. Ew! Those things are paper. "I don't know what chinese place you go to but where I go the paper isn't edible." She said with a chuckle.
"No, Nika, I meant I eat the cookies because they're yummy! Not the paper!" Trust Nika to come up with something totally random and irrellevant.

Didn't make much sense but it was the most she could come up with at the spur of the moment. Nika didn't want to be right, she just didn't want to be wrong.
This off-topic discussion was just going to go on, wasn't it? Ariana jotted something down really quickly about it. "But, we have proof the fortune tellers are false. We don't have proof that pigs don't fly. Here, let me be more specific. 'Muggle fortune tellers, with no magic or magical instruments, on Earth, do not really predict the future.' Got it?" She was getting a little tiny bit exasperated. Really, Nika? Really?

"Yeah! Like old family heirlooms, you could see both the past and the future... and maybe the past repeating itself in the future? You know, going back to the whole 'history repeats itself' theory?" Woot! This was going well!

She thought a little on Professors and said "hmm, i think we could use any smooth surface like a bowl of liquid or a pond or a crystal too, to do scrying, what do you think?" she asked Helena giving a sweet smile. She didn't actually knew why was she smiling but she just smiled at her.
Helena, who was still discussing... whatever she was, with Feenella, suddenly heard a voice, talking to her. She looked up and found Lucy, her first ever Divination partner. Hehe. "Hey. Sure you can," she said, smiling, as Lucy was already sitting down next to her.
"Those would work too," she said thoughtfully. "But I don't think the surface has to be smooth. Just think about crystall balls." Those shiny things that she was talking about with Feenella. Aaaand not only crystal balls. It could be a really shiny stone as well, right?

"Oh well going back to the tin foil I have something we could put under the no pile!" She said excitedly. After that little discussion she was ready to contribute again.
"Well if the foil is a crumpled up you can't see anything in it so it would be a no as far as the scrying thing." She beamed at her answer. "And for a yes, well it's reflective and it could reflect the food that your putting it on so maybe in the food you can see a fortune or something?"

Samira was starting to get excited. "That's exactly what I was thinking!" She mused about the thought for a moment. "But how would you actually receive the vision? I mean, something would have to trigger it right? I don't think people just have random visions out of no where when wearing jewelry." An interesting thought, but no.
Glancing over at the notes, Samira shook her head. "Definitely fake. If the fortune tellers were real, they would be magical, and if they were magical they would be in the Wizarding world, not Muggle streets." So there.

"Well maybe they're just wizards in disguise?" She suggested. But she was done with this. If they weren't going believe her they never would.

"Well, maybe if you were in a place especially... um, clairvoyant? Or..." Ariana tried to think of other times you could get a vision. "Maybe if you go to the place where the past or future thing occurred or will occur?" Wow, past and future stuff really did account for some confusing grammar...

Samira tapped her chin thoughtfully. "That's a really good point. Like, if an event took place while someone was wearing an article of jewelry...then if another person wearing the same jewelry were to walk in the same place...they would get a vision." That actually made sense. Taking another look at the notes, Samira looked amused. "Food could work, too. Maybe if you're eating a certain food that someone else you have a connection to ate during an important event...or, no? Does that sound silly to you?" The Slytherin was starting to confuse herself.

Nika still wasn't fully satisfied with the argument "developed discussion", but they were in class so....
Hmph. Could be real.
"Oh and in the tin foil you could erm... see maybe images reflecting from behind you and you can probably interpret those images kinda like you would with the tea leaves?" Tea leaves. Now Nika wants tea.

"Can't it depend on what brand of tin foil you use?" She asked. Nika was starting to run out of ideas. Maybe it would be better to let the ravenclaw handle this. BUT NO! Nika shall not give up. Determination.

Silence. Silence. Awkward silence. Ariana broke it. With awkward speech.
"I guess... maybe we should move on to some of the less physical things and some of the more spiritual ones?" Just a thought, y'know?

Er...
"Ok, let me get this straight. Tin foil can be a form of divination, but we're not sure how. Nika, I get what you meant." She turned to Ariana to elaborate, since it was a bit confuzzling. "I think what she meant was if you see a reflection of someone or something in the tin foil, it could trigger a memory or vision." She looked at Nika. "That is what you meant, right?"
Samira was agreeing with Ariana a lot today. It's like they shared the same thoughts. Weeeiirddd."Ariana's right. Moving on..."

"Right..." It seemed like Samira was on the same thought wave as Ariana. She'd read a book about that once.. Had she read a book about everything once? No, not quite, but most things, apparently.
"So, with both jewelry and tinfoil, why do you think these visions happen? Like, would it only be to a true Seer, or could anyone have a vision? Is it random people who are picked to have visions, or because of their place in life?" Well, someone had to ask the deep, theoretical questions, didn't they?
Ariana also made sure her notes were fully updated.

"Well I think maybe the images seen will act as a sort of trigger or something like Samira mentioned." She said nodding her head. "If it's not like that and it's just that you get a random vision then what's the point of the reflective object? You know what I mean?" Did anyone know what she meant?

"You're turn to play the Lion Scribe?" Kurumi winked nodding to the first year. It was only fair that she passed the reins on every once in a while.
Zara smiled at Kurumi, "Yup!" Zara said, as she scribbled down notes.

Clearing her throat, she spoke softly. "Soooo" the elongated and awkward 'so' was so extremely awkward. Gulp. "Um, do any of you guys want to partner up or do you want to - er - talk as a group?" She asked eyes wide with shock still.
Glancing over to Simon she suddenly broke out into a fit of awkward laughter. "Sorry about earlier - I-I don't know where she got that from" she tried to be less awkward but that was hard when people assumed you were dating someone you just so happened to think was nice - and quite possibly liked.

She was still in shock over what Hannah had said. What was she thinking? Was she crazy? You don't just go around to guys and girls who are friends and start assumming things. Maybe Hannah could read minds. She covered her ears. So she couldn't here what she was thinking. Realizing how crazy she must have looked she put her hands down. She looked from Kyle to Simon. Maybe groups would be a good idea. "Groups. That sounds like a good idea. "

"Um - one thing I read about is that you are supposed to have a dark velvet or simply dark cloth under the crystal and dim lighting to make it less of a distracting atmosphere and so you see what your minds eye is telling you to see"
Zara nodded at Simon, and wrote down what he said.
Smiling at Caroline, who spoke to her the first time, Zara replied, "Nice to meet you too, Caroline," with a smile.
"It's not really a problem, Kyle," the little Gryffindor smiled and scribbled some more notes.
Then Zara had a question she had in mind that was bothering her. Lately, she's been having strange dreams, and now since divination talked about past, present, and future, maybe it could possibly interpret dreams somehow? She didn't know, but she could ask, right? "Erm, is is possible to use scrying into interpreting dreams?"

"I don't think it would only have to be a Seer," said Samira. "But I do think it would at least have to be someone magical, not just any old Muggle." *cough* frauds *cough* "Have you ever heard of someone having another life in another time?" asked Samira suddenly, remembering something she picked up in a book. "I don't really know much about that, but maybe it has to do with it. Or maybe...maybe they were meant to have the vision. Maybe there was a reason, ya know?Like a sign or...something." Samira thought she was onto two very logical answers, but she still knew little to nothing on the subject, so hopefully her inferencing was right.
Rose leaned across and introduced herself to Janice..."Hi i'm Rose, Gryffindor, first year..."..
Rose had been very quiet for a while, thinking.... then suddenly had a brain wave.."Can mirrors be used for Scrying?... I have a vision about some woman like a thousand year ago using a mirror to see the face of her future husband or something.."
"I'm Niss, and your idea is really cool."
