The Headmaster has re-purposed this old classroom for an entirely different use. The room is larger than it should be; the fact that Tate reduced a wall into an adjoining room is obvious by the fact that it has two doors along the same long wall. Rather than leaving an empty office or reinventing the standard dueling area, the room now serves as a training facility for those with an interest in Defense and Defense related careers: Aurors, Hit Wizards, and the International Task Force (among others).

The two windows in the room face out over an inner courtyard and let in tree-filtered light throughout the day. Beside one such window, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves have been stuffed full of countless Defense texts. The titles range from ancient tomes in spidery indecipherable scripts to glossy hardcovers featuring some of the premiere Defensive authors of the day. The long table is conducive for transcribing notes from the various books, but there are also a few deep chairs pushed together for general reading or quiet conversation. There is a sign posted on the bookshelf.

Along the opposite wall, leading from the far door halfway to the window, Tate has set up various pieces of exercise equipment, intending for those interested in pursuing a Defensive career to develop themselves physically as well as mentally. A punching bag is suspended from the ceiling in the corner, sitting beside a stand of free weights and other odds and ends, mats and exercise balls and the like. Stretching along the remainder of the space to the window is an enormous climbing wall, complete with hand and foot holds all the way up to the ceiling. There are no ropes, but the floor is generously cushioned with a charm.

Between the two windows sit a series of padded dummies, perfect for any dueling practice needed for class or just to be used in the process of learning new spells. Drag one or two out and practice. Either of the windows onto the courtyard may be opened and, weather permitting, training can extend into this open space. Try not to kill and trees or squirrels in the process.

Kyle smiled over to Mia - she looked nice really. Taking her outstretched hand in hers she shook it. "Nice to meet you too!" She smiled. Enthusiastically yes, but that as just how she was. Bubbly, enthusiastic, overly kind...yeah she was a regular ball of sunshine.

"16? I did?" guess she did.

Yeah. A rest, that's all Heather needs right now. She closed her eyes and tried to relax. AH, the dizziness is almost gone now, yep, almost-

then she heard Zara shout in pain.

Out of worry, heather snapped her eyes open and immediately shot up, looking at Zara who was lying on the floor. "Zara! Are you all right? Did you hurt yourself?" she asked, but then fell back on the floor herself. Shooting up just like that wasn't a good idea while recovering from dizziness.

"Uh....j-just a sec, Zara, be, with you...in a sec...everything's spinning..."

And man, there were still a whole bunch of underclassmen trying to be acrobats. It was retarded and pointless in Jim's opinion.

Kurumi made her way into the training room wearing the same clothing she had done for when her and Eino had been running about the castle. Kurumi's thighs were still killing her from their first run, so she was glad when Eino specifically requested that they work on something else this time.

Kurumi had arrived a little earlier than she had expected to, and as she waited her eyes glanced around the room looking for something that may help them with whatever it was they would be doing. She then spotted funny looking dummy in the corner and she walked up to it.

Nervously, the poked it in the chest and it wobbled a bit, causing Kurumi to giggle. She then took the the dummy by both its, erm, stubs that were arms and began twirling around the room with it.

Simon had decided to head to the defense training room to look for some books through the shelves found there. However as he stepped inside he noticed a fair bit of students working on stuff from the supposed assignment from Lord Borr to actual spell work and the captain simply stood back for a bit watching everything. He soon found himself walking the perimeter trying to be descrete and not wanting attention at the moment until he finally came to a group where he happened to overhear what was being said about learning defense on their own if there werent to have a proper professor.

Just what I had been thinking....he mused to himself with a smile. He might just have found another of like mind and walked closer to see about talking about it.

"I think I can save you a step there seeing as I kinda already went to Tate about that very thing at the start of term," he spoke coming up beside the Ravenclaw speaking to Kyle and finally making his presence known.

He checked the time, reminded himself of what day it was, then pulled out the list from his pocket and there it was. They were supposed to be practicing... Then why was she? "Are we not practicing here today?" He interrupted as he approached her. "It seems you moved unto ballroom dancing, but I ought to tell you I am not quite prepared for that." She was dancing after all, and he really needed his fancy shoes to ballroom. Nope, there was no way it would happen without the fancy shoes. He was still wearing his trainer sweats and tshirt and that was no attire to ballroom dance. He crossed his arms and waited for an explanation.

Kurumi let go of the dummy who then went bouncing across the floor like a rubber ball until it hit the wall and came bouncing back towards them.

"And it looks like it can handle bouncing too. We are all set."

"Very well..." Eino said, unconvinced, and squinting his eyes. Well, at least he was where he was supposed to be on the day he was supposed to be there. Yes, that was a good start. "Okay..." He began looking around at the room before proceeding "should we practice karate first?" Eino wasn't very confident since he had never seen anyone doing karate but he did get a chance to do some research. To his surprise, it was some sort of fighting style when all this time he thought it was another type of dance. He was entirely clueless as to what to do other than to kick and punch the dummy? Good thing they had a dummy. "Ladies first." A bunch of horse doodoo that's what that was. He took a step back, smiled nervously, and waited for Kurumi to do something to the dummy.

Jim turned around and raised his eyebrows, recognizing the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain from the game the previous term when he'd played seeker and narrowly beat out the Gryffindor seeker for a win.

"Yeah? Good to know I'm not the only one who doesn't want to waste my time prancing around and doing what a narcissistic nut job thinks is good enough for my education." He offered a friendly grin and his hand to shake.

"I'm Jimmy. You're Simon, right?"

Finding herself able to breath now that Eino had seemingly forgotten the whole ballroom dancing bit for the moment, Kurumi looked back and forth between Eino and the dummy.

She really didn't know the first thing about it besides that he literally meant empty hand. "Wait...people in karate always had belts..." she said as a light bulb went on in her head. "Well, not a real leather belt, but more like a piece of colored cloth that they tied around their waist." She looked around and frowned when she saw no such useful piece of fabric. "I suppose we could use our house scarves?"

He got down on his right knee and unlaced his shoe, then switched knees and unlaced the right shoe, tied them together, then tied them around his waist. "Ta-da!" He said tossing his hands in the air. Now his shoes were loose, though, but he would manage. "I can already feel it!" He said reaching his toes with the tip of his fingers. Yeah, magical ~~belt~~ shoelaces did the trick. "I am ready to karate!" he said confidently then remember he didn't know how to. "But you first."

Kurumi raised an eyebrow at Eino's...shoelace karate belt. She supposed it was the thought that mattered seeing as neither of them really knew anything about karate. At least, that was the impression she got from Eino insisting that she be the one to start.

Grabbing her Gryffindor scarf and tying it around her waist, making a pretty bow in the front and then turning it around to that it rested in the dip of her back, Kurumi looked at the dummy and narrowed her violet eyes at it. She then clenched her hand into small fists and took a small step back on her left foot and stood a bit on her toes. Jumping up and down a few times, she lunged forwards had hit the dummy right were his flat nose should be, knocking it over backwards.

However, it came shooting back up like a jack-in-the-box. Kurumi managed a sideways roll to avoid it, but she sure hoped that Eino had been on his toes.

"Splendid!" Eino congratulated Kurumi on her first successful hit and dodge with applause. But... that was karate? Just hitting a dummy? If that was all that there was to karate, then Eino would have no problem doing it. Although, it would probably be difficult to do karate on someone else. The dummy was idle it had to take the punch, it really couldn't avoid it. "I've got an idea!" He jumped and he shouted. Then, he reached for his sock where here was keeping his wand, in case it accidentally jumped out of his pocket while he was jogging, and pulled it out. "I will make the dummy move, or more specifically, dodge your attacks." Now if he could only remember the incantation to that spell. After several seconds trying to remember it he snapped his finger, pointed his wand at the dummy and said "Excito Animans!" and as he did he concentrated on the actions that the dummy would take. Then, the dummy began swinging from side to side, making it harder to hit it. "Try now!"

Was Eino insane? Well, Kurumi supposed that that was a negotiable concept considering he had honestly believe that his pet cactus could fly and deliver letters like an owl. There were so many parts of that thought that pointed towards the direction of insanity.

Kurumi glanced back and forth between the swaying dummy and Eino, who looked especially pleased with himself again. Wasn't HE supposed to do some training as well? Sighing, Kurumi focused on the dummy and it's swaying...

....left....right...left....right...

When Kurumi thought she had the pattern and rhythm down, she returned to her punching position but, instead of punching, and threw her right leg into a roundhouse kick targeted for the dummy's stubby ~~and seriously lacking~~ neck.

Ella bit her lip. 'Are you okay Zara?' She really didn't understand why everybody was finding the forward rolls so difficult..
Shaking her head she completed her 50th roll. She had been rolling round and round Zara and Heather for the past 15 minutes. She was quite dizzy...

Eino jumped in celebration at Kurumi's successful kick. The dummy stopped moving when Eino's concentration ceased and then fell on the floor. He knew that old and dusty spell book would come in handy some day. He had a lot of time to read it while he was home armless for half of his second year, and all that studying finally paid off. Even though Lord Borr wasn't holding classes and teaching them anything knew, he was glad he could have learned something by himself. "My turn!" He shouted tucking his wand back in his sock, nearly falling a couple times but his magic belt of balance kept him standing. He picked up the fallen dummy and put it back on his feet and stood steady in front of it. "Just repeat what I said and concentrate on what you want it to do really hard!" He instructed her then waited for some karate action!

C-Can i sing to you in there?" she asked, feeling a little shy to sing in the training room because there were other people.

Shaking her head she completed her 50th roll. She had been rolling round and round Zara and Heather for the past 15 minutes. She was quite dizzy...

Her arms supported her, as they touched the floor, palm flat on the ground.

Zara, who was now in a some-what sitting position, nodded. It was a little early to go rest. "Yeah, maybe next time," she smiled and added, "Sure, I would love to hear you sing!" Zara grinned, and tried sitting up straight. It took a bit of effort, but well, now she was sitting up straight. All she had to do now was stand up.

Umph. She bended her knees to get a head start, and tried pushing herself up to stand. She looked at Heather with a sheepish smile, and said, "Could you help me up?"

Heather resisted the urge to chuckle in order to help her friend up. She took Zara's hand and pulled the girl up; with a little difficulty, but she were able to help Zara up now. "So, shall we go?" she asked as Zara brushed off some dust off of her.

Zara struggled a bit as Heather helped her up. And finally, she was standing. Her back hurt a little, but Zara can take it. Maybe.

Just repeat what Eino had said. No problem...if she had actually remembered what he has said that is. At first, she swore she had heard Eino say Arania Exumai, but seeing as there were no spiders around that didn't seem to make much sense. "O-O-Okay," she chirped reaching into her short's pocket for her wand holster and removing her wand. She looked at the dummy and pointed her wand at it. She sure hoped she had the spell right, because she really hadn't been paying too much attention when the Ravenclaw had performed it. "ExSHIto AniMEns!" she commanded flicking her wand towards the dummy. It sprung to life, but it was NOT doing what she was thinking it out to. She imagined it spinning around on its stubby leg like a ballerina. What is was actually doing was flailing its arms around and charging right at her friend.

Rosemary straightened herself before she took a small run forwards and then launched into 10 consecutive rolls, one after the other without becoming dizzy before she repeated the process again in the opposite direction.

Malevolant as it was, it just might be the thing that made her spells work the glue to her otherwise non-ruthless spells sticking.

Kyle glanced over from Simon to Jim - hmm, this was quite interesting. Both had the same idea - maybe they could lead the little 'lesson' together? She pondered for a minute.

"Nice to know that we don't have to ask Tate - since you already did - I think this'll be interesting...fun even," she smiled sheepishly.

Picking up her wand she twirled it for a moment there wondering what she was going to do about it. How she was going to you know make things more ruthless she already had one idea down.

1. Think About Hannah's little escapade of pretty much telling Simon I might like him in other words - because now everytime I think of her I get kind of upset...but also very awkward...no the awkward won't make it work. Tapping her foot as she thought, her new thought popped into her head.

"How am I supposed to be more ruthless?" She asked no one imparticular, as she furrowed her brows and tried to think of ruthless and how it be ruthless.
