Upon entering the Divination classroom, it seems the decor has been changed back to the way it had been set up for the tasseomancy lesson the previous term, or at least similar. Instead of desks, there are quite a few small round wooden tables arranged around the classroom, still leaving room between to walk, even if the chairs are pulled out. Four chairs sit around each table, but other than that there is nothing much to show what the topic that is going to be discussed is. Even the bookshelves along the wall are covered by a drape of colorful fabric, which at least lends some excitement to the room, and is made even brighter by the sunlight streaming in from open windows.
The only curious thing in the room would probably be the crystal ball close by Professor Bishop's elbow, seemingly ignored by her as she is idly focused on the Tarot cards she has arranged on the table in front of her. Is that part of the lesson, or just decoration?
ooc: The lesson will start no later than at some time midday tomorrow (PST), but feel free to post yourselves entering, etc. Curiosity is entirely welcome, as to what Professor Bishop is doing or anything else, but try not to involve yourselves in too much chatting amongst yourselves. I'll be checking in again later tonight, to reply if necessary.

That's what someone familiar with crystal balls may expect. But I think I would see the present in the clearest form; things hidden, things misunderstood, things not clear, even things lost. That's what I would expect to see in a crystal ball." He was confident in his answer whether right or wrong at the least he would now know what to expect if he did look into a crystal ball.
Renée hadn’t really expected to surprise Jai by her question, but it seemed like she had. Her intent had been to get him to think further, and as he started to speak again, she nodded slightly. “Spoken by someone who seems a bit conflicted between the science of the matter and the magic,” she said lightly as he finished. “One would generally see whatever they liked in a crystal ball, as like most things, it is all about interpretation. One person could see the present, while another could see something representing the future, so you have a healthy outlook, I’d say,” she replied thoughtfully. That was one reason she rarely tried using a crystal for her work, but even so, it was a good topic to teach about. Even if that wasn’t exactly what she was planning on having them discuss.

Queen Beryl perhaps...
Kurumi thought for a moment about what Professor Bishop said, especially about using reflections and images in crystal balls to read into the future. "Professor Bishop, could you use any object that can reflection or cast shadows for the purpose of scrying? Or are there certain properties that the object must have? For example, Egyptians used ink, blood and other dark liquids when performed scrying. So, it seems like something that is liquid would ned to be dark. Can you not use water in a bowl?"

However, she didn't really get the chance to ask since Bishop started to continue with the class. Eh, she'd just look up Ephermal later. There had to be something in the library about it.
Wait...no way. NO WAY! "Fire can be used for scrying." she SMILED. Why was she smiling? Because! Fire was INVOLVED. "Are we by any chance using fire for anything today?"
She had to know.

Scrying--it sounded like crying to her. So the images inside the crystal ball were really just perceptions and not actual images? Ha! She knew this subject was a fake! Nevertheless, she raised her hand, if for nothing else than to at least attempt a decent grade. She could just imagine the look on her father's face if she brought home failing grades! "What about water or fire? Or smoke for that matter?" she suggested.

"Professor, aren't mirrors used in scrying as well" and then, if her memory served her well they had talked about a certain type of scrying the year before. "Also, wouldn't pyromancy be typically listed as a type of scrying even though it is with fire" yes she did love fire, mainly because it kept you warm...not setting things on fire. "As I recall, the most commonly used types of scrying are crystalomancy, pyromancy, Catoptromancy, and as Simon stated scrying with water which is a type of hydromancy" she blushed.
Yes, blushed. Even though she was a Ravenclaw she didn't always like giving huge speeches.

Although the concept, knowing what was coming next, had a certain appeal to it, the burden of carrying around the future on one's conscious must be exhausting. Selina would know.
As the conversation blossomed and Bishop made a few comments on those seeing the future Selina flinched. It was not exactly the topic of conversation that Selina enjoyed talking about. But that was the difficulty in attending this class. Sometimes she had to stretch out beyond her comfort zone of denial to the general public and fear of what she would see next to try to conquer her ability. But it was taking a long time.
She then slowly rose her hand and kept her eyes down at the desk. Any unneeded attention was not something Selina wanted, "Well ma'am, water reflections and mirrors are common practices of channeling the future in this practice." Selina would know first hand, for sometimes when she looked in the mirror she saw something from the future back.

Considering she didn't know much about divination, her answer sounded very reasonable and smart.
As it stood, it seemed her students had done their homework when it came to the logical forms of scrying, and for the most part their responses had met with a nod and a smile. Renée hadn’t exactly been surprised that Evelyn would have brought up fire, or that Sierra, Kurumi and Treyen were involved in the responses. “Unfortunately, we won’t be discussing or dealing much with fire in class today, but yes, pyromancy could be considered a form of scrying, involving the flames and the smoke. As would the use of clouds, William. Neither are necessarily what we’re discussing here today, but they are valid and correct answers.” She wasn’t about to open herself up to the gossip mill this early, that she was endangering students.
“In this case, I was aiming for the methods that involve reflection. Mirrors, water, crystal . . . both in orb form and otherwise. Most often it requires a smooth surface, but there are cases where disturbing the surface could aid in finding images. Once again, it ends up being more an art of interpretation. Of movement, color play, tiny flaws. As I’m sure most of you would say, it’s highly inexact, but somehow people manage to predict things anyhow.” That would be the reason why she found Divination so fascinating, as well as the reason why she always felt the need to prove herself. Teaching was the easiest way to do that.

Specially when it comes to Josh. Speaking of which he turned his head back towards Evelyn just as she said she was good-good. "Great!" the Slytehrin lad replied grinning and was about to say something about a spoon throwing contest they can hold in the common rooms when Professor Bishop spoke up....
"Yes Ma'am!" he grinned cheekily. Heck he'd foray anything she tells him to to be honest.
Oh first question. He stared at the orb in her hands, and blurted out "Magnifying glass."Eh? "The better to see you with my dear.... errrr I mean Professor." he added quickly. And if one can see what he sees from the angle where he's sitting, what he said would make perfect sense.
Scrying? Crying? Salander didnt want to see crying. Nope. Nu-uh. No way Jose. The Slytherin lad tilted his head. What else is that thing good for other than to see things really REALLY well? He shrugged slowly, pinched his lips and let out a wild guess "Well you got a crystal ball that can act as a magnifying glass so maybe you can start a nice fire-- make smores, grill some lamb chops, get some drinks, you know--have a party!" What does that have anything to do with scrying? He has no idea.

Know that this was something Simon thought he might be able to reply. "How about the Moon?" Simon had no idea if you could see dead people in the sky but it was worth a guess right, Simon knew if it wasn't for the fact Professor Bishop taught the lesson he'd probably not come since he was no good at it.
All along, Renée had been alternately listening and trying not to be too amused by Salander’s responses, to her and to those who he was sharing a table with. Most of it reminded her about what she’d determined at her first lesson last term, and she was tempted to comment that he was at least talking this time. Granted, his ideas were highly amusing, but she managed to keep a relatively straight face. She still gave him a little smile as he’d tried to offer something regarding the current discussion, though. “Once again, I don’t think we’ll be setting any fires this term, although it’s nice to know that made an impact,” she said wryly, referring to her little mini-party last term when she’d had them study pyromancy. She was going to be making sure he stayed away from her crystal ball now, however.
She’d turned to Janice as the little Hufflepuff suggested tea cups as a method, and gave her a soft smile. “I can’t say I’ve heard of tea cups, or tasseomancy, as a form of scrying, but that could be something to look into,” she replied gently, before realizing Simon had once again decided to join in with his own brand of amusing suggestions. Oddly enough, though, the Hufflepuff boy had made just as likely a suggestion as Janice had, so maybe he was learning. “Hmm. I can’t say it would be a common form, but using the moon as a method of scrying could very well be another possibility,” she said slowly. “Insofar as most of the methods involve interpreting images you might see in the surface.” Reading craters and the like. It was an interesting idea. But first things first, and she needed to get the lesson moving.
“Okay everyone, I think I’ll let you guys discuss things a bit on your own before we move things along to the activity I have planned,” she continued, giving the class another smile before explaining her idea. “Why don’t you choose something, one of the methods we’ve already suggested or something else entirely that you think could be considered scrying, and discuss how you think it’s actually useful or not. Whether, for example, you think it’s in fact possible for someone to think they see images that can predict things in a mirror. Work in your groups, come up with an argument either for or against and I’ll take a look after a little while. We can discuss your ideas again before moving along.” It could be dangerous, but she knew she could control them. And keep the possible pyromaniacs away from her crystal ball and lighting the curtains on fire or something.
ooc: I have work tomorrow, but I’ll be back after I get home again to check on you guys, continue things. So basically, you can have a character in your groups write the ideas down as you discuss them, or at least somehow keep track and we can have a little debate after I’m done with work again. I’ll try to continue things after a day, but at the latest I’ll move the lesson along after Weds. night when I’ll have time again. Try not to get too crazy, though, and I will definitely try to check in as often as I can. And this is not the official practical activity for the lesson. Just another fun way of having discussion. Points for participation are up for grabs though.

Kurumi leaned back in her chair. Did she think that Scrying was useful? Not all that much, especially with someone like her who had no SEEing abilities was doing it. With her, it was just all speculation and guesswork.
Looking to her right at Selina, she figured that perhaps it would be best to move conversation away from all this being able to predict the future and towards something a bit, well, more scientific and not make her friend more uncomfortable which, Kurumi could tell, she already was.
"In all honesty," Kurumi said entwining her fingers and setting her hands on the table. "I think people will want to see things in liquids and 'predict the future' even if they don't have the gift to do so. If someone wants something enough, they will see it. Doesn't mean that I think scrying is efficient or not in terms of predicting the future, just means that I think that if you handed me a cup of water and asked me what I saw, after looking long enough I am sure I would see something." She shrugged her shoulders. "I think of it kind of like those ink spot tablets that some doctors use to get into your subconscious."

Then Penny saw another girl who shared her dorm - she seemed to be on her own.."Hey Niss, do you wanna join Becca, Me and Rose..4 heads are better than 3..."
Then getting out a clean sheet of parchment...."ok girls Ideas !!!"...

"When I've thought about 'Scrying', I imagined it would involve a map, a crystal and maybe something of the person your looking for ?!?"
Rose was a little excited about the idea of Scrying...."When I think of Scrying, I think mostly about finding things or people...So your idea Penny, of using a belonging of the person or thing is good..."
Then she was lost in thought for a few minutes..."I think that if it's the future that your trying to see, then I think would use a bowl of liquid..probably water - but i'm not sure what spell you would use for that!"...
Then looking at the girl on Penny's left hand side saying.."What do you think?"
"I think of it kind of like those ink spot tablets that some doctors use to get into your subconscious."

ooc: I have work tomorrow, but I’ll be back after I get home again to check on you guys, continue things.
Professor Bishop was really into the topic of the future today. This whole conversation was slowly making Selina want to puke. She was getting paler by the minute but held down her panic. Part of her wanted to conquer this thing. If she was, for even a moment, being weak in the class that could educate her on her curse then she would do what was necessary to rid herself of the fear. Besides Bishop could not change her lesson plans because of the problem of one student. It would be a hindrance to the enter class. Selina didn't want that. She just wanted to go and hide under a rock while everyone discussed how cool it was to see the future.
But then beside her Kurumi spoke up and completely avoided the topic of the future by chalking it up to science. Selina shot her friend the biggest smile and whispered, "Thanks."
In response to Kurumi, Selina agreed, "Yeah I agree with Kurumi. The human mind is a wizard at making people believe that they see something when they really don't. Like when people are dehydrated in the desert. They begin to see shadows of what they want to occur. It really isn't there. So if we all wish hard enough for something to be seen, we may just see it."
But Selina didn't want to see anything. Yet, she was burdened with the reality of the future.
Beth nodded at everything Professor Bishop said. Divination was definitely not her strong point. It wasn't like she was narrow minded, she expressed her imagination through her stories and songs, but future telling was sort of confusing really. She sighed, and rested her head on her left hand and turned to see who was sitting beside her.
Slipping the deck of Tarot cards into her pocket for safekeeping, Renée looped around her table to stand in front of it as she sent the entire class another smile. “Okay, I think there’re enough of us here to start,” she began, waiting for the little conversations to die down as people started trying to focus. That would hopefully not take long, as she turned and picked up the crystal ball off the table behind her carefully before returning her attention to the class to hold it up so they could all see it better. “What is the first thing that comes to mind when you see this?,” she asked, before grinning a little as she looked at the glass herself. “I’m not going to bother asking if you even know what this is, but if that factors into your thoughts, I don’t mind.” She just had to hope the ideas weren’t too crazy, because she didn’t want to get distracted and drop the crystal ball. She didn’t have half as many of those as she did her Tarot cards, so replacements wouldn’t be as available.
Ohhhh the professor was holding up a crystal ball? How cool was that, would they work with them this term?Divination may was a subject that peple laughed about but Fee enjoyed it.It wasnt as bad as some people made it. In fact it was rather fun to do.Mhhh what was the first thing that came into her mind when she saw a crystal ball?!"The first thing that comes to my mind is a mentalist that tells you whats going to happen in your future. You have to walk into a tent and sit down, most of the time its very oriental.,the girl sad smiling a little. When she was little her mum had taken her to one of those ladies.Had been kind of fun.Hehe.

With what else than a crystal ball coould you be scyring?Tipping her finger against her chin the blonde thoiught about the question of the Professor."What about tarot cards or reading in peoples hands, professor?",the girl said raising her hand. She didnt know much about hand reading but it had just popped up in her head.

Mhhhh what method was useful?Maybe the crystal ball method?Actually it sounded the best to Fee so she would go for it."I am for the crystal ball scyring method",she said,"who esle?"Scrying with a crystal ball just seemed to be the most real version to do it.Mhh was it possible for someone to believe he or she could see things that happend or will happen?!"I think if you believe in something everything is possible.",the girl nodded.

Uhh not teams again. Helena didn't like working this way.
But anyway, whether she liked or not, she had to work with someone, eventually. And then she also heard a Slytherin girl, saying something about the crystal ball method, and Helena kind of agreed with her, so she approached the girl and smiled. "Hi," she said, a bit nervously, "can I join you?"

Then lost in thought again (she did this on a regular occurrence).. added "Would horoscope charts help with scrying?.... I mean as a means of Seeing into the future?"

"About crystal balls?" The girl asked, a little bit confused. Well... besides the fact that they were shiny and Helena loved shiny things, "I guess we can see the most clear images in them. And mirrors." But Helena found mirrors a bit creepy, when it came to Divination. "I mean... imagine seeing some images" of the future? "in... the reflexion of a crystal." Or something like that. Hopefully, she'll understand what Helena's point was.

Who wants to write everything down?" William asked the girls. William raised his hand. "You can use a mieeor for better reflection in scrying." William esplained to the professor.
Well the young Puff looked to be quite happy with where he was at, and Salander nodded good naturedly, leaning back in his seat and catching the sight of Sierra not too far away, looking to be quite the opposite of her twin. Eh? Does she need some happy candy? Then he spotted Josh take a seat next to her and grinned, well at least there'll be someone that would try to wipe the grumpiness off her face-- to replace it with what can be anybody's guess.
Tayla recognized Salander from Potions. She couldn't help but chuckle a little at his answer.
SPOILER!!: Josh

*sigh*
After the deep sigh he let out, the Gryffindor boy looked around and his dark brown gaze stopped on another, younger she-snake: Sierra Greingoth the Poisonous Princess herself. Bahahahaha. Apparently he was wrong, he had not been sitting alone. So inching his way towards the Slytherin, he settled himself down right next to her, leaned to the seat next to him and placed his lower legs with his feet on the girl's lap getting into a comfortable position. ''That's nice thanks''
Aha!
There was Bishop! Tell us what awesome stuff you had for this class woman! Like do it now! Hehehehehhee. No need to be rude of course. He was just mind joking. And mind joking was those jokes he had in mind which had not been voiced out yet. Learned something new? Yea, you definitely had.
Hehe...
Watching the woman carefully, his eyes got fixed on the crystall ball which was known to be used for seeing stuff to get info about one's info. But the professor did not ask that, did she? Nope. She had asked what was the first thing that came to his mind. And what was that? ''A huge pearl that i would like to present my beloved Evelyn!'' he uttered rather loudly with a huge smirk on his face.
Tayla turned as she saw Josh enter the room and take a seat. She couldn't see if his hands were back or not because they were covered by the tables between them. Tayla smiled a little as Josh gave his answer about the crystal ball. Always loud that guy...and crazy about Evelyn.

Flipping the top card from her deck over idly, just to appease her curiosity, Renée glanced at it quickly before returning her attention to the classroom as it continued filling up. Interest was always good, and useful. "Good day to you as well, Heather," she responded as the Gryffindor girl as she'd looked for a seat. She'd picked up on a little bit of frustration, but wasn't about to question it. Concern was something she always felt, but the girl was getting herself past the feeling anyhow and preparing for the lesson. Therefore, she could go back to gathering her own thoughts, preparing herself for the lesson.
Her eyes widened as Renée watched the next student stumble his way into the classroom, but as he managed to regain his balance, she schooled her face into a less concerned expression. Although it was still there as he tried to catch his breath, and she shook her head slightly in response to his question before Heather answered it for her. “No, it hasn’t quite started yet, and please do,” she did reply, before giving him a gentle smile. “Make yourself comfortable, Daichi, and I’ll start the lesson soon.” He seemed to be catching his breath finally, at least. People didn’t need to rush to her lesson, as far as she was concerned.
The next arrival certainly didn’t seem to have been rushing, nor really concerned as to what they might be learning. One of those was a good thing, as there truly was no need to rush, but the other was troublesome. Renée gave the girl a friendly smile, tinged by the tiniest bit of concern, though. “Hello K-Lee,” she replied, having noted the Slytherin’s physical appearance. That was never good, and she silently tried to ask her if she was okay, with a look. She didn’t want to embarrass her by actually pointing anything out, if K-Lee was trying to keep things to herself. That didn’t stop her from hoping she was alright.
An amused smile crept onto Renée’s face as she saw the next student slide inside the door like he was in a Muggle movie or something. That was always an interesting entrance, but as she watched, he had to struggle to regain his balance. There was always a downside to dramatic arrivals, as she knew. “Hello, Mr. Keaton,” she replied once he had managed to gather himself together. “Why don’t you find yourself a seat and we’ll get things started soon,” she suggested. Preferably not in some possibly dangerous way, even though those were still rather amusing. They weren’t for the classroom, though.
It seemed not everyone was concerned about being late, or making an entrance, and Renée smiled at the little first year as she walked into the classroom. There was definitely excitement there, but it was controlled somehow. Impressive. “Hello Miss Marchbanks,” she replied, watching as the girl made her way to a seat. Politeness was always a good starting point, especially until she could definitively learn everyone’s name. She had a feeling that wouldn’t be difficult with this Gryffindor, as she caught the interest in the crystal ball. Revealing its purpose was going to be interesting, but she understood why it had gotten the attention.
Renée nodded to herself as yet another Gryffindor first year trailed into the classroom. The faintest curiosity about if the first year interest was skewed toward that house flickered through her mind, but she didn’t betray her thoughts one bit as she smiled at the girl. She’d done her homework, it seemed, at least when it came to learning the professors’ names. “Hello Miss Adler,” she replied, idly wondering if this girl was related to the other enthusiastic Gryffindor she knew. That was neither here nor there, though, and she glanced around the room again to see how many seats were left open by now. Still quite a few, so she’d wait a bit longer to start.
Another nervous student had apparently decided to enter, and Renée had to wonder if it was the subject or if the Aparecium parchment’s messages from last term were still in people’s minds. That had been amusing to her, but there was always the possibility it could have influenced people. She smiled at the new Hufflepuff Quidditch Captain, though. “Hello, Isobel,” she replied. “Just relax for a little bit and I’ll get things moving soon.” Probably once some more of the seats had been filled, even if that wasn’t really important. She wasn’t about to make anyone feel left out, by starting the lesson too soon.
”Hello Renesmee,” Renée replied with a smile, as the Hufflepuff made her way into the classroom. “I’m doing quite well.” It was curious, how certain students seemed to feel the need to ask, but she wasn’t about to dismiss the question unanswered. Not when essentially, she was perfectly fine. It was just not exactly related to the lesson at hand, so it threw her a little. As did the fact it seemed like the empty seats were starting to get harder to find, which made her think about getting her wand ready to summon some more chairs. It wasn’t quite necessary yet, though, as she watched the girl find a seat with Treyen and Mia.
It seemed Selina had understood her unsaid message, which made Renée relax a bit more as the Gryffindor gave her another smile. She worried about the redhead, especially knowing she could only help so much before things were beyond her knowledge. “You’re welcome, and I appreciate the compliment,” she replied with a smile of her own. Selina had a difficult situation to handle, but she had a feeling the girl would end up surprising everyone. If she could get past her own prejudices against what she was and tell herself it wasn’t a curse. Abilities were always only what they were seen as.
Turning back to the door, Renée widened her eyes again in concern as another girl ran in, out of breath. Running late was one thing, but she didn’t want anyone to end up in the hospital wing just from trying to make it to class on time. “Good day, Charlie,” she replied, managing to smile at the Ravenclaw as she made sure nobody was going to pass out. Luckily, everything seemed okay for now, even if there was a bit of tension in the room as the girl worked her way through the tables. Charlie had found a seat, so she could concentrate on everyone else for now.
That seemed to be good timing, as Renée turned to look at the door as yet another girl came racing in. “Hello, Amy,” she replied calmly, acknowledging the apology and giving the Hufflepuff a smile as the girl fell into a seat. “Not quite late yet, but that was cutting it close. Apparently there was even more curiosity than she’d expected there, and she raised an eyebrow questioningly as the repeated questioning and apologetic aspect of the girl’s words. “It’s okay,” she assured her. “Class will be starting in a few moments.” Hopefully she could gather herself together before then.
Renée grinned slightly at the curious smile on the Slytherin boy’s face as Alex had entered, and the amusement didn’t fade as it had flickered into a full-on grin towards herself. “Good day to yourself as well, Alex,” she replied with another smile. It seemed curiosity had made way for a bit of a challenge, but she knew what she planned should be up for that. It definitely had mysterious aspects to it, which should entertain people and make them think. Of course, most of the topics she could think of would likely be the same way, but for now she needed to settle things down and get the lesson started.
She didn’t have half as many of those as she did her Tarot cards, so replacements wouldn’t be as available.
ooc: Okay. Class has started, so anyone who hasn’t “entered” yet should just pretend they’ve been here all along. Get as creative as you like with answers, but as usual, try to limit yourself to only one or two ideas so everyone can try to participate. And no copying from Google/Wikipedia/etc., as usual. Use your own words, as I will know if you don’t.

In their own ways, they were always the ones who could come up with something interesting. “I’m sure she would enjoy that, Josh,” she said dryly, giving him a wry smile as she glanced at the Slytherin to see if she’d been paying attention. At least they hadn’t gone back to the discussion about fire symbology. It seemed Evelyn had her own ideas about the topic at hand, however, and that might have saved her Gryffindor from too much glares and such. That remained to be seen, though. “It could very well have been a bubble, Evelyn. Good suggestion, especially as it could be said there’s a bit of an ephemeral quality to both,” she said to the girl instead. Still waiting to see if there was going to be a reaction to Josh’s antics.

So far so good, and Renée glanced at the rest of the students, still balancing the crystal ball in her hands, as they continued offering suggestions. The few who had offered a cynical point of view made another wry smile creep onto her face, even though they had a point. “Interesting outlook, you two. No less true, considering the fact that crystal balls are quite often present in the imagery loved by Muggle fortune tellers and the like, whether or not they in fact do have divinatory abilities. It can be hard to really say if they in fact do see anything or not,” she began, before Mia’s hand had raised as well to offer another amusing opinion on the matter. “Seems you might have first-hand experience in that matter, Mia. Once again, that is sadly always possible, the use of magic to deceive people.” She couldn’t help but wonder what exactly did happen when a stranger would arrive.
Text Cut: past, future, prophecy
They needed to get back on the topic of actual divination, though, so Renée refrained from asking for even more elaboration on Mia’s story. Luckily, it seemed many people were more apt to just go with the idea of crystal balls as conduits for the future, and she smiled at all the students who had said something to that effect. The little history lesson brought a bit of a grin to her face as well. “Yes, most commonly crystal balls are supposed to be said to give the diviner images of the future, although in fact if the right questions are asked images of just about anything could be seen,” she replied, acknowledging William’s suggestion that the past could be seen as well. “And in fact you are correct, Miss Marchbanks. Professor Trelawney allegedly did use crystal balls as weapons during the Battle of Hogwarts, but then I’d imagine if you studied that incident you would find that pretty much everything available was used in that fashion.”
She nodded again as Alex brought up the similarities between crystal balls and the prophecies stored in the Ministry, and gave him a smile as well. “Another valid point, although do you really believe that crystal balls have nothing real inside of them?,” she posited, before sending a little grin over at Kannalynne at her argument. “Uncertainty can, as it seems you have said, be attributed to any form of Divination, Miss Basthowe, not just with the use of crystal balls,” she agreed. “If one truly could know the future, it would mean that none of us have any real choices in life, and I don’t believe anyone would say that would be a good thing. And yes, Miss Malfoy, you are welcome to stop by my office any time if you’d like to discuss the Tarot,” she added, glancing at the blonde Ravenclaw with another little smile. “But let’s try and stay on topic here, alright?”
Well, it wasn’t quite staying on topic, but Jai’s suggestion brought another grin to Renée’s face. “An interesting conjecture, Mr. Pierce,” she replied in amusement, before deciding to ask something of him. “What in fact would you expect to see if you had looked in this?” It wasn’t really important to the discussion as a whole, but she imagined the curiosity had been put out there by his suggestion anyhow. It could very well start off another interesting and informative tangent, depending on the answer.
Hmm, another fascinating side-track, Renée thought as she heard Kurumi’s answer. “Another interesting fact,” she agreed with a smile, sensing that there had been something else in the Gryffindor’s mind not that long before that she supplanted by the scientific response. “I can’t say I know exactly what this particular crystal ball is made out of, but you very well might be right. This would have to be quite the old specimen if it was made out of beryl, however. Newer ones are made out of rock crystal, or quartz.” She might not have known exactly what made up this orb, but she still knew her history. As, it seemed, did Kurumi.
Another grin crept onto Renée’s face as Eino of the previous singing offered his response to the discussion, though. That was getting more to the actual point of the lesson, whether he knew it or not. “More accurately, crystal balls are used for crystallomancy,” she pointed out, “ although that in fact is a branch of scrying. I would imagine most serious Diviners wouldn’t use their crystal balls as paperweights, however. Not the ones they specifically use, as that could dim the orb’s power.” At least, that was her opinion. One didn’t usually use their wand for anything other than magical things, most of the time, and that should extend to other magical tools as well.
She turned and set the crystal ball in question back on her table, then returned her attention to the class in order to speak again. “Scrying, as so many of you have touched on,” whether or not they realized it, “is a method of using reflections, images, to gain insight into the past, present and future. of course, the reflections that one sees aren’t really there, but merely visions brought about through focus and reflected in the orb or whatever is used. Not only crystal balls can be used, in fact, for scrying. Does anyone want to suggest something else that could be used?” Eventually they would get to the actual activity she had planned, but touching on scrying was always in her plans. Everything was related when it came to Divination anyhow.
ooc: Moving things along . . . Same rules apply as usual. (and those who replied to the first question all get one point)

"How about the surface of lakes...any still body of water," Tayla suggested, mostly as a thought to herself.
SPOILER!!: Zara and Kurumi!!!

"Thank you," she politely replied with a smile. Zara nodded as Kyle introduced her cousin. But they've already met before. Hannah, the girl with tattoos. Eep. Hihi. Then Caroline and Simon. Zara nodded again as she smiled to each one of them.
"Oh, that's good," she smiled back to Hannah and nodded.
"Nice to meet you too," she replied. Then likewise, she also took out her parchment and ink and quills.
Zara smiled and nodded. How did she know Zara's name? Hmm. "Thank you, Professor. I'm sure I will," she grinned.
Zara simply listened as the others gave answers, seeing as she didn't get the chance to answer herself. So, she just listened and wrote down notes.
Zara raised her hand, "A mirror, perhaps?"
With this, Zara turned to face the rest of the people at her table and smiled. "Any ideas? I could probably write them down if you want."

"Hey, Zara!" Tayla greeted when she noticed Zara seated at the table next to hers. "Hi Kurumi!" she said again, seeing Kurumi near her as well. "I think...I think people often see what they want to see. Not really what the future will be," Tayla began in response to Kurumi's statement.
"I was thinking about lakes and other still bodies of water...even puddles. I don't think they'd cloud over or anything, like a crystal ball is supposed to do...but haven't people since...I dunno how long ago...well, they look at their images in bodies of water? For some hope or...advice...?"
Tayla furrowed her eyebrows. She wasn't sure what she meant exactly.
Penny laughed at her friend, glad that she was here....."Uhm, well the idea of the mascots is good..but it should be 'Badgers & Lions'...firstly cos B comes before L alphabetically, and secondly - this little group was my idea... "
But they were now getting off the point...."I've thought of another way to Scry...I think"
Unsure of her next suggestion, she decided to throw it out there anywhere "I think I remember reading somewhere that a person could use smoke as a means of scrying - not exactly sure how it works though"

1.....Scrying with a map & crystal == would only give position of something (not the future, past or present)
2.....Using Astrology == charting past & present movements of planets & moons 'could' give indication of future
3.....Using Horoscope charts == Seeing into the future using star signs & their meanings
4.....Smoke == Not sure how this works

Penny heard the girl call out for any free groups...."Sure, you welcome to join us over here" she said with a smile....
