For once, the Charms classroom looks like a regular ol' classroom. The desks are arranged in two wide semi-circles, one half-circle behind the other. There's a huge tray containing an assortment of cookies and wrapped-in-plastic brownies and the like - with a note that reads, Help Yourselves attached to it - on Professor Descoteaux's desk. The Charms professor himself is not in the classroom.
Come in and take a seat.
OOC: You may post your charries arriving, but the lesson itself will begin in ten to twelve hours, right before I close the second Charms lesson. It's going to be a mix of Q&A and practical bits aaand since there will be no homework for this lesson AND it will serve as an in-class final of sorts, class participation is worth 30 individual house points.
{ OOC Index }
How many questions are there going to be? Fifteen-ish?

Glisseo, he meant?
Ahh they discussed this during the last lesson, so Helena's hand shot up in the air. "It comes from the French work Glisser that means to slide or to slip." And this was one of the only words in French Helena knew. Hehe.

"Felix Summerbee," Jared nodded. With a name like that, the man must have had ample reason and motivation to invent a Cheering Charm.
"You'll find blocks of wood on your desks." The blocks, rough but light, had appeared there, one on each desk. "For four points... split the block on your desk into two -"Without splitting the desk - "Then repair the block, and smoothen its surface."

Oooh this sounded like fun!
Helena grabbed her wand and pointed it towards the piece of wood that was in front of her. "Diffindo," she said, making that slash movement, and watching as it split into two smaller pieces. Hehe.
And then... "Reparo." And... "Glisseo."
There. The piece of wood was back to normal and also nice and smooth.
As the block appears on her desk, Aiden draws out her wand and points it towards the wooden block. Then, she makes a downward slashing movement. "Diffindo," she mutters causing the block to split into two... And there is a cut line on her desk. It is a good thing she did not put it too much power.
Now she has to repair the block. Aiden puts the slashed wooden blocks together and taps the tip of her wand at the middle of the block. "Reparo," this time her voice is louder and clearer. Her tone determines that she is concentrating.
Pulling her wand further from the block, Aiden points her wand towards the block. Taking a deep breath, she speaks the incantation. "Glisseo," the uneven block starts to look smoother.
Oh... easy, Gwen thought and looked at the block of wood in front of her. The young ravvie took out her wand, pointed it at the wooden thing and said loud and clear: 'Diffindo'. Right, now... moving on, she told herself after having noticed the charm worked. Repair the block? Then it was kind of pointless to break it, now... wasn't it. But meh, if I'll get points for doing this, I don't care how pointless it is.'Reparo', Gwen said and nodded. There.... and now I only need to smoothen the surface. Easy, again- 'Glisseo', the girl finally said. All done!

Kurumi was beginning to wonder if this pop quiz of Professor Descoteaux was ever going to end. Not only was there questions based on their lessons from this term, but there were questions on topics that they hadn't discussed at all and her head was spinning because of it.
Next thing she knew, there was a block before her and she blinked at it several times before Professor Descoteaux's instructions sunk in. She removed her wand from its holster once more and pointed it at the block. "Diffindo," she said calmly, bringing her wand downward to make slashing motion, something that looked like a wind swish of wind shot itself out of her wand and struck the block. The block snapped in half instantly and the table remained unharmed. Just to make sure, Kurumi leaned forward and rubbed the surface.
Oops...there was a bit of a carving into the wood of her desk. Would Glisseo fixed that? She would have to try that after she had finished her wood block task.
Kurumi pushed the two pieces of the block back together and then taped them once. "Reparo," she commanded and the two halves seemed to melt back together.
Phew, so far so good.
Pointing her wand once more at the blocks, Kurumi took a deep breath. "Glisseo." And with that, the block looked and felt like it had never been divided in the first place. Now, for that crease of sorts in the top of her desk.
Kurumi tapped her desk where the scar now was and repeated Glisseo and ran her hand over the desk's surface once more.
Good, now her desk was back to normal as well.
She needed a sugar boost and her eyes glanced towards the cookies in the front of the room. "Accio cookie!"A cookie went shooting across the room, nearly smacking Professor Descoteaux's right ear, and landed right in Kurumi's hand. Taking a bit, Kurumi's eye lit up. She was going to have to ask for these cookie's recipe as well.
"Professor Descoteaux," she chirped after swallowing her cookie. "I didn't know that you baked."

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Daichi watched at his desk as a wooden block suddenly appeared in front of him and he gulped nervously. He had expected that they would use the spells eventually but it still made him a bit nervous.
No, he knew the spells! He had done the first one a couple of.times now! Only... so far he had only managed to split a whole wall...not anything that was smaller.
The first year rolled up his sleeves as he grabbed his wand. He was going to find out right now how gooor bad he had become. He pointed his wand at the block and cleared his throat. "Diffindo!" He slashed his wand like a sword downwards and nervously looked at the block.
It was like everything had turned in to slow motion as he watched with wide eyes and a smile that turned bigger by the second when the wooden block split in two. H-he did it.? He ACTUALLY did it! A soft squeal echoed through the classroom as Daichi couldn't help it. He quickly pretended it wasn't him who made the sound but his smile never left.
Okay, so step two.was reparing the block? Thank meeeeerlin he had seen Evan doing this spell and had asked.the Professor the other lesson what it was called. Maybe he had said it again today but Daichi had been worrying more about the Diffindo spell than the other. He pointed his wand at the split block and said [B]"Reparo!"[/B ]The blocks melted in to one.
It was like his smile couldn't widenen impossible further but he did. Daichi felt proud of himself that he was finally able to perform two spells in a row that worked! With much more convidence, Daichi pointed the wand back at the wooden block. "Glisseo!" he shouted...but nothing worked. As his heart sank, Daichi tried again "Glisseo!" nothing. Daichi frowned , he prodded the block with his wand , examining if only the slightest amount was polished. Instead, the wooden block catched fire and the first year gave a yell in fright and fell of his chair.

Hmmm...glancing own to the block of wood without moving her head, she lazily scooted it a bit closer to herself before remembering a certain incident that happened the last time she tried to split something in half. Erm...
Sitting up straight, since she really didn't want to split the desk into two as well, she pointed her wand at the block of wood and created a downward slashing motion. "Diffindo." she said, watching the wood split into two. And...her desk...well that seemed fine actually. Note to self, don't use this spell when angry.
"Reparo." Although, she couldn't help but wonder what would happen if someone casted the mending charm when angry. Did all spells have disastrous effects when one's emotions were on the brink of exploding?
...Did she always get distracted this easily?
Blinking, Evelyn looked back down to the mended block of wood and once again, pointed her wand at it. "Glisseo." she said, concentrating on the wood being all...slippery and stuff. It looked like it wasn't doing anything but, give a moment or so, it started to slowly, VERY SLOWLY, slide it's way towards the edge of her desk and ultimately...landed in her lap- EEP!
The sudden yell and loud thud of someone falling off their seat actually...gave her a fright. What in Merlin's beard? ....OMG, fire?...
Jared stepped lightly to the side as a cookie went whizzing by. It seemed it had been summoned by Kurumi because, half a moment later, it was sitting in the young Gryffindor's hand.
Him? Bake?
"I don't," Jared grinned. "These are bakery products."

"Alright there?" Jared asked, extinguishing the fire, repairing the desk and helping Daichi to his feet as if students setting things on fire, damaging furniture and falling out of their chairs was routine. Which it was, now. Routine. The Slytherin had done a good job, though... even if he had ended up putting his wooden block on fire.
Jared glanced at his watch as the wooden blocks disappeared. He had less than twenty minutes before the double period came to an end. Right then. Moving on to the last question. "How long does a charm generally last?" he asked, looking up again.

Oooh. Finlay thought about the question for a moment, trying to come up with the correct answer. He really didn't want to look like that much of a fool infront of the whole class. That would've been pretty embarrasing. Finlay mused, for a few more minutes, before raising his hands. "Charms appear to last longer than spells..." He mused at first, trying to word his answer so that it made more sense. "I would think the the length of time a charm lasts depends on how powerful the charm is, for example the fidelius charm would probably last a long time, considering that it's a very powerful charm."

Oh, that was too bad. Kurumi was rather hoping that she would have another cookie recipe to add to her cookie recipe notebook.
With a slight frown on her face, Kurumi returned her wand to her holster and returned that to her robe's pocket. "They last as long as it takes for a counter spell to take effect?" Kurumi asked cocking her head to the side. "Charms seem to have certain boundaries set on them and the most powerful of these being the Fidelius Charm whose effects never really wear off. Sure, the information is then leaked when the Secret Keeper divulges the information, but when a Secret-Keeper dies, their secret dies with them, or, to put it another way, the status of their secret will remain as it was at the moment of their death. Everybody in whom they confided will continue to know the hidden information, but nobody else." Then again, this could just have been a special case with Charms, but every charm they had learned also had one to reverse its effects. Would a Severing Charm ever really wear off? Kurumi wasn't really keen on sitting in front of a several block for hours or days to see if it would ever come back together again.

Well...?
Eyeing the bag of 'sweets' that was placed on his desk, Josh narrowed his eyes at it before giving the Charms Professor the very same look. A look full of disbelief, mistrust and suspicion. ''You haven't poisoned those, Have you?'' Because he just got impression that the man wanted to kill him he was surely the kind to make it look like an accident or the boy's own fault.
Nevertheless, the Gryffindor picked up one from inside the pack and threw it in his mouth. Let's see if it was actually poison. Then it slipped out his mouth when he opened it with shock upon hearing the man's next words.
Transcribe the essay in runes? Whaaaa!!?? That was beyond possibilities.

"I doubt anyone could do that with Luxra Magnifica, but it would make an excellent decorative charm," Jared said, voice still neutral. Yes. He'd chosen to treat the question as a question.
Pointless?
Wasn't that what the Gryffindor called every charm?
"That doesn't surprise me, kid. I want the essay handed in by the end of this lesson."
Moving on.
Then, the very moment Professor French-man repeated his previous answer and comment about the incantation Luxra Magnifica, Josh nodded a bit picking up the sweet that had slipped out his mouth from the desk and putting it back in his mouth. ''Yes. That was what i said.'' And it did make sense, right? Josh thought so. It did. But apparently this man did not think his answer was worth appreciating and Josh knew that was why he called it a decorative charm.
What he had said was no decorative charm!!! It could even be very useful during duels!! Hah!! Apparently this man did not understand what a real Charm was. So, in order to express how annoyed he was, the Gryffindor grimaced his face at the man. That was until the second shock hit him, though.
''I am no kid. I am of age.'' Stupid man.
He wanted the essay in runes to be ready until the end of THIS class? And that was beyond even impossibilities.

He was giving his girlfriend the puppy eyes for some help with the essay, when the annoying Charms man asked that question. The question was...kinda weird so it managed to bring the Gryffindor boy's attention back to the Professor D.
Then, the BIGHead Boy Finny Finn Fin spoke only to make him....
''BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAA!!!''
What a smart Ravenclaw, wasn't he?
''I think...'' then he started once his laughter was over ''A charm lasts until you decide cast another on it. I mean it just lasts until the effect is fixed or vanished or something. It just lasts there. Like.''
He grabbed the slippery wood from Evelyn's lap, placed it on the desk and pointed his Hazel wand at it. ''Diffindo.'' Yeaa, maybe he had been determined not to practice this spell but...here, now he was demontrating something. It was necessary.
He smiled contently when the wood was in two pieces again. ''See?'' he told everyone actually. ''If its severed then its severed. There's no way it can turn back to its original state ITSELF.''

Daichi dared to watch as the Professor extinguished the fire with a spell, possibly the aguamenti one. He wasn't sure though. However, Daichi was glad the fire had vanished , he didn't like fire , in fact he was very afraid of it. Tearing his eyes away from the wooden block that seemed like nothing had happened , Daichi stood up with the help of the Professor with slight quivering legs as he sat down on his seat again. "I-I'm alright..." he muttered.
Daichi raised his hand in the air at the next question. "The charm last as long the caster can hold it? Or ..uhm.. when a counter-spell is used." he hoped he was right.
What kind of question is this? How long does a charm last? Hmm..., the young ravvie started thinking. 'Well, they should last until the counter curse is used', she started saying. Whay else could I have answered? But... if I think about it... when using the killing curse... well- that's permanent. 'Maybe it depends on the charm?', Gwem answered. Actually, it sounded more like a question than an answer.
Louisa took a thoughtful moment before speaking, "I guess, sir, that it depends on the charm. Like... the Glisseo charm we mentioned in the Girls' dormitory doesn't seem to wear off by the end of the semester. It wouldn't finish till someone cast "finite" on it probably. While, the levitation charm lasts only as long as you're focused and willing the subject to stay suspended in midair. So.. it depends." She had uncertainty in her tone voice.

She kept glancing to Josh's general direction every now and then, not being able to help herself, however, she did semi-focus on what Professor FrenchFry was asking. "It usually depends on the spell and the person casting it..." she muttered, of course after raising her hand.
Oh. Ohhhkay. Josh was moving.

Mmphh.
No space. There was noooo space now.
Help him with the runes?
Raising a brow, she stared at him before a silent chuckle escaped her. Help him? Actually, boyfriend and love of her life or not, she thought he deserved this. "Use your runes book." Then again, he usually didn't even bring the simple things like parchment. Did he have his book?
Ariella raised her hand. She put her other hand over her mouth to keep from yawning. This double period was getting boring. "Well, a charm can last from just a few minutes to a lifetime. It depends on the charm, doesn't it? Charms generally last for longer than other spells, though. For example, the Fidelius charm can last until the secret keeper dies and the levitation charm lasts until the user puts his or her wand down." Ariella paused. "Something that has been charmed for a long time can be referred to as bewitched, right?"
Aiden has never enjoyed a class so much. This one, she does not even have to do a lot of thinking. Just those general things that everyone is supposed to know. "It depends on the casters. The longer they stay focus, the longer the charm would last. Like the Patronus Charm," she pauses, attempting to put the words together. "It also depends on the casters' will, I supposed?"

Runes book? Runes book? Runes book? Runes book?
''Runes book?'' Josh said staring at his girlfriend, disbelief reflected in his dark brown eyes. Why was she talking like she had no idea who he was? Plus this was a Charms class. What would he be doing with an Ancient Runes Textbook in a Charms class? Eeeeh...and to be honest he did not even have the Charms textbook with him right now.
''But i don't have any books with me!'' Yeeeeees, there was really no book near him right now. He didn't even have parchment. What book was she talking about? ''Pleaseee, Rose. Pleaaaaseee.''
He gave her the puppy eyes again, then leaned his forehead on her shoulder hiding his face for more dramatic effect. ''I am doomed'' Not really he thought he was doomed but....the intention was creating a dramatic effect, right?

Yea, she thought not.
Glancing back up to the Professor, she sighed quietly, tapping her fingers silently on her desk. It was bad luck for him though, considering she both didn't have her book with her, nor did she really pay attention this year to their ancient runes class considering she couldn't understand a word the professor was saying. Most of her free time went into studying DADA, not runes. Yet Josh's voice was still...
WHAT!?
He did NOT just say that! "You want me to take your punishment for you?" The Slytherin was too surprised to remember to keep her voice down. Help him, perhaps she would've, but do it for him? No. Get off her shoouldeeer!

Sierra raised her hand. "It depends on how good the witch or wizard is. If they have strong will and focus, then the charm can last as long as they can keep it going," she said. With a shrug, she added, "...and if not, well, they're just out of luck." she lowered her hand. "...or you can force a charm to end by a counter-spell or something like finite."
