"Slytherin and Hufflepuff. For three points... what is the basic Levitation Spell?"

The basic Levitation spell? Didn't they just -

Oooh.

Helena remembered now, since she'd never forget that water balloon fight from the last term. "It's just Leviosa, and to cast the charm successfully, a prefix indicating the item to be levitated is added."

Grin.

Basic Levitation Spell?! Lara was a bit confused? Didn't they just say it "isn't it Wingardium Leviosa, sir?" she wondered raising her hand with an exclamation mark on her face .She hoped that this is what the Professor is asking about.

Um...

Was this a trick question? It seemed a little too...easy. Almost tentatively, Samira raised her hand, sure it was some kind of trick question. "Sir? Is it Wingardium Leviosa?" If this answer wasn't right she would feel like an idiot...

Jared shook his head. He couldn't have said that he hadn't expected a good portion of the students present to make this mistake. "Close, but not close enough," he smiled, a faint sort of smile.

Grin.

Jared nodded. "Very good. The basic Levitation Spell is Levioso. Wingardium leviosa is a variation - to make the charm serve us better, we add a prefix indicating the target to the word Leviosa." It was a proven method of making levitation easier to execute and control, especially at the beginner's level.

"Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. For three points, can anyone give me the incantation and wand movement for the Bubble-Head Charm?"

sweetpinkpixie 07-21-2011 09:33 AM

Kurumi thought for a moment. She was pretty sure that she had read about it somewhere in one of the charms books in the back of the practice room a little while back. Scratching her head for a moment, Kurumi resorted to smacking her forehead with the palm of her hand as if that would make the information ooze out of her brain or something.

Strangely enough, it worked.

"The incantation would be Viseo Ebullio," Kurumi said as her hand shot up in the air. "You point your wand towards your face and as you say the incantation you move your wand in a counter-clockwise motion around the area you wanted the bubble to form."

Now...this was very annoying. VERY ANNOYING so Josh had to point out. Totally ignoring the previous feather attack fail, it was a feather after all nothing good enough for a perfect attack, Josh gave the Charms Professor a look with narrowed eyes.

''Why is it always...that we are paired with Ravenclaw Birdies?''

Kick the Bubble-Head Charm away!!! Who cared about it when there was something in question as annoying as being paired with Ravie Birdies.

Quick Quotes Quill 07-21-2011 10:17 AM

All right... let's see... I have no idea what to answer, but I have to say something, the young Ravenclaw thought. 'Well... the wand movement... eh... I think you just have to point the wand to your face and make some kind of counter-clockwise movement.', Gwen said, looking totally confused. How come I don't know much about it? Hmm?!?! I have to know!

And now, the incantation... 'I don't know the incantation is...', she admitted looking down. I feel stupid!

Jared turned to look at the Gryffindor, deadpan. "I look at all of you as my students, Joshua, and I expect you to look at all your classmates as classmates - irrespective of which houses they belong to." The restrictions on some of the questions had to do with testing everyone's attention, and the choice of houses had been spur-of-the-moment, not intentional lumping. Jared hadn't raised his voice, and it continued to remain both calm and neutral as he spoke again.

"I'd like to see you in the Charms Practice Hall, after class."

"It's fine," Jared said, surprised at how downcast the Ravenclaw looked. "The point of this lesson is to share our knowledge and learn from it. I'd be surprised if everyone knew everything." Besides, the students would be learning the Bubble-Head Charm, this lesson.

He looked up when Kurumi spoke. "That's it," he agreed. "Viseo Ebullio while tracing a counter-clockwise circle over the target area."

"For two points," He said, turning to the class in general. "I'd like all of you to cast Lumos." The lights in the classroom flickered out as he spoke, leaving everyone in semi-darkness. It was, after all, next to impossible to see the effects of the charm in broad daylight.

Lumos? Alright.

Just as Helena was about to cast the spell, she watched as the lights flickered out and felt as the corners of her mouth were slightly twitching into a large smile.

She held her wand, lifted it up a little bit and muttered "Lumos," and then watched as the tip of her wand started to glow in a white-bluish light. She was tempted to try the other one, Lumos Maxima, but she didn't do it. If professor Descoteaux wanted Lumos, Lumos to be.

hjhm 07-21-2011 03:01 PM

Lumos or as some people came to know it as the wand-lighting spell. Easy enough to cast.

Jonathan readied his wand and flicked it "Lumos" and as he did, there was a light that lit up at the ends of his wand. It had a white glow. Jonathan smiled as he did. He looked at the professor as soon as he cast the spell correctly.

This is really fun.

elllla_Wtwins 07-21-2011 03:04 PM

Gasping slightly as the lights flickered off, Thea grasped her wand and swallowed. Ok.. Lumos. Lumos lumos lumos...
Flicking her dark hair back, she cleared her throat. All around her, wand tips were ignited, along with the occasional mutterings of 'Lumos'.
'Lumos..' She whispered. Thea watched as her own wand tip egnited slowly. A little smile appeared on her lips as a small bluey white light appeared.
'There we go..' She muttered.

DuckyLinJi 07-21-2011 03:04 PM

He knew how to do this! he knew it~! Finally a task that he could do!

Daichi grabbed his wand again and held it in his wand arm. He gave it a flick and said "Lumos!" The end of the wand started to glow a bright light and he grinned victorious.

Sierra sat still and quiet as the Gryffindors and Ravenclaws answered. She even passed Josh a rather amused look as he commented on being paired with the birdies. She, too, had commented on being paired with the Hufflepuffs, only, she'd been smart enough not to say it aloud. *smirk*

She turned back to the professor just in time to hear the next question. Hmm. Lumos. She'd used that one a lot during the last class. With her wand pointed straight forward, she moved it in a crescent shape and then said, "Lumos!"

It seemed this was one charm that all the students could cast. Daichi included. Jared resisted the urge to grin. "What's the counter-charm?" he asked. "Go ahead and cast it."

For... two points? Two points sounded fair, Jared decided.

hjhm 07-21-2011 03:49 PM

Of course, what else could it be? Jonathan looked at his wand that was still lighting up from the Lumos spell he cast.

The professor wants the counter charm? The counter charm it is.

With another flick of his wand he said out "Nox!" and so the light turned off with a blink. Pretty fun. Off,On,Off,On,Off,On. Jonathan remembers doing that back at the common room when he's bored of doing anything..

Sierra looked down at the tip of her wand. It was illuminated, giving off a nice glow of the room. Too bad she had to end it now. At least the next incantation was an easy one for her to remember, though. She'd recently decided, after a year and a half, to finally give a name to her unnamed owl--Nox, she'd decided on.

With a shrug, she flicked her wand. "Nox," she said.

"The Counter charm is Nox!"
said Nessie hoping she was right. Since her wand wasn't litten yet she took it out then quietly said. "Lumos" she then looked at the bright light. It was pretty, well she thought it was. Hopping what she had said was right she said. "Nox" apparently it was as Nessie's wand's light turned off.

MagicGlitter 07-21-2011 03:52 PM

SPOILER!!: Oops. I missed Lumos....

Lumos was one of Ariella's favorite spells. She loved making the tip of her wand light up. "Lumos!" she said, tracing her wand in a crescent shape. Instantly, her wand began glowing.

"Nox!" Ariella said. The light on the tip of her wand went out at once. She smiled. Success! This was turning out to be pretty easy, after all.

Weasley174 07-21-2011 03:55 PM

pretending I did the Lumos spell.

Simon had to think about this one for awhile but then he remembered. "Nox." The light on the tip of his wand went out at once, he was glad that he knew what he was doing in a subject at once.

DuckyLinJi 07-21-2011 03:58 PM

Daichi held the wand up as he waited for the next instructions. Putting out the light? The first year had to think for a moment. What was the incantation again? He stared at the ceiling with a slight frown. Think Daichi , Think! He suddenly smiled and flicked his wand. "Nox!" he said and watched as the light faded away. Mwahaha he was doing gooood!

Good. That was two points apiece. Daylight flooded the classroom once more, a moment or half after the glows from the wandtips died and the room became dark again.

"First through fourth years -" Which meant the next question would be fifth through seventh years - "There's spellwork in place at Hogwarts, that transforms the stairs of the girls dormitories into slides, to prevent boys from entering. For two points, who can tell me which common charm is part of this spellwork?"

Weasley174 07-21-2011 04:11 PM

Simon looked at the Professor and smiled. "I was thinking maybe the Vanishing charm." He wasn't sure if it was right, but at least he was trying.

"Nox," Helena said as soon as professor Descoteaux stopped speaking.

This time, she watched as the bluish-white light went out, and also looked around as the light in the room was starting to face away. Helloooo darkness.

"Glisseo," Sierra said, her hand in the air. Merlin, this was an easy final. Thank you, Professor D! She still hadn't managed to figure out how to spell or say his last name, which was why was she always referred to him as the professor. Why couldn't all final exams be this way, hmm?

Fred is awesome 07-21-2011 05:00 PM

Rose raised her hand. 'Was it Glisseo?' Meh, maybe she was right!

Quick Quotes Quill 07-21-2011 05:57 PM

Yay! Finally I know something! Didn't we practice that spell in the first charms class? It would be impossible not to know that! 'Glisseo', Gwen announced simply. And there's no chance I'm mistaken. Or at least I hope so... Then, she waited patiently for the next question.

hjhm 07-21-2011 06:17 PM

A first to fourth year question. Goodie.

Jonathan listened carefully to the professor as he asked his next question. And then in his head the same question repeated as well.

What was that spell again? Jonathan looked at the ground for awhile and thought about it. Hmmmm... He tried snapping his fingers softly.

OF COURSE, how could he miss that spell?! His cousin used to talk about it back when he was a student. "Glisseo" yes, he's confident enough with his answer. Very much confident with that.
