Still amazed at the sight of the animal in front of her, Ariadne thought about the Professor's questions. She did like cute animals, like kittens and puppies, but magical creatures? Not so much. So she hesitantly said : 'I would like to know more about magical creatures without needing to...umm...make too much contact with them.' That sounded silly, but it was at least her sincere expectation of a CoMC class.

Now to the next part of the question. 'Respect is treating others as you yourself would like to be treated. It implies tolerance and understanding.' The girl was still holding the parchment with her name and year in her lap.

It was better that way for now, MacFusty thought; Rosamund was very close to throwing a fit just like the one she'd thrown earlier when he announced the reason why she'd come from so far away, and it had taken him almost two hours to calm her down.

It had almost cost him a finger, too, but that was neither here nor there. "For those who asked, I am perfectly well, thank you." And he could seen that most of them were, too, if not a tad shaken by Rosie's presence. "Now, I'd like to---" But the rest of his sentence was lost by a loud yell that quickly reminded him of France, and as a result, Beauxbatons.

"Knox Macnair." Lachlan said, his tone very nearly flat. He did manage to sound somewhat polite, though, as he regarded his old student with a stern look.

Never following instructions. Always the excitable one.

How had he gotten sorted into Slytherin? "Control yourself, Mister MacNair, please." That wasn't really a suggestion. MacFusty opened his mouth to continue, but was, once again, interrupted. This time by Rosie.

Rosamund, who'd quit ignoring the humans and gone back to cooly regarded each and every one of them, raised one of her eyebrows at the little red-head. "I do, but I can see that you do not." She wagged her tail, and her mouth twitched at the corners at the boy MacFurry had referred to... as.... what was it again?

Unimportant. "Should we agree to disagree, perhaps? Or shall we continue to talk until we find a point in which we agree, at last?"

Lady Rosie tried to hide her own pleasure of having made that comment rhyme. She tried. She really did.

She failed at it, too.

"No, you will not," Lachlan said firmly, but with a small smile for both Rosie and Ellie. He had, after all, a class to continue and did not need for Rosamund to go on tangents, in which everything rhymed, but nothing made much sense.

It'd already happened, before the students arrived. "As I was saying." He cleared his throat. "I'm Lachlan MacFusty, your new Care of Magical Creatures Professor." Obviously. "And I want you all to tell me what you expect from this subject this year, and what are your thoughts about the word Respect."

Rosemary raised a hand, "I expect to learn as much as I am able about all the many creatures that roam across the world. And my thoughts of respect are that you would teat others as you would wish to be... However, our seniors and all creatures have demand for greater amounts of respect."

GlassXRose 05-14-2011 08:52 PM

As Kannalynne wrote down her name and year on a piece of parchment, and still contemplating the sphinx, she looked up to the Professor.

"Respect is not merely a word, sir, it must be taken to heart. Reverence is a state of mind, not only an indication that one posesses manners. Respect must be earned, and is therefore suppossed to be valued." Bam. She was such a word ninja.

As Kana smiled to herself, she finished writing with a bit of a flourish, then looked back up as other students answered as well.

Kimalia had already chosen a safe distance from the creature that had many spells containing it. It's so huge.. Kimalia was a little worried despite it's beautiful look. She chose to smile and focus on the professor. Hearing the professor's first question she almost jumped out of her seat making her name tag fall from her robe clip.

Ahem. "Hi, there. And your name is...?"

Rosie remained silent, but may have done some sort of huffing sound, a sign of clear annoyance.

Cheeky humans. She did not like to be ignored.

Oh.

"Sorry, sir. I'm Jamie Keaton from Slytherin house." The Jamie Keaton. Yes, it seemed that the boy was distracted by the killer animal in his presence. APOLOGIES. The huffing sound that the animal made caused a small gasp to leave his lips and a sudden step back. Why was he such a wimp??!

What did he expect? He expected not to be mauled to death.

"I expect to learn about magical creatures, I guess. Because I have absolutely no idea what that is." He pointed to the killer looking cat. That was him all over. Couldn't tell the difference between a crup and a dog, or a cat and a kneazle. Respect over all? Hmmm.... "Respect is being nice to people and not talking over them when they are talking. Also not to.. point." Like he had JUST pointed to that animal.

Whoops. The boy looked down.

Idiot. :head:

Besides, he was far too busy to stare at the sphinx-thingy.

Animals. Lachlan smiled, though he didn't have to look at Rosie to know that she found nothing funny about the word 'animals.' "Thank you, Alex."

Buuut she had to stop eventually, because professor MacFusty had spoken. What did she expect? That was a simple question, so she raised her hand. "Maybe hippogriffs?" The girl suggested, slightly shrugging. "But a sphinx is just... amazing." MORE than amazing. "As for the respect, do you mean respect for the magical creatures? Because everyone should show them that." Yup.

Hippogriffs. Maybe. Lachlan would keep that in mind for now, but it all depended on how they handled and dealt with Rosamund. Though, now that he thought about it, he should have held a lesson about a creature like Hippogriffs before bringing Rosie over.

Oops. He flicked his wand towards the parchment on Helena's lap, and pinned it to her robes. "Indeed. Magical Creatures deserve the same amount of respect as anyone else."

"Hi Professor," she said quietly as she realised that a Sphinx was staring at her. It was beautiful and Charlie anted to touch it but she couldn't and sat down next to Luna and wrote on her parchment.
Charlie raised her hand, "I think respect means to treat someone like your...equal." she said, her eyes kept twitching over to the Sphinx. She didn't think it was her equal. More like her superior. Charlie gulped.

Lachlan raised his eyebrows at the student who arrived late. "Glad that you could join us, Miss..." Pinning the parchment slash name tag to her robes, he added, "...Rimsworth. Unfortunately, I will have to deduct two points from Ravenclaw for your tardiness." Pity, really. Lachlan wasn't the sort who took points easily, but if he let this one slide, next thing he knew some students would not even bother to show up.

Lachlan MacFusty! He'd taught at Beauxbatons for a couple of his first terms.. well, now he was DEFINITELY get to nuzzle the sphinx. Y'know, with him and the Professor being old buddies and such.

A tad delusional? Perhaps.

"Respect?" The fifth year said, tilting his head to one side? What was that all about? He wanted to play fetch with the sphinx. And cuddle it. And and and... what did respect have to do with Care of Magical Creatures? HUH?

"There's a super duper old muggle song called Respect," Knox said, waving his hand in the air. "It's pretty good, Sir." Again, what did that have to do with Care of Magical Creatures?

"What?" The world had slipped from his mouth before he could help himself, and Lachlan stared at Knox MacNair before clearing his throat and cough in order to avoid a snort to come out of him.

A song. A muggle song.

Some things would never change. "Are you familiar with the song, Mister MacNair? Would you say you're familiar enough with it to serenade us for a moment?"

But, alas, the teacher stopped them. The smile he gave made it okay, though.

All attention was on the professor, then. MacFusty. "..." Ellie was going to say something about the Hebridean Black dragons, but opted not to. Maybe he wasn't part of those MacFusty's. Maybe he had low self esteem of being overshadowed by the uber cool MacFusty's his whole life, and would rather not have someone bring up the awesomeness of his name when it was unrelated to him. Yet, MacFusty wasn't a very common name, was it?

Expect? Well, she'd like another trip. And Stryker hinted at one last term, but maybe that was before he knew Saylen had left, as well. Honestly, Care of Magical Creatures was one of the few classes she expected anything from. No snacks, like in History of Magic, no flying like in Flying, no headaches like in Arithmancy. Maybe, "To learn about amazing animals." Such as a Sphinx. Maybe even a dragon? If he did end up being one of those MacFusty's, that is.

As for respect, "That has to be earned." Saylen hadn't understood that. Nor did Bishop.

Lachlan was not unaware of the slight curious look on the girl's face, when he said his name. But he pretended otherwise, and instead nodded along to her own definition of respect. "That is correct, Ellie. Respect isn't a gift. It is a reward."

The amount of what looked like first years was big enough to plant a very tiny seed of doubt about the entire topic they'd be discussing. But then, the younger students seemed to be very familiar with the word RESPECT so far, so perhaps they were ready for it.

After all, if they didn't respect Rosie, there was no way she'd play along. "You are not wrong, Ariella. Thank you."

That was what they're supposed to learn in this class correct? She knew a certain someone wouldn't be too pleased if all they were going to do was sit around read out of a textbook. But seeing as there was a sphinx sitting right there, that probably wouldn't be the case.

"And respect is something that one should...pretty much give to everyone, or everything, regardless of what you may think. It'd be rude not to." And...she was rude a lot of the time apparently, but that was beside the point.

What was her name again? Something about flowers... "Yes, correct." She still looked completely unimpressed, and even bordered the line of looking openly bored, but at least he was participating. "It would not only be rude, but also rather unwise." Especially when it came to Rosie. "Thank you for sharing, Evelyn."

Kita bit her lip. What did she want? Well, what she really wanted was some food but that's not exactly answering the Professor's question. Not really, anyways. Hm...

She raised her hand. "Um... I expect to learn about interesting creatures," That won't try to eat me alive! Not exactly a hard request now is it? But that is all she expected from Care of Magical Creatures. To learn about interesting creatures.

Um... Respect? Now that was an interesting question! What did Respect mean to her? "Respect is..." Overrated? No, no, no, you can't say that! "when you respect someone!" Good one Kita(!) "Like, when you acknowledge their abilities and... you're not rude basically." She shrugged. That had to be good enough right?

Lachlan gave the Hufflepuff and the girl he was talking to a pointed look.

"Yes, yes. Being rude is bad." And unnecessary.

Unless you had Jarvey who happened to be called Stanley and just rejected anything you said.

As a way to control herself, the girl just PICTURED her and this Rosie... BEST FRIENDS, and then they would run through the meadows hand by (paw?), with cheesy music playing in the background, and then they would both feast on lemon drops and marshmallows with a late night campfire, side by side.

What a scene indeed.

A tempting one too.

The professor pinned her parchment to her robes and she was quite confused of why he'd done that, but more interested to see what would happen. Would the lady-lion do a special trick on them? EEE!

Lola tried her best to avoid eye contact with the sphinx anymore because just ONE MORE LOOK AT ROOOSIE, and she would seriously replay that scene she'd just thought of, in reality.

Respect? Lola knew respect!

The girl raised her hand. "What I expect from this year, professor? I expect lots and LOTS of fluffiness, professor," she said that in a very serious and professional way, "Respect? Well I think respect is all about the looooooove that we ALL must share within one another, because you know--WITHOUT RE--" She was almost preaching it in a very loud tone, FORGETTING ABOUT ROSIE'S SENSITIVE EARS, "Without respect, we would all die. Because without respect--where would the love be? And without love--" dramatic pause, and she decided to quote off Shakespeare, "But you know... 'the course of true love never did run smooth...'"

Was she getting off topic? Because love always did intrigue the girl. But they were not talking about love--they were talking about respect.

"Respect is ... impoooortant."

But the fourteen-year old girl was dazed, suddenly very dramatic and thinking about loooove.

....?

Lachlan MacFusty stared at the Slytherin girl. There was some... odd expression on her face, and she was going on about love...?

What....?

"It sure is, Lola."

Strange kid. Should he send her to Lily? Maybe Jones was sick...? "Thank for participating."

As long as the creature eats no one, then it was all good, no?

The fifth year wrote what it needed to be written on his parchment, and then eyed it once more.

Yeah, he'd decided to strike-through one part he'd written.

Oh, but MacFuzzy was talking! That's why he let his eyes wander off from the parchment to the man in question and raised his hand, "No creatures to be harmed or appearing to be harmed, that's what I expect," eyes on YOU, MacFuzzy, and the awesome Sphinx next to him.

Also, "Respect goes both ways," so, respect me and I'll respect you. Right? He'd learned that with Saylen.

Because he was already familiar with the Hufflepuff prefect, Lachlan didn't bother to pin his name to his robes. One of his eyebrows raised a fraction at the boy's stare and comment, but didn't think too much of it. "Indeed, Treyen." Was all he said, before moving on to the next student.

Lachlan didn't say anything to the girl other than to nodding in agreement, but that was mostly because it seemed that Rosie had finally realized that there was another Rose-something who was part of the class.

Honestly, she could be so rude sometimes. "Lady Rosamund," Lachlan muttered, "Remember that respect goes both ways."

In response, the Sphinx merely grunted and nodded stiffly at the Gryffindor girl.

Those were some big words coming out of such a young student, but seeing that the girl was a member of the Ravenclaw house, Lachlan supposed he should have expected no less. "You are correct, Miss Basthowe." And incredibly eloquent, too, but Lachlan didn't mention that. From his school years, he'd learned that most Ravenclaws were perfectly aware of their smarts and pointing them out would only earn you a look that clearly said, 'Thank you, Captain Obvious.'

Almost angelically, she smiled. "I suppose we can all see now why a member of the Ravenclaw house you are not.

Bloody kids.

Lachlan's mouth pursed. "Rosamund, apologize at once."

Lady Rosamund the Seventh gave the Care of Magical Creatures Professor a very long look. Then slowly turned settled her cool almond-shaped eyes on the Slytherin boy. "My apologies, young snake. I should not have spoken to you in such a way.

And that had almost rhymed. Her mother would be so proud.

Lachlan momentarily pinched the bridge of his nose, and stood up. The grass rippled under his feet as he marched around the students, and began to talk. He paused, to watch Rosamund wag her tail again, and then continued. "As many of you have pointed out, respect goes both ways. "I want you to keep that in mind not only for this particular class, but for the rest of the term as well. Creatures will not respect you or cooperate with you, or even befriend you, if you do not respect them." It worked the same way with humans, really.

When MacFusty reached the area where Knox MacNair was sitting, he placed a hand gently on the boy's shoulder. "Before we immerse ourselves in the topic of Sphinxes, I believe Mister MacNair owes us a performance? A song, I believe?" He smiled at the Slytherin, and then continued, "In the meantime, though, while we wait for him to get ready, I want you all to write down in your parchment one thing you know for certain about Sphinxes."

Lachlan momentarily pinched the bridge of his nose, and stood up. The grass rippled under his feet as he marched around the students, and began to talk. "It pleases me that most of you seem to be aware of what a great part Respect plays when it comes to dealing with Magical Creatures." He paused, to watch Rosamund wag her tail again, and then continued. "As many of you have pointed out, respect goes both ways. You cannot expect respect from anyone, or anything, without giving it first." He shot a small smile to the Hufflepuff girl who'd last spoken, and continued.

Knox WAS familiar with the song. Actually, he was extremely familiar with it. His mother collected old muggle inventions, and she happened to have that song on an old vinyl. He often boogied to it in front of his full length mirror - practicing his moves.

"Sir, I haven't had any rehearsals!" Macnair gasped in horror, giving his head a quick shake. And helloooo, they were here to learn about magical creatures! "Not to mention the acoustics out here would be simply awful!"

He'd totally sing if it meant he got to adopt the sphinx though... maybe they could strike up a deal..

Oops. He flicked his wand towards the parchment on Helena's lap, and pinned it to her robes. "Indeed. Magical Creatures deserve the same amount of respect as anyone else."

Oh, he pinned the parchment to her robes. "Thank you," she whispered, smiling. At least she didn't need to hold that one on her lap.

... what? Knox was going to sing for them? Okaaaay.

But she had something to do, before he will... was he really going to sing something? So... Helena took her quill and wrote something quickly.

See?

The professor obviously understood the position she was in. Lola was a victim of the horrendous disease but she stopped herself, and would not be consumed by those nasty thoughts and simply sighed, nodding very dramatically and showing much emotion through her gestures.

"Thank you professor, thank you," she sniffed.

Well, no, she was not a victim of love, at all--just wanted to get that meaningful quote across and to have one of those 'I am a drama-lama' moments.

Lachlan mentioned that creatures won't befriend without respect.

So Lola Jones wanted to suck up to the Sphinx as much as she could--until she got that friendship (it worked on so many people if you played your cards right).

WHAT WAS THIS ABOUT A PERFORMANCE?! From a boy? From her very own house?! A song? How exciting! Lola Jones applauded, quietly (not wanting to disturb the Sphinx, no no no, she needed Rosie's friend by the end of class) and she waited eagerly. Hehe.

Meanwhile, the Slytherin girl got out her orange feathery quill (it was totally synthetic just for this class) and she flaunted her very puffy and feathery quill, for it was quite laaaaaarge and... puffy. Sphinxes? The girl wasn't an expert but she did know a few things about those creatures. She did once try out play a Sphinx in a play once, and of course, you had to know material before you played the part (she didn't get the part though, instead, she played as background scenery. Yes. Background scenery).

There was no better way to learn about creatures than by interacting with them. It was that simple.

Rosemary looked at Ariadne and shifted herself towards her as she smiled softly, "Don't worry Ariadne.... You heard the Professor.." She smiled as she returned the nod to Rosamund.

She then looked at Rosamund with a calculating mind as she tried to remember what she knew about Sphinxes.

Well. She was glad he agreed. So if she didn't respect him, no harm, right?

It probably wouldn't be an issue, though. Ellie liked him already. She could tell.

Then he went into a speech about respect. Speeches were boring. He shouldn't do that. Though it was all true. At least, what Ellie didn't tune out seemed to be true.

As for writing what she knew about Sphinxes... She didn't have the materials to do so.

Okay, she did. But they were in her bag, and she didn't feel like getting them out. So, unless he was collecting... She had quite a few answers in her head, however, if MacFusty needed an answer out of her. But in the meantime, she occupied herself with observing 'Rosie'.

"And to show respect for Magical Creatures as well," Added MacFusty, with a small nod towards the young Gryffindor.

"That is correct..." MacFusty leaned forward, squinting his eyes and trying to read the Hufflepuff's name. "Miss Rawley. Yes, that is correct. Can't expect them to respect us if we don't respect them."

Thank you."

Lachlan gave the Hufflepuff and the girl he was talking to a pointed look.

"Yes, yes. Being rude is bad." And unnecessary.

Unless you had Jarvey who happened to be called Stanley and just rejected anything you said.

....?

Lachlan MacFusty stared at the Slytherin girl. There was some... odd expression on her face, and she was going on about love...?

What....?

"It sure is, Lola."

Strange kid. Should he send her to Lily? Maybe Jones was sick...? "Thank for participating."

The girl didn't seem to have much to say, though she did look a bit frightened. Lachlan nodded in what he hoped was a reassuring way, before pinning the parchment to the front of her robes.

The girl's completely honest comment made him grin enough for his dimples to show. "Thank you for your honesty, Miss Marchbanks. Though you should know not all Magical Creatures are dangerous." He also hoped she could overcome her... fear? Yes, that exactly.

There was no better way to learn about creatures than by interacting with them. It was that simple.

Not only did the young girl supplied a very good answer, but also efficiently pinned her name to her robes. And, naturally, Kimalia was a member of the house of Salazar Slytherin.

Not that he was biased. "Thank you, Miss Fanster. And I can assure you that Rosie is not as dangerous as she looks." No, she was actually worse, but they were all perfectly safe right now.

Rosamund, who had been mostly quiet for the past ten minutes, lazily rested her eyes on the Slytherin girl and drawled out in her musical voice, "I like her."

Rosamund stared at the finger directed at her. Then processed the boys' words.

Almost angelically, she smiled. "I suppose we can all see now why a member of the Ravenclaw house you are not.

That didn't even rhymed.

Was that Sphinx insulting him?! Wh-why? Huuuh. He felt... degraded! Enough to even go into the corner and wallow in self pity. The apology did nothing to make him feel better. It also worried him that the Sphinx was talking. Jamie had no recollection of those creatures being able to talk...

"Oh... not to worry." Jamie's eyes wandered elsewhere. He seemed to think that he would die if he looked into its eyes. After looking aimlessly around the area, Jamie peered down to his parchment as the professor asked them to write something down.

A fact. A fact. ARGH, he needed a fact.

Millie raised looked at the creature for a moment, then away. It was still creepy. There were tons of things that were known for sure about sphinxes. They guard treasure. They are really smart. They speak in riddles. The Egyptians liked them. The list goes on and on, but if they were talking about respect for creature, she figured the one that would be listed as respectful to a sphinx would be to call it highly intelligent. So that's what she wrote.

She still smiled unfazed by some of the stares she received for showing uneasiness. Glancing at Rosie who was staring at her lazily almost frightened her, but the longer she stared the more relaxed she became. Maybe this one isn't so bad after all..

She could respond to this one though. It was easy enough to draw up a fact about this creature. Only one though. Hmm. Arya scribbled down a fact about the beautiful creature, allowed herself one more fleeting glance at her, and then turned her attention to Professor RE-spect and the boy about to put on a show for them. Not as exciting as the Sphinx, but it should prove entertaining.

Was a song really necessary? Not that having someone randomly sing that "Respect" song would be all that awful, but that song wasn't going to be on her Care of Magical Creatures OWL now, was it? No, probably not. So it was entirely unnecessary and wasn't helping her prepare at all.

Gavin looked up at the sphynx and smiled at her. He liked her witty speach and would have loved to actually start a conversation with her. He was pretty sure she would be very challenging to speak with.

Gavin took his piece of parchment and wrote down: They like to give riddle to solve. He wondered if he should also write there was a statue of one in Egypt but thought he would wait to see what happened next.

Selina listened to her Professor speak. He went on about respect and the value of respect with animals, although she was sure that there was a hidden message of respect to himself in that little speech. After all he was a new Professor and they were usually not the most respected bunch.

Then when the Slytherin prepared for his performance Selina began to scribble down a fact about sphinxs on her parchment. Her knowledge was limited to a visit she had taken with her Muggle grandfather to a Muggle Museum when she was seven. But, hey, write what you know.

Sphinxs are different in every culture. The two most famous cultures to depict them in Greek and Egyptian. According to Greek mythology the sphinx brought on bad luck and destruction. Has the head of a woman, tale of a snake, wings of an eagle, and the body of a lion.

Kita blinked. Ok, this was a bit... tense. That pointed look the Professor had just shot her way was definitely going to teach her to shut up. She made a mental note to never get on the wrong side of him. She gave him a small smile.

Keeping her mouth firmly shut, she watched the Professor moving around the students. Right! Keep in mind to respect creatures? Practically done. In a way.

Wait... WHAT?! A performance? Now that should be interesting! Maybe the song was going to be about magical creatures...? Who knows!

Hm... Something about Sphinxes... Kita racked her brain, trying to think about something, anything, to do with sphinxes. "Ooh!" she said as something came into her head and she bent down and scribbled onto her parchment:

SPOILER!!: Kita's parchment
Kita Lewis

Sphinxes come from Egypt I think.

Oh. Alex hadn't given the best first impression, he shouldn't have said 'animals' then the subject would have been called Care of Macigal Animals, which is was not. He however tore his eyes from the sphinx in front of him to write down one thing on his parchment that he was certain about.

SPOILER!!: Parrrrchment
Alex Reed
Fourth year Slytherin

- Very proud creatures

He looked up at the sphinx and then nodded his head, that had to be a true fact.

SPOILER!!: more notes
Alex Reed
Fourth year Slytherin

- Very proud creatures
- They don't speak plain english (aka weird words and riddles)

he added one more fact before putting his quill down and resumed his eyeing of the sphinx. Hai sphinxiebooo! When he heard a Slytherin would put on some sort of show he grinned widely and resisted the urge to clap his hands together like a seal and jump up and down like his dog. Sing, boy! SING!

Kurumi had been staring in awe at the Sphinx from the moment she had entered the classroom. It's frightening yet beautiful head of a human and its majestic yet menacing body of a lion. Kurumi had only read about this creature and was rather jealous that Triwizard Champions in the past had been given the opportunity to speak to one during a task. Although, she was sure that the students at that time had not enjoyed trying to figure out such a tricky riddle that she wasn't sure she would have been able to figure out under such pressure.

Kurumi was so interested in the creature that she almost didn't hear Professor MacFusty begin class.

Thankfully, she did, and she scribbled down her name, year, and house on her parchment.

SPOILER!!: Kurumi's parchment

Kurumi Hollingberry // Gryffindor // third year

She then looked up when she heard him address the class. What did she want to learn in class? Um...how about everything and anything that had to do with magical creatures? She wasn't picky, just as long as they didn't have to dig through poop. Still, her eyes kept flicking back to the BEAUTIFUL creature in front of them.

"Professor MacFusty," Kurumi squeaked as she raised her hand in the air. "I would like to learn more about your," she paused at her next word not knowing what would be the proper way to address the creature and NOT offend it. "...I mean, about Rosie." That was the name that had been written on the paper near his hut, right? She was under the impression that it was illegal to keep Sphinxes. "I also think that respect is something you must first think of yourself. Without respecting who you are as a person, I suppose it would be rather hard to respect others."

Kurumi almost squealed when Rosie spoke and addressed several students in the class. OH! How she wished the beautiful creature would also speak to her. She didn't understand why the Ministry put them in the category of 'beast' when they seemed to be so much more than an animal. A hippogriff, sure, that was a beast. But Roise and those like her could TALK! Didn't the term beast seem below them?
SPOILER!!: Kurumi's parchment

Kurumi Hollingberry // Gryffindor // third year
What I think I know about Sphinxes
  • native to Egypt
  • head of a beautiful human and body of a lion
  • CAN SPEAK!
  • love puzzles, riddles, and enigmas
  • are very intelligent
  • are categorized as 'beast' by the Ministry
  • Ministry of Magic Classification of XXXX
  • have violent tendencies
  • were used for centuries to guard treasure
  • a female Sphinx was used during the Third Task of the Triwizard Tournament (1994-1995)

After squealing over and over in her head as she glanced up after each thing she had written down to look at Rosie and mostly ignoring the professor because he wasn't nearly as interesting as her, Kurumi set her parchment on her lap and waited for things to move on.

Could she talk to Rosie now? PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAASE?!
