Lara smiled when Professor Descoteaux asked this question because totally remembers this one. She raised her hand enthusiastically and said "We make a circle in the air with our wand "She said drawing one with her hand as a confirmation "And then we draw an X" she said drawing that too. She hoped it wasn't too much.

Ahhh that cool charm that they've learned last term. "We have to make a circle and an X," Helena said with a tiiiiny grin on her face. She LOVED that charm. Hehe.

"Circle followed by an X," Jared agreed, giving the students who had responded a light nod, before moving on to the next question. "For three points, I'd like all of you to levitate the feather closest to you, before it falls on your desks or the floor."

Pure white feathers - one above each student's desk - began to sloooowly float downwards from the ceiling, picking up more speed after a few seconds. They were charmed to vanish after several moments of being levitated.

OOC: I shall be looking for the correct incantation and wand movement, in these kind of questions. =]

Weasley174 07-20-2011 12:33 PM

Simon smiled as he took out his wand, this was going to be easy he had practiced this spell for ages and as such he knew the incantation and wand movement of by heart.

Simon decided he would watch the feather fall and wait until the right time to do the spell when it got to his head hight he smiled as he said the incantation. "Wing gar dium Levi o sa." Simon said making sure he said the gar nice and long, he had realised that helped the spell.

Simon then did the swish and flick wand movement, he was glad when the feather levitated and he could have levitated it all day but the feather vanished after a while.

Fred is awesome 07-20-2011 12:43 PM

Swish and Flick! Rose thought as she said 'WingARdium LeviOsa!' Prounouncing the 'gar' and the 'o', while swishing and flicking. The feather lifted just as it was about to fall, as Rose had slow reflexes!

Trish 07-20-2011 12:44 PM

Penny knew this one...Pointing her wand at the feather she performed the movement 'Swish and Flick'.... then clearing her throat, immediatley saying the incantation clearly "Wing-gar-dium Levi-o-sa".....

Penny smiled at her now floating feather...it worked :)

nogoodforyou 07-20-2011 01:11 PM

Levitate a feather? Good. This was simple.

Helena took her wand out of a pocket of her robes and pointed it towards the closest feather that was slowly falling. "Wingardium leviosa," she said, making the swish-and-flick movement, and then watched as the feather rose back up in the air. Hehe.

Quick Quotes Quill 07-20-2011 01:57 PM

Hehe… the levitation charm? Using this on a feather is going to be so easy… I used it on William the time he annoyed me- how could I fail making the feather float? It just has to be something like…wing-GAR-dee-əm LEV-ee-OH-sə and the wand movement would be the swish-and-flick. ‘Wingardium Leviosa’, Gwen said loud and clear. Ha! It worked!

Now… what next?

DuckyLinJi 07-20-2011 02:14 PM

Daichi grabbed his wand from his wrist holster. He listened to the instructions of the Professor and looked around as the students levitated the feather above them. He gulped nervously as he saw how first years and second years were able to perform this charm. He nodded to himself and pointed at the feather that fell down slowly. "Wingardium Leviosa" he shouted and made a flick and swish movement. Nothing happend. He tried again, but failed again. What was he doing wrong?! The feather fell down and landed on the floor. He took a deep sigh and hoped no one saw his fail.
He never liked this spell anyway...

hjhm 07-20-2011 02:20 PM

Feather and not let it touch the floor. Easy enough.

Jonathan swished and flicked his wand "Wingardium leviosa" he uttered. Smiling that his incantation work, he looked at the feather as it floated in mid air.

That should be enough.

Roselyn 07-20-2011 02:38 PM

That seemed easy enough, but...what feather?

EEP! There it was!

Quickly taking out her wand, fumbling with it for a moment, she pointed it at the floating/moving feather and gave a swish and flick just as it was almost touching the side of her desk. "Wingardium leviosa." Stop! STOP- Stare. Eh? Evelyn didn't really have a clue if she had gotten the feather in time but with a quick tilt of her wand to point more towards the ceiling, she was a bit relieved that the feather followed.

If the professor asked, she was totally saying it didn't touch her desk. Totally. If she had her wand out in time, it wouldn't have been a problem.

MagicGlitter 07-20-2011 02:57 PM

Easy enough, right?! Ariella grabbed her wand. "Wingardium Leviosa!" she said, using the correct swish-and-flick motion. She made sure she had given it a nice 'o' sound. She grinned. Her flower was floating gracefully above her.

"Aguamenti, on the other hand, is considered a transfigurational spell because it involves conjuration. When you conjure, say, a chair, the chair is technically being 'issued' from the caster's wand. The same is the case with conjuring water. "

"The other thing to remember, of course -" and knowing Kurumi, he had no doubts that she did remember it - "Is that it you can't always categorize a spell based on theoretical knowledge. Spell-mechanism* is essential to the classification of a spell, because it explains how the spell - charm or otherwise - brings about the change it does bring about. Take Mizurus boru, for instance. Someone who doesn't know how that particular charm works could very well think that it conjures water. But the fact is, there's no conjuration involved."

"That's a very good line of thought, though. Take two points for your house."

* OOC: Since transfiguration and the like are regulated by laws, think reaction mechanism.

Kurumi knew that this was supposed to be a review lesson of sorts, but she just couldn't help but pull out a fresh piece of parchment and write a few notes down based on the plethora of information she had just been dealt. Based on this question and the one she had asked in Ancient Runes, she was beginning to think that she really should look into taking some summer classes at other wizarding schools. Wizarding universities seemed to offer classes, but she wasn't sure that someone her age, someone going into their fourth year to be precise, would have a chance at being accepted into such programs. Perhaps she would have to keep all this on the back burner until the summer going into her fifth and sixth years.

"That would be a circle followed by an X," Kurumi said with her hand raised up high in the air.

Kurumi's head snapped upwards when she heard something about feathers. Merlin! It was raining them. Kurumi pulled her wand out of its holster - nearly sending it sailing across the room in the process - and tried to take careful aim of the feather floating closest to her. Moving objects were always so much harder to cast charms at - like all those bloody chocolate frogs from last term. "Win-GAR-dee-um lev-ee-OH-sa," she enunciated as clearly as she could while performing a simple swish and flick movement with her wand - making sure that the swish was fluid and the flick not too strong.

Her feather's movement slowed until it had come to a stop. Testing to make sure that all was well, Kurumi moved her wand slightly upwards and was pleased to see that the feather followed.

Phew, task accomplished.

Lara held up her wand and looked up, she saw the white feather. She flicked har wand and with a flick and swish movment she said clearly "Wingardium Leviosa!" And the feather was about to fall on her desk. But Lara's timing was perfect. She moved her wand a bit up and the feather easily was few inches up. Lara smiled satisfied.

She waited again and the feather was about to touch the desk again. So one more time Lara moved up her wand again a bit higher this time.

Magical Soul 07-20-2011 03:59 PM

Mizurus boru..? After one minute of deep staring at the ceiling, she remembered hearing this spell in Transfiguration. When they were taught to light a fire and then blow it out. Anyways, a feather appeared close to her desk and started swirling in the air slowly downward, "Wingardium Leviosa!" She said swishing and flicking her wrist skillfully.

Meh, practicing it on feathers was boring. It made more sense and felt so good when Dal did it on her at the treehouse. She might mention that fun method of learning to the Professor when the review was over.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 07-20-2011 04:08 PM

Levitate the feather? Hmm, simple enough, right?

Vashti drew her wand, moved it in a swish and flick motion, and said, "Wingardium Leviosa!" The feather stopped in its descent toward her desk, now floating in midair. There. Now how long were they supposed to keep levitating the- Oh! It vanished! Well, that settled that.

GrapehSarah 07-20-2011 06:41 PM

Fallon grabbed her wand and pointed it at the feather. Really? This was something really easy. She was going to be able to do it on the first try. Fallon made the swish and flick motion while she said, "Wingardium Leviosa." She watched as the feather slowly floated up towards the ceiling. She grinned as it vanished into thin air after a few seconds.

littledhampir 07-20-2011 06:49 PM

Ooh she knew this one. Isobel pointed her wand at the feather while it still had a ways to fall. She didn't want to be rushed. "Wingardium Leviosa," she said confidently. She made a swish and flick motion as she said it. Then she watched the feather float up where she pointed her wand.

Sierra blinked as a sudden rainfall of feathers plagued the classroom. Dear Merlin! She flicked her wand out of its wrist holster, doing it so quickly that she nearly missed catching it as it shot out for her to grab. She made a light growl at that, but then realizing she didn't have much time to perform the charm before the feathers hit the floor, she ignored how annoyed she was at her wand.

She spotted a pure white feather floating just above her head, steadily making its way to the floor. She pointed her wand at it and focused on keeping it afloat. "Wingardium Leviosa!" she said, giving her wand a simple swish and flick. The feather stopped and hovered a foot or so away from her wand. Sierra moved her wand up and then down, pleased to see that the feather followed its direction.

elllla_Wtwins 07-20-2011 08:06 PM

Ok.. ok. Breath deeply. Now it was Thea's turn to show that she wasn't stupid just cause she was a firstie.
Grasping her wand, she made a neat swish and flick. 'Wingardium Leviosa!' She cried, and to her delight the feather rose gently.

Shifting her wand about a bit, she grinned as the feather followed. With a small pop her feather dissapeared. Placing her wand on the desk, Thea smiled.

Hahahahahahahhahahahah...

What? Levitate a feather? Which feather was that supposed to be? Ha? Huh? Giving the professor a look that said 'i don't really care', Josh yawned and leaned back to make himself comfortable on his seat. He did not know if the fact that he did not care about the class would annoy the French man yet he did not care about that either. Or...he cared because he needed to get his revenge for that essay punishment.

The boy was distracted though, when he saw feathers floating around and people were casting spells at them. So, looked up a bit the Gryffindor stared at the one closest to him before lazily pointing his wand at it. Then doing that common swish and flick movement, lazily again, he murmured ''Wingardium Leviosa'' then standing up quickly he blew the feather towards the man.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

slytherus 07-20-2011 11:44 PM

Levitating a feather? Really? This is goin to be a whole lot easier than she thought. Aiden locks on a falling feather and points her wand towards it as she focus.

Moving the wand in a swish and a flick, Aiden says the incantation clearly. "Wingardium Leviosa."

The feather that the Gryffindor had blown towards the front of the classroom fell to the floor, a short distance from Jared's desk; and, after a few moments of lying motionless there, disappeared. Jared raised an inquiring eyebrow, before turning to the rest of the class.

Kids.

Most of the class seemed to be doing fine. Which was a good thing, considering that the charm was a basic one. Jared waited for a few seconds, allowing all the feathers in the classroom to vanish, before moving on to the next question.

"Slytherin and Hufflepuff. For three points... what is the basic Levitation Spell?"

Lara's feather disappeared before it touched the desc. So Lara turned back to the Professor.

Basic Levitation Spell?! Lara was a bit confused? Didn't they just say it "isn't it Wingardium Leviosa, sir?" she wondered raising her hand with an exclamation mark on her face .She hoped that this is what the Professor is asking about.

Samira Malfoy Potter 07-21-2011 05:21 AM

Basic levitation spell?

Um...

Was this a trick question? It seemed a little too...easy. Almost tentatively, Samira raised her hand, sure it was some kind of trick question. "Sir? Is it Wingardium Leviosa?" If this answer wasn't right she would feel like an idiot...

Didn't they just do the basic levitation spell? ...and why were the Slytherins lumped in with the Hufflepuffs?! Hmph. Sierra raised her hand. "Levioso is the basic Levitation Spell," she said. "Unless you're looking for what we just did--Wingardium Leviosa, or the Hover Charm..."
